Company Awards / Certifications

NextAlarm was formed by a team of security alarm industry experts with over 50 years of collective experience. NextAlarm will work with the equipment you already have, or if you don’t have an alarm system, one of their dealers will sell you one outright.

The Good

Next Alarm uses the internet to monitor their clients home alarm systems. Their proprietary hardware is called an Alarm Broadband Network and functions through VoIP. This new technology works with already installed equipment. They also offer alarm system equipment and partner with some companies to provide installation and monitoring at reduced rates. In business since 2000, Next Alarm has a distinct following in the security market place. Their central station monitoring is fast and reliable. Because the system uses the internet the client can view their cameras and system from any remote computer. This system takes advantage of the Voice Over Internet Protocol and offers consumers a faster way to receive notifications on a variety of situations.

The Bad

The downside to all this technology is that it doesn’t beat the competition in all areas of security. It is not compatible with all system out there and that could leave consumers with a big installation bill. It is also only as reliable as the type of internet service the client has. There is a lag in how long it takes for the new ABN to register with the other systems. There have been reports of tweaking problems. The customer service was reported to be slow in response to queries.

The Bottom Line

Next Alarm is very transparent in their pricing, but not in actual costs when systems are incompatible or a new system is needed. The overall quality of the system is highly rated and most consumers give them points for quality. The prices are clearly displayed on the website and the service is spelled out clearly. Finally the Better Business Bureau gives them their highest rating.

NextAlarm is a compatible monitoring service that will provide you with equipment if you do not have it, as well as work with any existing home security equipment you may already have. They will also provide home/office owners with broadband adapters and video cameras if there is already a security system put in place.

The process by which NextAlarm works is similar to that of many other monitoring centers. They have their own central monitoring station where alerts are received and then processed. Every single day, NextAlarm processes 115,000 alarm signals on average. They have a cloud-based platform which is shared between data centers that are spread out across the nation.

Benefits of using NextAlarm include:

  • Upgraded technology
  • Current technology compatibility
  • No signup fees
  • No setup fees
  • No contract terms
  • Cancel anytime
  • Online monitoring
  • Control with your smart phone
  • Integrate cameras
  • 24/7 monitoring

NextAlarm provides clients with real time updates, along with ways for them to track and manage their security system. Clients can log on online as well to see how quickly NextAlarm processes signals/alerts and sends the necessary help.

Screen Shot 2014-05-15 at 4.26.51 PM

NextAlarm has low monthly rates due to their broadband adapter. You will not need a landline to use their product. They also provide wireless cameras, IP monitoring, mobile apps, and e-notify to keep clients in the loop about what is happening in their home/commercial office building. Their monitoring centers are UL listed central stations and have all been in operation since 2000.

Used them for 10+ years with OK results. Last several months by ABN would drop offline, usually at a weekend. Once we past the “power cycle your equipment” they acknowledged they do maintenance on their servers at a weekend and the systems are not actually monitored. Asked if they could inform the clients they were not being monitored, they said no, their system was too complex to allow that. Dropped the service immediately.

Customer service problems and hardware problems. I purchased i new abbra system. Upon arrival the system did not work properly. Apparently the battery in the main keypad was bad and I needed to wait for a replacement. In the pat year th system has gone off on it’s ow for no apparent reason around 10-12 times immediately after leaving the house. On 3 occassions when dispatch called us and we anceled the burglary alarm over the phone, they did not cancel the poice dispatch so the cops were sent. While out of the country the alarm compny failed to call our house sitter whose info we left on file as the first point of contact durring that period. Most recently I woe to alarm going off. Upon looking at the log it shows the same sensor was triggered that has been triggered 4 other times in the past month, although this time there is a low battery warning. After 17 minutes in line on the 800 number to talk to a rep, the call was disconnected. IfI wasn’t already 1k in on hardware, i would go with a different system.

NextAlarm as a whole has not impressed me at all. Customer service is the worst, long hold times (30 min to 60 min sometimes).

The ABN is a joke, it goes offline almost daily. When I contacted support they said they were “updating firmware” and this was normal. I say BULL! If it was a once a month thing I probably wouldn’t care, but it’s turning into a weekly thing.

Their latest ABBRA equipment couldn’t be more cheaply made and poorly fitting. Seriously, most plastic toys are constructed better than this!! The system itself has constant hiccups communicating, which the support folks claim are normal.

Been a customer for over 10 years… Absolutely no issues…. Yes, the ABM device depends on reliable internet service, but if you are worried, they also do regular landline connections very well… Love the emails when armed/disarmed, system update, etc… For us, it’s been reliable and inexpensive….

Delivery of necessary equipment was quick and price very reasonable. Installation instructions are geared to to perfect situation, where no problems are encountered. I discovered only after an entire day of working on set up that my combination of Napco Gemni alarm and Hughesnet Gen 4 would not work. During the process the AC adaptor included stopped working. The most disappointing part of my experience is customer support. I could not get through on the phone; they did not return my message and did not reply to emails. There limited customer service hours are worse than old banking hours. Very frustrating and made me think that even if my system had worked, would I want them having my account??? So, if you have a perfect set up and don’t need customer support, perhaps this could work — they have a great concept, but there execution seems very poor.

