AT&T Digital Life offers wireless home security monitoring and home automation. Their monthly costs and upfront costs are slightly higher than competitors, which is offset with a shorter initial contract length. Customers can control alarms and automations through the Digital Life mobile app.

Pros

2-Year Contract

AT&T Digital Life’s minimum contract length of 24 months. Most professional home security companies have a 3- to 5-year contract. The reason AT&T Digital Life can offer a short contract is because they have high up-front equipment fees. Other companies with no minimum contract length will have similarly high up-front fees.

24/7 Monitoring

Like most home security companies, Digital Life professionally monitors each of its home security systems around the clock, which means customers can rest assured that their home and family will be safe in the event of a break-in.

Free Installations

AT&T Digital Life will perform all standard home security system installations for free. This cuts down on upfront costs and makes installing a security system more affordable for customers. Additionally, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with other hardware, so customers who already have home security equipment can make a seamless transition to Digital Life.

Cons

Negative AT&T Digital Life Reviews

With nearly 1,000 reviews from real AT&T Digital Life customers, we believe we have an accurate consumer rating of 1 out 10 for the company. Best Home Security Companys never removes reviews in exchange for money with companies. Here is a summary of the biggest AT&T Digital Life complaints people have had in 2019:

  • Equipment. A few reviewers have had issues with AT&T Digital Life’s equipment – specifically the door sensors. Multiple reviews mention having to pay to re-install the equipment when they move, even though the company advertises “Free installations”.
  • Customer Service. Many reviewers are not happy with AT&T Digital Life’s poor customer service. Several mention that they are unable to effectively communicate with customer service agents.
  • Cancellation. As with most home security companies, customers can’t cancel their contract with AT&T Digital Life. Several customers are paying extra fees when the cancel, even when their contract is up.

Expensive Monitoring and Equipment

Customers can choose from three main packages.

  • Smart Security: $549.99 upfront, $39.99 monthly – 24/7 professionally installed and monitoring with home safety features and devices. This package includes a door sensor, motion sensor, window sensor, and an indoor siren.
  • Smart Security and Automation: $549.99 upfront, $54.99 monthly – Includes all features of the Smart Security package plus the Camera Package and Door Package. Feature s include window sensors, a garage door controller, smart door locks, an outdoor camera, and more.
  • Premium Security and Automation: $849.99 upfront, $64.99 monthly – Includes everything from the lower security packages as well as a smart thermostat, light control, and other energy features. A temp & water sensor is also included to detect water leaks and tell you the ambient temperature of the room.

Our Recommendation

With rather expensive packages and an abundance of negative reviews, we recommend you research companies like Frontpoint Security or Protect America, which starts at $19.99 a month for professional installation.

Truthfully it looks good on paper. But let something go worng…and it gets to be a nightmare quickly. They have no concept of customer service. They use private contractors to wire up the a/c heat thermostat and they screw up…cost $460 to get rewired. AT&T refused to comp me or even give me a partial refund. So I have tried to get it moderated, but now its down to small claims court it seems. I had trouble with Uverse and cancelled that. BEWARE!!!!!!

We have had problems with window and door sensors dropping offline in the middle of the night or randomly during the day while the alarm is active leaving multiple vulnerabilities. Seems like the technology they are using is just not well tested.

I am SO unhappy with this alarm system! I have only had it for 3 months and I have had issues with the system ever since it got installed! Spoke with a manager numerous times and they don’t stand by their word! I am having to pay a monthly service for a system that sucks and doesn’t work! I DO NOT recommend this Alarm company at ALL!

The basic service is ok, but the door security cams do not work in sub 32 degree weather and basically shut off. Also, be aware of the contract. I am going through a divorce, had to sell my house, and you cannot turn off the service. I am being told the only thing I can do is to pay a $500 early termination fee or have it installed at the apartment I’ve moved to which already has a security system. This is a nasty contract that serves the best interests of AT&T and not the customer.

I have AT&T digital life for about 3 months and for the money I think they are great. I had ADT for 6 years and they kept raising our price every 6mos. Another thing everytime an alarm was set off it took them at least 15 min to notify the sheriffs. It also took them 10 mins to notify myself and my husband. I know how long it took because I set it off on purpose once just to see how long it took them to respond. With digital life I was notified right away and I mean within 90 secs or so. The sheriffs showed up right away as well. There is a 30 sec delay with the cameras though, nothing’s perfect. If you expect A+ service for $30 a month you’re dreaming. We pay $60 a month for ours and that’s with 2 cameras, 1 in front and 1 in back. Another thing with digital life I can set the cameras to record everytime there’s motion around my house which is great since we travel a lot. For digital life I pay $10 more a month than with ADT where I had slow responses, no cameras, and no idea what was going on outside of my house when I was away. So if you want good service your gonna have to pay for it and you get what you pay for.

When I signed up for Digital Life I was in the pilot group open to employees of AT&T only. At the time, I had been employed as a middle-manager (Marketing) for 14 years, in the Mobility group. I’m conflicted in saying that this service is fairly poor. Without my 50% employee discount I wouldn’t have put up with it for a week.

    – Sensors drop off line all the time
    – The alarm is plugged into an outlet, it’s just a little box on the outlet. It makes almost no noise!!! So if I’m away, and someone intrudes via a working sensor (questionable) and the alarm goes off, they’ve got probably 30 minutes before the Sheriff shows up.
    – The cameras never worked and I had them removed.

And they won’t waive the early termination fee!

Never ever fall in to this scam. They are the nightmare, I walked into Westminster store at beach blvd. just to find out how can I reduce my bill for 5 cells phone and I was told new promotion can save me money buy new bundle of digital life which include camera, smoke detectors free installation and much more and it will be within the same amount which I am paying now but this way I will get free monitor service

They did not installed smoke detectors I was on the phone with them for hours and while I am typing this I am on hold from their store.

