The LifeShield home security model encourages people to purchase their equipment upfront (see the “About LifeShield Security) below for details). After that, the company charges $24.98 a month for 24/7 Professional Monitoring, although you can skip the alarm monitoring if you just want to equipment. This monthly cost is average in the home security industry, although the upfront fees are significantly higher.

30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Essentially, new customers get to try out LifeShield for free for 30 days. If all goes well, you will automatically be charged the next month at the rate you signed up for.

Credit Check Requirement

LifeShield requires new customers to pass a credit check and sign a long-term, three-year contract. If customers wish to cancel but fail to do so within the 15-day grace period, they will be subject to early termination fees. There are also many reviews that make mention of the alarm monitoring center not being as responsive to alarm triggers as they ought to be.

High Upfront Fees

In order to be on the company’s month-to-month contract (where you can cancel at anytime), you will have to purchase at least $300 worth of equipment upfront. The Doorbell Camera System is $356.34 upfront, so if you choose that plan, you can automatically have a month-to-month contract. However, the SECURE System and the SHIELD system have less than $300 worth of equipment included, so you will need to add more equipment to those packages. Negative Reviews

The LifeShield reviews on our site are overwhelmingly negative. Customers rate them at an average of 3 out of 10. Some common themes among our LifeShield Security reviews include the following:

  • Contracts. Even though LifeShield now advertises that their contracts are month-to-month, many customers have complained about being locked into a 3- or 5-year contract. If you are interested in LifeShield, we recommend asking them about their contract and reading it over before you sign anything. Pay attention to if you contract auto renews and how to cancel.
  • Customer Service. According to one reviewer, their customer service is not available 24/7. Overall, reviews mention unfulfilled promises from customer service agents and rude conversations.
  • False Alarms. There are several reports of the LifeShield system alarm going off without an apparent reason.

For those interested in purchasing home security equipment upfront, we recommend giving LifeShield a call to find out about contract lengths. Overall, this system is more expensive than Protect America (DIY installation that starts at $19.99 a month). We recommend comparing their equipment to Protect America and other home security companies. You may find that LifeShield does not offer the best deal.


About LifeShield Security

There are three LifeShield Security Systems offered – detailed below. Customers are able to purchase these equipment packages with or without professional monitoring. LifeShield offers an advantage package that may include glass break/window sensors, motion detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors and wireless security cameras, among other security features. The keychain remote and tablet control panel for arming or disarming your home while safely away from the house are also worth mentioning.

LifeShield Alarm Packages

SHIELD System: $199.15

This is ideal for apartments, condos, and small homes. As with all packages, a touchpad control screen base station is included. You also get access to the company’s Mobile App, to monitor your alarm through. Equipment included:

  • Yard and window sign
  • Motion sensor
  • Door/window sensors (pack of 4)
  • Fire sensor
  • Entry Keypad
  • Front door keypad
  • Keychain remote
SECURE System: $295.12

This system is designed for medium and large homes. It includes everything offered in the SHIELD System plus the following equipment:

  • Door/window sensors (6 total)
  • Motion sensors (2 total)
  • Indoor camera
Doorbell Camera System: $346.34

This system seems to be for smaller homes, like the SHIELD System, but also includes a Doorbell camera. Only 2 door/window sensors are included

    I would NEVER recommend anyone buy anything from this company. We ordered a system that could not be installed, their product didn’t work, I sent it back after they gave me approval and a shipping label. Now they are saying “To bad it was after 30 days.” Finally I found someone who said they would because of the circumstances. After talking with their account specialist they said it would be 14 days after they received the product back before the refund would come. It didn’t, so I called and got this answer. “As a courtesy we cancelled your contract but we will not refund your original cost!”. Even though they have the product now. When I first signed up with them they said my 76 year old mom could setup the system. Not the case. I live 500 miles away and by the time I got there to set it up it was about 20 days in. I spent 3 days and about 6 hours working with their tech support to get it to work. I even increased my internet speed and had my internet provider open ‘ports’ on my router, making it less secure just so their system would work. That didn’t work either. They just continued to blame my isp and gave up trying to get it to activate.So now they have their crappy product back and I’m out $200! What a scam! Some companies do what’s right but not LifeShield!