I have been a NextAlarm.com customer since 2008. Their pricing, tech support and alarm rezponse has been great until a couple months ago. My ABN communicator broke and they sent a cheaply made replacement ABN. It rarely worked. I threw it away and located a used ABN online manufactured by a quality company. It works flawlessly. NextAlarm has gone downhill drastically. I’ll stay with them because of their pricing and that I’m comfortable dealing with equipment on my own. I would NEVER recommend them to a friend. I would be so embarrassed if their experience is similar to mine. NEVER buy from their One Hour Security Store. I can’t even begin to tell you how terrible they are. Sorry, NextAlarm, I hope you improve soon and return to your former glory.

Absolutely the worst customer service. I have been a long term customer, but last year began using their ABN adapter. 2 of the units have failed and replacements take 2 weeks to get. During the downtime you are not protected unless you have a back-up.

I have been having reliability problems for weeks now, and am unable to reach Next Alarm by phone and email. I tried to reeach technical support calling over 10x over a period of one week- and am just leaving messages not being returned. My alarm went off in my business for over 4 minutes- and the police were not dispatched, although the internet says the system is working.
The only reliable thing about them lately, is that they take the money from my account the same time every month. Not much longer if they don’t shape up and attend to their business and customer service. Sad, I was fine with them for 3 years- now, the worst service

Next alarm is a great company. They take their customers safety seriously. After finding out that their previous central station was inadequately servicing their customers next alarm pulled all of their accounts and got a central station to adequately service their customers. A customer with an alarm system depends on their central station to properly service them. Amcest Corporation did not! They made mistakes, covered it up and next alarm found them out pulled all of their accounts and got rid of them to protect their customers. Next alarm is very concerned about their customers and want to provide them with the best service. Next alarm made the right decision. I know this to be true because I worked for the central station they got rid of.

NextAlarm has been fantastic. Their support is great, and the central station response time has been stellar. Not to mention the price is great.

We have NextAlarm at the office and our home and feel very safe and secure under their protection. The office ABN Adapter was appearing to be malfunctioning and NextAlarm guided us through some troubleshooting steps (albeit some stuff we already did), and promptly sent a replacement unit out at no cost (although we did have to pay to ship our unit back). This was handled pretty well.

Regarding the whole “guy has a gun in your face, and could force you to disarm it” is solved by adding a duress code to your system (NextAlarm can do it with you over the phone). This code functions like any other user in the system (so you enter the 4 digit code, and turn the system off). It disarms the system, but sends a “Silent Duress Panic” alarm to central station. The intruder has no idea what hit him, NextAlarm never calls– but the police are dispatched.

Also, I don’t buy that policy change. We set off an alarm the other day and disarmed it within about 10 seconds. 20 seconds or so later, we received a call from central station asking if everything is okay.

I would recommend NextAlarm any day. Their service/support is great, and they have people that know what they’re talking about at their call centre. Much better than our previous monitoring company.

When I originally signed up for Nextalarm 5 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised with both the price of the service, and their reaction times during an alarm activation. Alarm activations were always responded to with in one minute.

BUT, a few years ago, Nextalarm had a policy change in their services. That change was that if an authorized disarm was received by them within a minute of an alarm activation, they would do nothing. No phone call to verify all was ok, no nothing. It was as if the alarm never went off. They would send you an email stating that they received an activation signal from my alarm and an authorized disarm was also received immediately following the activation. The email also stated that nothing further would be done on their end.

My problem with this? Person breaks into your home, sticks a weapon in your face and demands you shut off the alarm off or they will kill you. You shut off the alarm and Nextalarm does nothing. Now you are stuck with an intruder and no help coming.

Another GLARING issue with them now. 2 months ago my back Door went into alarm and held in alarm. Within a minute, they sent the automated email stating that they received an alarm activation and an immediate authorized disarm and would be doing nothing further. BUT the alarm had not been disarmed. It was still in alarm because no one was home to disarm it. 15 minutes later, they send a second email stating that there was an alarm activation on the back door and an immediate disarm was received. No action would be taken on their end. BUT the alarm was still in alarm as no one was home at the time. FINALLY at the 30 minute mark, they finally take action. They went down the call list reaching my wife. She was not in the area so we requested the local PD to respond. The notified the local PD and they arrived 35 minutes after the initial alarm activation.

That’s a 5 minute PD response time and a 30 minute Nextalarm response time.

I checked my alarm log, and it clearly showed an alarm activation with no disarm sent on my end. So my best guess is Nextalarm sends out these automated emails when any alarm is received, regardless of if it is disarmed or remains in alarm. Not a safe feeling.

Had this been a fire alarm, my house would have burned to the ground.

I am very disappointed in their poor poor service now. And wished I stopped renewal of my service before it rebilled for another year.
