Pros

Frontpoint's Pricing

Frontpoint's equipment and monitoring cost are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. Frontpoint's monthly cost ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher-priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation for smart home devices and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only and you need a smartphone mobile device to have access.

Contracts are available for 36 months. There is a 30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Mobile App and Upgraded Technology

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology. The Frontpoint app gives you remote access and lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint's control panels. Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys' IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel. New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever. This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera smartphone app and front-facing camera

Easy to Install

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you've installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it's performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint's Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Positive Frontpoint Reviews

The majority of Frontpoint customers are happy with the product and service they receive. The reviews we have highlight the company's great customer service:

  • Prompt responses
  • Knowledgable staff who are able to answer questions
  • Personalized attention

Along with customer service, several reviews mention that the DIY system is easy to install and the price is fair for services provided.

Cons

High Upfront Costs

While equipment fees start at $69, they may reach into the $800 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 door and window sensors.

Frontpoint Complaints

The biggest complaint we've seen from Frontpoint customers is the contract. Some reviews mention that they didn't understand all the terms of the contract before signing and that the contract is difficult to cancel (they have to pay 80% of the remaining contract balance). We recommend reading over the entire contract before singing up with Frontpoint. One other point that multiple customers have brought up is that the system has false alarms.

Our Recommendation

We recommend Frontpoint. The company is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their home security system and its devices can't go wrong. They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top-of-the-line technology and equipment. You can see Frontpoint reviews from real consumers below. Frontpoint vs Simplisafe

The best way to compare Frontpoint and SimpliSafe is to read the customer reviews of each company (we've summarized them for you on this page and on SimpliSafe's page). Frontpoint's customers rate them higher than SimpliSafe's -  many of those touch on customer service. With Frontpoint, you don't have to purchase your equipment upfront, you pay it off monthly. That's why they have a 3-year contract. With SimpliSafe, you purchase all equipment upfront, so you don't need a contract for alarm monitoring. We've also compared Frontpoint to ADT below (both companies have a 3-year contract, but pricing varies quite a bit).

Home Automation Options

Frontpoint has a multitude of home automation options in its "Professional Package". For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package. With this plan, you'll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home-whether it's a matter of security or an environmental threat.  You'll also be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using the Frontpoint location-based Geo-Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature. You can customize an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm. There is also environmental protection to protect you against Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding. With the Interactive plan, you additionally get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

This Frontpoint package includes a 30-day money-back guarantee trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

However, Frontpoint does not sell the door locks,  or a thermostat, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint's automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to set up, there are some who may struggle with connecting it to their smart home devices.

Ridiculous cancellation policy. When you call to cancel your account they put in 30 days cancellation mode so they can take another month dues from you. I cancelled my service om December 13, 2018 telling the representative that i dod not eant monutoring anymore. I got a charge on my card on January 1, 2019 because instead of canceling immediately as I had requested they put the account in 30 days grace period. Also, my base station has been powered off completely and no one has bothered to call and checkup. I hope this is not the case with real emergencies.

Terrible service and ridiculous cancellation policy and the customer service reps have no knowledge. My station failed after 2 yrs ( while we were on vacation !! ) and I was asked to send in the unit for a replacement , cs person told me he took a back up of the configuration and all I needed was to plugin the replacement unit when it arrives . After I received the new unit I was unable to make it work and called the customer service, the new service person struggled for a while and finally able to restore the back up except for all of the cameras. He told me camera config cannot be restored and I need to manually add again after manually resetting the camera, howwever 2 of my camera's never worked after that. When I called again the guy said the IR camera is an old technology and I should consider a new model. Folks giving great service review here wait until you have a service issue or until you try to cancel the service.

I called Frontpoint customer service in October to cancel my service andwas informed that I had 3 more months left on a three year contract and that to cancel early would cost me as much as to let the contract run out. So I told the rep to just let the contract run out and cancel the service then. In In December I was looking at my checking account online and noticed a December charge for service as well as a November charge. I called them again to inquire about the bogus charges and was told that ion order to cancel service I had to tell them so in writing, that the fraudulent charges would not be refunded, and that I was even required to pay another charge for January! Sounds like a total scam to me and I informed them that they would be hearing from my attorney. NEVER CHOOSE FRONTPOINT!

The company verbally agreed that we could cancel service if we moved with no fees. Then when we moved required us to pay exorbitant fees to cancel. When I complained, the customer service reps were rude and after multiple requests for supervisors to return the call, they never did after weeks of waiting.

I've been with Front Point for 4 years. I have actually set off the alarm by accident and my wife set off the smoke detector. In all cases the response phone call was immediate. I have had only one equipment issue and it was resolved right away. Frontpoint provides an annual statement I give to my Insurance company that gets me a discount for having a monitored system. The apps work perfectly on my smart phone and I can monitor/arm/disarm my system from anywhere.

As a Senior, I admit I was hesitant about self installing a system but it was very simple and the support is excellent. I’ve now had my system for 4 years. In that time, my battery started to die, I was alerted and I contacted support. They overnighted a complete free replacement and support walked me through the exchange. My fire detectors were reporting low and they overnighted batteries for me at no charge and walked me through the installation as well. The fact that the system is wireless is a real plus should someone cut wires to the electric system.

It's a scam. Read the contract carefully before you decide to purchase. I cancelled as soon as I got a chance to look at the contract (just a couple days after I ordered—well within the cancellation period), and after 2 months I have yet to receive the refund that I've been assured 3 times would be on its way to me. I'm getting scared that I'll have to contact my bank and change my card numbers to ensure they don't steal any more money from me.

