Pros

Video Surveillance Option

ADT has a video plan option where for $58.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you'll want to consider ADT.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home's smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

ADT Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company's website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee. If your home has a burglary while your ADT system is set, ADT will give you up to $500 towards your insurance deductible.

Cons

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers start at $27.99 for their traditional package and goes up to $58.99 for video monitoring. Those interested in the ADT mobile app or an outdoor/indoor camera, will need to pay more for the more comprehensive home security packages. The cost could end up being higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry-leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Undisclosed Information

Unlike other home security companies, like Protect America, ADT does not disclose how much added on equipment is. While you can see that the company offers three packages, it's difficult to see the distinctions and what equipment is offered in each package.

Negative ADT Home Security Reviews

On BestHomeSecurityCompanys.com, ADT customer rate the company at 1.2 out of 10. Common complaints of ADT customers include sales and installation reps failing to show up to scheduled appointments, long wait times, additional charges, and high cancellation fees.

We have received over 1,500 negative ADT reviews from real customers. We never scrub reviews to make companies appear a certain way to potential buyers and negative reviews cannot be paid off by the company.

Our Recommendation

ADT offers a video surveillance option, a helpful mobile app, a money-back guarantee, and a theft protection guarantee. Additionally, ADT offers a variety of high-tech products with their monitoring service: digital control panel, cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, motion detectors, and more. However, when you look at the customer reviews left for ADT, the good is outweighed by contract and customer service issues.

Customers are charged high monthly fees for ADT security services and are usually locked into a long-term contract. Also, there have been a plethora of negative customer reviews regarding ADT customer service and professional installation.

At this time, we do not recommend ADT for home security because of their negative reviews and their undisclosed information. We recommend choosing a home security company that discloses pricing and package information.

ADT gave me a headache!!!.... This is the 3rd time contacting this people. Yesterday I talked: and they say : " I apologize for the inconvenience; I'm going to contact my manager and he/she will call you to fix this situation". Today I called back because, nobody call me yet. And this woman was very unprofessional, and talking to me as I'm not paying her something.. ADT suppose to give a security services against thief. But, who give us security against them? Is this is not fix on Monday; I will contact my lawyer!

I have never been stonewalled and lied to as much by a company than ADT. I am in a 1 year battled with this company that is in a word idiotic. Phone call after phone call never to get what you pay for is just beyond belief. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company there are others out there. Be especially aware of the Myrtle Beach, SC office. Bait and Switch is what I got.

If you are looking for a company that: 1. Don't stick to their contract pricing. 2. Have phone reps that don't know the product. 3. Have a website that is not updated even though you are ensured by the agents that it is. 4. Doesn't seem to care about customer service. 5. Have agents that give attitude when they can't answer your question about your account. Then ADT is the perfect company for you to do business with. My contract expires in about a month and I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. I refuse to PAY a company to provide me with bad service!

I was informed that the intial installation and the first two months were going to be automatically debit from my account not anythings else. They started to debit my account for payments that I was unaware of and on a date that I was unaware of. They also failed to inform me of the amount of my monthly payment. When I called to get justification of the situation all customer service resprensatives and the manager Ann was very rude and un helpful to me. They refused to cancel my contact. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. With the system and with customer service. Here's my story: after being pushed into the sale by the sales person already charging my account i decided to stick with ADT just to avoid the hassle of calling in and canceling. 1. installation was not done the 1st night after the technician arriving late( hours late) and left around 930-10pm to finish the following day-very inappropriate to have technicians over at that hour much less one that has flirted with you. 2.moments after installation of the sensors, one was giving off defective signals to the monitor a few days later another one was -let this go on for weeks because of work life and schedule 3. was promised by technician another sensor to be installed-technician missed his own appointment and never called back when asked to. 4. finally set up an appointment (had to take time out to call and initiate) for the extra sensor that was agreed upon, upon the initial installation at no extra charge-a technician came by today with no mentioning of fee, installed and made me sign what i thought was a "work order" when I see the fee it and asked about it i was told it was the monthly 5. technician asked for a card number because his boss needed it I gladly gave thinking this has to do with account management. when the tech was on the phone with his boss i asked him specifically whether or not i would be charged extra and confirmed with him that this was part of the initial agreement- he said yes 6. moments after he leaves i see $140 taken out of my acct- in the form of an extra equipment fee?! called ADT CORPORATE-was on phone with a rep whose voice was so cringeworthy and odd i wanted to smash my telephone in pieces i finally get to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor was a female who did not give 2 shits about the client and instead of trying to solve the problem has simply decided to ignore the client's story and instead set up another appointment to have the sensor taken out and then refund the money. I DID NOT EXPECT MY EXPERIENCE WITH ADT TO FEEL LIKE A SCAM. terrible service.

ADT is a shell company. Local contractors do the install and the maintenance, and handle all the service calls after purchasing the ADT contract. So what that means to you the customer is that nobody is responsible. So lets face it the security of our homes and business are no small thing and should be taken very seriously. You have an issue with your alarm and call ADT, they schedule a local tech to come out in 3 to 10 days, ok thats not really great but they are very busy. So you wait for the tech to come and when he finally shows up and performs the service the system still does not work. Who do you call, thats right you call ADT but they inform you that falls under the contractors duties they wish they could help but cant sorry...You finally find the contractors number and call them and speak to the manager or owner and when it really gets down to it they dont care either. So now your stuck with no security and no help. Ive had everything from signal boosters to bad sensors, lots of bad sensors, to faulty key pads. I just went tr

Terrible is an understatement of my experience with ADT. I bought a home in June that has an existing ADT system. I was not informed of its age, 1989, nor was I informed of the inadequate system components. I spent at least 12 to 15 hours on the phone in the last 20 days with ADT trying to resolve service and equipment problems. I finally gave up and requested a cancellation of the contract and in doing so, I will be charged $757.25 for what amounts to 20 days of service for a system that does not work.. Please save yourself from a "fire". Run from ADT.

