Experts estimate that by the end of  2014 smart home systems and services will hit $18 billion.

That number doubles, $39 billion, by 2019.

ADT and Vivint, running neck and neck, are driving the revenue up. They each have over 800,000 residential subscribers.

FrontPoint, the online reseller is not far behind.

Iris, the Lowe's self-monitoring  and control system, has a big jump on Home Depot for the DIY consumer. Heating up the race is Staples, Amazon and Microsoft who are appealing to the DIYer.

Apple's HomeKit made quite a splash in June when it was first introduced but continues to be a dark horse in the race.

Dropcam finding a home with Google's Nest gives Google another cool "learning" product in their portfolio.
