If the motion detector is triggered (it is pet friendly) the camera will start recording and you will get a notification so that you can see it in real time. - Limited Starter Kit
- High Upfront Costs
- Self-Monitoring Fee
Limited Starter Kit
GetSafe offers only one package, “The Starter Kit” and it is limited, though ample for a small apartment. The kit comes with the Smart Hub, 1 door/window sensor, 1 motion detector and an alarm siren. This is could be a problem if you have multiple points of entry into your home that you want to monitor, like a back door or multiple ground level windows. Additional equipment can be purchased however.
High Upfront Costs
The Start Kit mentioned above sells for $249 plus the cost of monitoring. Additional components can get pricey depending on the size of your home and the amount of sensors you want. Simplisafe’s comparable package (and they offer multiple packages) comes with a yard sign and a key fob, where GetSafe offers them at an additional cost.
One thing that we found to be interesting is that GetSafe charges you to monitor your own system. Other companies with the same business model don’t charge you for monitoring your own system. The fee is $19.99 and includes AT&T 3G Cellular coverage, which sets them apart. In the event of a power outage, GetSafe wants to ensure that you still have a way to monitor your home.

Technology & Equipment Overview
Opening The Box
The Smart Hub is the command center that all of the censors link back to. The Hub communicates wirelessly to your censors and to your smart phone. There is no installation required, Simply plug it in, download the app and control your system from your smart phone. The hub also contains a rechargeable battery and an AT&T 3G Cellular sim card so that you can stay in control even if the power runs out. The smart hub can handle up to 64 different security devices, which is more then plenty should you need to expand your system from the starter kit. It can also handle multiple users controlling the system from the app.
Door & Window Sensors
The sensor is made up of two pieces, a magnet and a sensor. One half sticks to the door or window and the other half to the door jamb or window sill. When the door or window opens the two pieces separate and notify the hub and trigger the alarm if it is armed. The sensors are powered by 1 AA battery. The sensors communicate to the hub wirelessly and can function up to 1,640 feet away.
The motion detector alarm uses PIR (Passive infra-red) technology to sense the body heat of a human intruder and ignore the movements of animals under 40 pounds. The system will also be triggered if the sensor is moved or tilted out of the way. The motion detector also communicates with the hub wirelessly.
The alarm siren sounds when the system detects an alarm from any of the sensors. The siren will sound for 90 seconds at 85 decibels. Of course, the smart phone app will still alert you, but the siren alarm should scare off the intruder.
GetSafe owners can add as many sensors and cameras as they would like.
Motion Detector Camera
The Motion Detector Camera is 100% wireless and is powered by 3 AA batteries. It will allow you to view live video through your smart phone app. The camera will alert you when movement is detected and you can view what is going on right from your phone.
Indoor HD Cameras
The Indoor HD Camera allows you to see and hear what is going on in your house in 720p resolution.
The Key fob has a simple 5 button layout; Fully armed, fully disarmed, daytime settings and nighttime settings. Set the preferences in the app and control your system at the touch of a button. The fob works from 2,000 feet away. The key fob also has a panic button that sets off the home siren
The Flood sensor helps detect a leak before it becomes a flood. A flood is 10 times more likely than a house fire, and it is the most common reason people file a home insurance claim.
The Smoke Detector is a photoelectric sensor that is extremely accurate and helps reduce the number of false alarms. The smoke detector will send an alert to your home and dispatch the fire department if there is a need to help save your home from a fire. The alarm in this detector reaches 85 decibels.
Nest Learning Thermostat
Though not a GetSafe product, Nest can be synched to the GetSafe hub and controlled from the app, allowing you to track and manage your energy bills from away.
GetSafe is a DIY installed system which helps to save you money, and is extremely simple. It is literally a matter of inserting batteries, removing the adhesive backing, sticking it where you want it to go and setting it up in the mobile app. Installation should take no more than 5 minutes.
GetSafe gives their customers the option of having a CVAA Certified monitoring center monitor the system for them for $29 per month. The monitoring center is employed around the clock, 365 days a year to give you peace of mind. GetSafe also allows customers to monitor the system themselves for $19. This cost covers the AT&T 3G cellular sim card that is used as a backup if the internet were to go down.