Buyer's of homes with ADT systems beware! We recently purchased a home and agreed to assume the ADT contract with both the sellers and buyers not knowing ADT refuses to let contracts be assigned or assumed. They are now wanting to charge a $893.05 fee to the former owners and then they want us to sign a new contract, install a new system and pay them a monthly fee. The system is less than a year old. What a bunch of sleazy operators. Will never use this company ever. If this is the way they handle themselves why would I want to trust them to protect our family and home.

We have been with ADT for years. We recently experienced some problems with the system. Our phone line went dead. I contacted ADT (7/13/14) and was advised to call AT&T to fix the line and the ADT system will adjust itself. We called AT&T and they came to the house this morning (7/14/14) to get our phone line fixed. However, the ADT system did not reset itself and does not work. We called ADT back and again were put on hold for a very long time. Had to ask for Supervisor and were advised that there will be a charge to fix it. After one hour of discussion, they agreed to waive any fees and give credit for any AT&T charges. This was so frustrating and ADT is not recommended.

I had to sign a 3-year contract when I signed up for service. I told the ADT rep that I would be moving in a year or two. He said I could take the system with me for no charge and I DID NOT have to start a new contract. The home I ended up purchasing has a custom-made monitoring system. ADT said I could pay to have them to replace the panels I already have in my home with their panels PLUS start the 3-year contract all over again. I said NO WAY. I like my new system and wanted to cancel my contract with ADT. This company does NOT work with you. They took the system out of my old home, and are going to bill me for the rest of my contract. There are no exceptions. They are not flexible. I recommended this company to a relative of mine who signed up with them, and I really regret it. Do not sign up with this company!

ADT did not call the police. Recently my home was broken into, my ADT system functioned exactly as it should. Glass break sensor and motion detector both set off the alarm. ADT called our home and left a voice message on our answering machine and that was all. They did not contact the local police department or 911, they did not attempt to contact our additional emergency numbers. All they did was leave a message on our answering machine stating that there was an alarm detection and told us to call them if we had any questions. Since then we have attempted to contact ADT to get an explanation, to see what sort of recourse we have. Have been redirected to at least 6 different people, they tell us they will call us back and never do. We are completely getting the run around from ADT. We are through with ADT and everyone should be leery of this company.

Our alarm service has been fine, but I'm concerned about the security of our ADT account information. I've received two solicitation calls in two days from two different representatives of another company. Both had our ADT subscriber information and seemingly more. I wonder, a) how they got our information, and b) what information they have, i.e., auto pay bank information, SSN's, home layout, system details, pass codes, etc. I called ADT customer relations to discuss my concerns, and provided them the phone numbers from which the calls were made. Both were local numbers. ADT's response was essentially, "We don't know, but we don't share subscriber information with anyone." Obviously, our information got out somehow. The phone numbers I provided should provide an avenue to determine answers to my concerns. ADT said they'd forward the information to their legal department; also, that we would receive no followup. ADT told me that unless the callers falsely represented themselves to be ADT employees, it's my problem. They suggested I call the BBB! That's ludicrous. I think we'll shop for another security provider.

I reported it to the police department and everything. The thieves couldn't get access to money and Jewerly so they left and ADT didn't honor their guarantee! I will never trust ADT again and since then 17 family members and friends have switched our services and I am encouraging everyone to switch. I presented the police report and everything only to be told that it was vandalism! Regardless of what I had an alarm system that should have went off and triggered the police or third party to protect my property! No one should have even been able to rummage through my home for such period of time! Thanks for honoring your word ADT...

During a false alarm I have to repeat my information to every person I speak with, if my alarm is going off that can be a big time delay and possibly the police are on their way while I repeat my information over and over! Today I got a call that my alarm is off line and I need to be there to trouble shoot it. They called me and I had to speak with two people because the first person could not really explain the problem to me. The second person I spoke to was curt with me and again I could not get my questions answered. The house with the alarm issue is a summer house and we aren't always there.I was told I have to be there to trouble shoot it and it is my responsibility to do so so that I can be back on line! Well, isn't part of having an alarm the fact that you want your house monitored while you AREN't there. So right now my house could burn down because I am away and can't trouble shoot it until I return!! This was discovered when they did the monthly check. They can't tell me how long it has been off line AND I am paying for this? Now it is being suggested that I go with the more expensive plan in case it is a telephone problem!! Now I should pay more money for monitoring that is done via cell towers. So what HAVE I been paying for? I am so frustrated with the whole thing. And all I want is to have my house monitored for FIRE but you can't get just fire alarms. Another way they get more money from you!!!

I can tell you that much of their sales business is handled by "authorized sales and installation" people and this is where trouble starts. As with anything, do your homework, read the fine print, and know what you are getting. IMPORTANT! The only time I was ever scammed was with some clown selling me a security system and home automation that was not ADT. Don't buy Control-4, or Fusion Security. If you want a scam, deal wiht them. ADT has always been good to me. I will let you know if they are not.