Would not sign up with these guys ever again! The agent (first name "Dontrez") that I spoke to initially told me about the "first time caller" promotion, so if I hung up to think about the deal I would essentially have to pay an additional $99 and said that I could still sign up and cancel within a 60 day trial period. What he didn't mention is that the 60 days were only non-paid but I really only had 3 day to cancel. First off, I'm located in Canada. So the agent I spoke to was comparing Canadian ADT and other security company rates to their US rates!!!! He never once mentioned that the prices he's quoting me are based on US Dollars (USD). He kept on going on different competitors review sites and loudly read out only the negative reviews to persuade me with my decision to go with them. Anyhow, I finally said ok let me try it and I agreed to pay a $99 sign up fee. It was only once I checked me credit card bill that I found out his rates were based on US Dollars. This is a SCAM company, do not let them scam you into their 3 or 4 year contracts. Dontrez was such a good scammer that he even went on and talked me out of getting window sensors for my home which ultimately meant that Robbers could easily come to my house at night while we are sleeping and steal whatever they want. He said that the only thing I needed was a motion sensor... Now that I think of everything this scammer said it just brings me to a boiling point! Do NOT TRUST THIS SCAM COMPANY

I got a system a couple of years ago with a 3 year contract. Big mistake. I purchased it right before going on a month long trip overseas because I wanted the house to be safe when I was gone. When I got back and actually had a chance to see what the system was like I immediately didn’t like it. The motion sensor alarms went off several times a day for no reason. The alarm was horrendously loud and the volume could not be adjusted. So all it was was an incredible nuisance to me and my neighbors. But, by then my grace period was up, so I was stuck with a 3 year contract and the only way to get out of if was by paying 80% of the 3 years that I still owed. I even told them that I was moving overseas and that they did not offer services where I was going. The representative told me that this was one exception that would allow me to terminate the contract without an early termination fee if I gave proof of the address. I emailed him the address, gave the 30 days notice of cancellation and thought all was good. Then 2 months down the line I see I have been charged the monthly fee again. I called back to ask why and after several minutes of the rep looking through my records first he says I was emailed saying there was a problem with the proof of address I sent. Then several minutes later of looking at my file he says, “No, actually this representive who spoke to you before and told you this information was incorrect,” and that would indeed have to pay the termination fees. 80% of what I would have owed if I kept the services. He could do absolutely nothing to change it or compensate me even though I’d been given wrong information. I’ve now wasted an insane amount of money on nothing.

This system has been a headache and a drain on my money, and I wish I never signed up for it. Installation and set up is not easy, it is quite confusing and after the process of installing the hardware and the app, my family and I have been more confused than ever. We never even turn it on, because we've gone past our one-week trial window and can't get a continuous trial period without making a lengthy phone call where they try to convince us not to extend our trial, and finally agree to extend it by only one week. The volume doesn't seem to be able to adjust (if so we've found no sources on how to do so), so the system wakes people up every night people open and close the doors. We've been more concerned about the police showing up to our house because this unintuitive system will get set off than we are about actual break-ins at this point, so we've taken the system down and left it in a box. Now I just have to pay $45 for two more years until the contract finally ends.

BEWARE! I have been a loyal Frontpoint Security customer for nearly 10 years. The service has worked fine. I have another system in a second home that works flawlessly and at about 1/2 the monitoring cost of Frontpoint. My complaint with them is that when I sold my home that used Frontpoint, i'm being told that I will be charged for an additional month beyond my cancellation date. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, FAIR, OR A GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE. All other services, including my WiFi provider, electric, gas, cellular will not be charging for services i don't use. I have been a customer for approximately 3 years. Although I am pleased with the cellular aspect of their systems, yesterday I found their customer service representative to be rude, obnoxious, and unwilling to understand the problem and/or to help me. I called as I needed replacement for two metal "magnet" pieces which were continually falling off the doors and sending out false alarms. Simple right? Oh NO, not to be! After a verbal tug-of-war about troubleshooting and "the issue" and blah, blah, blah that lasted approximately 10 minutes, she remained stubborn in her resolve not to fulfill my request. I then asked to speak with a supervisor. Placed on hold for another 4 minutes, my original contact person then returned to tell me she had received authorization to send them out in the mail. I still cannot understand why the hesitancy to replace two .05 cent parts. Cheaply made plastic parts wear out especially when placed above doors that are used on a regular basis. Why make ordering new ones such an incredibly exasperating and purely aggravating experience? Frontpoint needs to take a hard look at the "service" aspect of their company. If not improved, I will go elsewhere as their are many fine companies around begging for my business.

I have had Frontpoint for a little over 2 years and when I took up with them I had to pay over $200 up front for my system and on their web page it says startup cost $99 and I also seen this so I copied and pasted it here>>>>>>Contract lengths start at 12 months, which is shorter than other companies that ask for a minimum of 36 months.<<<<<I had to sign a 3 year contract, they didn't give me any other choice so I find this comment false advertisement. A couple times we forgot to un-arm before opening a door when we first got our system and we'd call in right away to let them know its a false alarm, they still sent the sheriff to my house anyway, there's a waste of workers tax money! Overall though I do like Frontpoint's system and customer service isn't so bad, you have a couple rude ones but you have that everywhere in my opinion. Reading the reviews about people trying to cancel service is horrific, hope if I ever try and quit them its not such a hassle.
