Pros

Frontpoint's Pricing

Frontpoint's equipment and monitoring cost are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring.

Frontpoint's monthly cost ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher-priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation for smart home devices and video surveillance monitoring.

The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only and you need a smartphone mobile device to have access.

Contracts are available for 36 months. There is a 30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Mobile App and Upgraded Technology

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology.

The Frontpoint app gives you remote access and lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint's control panels. Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys' IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel.

New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever. This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera smartphone app and front-facing camera

Easy to Install

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it.

Once you've installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it's performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint's Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Positive Frontpoint Reviews

The majority of Frontpoint customers are happy with the product and service they receive. The reviews we have highlight the company's great customer service:

  • Prompt responses
  • Knowledgable staff who are able to answer questions
  • Personalized attention

Along with customer service, several reviews mention that the DIY system is easy to install and the price is fair for services provided.

Cons

High Upfront Costs

While equipment fees start at $69, they may reach into the $800 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 door and window sensors.

Frontpoint Complaints

The biggest complaint we've seen from Frontpoint customers is the contract. Some reviews mention that they didn't understand all the terms of the contract before signing and that the contract is difficult to cancel (they have to pay 80% of the remaining contract balance).

We recommend reading over the entire contract before singing up with Frontpoint. One other point that multiple customers have brought up is that the system has false alarms.

Our Recommendation

We recommend Frontpoint. The company is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their home security system and its devices can't go wrong.

They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top-of-the-line technology and equipment. You can see Frontpoint reviews from real consumers below. Visit their site today!

Frontpoint vs Simplisafe

The best way to compare Frontpoint and SimpliSafe is to read the customer reviews of each company (we've summarized them for you on this page and on SimpliSafe's page).

Frontpoint's customers rate them higher than SimpliSafe's -  many of those touch on customer service. With Frontpoint, you don't have to purchase your equipment upfront, you pay it off monthly.

That's why they have a 3-year contract. With SimpliSafe, you purchase all equipment upfront, so you don't need a contract for alarm monitoring. We've also compared Frontpoint to ADT below (both companies have a 3-year contract, but pricing varies quite a bit).

Home Automation Options

Frontpoint has a multitude of home automation options in its "Professional Package". For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package.

With this plan, you'll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home-whether it's a matter of security or an environmental threat.  You'll also be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using the Frontpoint location-based Geo-Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature. You can customize an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm. There is also environmental protection to protect you against Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding. With the Interactive plan, you additionally get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

This Frontpoint package includes a 30-day money-back guarantee trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

However, Frontpoint does not sell the door locks,  or a thermostat, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint's automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to set up, there are some who may struggle with connecting it to their smart home devices.

Avoid this company. $99 starter fee, try closer to $600. Wouldn’t allow me to return unused sensors as was originally advised. System is not audible from second floor landing. The system is so garbage it doesn’t even startle my dog with dementia. I have been fighting with them for 5 months, they refuse to do anything and are demanding full payment of the contract. They refuse to have any contact via email either. STAY AWAY!! I have ATS system now and you definitely get what you pay for!

I spent alot of time looking into security systems prior to deciding on Frontpoint. I am almost at the end of my first year with the system. Pros Customer service reps are ALWAYS super polite and helpful. Because they use more common sensors it is easy to add things, like door locks, into their system. Issues Had to return the motion detector because it kept picking up my 20# dog no matter what I did. Got a secondary panel to mount on the wall near the door so I could hide the bulky panel out of site. Secondary panel doesn't chine when sensors are opened! Removing it to return led to having to repaint my living room because the mounting strip wouldn't release. Glass break sensor decided to just fall off of the wall, it uses the same strips the secondary panel does! Smoke detector starts going off that there is a fire. Thankfully I was home and knew it was false since my hardwired detector 12" away wasn't going off. One of my bedroom sensors is always losing contact. Even though there are 3 additional sensors on EITHER side of the one losing contact they claim its having interference. The other 6 around it have NEVER had an issue. So that led to a replacement with a king range sensor. Their app worked great until about 2 weeks ago when it stopped showing the current status of the panel. ie I would arm it and panel would show it is armed but app still displayed disarmed. I was on hold for about 30 minutes and finally did the leave a call back # at about 5pm on a Saturday. I did not get a call back until TUESDAY! Some components that had to be returned were never proberly processed in their system leading to additional charges on my credit card. I had to find the tracking numbers to prove they were returned, even though they sent me the labels! Account charges were double billed one month. I understand things happen but as you can see it's another bumb on a long road. About 6 months that in I wanted to cancel due to all of the issues. After spending an hour on the phone and talking to 2 different managers the best I got was to "only" charge me $750 to cancel!! I understand contracts very well and if the service contracted isn't provided you should have the right to leave with no penalties. Getting an attorney involved would lead to that very quickly I am sure. Unfortunately the attorney would cost about what the cancellation would ,or more. That is probably what they count on. In hindsight, and as soon as my contract is cancelled or expires, I would go with SimpliSafe. My parents have had then for years and are very happy with it. Yes, the equipment doesn't work with all providers and will run you a bit more upfront. Because they make all of their equipment it works better with their systems as a whole. If you are unhappy you can simply cancel with no fees. I guarantee you the equipment purchase with SimpliSafe will cost you less than the contract cancellation when your unhappy with Frontpoint. I am really disappointed. Reading the reviews and everything Frontpoint claimed I had high hopes for this system. As I said earlier they probably have the friendliest customer service reps I have dealt with. Unfortunately that does not make up for poor equipment and the time and frustration involved. If you really must have a system you can move to different provides then go with ADT. You will pay more but at least they will be installing and dealing with the issues when you inevitably have issues.