I had taken off from work twice but no one came when I called Hold hold and hold my phone battery was about to end. At last I was told yes technician came and installed already, this was too funny. When I explain I am waiting since morning no one came another 45 minutes hold and I was told oh there is a note here that no one responded from home, a lot of apologies but problem did not solve, This is the third off I had taken from work only for at&t, hopeless service, lier, and scam. Sales person make commission for selling manager get money and customers nothing but waist of time and frustration. Now I had called my attorney to take care of this.
Please please never fall in this scam.

Worthless. It tells me how many times I walk in and out of my house for 50 bucks a month. I can’t believe I fell for this gimmick. 2 year contract. AT&T knows how to overcharge for everything.

I purchased the system in Feb 2014, since then I have had 6 techs out for repairs, and 5 of the 6 was very professional. No complaints for them. As far as the system it is the worst problem that I have ever had. It’s off line 80% of the time, it wakes us up all times of the night. The alarm go off when we are not home and we rush back only to find the doors are locked. False alarms cost money in my city. They can’t fix the problem but still want $500.00 to cancel. Everything in my house is AT&T and this is the way I am treated? The last customer service manager I spoke to (Mr. Johnson) told me he could wave the fee but he was not, with all of my services I spend over $ 400. a month with AT&T and this is how I am talked to? All I have to say is stay with ADT if you have them. I will pay the $500. and Verizon, Time Warrens and ADT you have a new customer. By the way it was Mr. Johnson’s attitude that makes me want to change my cell, TV and internet, no problem with those services. Its a shame that you give a person a little power and they spoil everything.

I surveyed the possibilities for several weeks – ATT had the best smartphone and web interface, and most of the capabilities available anywhere short of a very custom and expensive system,.

Installation took a while, but was covered by the cost initially quoted. They adopted my existing sensors for the windows and doors, and I’ve had no problems, in fact I have them back to add controllers on a couple more lights. The installers also fixed some 3-way wiring earlier electricians had bungled.

I’ve had the service for about 8 months and I’m very pleased.

Att Digital life is not ready for prime time:
Install took 3 days (about 25 hours total).
Installer accidently drilled a hole through my front door, leaving a large hole. They also installed rather large white window sensors on each window, even though I had built in sensors from a previous system. After two months of asking ATT to repair the damage and remove unnecessary sensors, I gave up and hired my own contractors to make repairs.
The system worked OK while I had it, although the cameras are somewhat slow.
I finally had ATT pull the equipment out as they could not communicate between sales, customer service (Texas) & repair (CA) in order to repair the damage.
While everyone was very friendly that I spoke with, ATT digital life seems to be too large and spread out to be effective. I wonder how long it would have taken if my system went down?
Lastly, the low pitched chirp, designed to let you know your home is being entered is so quiet, you can’t hear it

have had this system for 8 months and had none of the problems described by others. Although I find it slightly pricy, the overall ability to monitor the cameras, see when the kids get home and toggle the lights when we are out of town is worth the peace of mind. Only once did my video go off and i had to upgrade teh app on my Ipad.

Customer service and quality control at AT&T Digital Life is horrible. Amazing that a business can survive over 100 years and have 100,000 customers and be this inept. The telephone support, on two separate occasions, mis-spelled my user ID. The on-line instructions for creating a password are incorrect, frustrating users. The area manager’s arrogance was typical of a corporate giant that has survived too many generations. Corporate customer service is automated – need I say more? The installation technicians were great. Too bad these guys aren’t running the Company.

Worst service ever I would not recommend AT&T digital life to my worst enemy. Nothing works and you get calls form AT&T middle of the night at 2 and 3 in the morning telling you the system is off line and to have you trouble shoot it this happens to me 2 to 3 times a weeks and lack of sleep disrupts my day. They had tec come out 3X with no solution and they want to charge me $500 to cancel the service because of their incapability to deliver the service I’m paying for. Also system turns itself off if you think you have your alarm on when you set it on think again. Camera’s don’t work all the time. This has been nothing but pain for me loosing my sleep , staying home form work to have someone come out and try to fix things with no solution and after all this they are not even willing to cancel the service.

I had Digital life installed Dec ’13. Cameras work sometimes sometimes not. I have been dealing with att on this matter since. I had to write to the headquarters just to get them to listen to me. Then I am told that I was the only one with this problem and it was probably my internet. Well guess what I have att uverse so there go that theory. So they had the cameras replaced the dlc box replaced and still no change. Now I have been told that several people are having the same problem. Would I recommend this, NEVER. Not until they fix all the problems.

I have no complaints with the installer. He was prompt, professional & informative. The only thing he didn’t mention was the type of batteries needed when they get low. Here comes the frustration…After 3 phone calls to ATT, giving all my personal info/passwords & driving to 6 different stores, including an ATT store, I finally found the correct battery at Radio Shack. My opinion is that this company really needs to focus more on the education of their customer service dept. so they can send customers to 1 location with the correct size/style# of something as simple as a battery. Better stock up when you do find them!

I want to start off saying we were very skeptical about the service we called around to different companies and we finally decided to go with at&t since we already had Uverse which worked very good. We got the digital life installed on May 14,2014 however we did have to have a conversion box installed which made the service take about 12 hours. After all said and done the installation went perfect the system was all clear no problems whatsoever. The installation was on time he was very professional everybody that came out to do there part was on time and very professional. The installer took his time and went over every aspect of the system with us and explained all of the functions of the system. We went on vacation and all the systems functioned properly the camera was clear which I was very happy with. All equipment worked properly. I want to say thanks to at&t for making this a pleasant experience. We will be getting another camera in the near future. Thanks for making my family feel safe and secure.
