Security System Overview

Devcon Security has a home monitoring system that received a 5 star rating from the Central Station Alarm Association. They can alert the proper authorities for such incidents as fire, burglary, carbon monoxide, and other incidents as well. Additionally, Devcon Security can also assist with medical alert solutions for elderly clients, providing peace for all family involved. Moreover, Devcon has all of the latest home security equipment, such as the Simon XT security system from GE or the ADEMCO Security Systems from Honeywell. Devcon was acquired by ADT.

The Good

Devcon Security is a very advanced and thorough security firm. They have numerous high-tech solutions, including wireless, cell phone, and a rapid-response monitoring system with a 24/7 support staff. They have a solid reputation for customer service.

The Bad

For the most part the site is very thorough and user-friendly. However, there is one issue with the “Branch Locations” link within the site, which is a broken link. Although this could seem like a minor issue, it can make the company seem vague in just where you can get service from them. Can you procure their services in any state? The fact that “branch locations” is a broken link makes this unclear. More information is needed in this area. Devcon’s security’s website should also strongly consider a search function within their site. For those who have brand loyalty it can be very difficult to locate GE products, Honeywell products, and the like.

The Bottom Line

Based upon a number of factors, including usability of the site, and the company is highly reputable. They have a strong track record, and will strive to keep all of their security customers satisfied and safe.

The Good

Recently, Devcon Security became an official ADT dealer which means that many of their package options are similar to other ADT dealers, such as their home automation system.  For $399 down and $49.99 a month for 36 months customers can purchase a home automation package that includes the following:

  • 24/7 burglary & theft monitoring
  • Quality service plan
  • Remote arm/disarm via web-enabled device
  • Email and text alerts
  • Cellular connection
  • Fire protection
  • Carbon Monoxide detector
  • Flood detection
  • Climate control
  • Lighting and appliance control
  • Remote door locks

The Devcon home automation lets you access your home conveniently from anywhere, such as on the road, at the office, or while on vacation.  It also allows you to seamlessly integrate security, lighting, climate, and video.  Devcon provides a system that includes many more features than other companies’ basic package, plus right now there is an internet special starting $149 that includes home security, automation, and a full professional installation.

The Bad

There is very little negative to mention with the Devcon Security home automation package.  It includes many features that are not available through other companies’ offers, such as door lock automation, emergency notifications, and appliance control.  One downside of going through Devcon is that they do not offer the same video promotions that are available directly through ADT.  For example, the basic home automation package through ADT includes two video surveillance cameras (one indoor, one outdoor), however, with Devcon in order to get the video cameras a customer must buy the larger package for $10 more a month and an extra $100 upfront.

The Bottom Line

Overall, Devcon offers a quality home automation package that is available on top of the basic home security offer.  If you are in the market for more control over your home then we suggest discussing options further with a Devcon representative.

Year Monthly Revenue Customers Gross Rev. ($mil) Full Time Employees

2010 $3,470,472 138,000 $41.6 na
2009 $3,451,839 na $41.2 na

Taken from sdmmag.com. Devcon Security is currently ranked #17 out of the top 100 companies and was recently purchased by ADT for $148.5 million.

I’ve had Devcon Securities for 5 years. They are slow to respond to alarm offsets, despite them having my cellular phone number for immediate contact. I knew it was time to terminate this relationship when they increased my rate (which was paid via:automatic draft) twice without any notification/documentation. And contrary to previous reviews the unadvised increases have been MORE than .99/annually. I called customer service, they advise that was in the original contract…blah, blah blah. Nonetheless, other companies, including the company I use for my business has ALWAYS sent courtesy notifications for ANY change. Not to mention I called to cancel @ 8:?am (EST), only to be told I have back to call a different department that didn’t open for another 15 minutes after I was already on hold for +10 minutes. Long story short Devcon Securities professionalism leaves a lot to be desired.

even though you are on a 3 year contract – they will up your price by .99 per month each year. We basically called and it took a lengthy discussion and we were finally NOT charged. But the gentleman did say that the up pricing is in the contract. FINE PRINT! Hardly readable. We had many issues for the first several months of the alarm system NOT picking up motion. We did call several times and it took several attempts to correct the problem. They have sold out to Metronics now.

The sales rep did not tell me about the contract term. Then they sold my contract to Monitoronics, who had even worse contract terms – if you move, you have to pay $600 or start-over the new contract of 4 year term, and they would charge you additional for installing the same set of equipment that you used to have at the old location. Their equipment kept on causing errors so it’s useless and they only refer you to subcontractors to repair, for the fee of $80 each time.

Had security monitoring from Devcon , discovered during a battery. Replacement that the phone line was not connected. Not only did they not want to return a portion of the monitoring fee, they threatened to send a report to the credit bureaus if I did not pay the bill sent for 3 months of monitoring to cancel the contract. They said that it was my responsibility to test the system not theirs Bad company do not trust them

    Avoid at all cost!
Their service is pretty crummy, but what really stinks is their customer service.
I sold my house and called to cancel. They told me they wanted to quote me for my new house, and that until that could be done my account would be frozen.
Several months later I decide to not go with them in my new house, and then I get billed for the months in between when I didn’t receive any service from them.

They are completely dishonest, and make it really hard to get out of their service.
I hate companies like this. PLEASE stay away!