I suspect FrontPoint is fine as long as everything works. However, that wasn't my experience. First, I couldn't install the door sensors because of the molding around the door - they wouldn't lay flat so I had to buy other sensors and drill holes in all my doors to install them (and these are not easily removed to take them with you if you had to). Second, the cost of the equipment adds p - it ended up being way more than I originally thought. Read the small print carefully - they will sell you a very inexpensive plan then they will up-sell you to more expensive plans to be able to use the mobile app. Without it, you need to RUN to the keypad to disarm the system when you open the door (good luck if you have a child or groceries). Finally, be prepared to pay for a three-year term - no matter what! I relocated for a job and had to pay the last six months even though I threw away the system. I'm going with SimpliSafe in my new home - better product, less expensive and NO multi-year contract.

Ridiculous cancellation policy. When you call to cancel your account they put in 30 days cancellation mode so they can take another month dues from you. I cancelled my service om December 13, 2018 telling the representative that i dod not eant monutoring anymore. I got a charge on my card on January 1, 2019 because instead of canceling immediately as I had requested they put the account in 30 days grace period. Also, my base station has been powered off completely and no one has bothered to call and checkup. I hope this is not the case with real emergencies.

Terrible service and ridiculous cancellation policy and the customer service reps have no knowledge. My station failed after 2 yrs ( while we were on vacation !! ) and I was asked to send in the unit for a replacement , cs person told me he took a back up of the configuration and all I needed was to plugin the replacement unit when it arrives . After I received the new unit I was unable to make it work and called the customer service, the new service person struggled for a while and finally able to restore the back up except for all of the cameras. He told me camera config cannot be restored and I need to manually add again after manually resetting the camera, howwever 2 of my camera's never worked after that. When I called again the guy said the IR camera is an old technology and I should consider a new model. Folks giving great service review here wait until you have a service issue or until you try to cancel the service.

I called Frontpoint customer service in October to cancel my service andwas informed that I had 3 more months left on a three year contract and that to cancel early would cost me as much as to let the contract run out. So I told the rep to just let the contract run out and cancel the service then. In In December I was looking at my checking account online and noticed a December charge for service as well as a November charge. I called them again to inquire about the bogus charges and was told that ion order to cancel service I had to tell them so in writing, that the fraudulent charges would not be refunded, and that I was even required to pay another charge for January! Sounds like a total scam to me and I informed them that they would be hearing from my attorney. NEVER CHOOSE FRONTPOINT!

I have had only one equipment issue and it was resolved right away. Frontpoint provides an annual statement I give to my Insurance company that gets me a discount for having a monitored system. As a Senior, I admit I was hesitant about self installing a system but it was very simple and the support is excellent. I’ve now had my system for 4 years. In that time, my battery started to die, I was alerted and I contacted support. They overnighted a complete free replacement and support walked me through the exchange. My fire detectors were reporting low and they overnighted batteries for me at no charge and walked me through the installation as well. The fact that the system is wireless is a real plus should someone cut wires to the electric system.

It's a scam. Read the contract carefully before you decide to purchase. I cancelled as soon as I got a chance to look at the contract (just a couple days after I ordered—well within the cancellation period), and after 2 months I have yet to receive the refund that I've been assured 3 times would be on its way to me. Would not sign up with these guys ever again! The agent (first name "Dontrez") that I spoke to initially told me about the "first time caller" promotion, so if I hung up to think about the deal I would essentially have to pay an additional $99 and said that I could still sign up and cancel within a 60 day trial period. What he didn't mention is that the 60 days were only non-paid but I really only had 3 day to cancel. First off, I'm located in Canada. So the agent I spoke to was comparing Canadian ADT and other security company rates to their US rates!!!! He never once mentioned that the prices he's quoting me are based on US Dollars (USD). He kept on going on different competitors review sites and loudly read out only the negative reviews to persuade me with my decision to go with them. Anyhow, I finally said ok let me try it and I agreed to pay a $99 sign up fee. It was only once I checked me credit card bill that I found out his rates were based on US Dollars. This is a SCAM company, do not let them scam you into their 3 or 4 year contracts. Dontrez was such a good scammer that he even went on and talked me out of getting window sensors for my home which ultimately meant that Robbers could easily come to my house at night while we are sleeping and steal whatever they want. He said that the only thing I needed was a motion sensor... Now that I think of everything this scammer said it just brings me to a boiling point! Do NOT TRUST THIS SCAM COMPANY
