Rosoboronexport, a state-owned Russian company, has proposed a comprehensive security systems environment for Latin American countries that can apply to many countries/states.
The "Safe City" program would be for states, major administrative entities, cities, border areas, and critical assets and would provide integrated real-time surveillance and a resources command-and-control system. The technology would improve the efficiency of security operations units."Russia has great experience and all the necessary equipment to build the Safe City," a statement by Rosoboronexport said. "Implementing such a system to ensure safety and security at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 is one of the most striking examples. In particular, such experience could be used by Brazil during preparation for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016"
The company's program would also offer weapons and equipment to fit law enforcement and special units, search-and-inspection gear. Rosoboronexport said Safe City programs would be implemented with the local economic community.
Rosoboronexport hopes that implementing the Safe City program will help military-technical cooperation between Russia and the Latin American countries that choose to participate.
The announcement was made shortly after Russian President, Vladimir Putin, visited various Latin American countries.
