Many consumers are doing it on their own when it comes to home security.

With marketing strategies becoming so pervasive it has become so easy to realize the benefits of the connected home. The old school service providers such as ADT are working to protect their turf by reminding the consumers what they are missing.

“It’s unfortunate that some people are mistaking the convenience of ‘looking in’ for the true safety of professionally monitored security,” stated in an ADT press release.

That 24/7 monitoring is the number one benefit that companies such as ADT, Vivint, Alarm.com and other contract service providers have to offer.

The service provider can almost immediately contact emergency responders on your behalf, versus depending on you to take notice of a message from a camera, motion sensor, or other device that you have installed yourself at home.

Now ADT is touting its ability to display appropriate emergency services-fire, medical, or police-based on the alarm signals set from the home.

Fire or smoke, high levels of carbon monoxide, or unauthorized entry to the home. The provider knows who to call for immediate help.

The downside, that pesky monthly service fee. ADT has realized it needs to keep up with the latest developments in home control. If they allow their systems to fall behind and not offer the latest tools and conveniences, it will be difficult to keep justifying their monthly fees.

ADT found in a recent survey of its customers that 60% wanted home security and home automation. This has led ADT to offer two new initiatives:

1. ADT and IFTTT:

ADT’s Pulse products connect with over 100 existing IFTTT channels.

2. ADT Pulse Voice:

Allows home owners to arm their security systems as well as automate their household appliances with a voice feature. This can be very helpful for their visually impaired customers.

ADT is trying to keep up with the times and the Jones’, so to speak.