    Also even if your system still not opened AND they forgot to tell you you have to pay the city police 25$ and have permission FROM THEM to protect MY HOUSE with a security system..you STILL GET CHARGED MONTHLY FEE..

    Wait times are ridiculous. All I need is to reset my password so I can set up the system I received of which I’ve followed the instructions to do so and still haven’t received an email to reset it which is why I sit on hold.

    This company should be shut down! I am surprised that ADT is affiliated with them. The system is faulty and provides little no peace of mind. The sensors often report inaccurate readings, and the keypad doesn’t work! For months, we had to turn our system on and off from the app only. The camera never worked! It would take random pictures throughout the day, but never when motion was detected. If someone breaks into your home, you won’t see them on tape, but you may catch a glimpse of your front door before or after the break in. To top the horrible system off, the company has the absolute worst customer service! You are never able to speak to a manager, and they will hold you to your end of the contract as far as payment; however, they do not hold up their end by providing home protection.

    This company is garbage! The equipment is something you would get at a mark down store and outdated. Does not always work properly and they will not send anyone out to help you with technical problems. I tried to cancel to go with a legit company and they wanted to charge me a huge cancellation fee. So we’re pretty much stuck with a garbage alarm company until the contract is up. STAY FAR AWAY THIS COMPANY IS GARBAGE I PROMISE YOU!!

    Had nothing but issues with the equipment staying connected to the home base. Decided it was easier to not turn it on. paid for months because the term fees are ridiculous and it was cheaper to wait it out. The equipment is only free until you cancel then they will charge you full price for equipment that is over a year old. avoid this company.

    My Lifeshield home security hasn’t worked for 3 months and I’ve talked to numerous tech & customer service reps without success. It simply doesn’t work & this company could care less. Their customer service closes at 7 p.m., so unless you work evenings, don’t plan on getting in touch with this company. Again, my system doesn’t work.

    Do not under any circumstances sign a contract with this company.
    I foolishly have signed a 5 year contract and thank God this is my last year.
    The customer service and the system is awful.
    I have reached the end of my contract and have been trying for the last 3 months to cancel without success. I have called 4 times and each time spent at least 30 minutes on the phone being transfered to different people who in the end finally tell me for one reason or another they cant cancel my account.
    I am fed up I am writing to the better business bureau to lodge a complaint.

    I have been a LifeShield customer for about 5 or 6 years and have never had a single issue with anything. It is so easy to manage, was simple to set up, and we set it every day both when we’re at home or when we’re not. It’s been fantastic — and the monthly monitoring is so much cheaper than ADT which is what we had before LifeShield. Sign up – you won’t regret it!

    I was looking for a good alarm service, I had just relocated to a new area and was searching for security company that met my needs. Now at “sales pitch” worth selling because I was sold. So, i got the service in November 2017 very difficulty to install (my son had the tech on the phone and still problems). Now, every month i was calling the alarm company because the alarm was going off for no reason. i was sitting in my driveway when the alarm went off and LifeShield representative said that I wasn’t home and that he needed me to reset my alarm. I can’t get out the contract they make you pay the remaining balance so if i have 2 years left I have to payout the 2 years. I do not like this company I cant wait till this contract is over, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

    Don’t get stuck with a auto renewing contract with this terrible company. The equipment is outdated and lacking of features. They offered me new equipment when I tried to cancel but couldn’t come close to the cost of features of the other company I switched to.. they told me my account auto renews and I am in the middle of a contract even after 5 + years and are now charging me an early termination fee. Stay far away from them and look else where.

    If you care anything about your family do not use this company I’ve been offline for over two yearsnever received a phone call asking why the alarm has gone off three or four times without a phone call checking to see what the problem was but you can guarantee they take their monthly fee out of my checking account

    Beware of what you are getting. Ask the salesperson to repeat what you are getting twice. Be advised that what you get and the monthly payments are based on your credit. So you will not get what you ask for. They are currently introducing and month to month deal as well as a 30 day cancellation new customers who started the service on mid Feb- present. Meaning, if you are a current subscriber you are not grandfathered into deal and you are only entitled to what you signed on contract, so stop negotiating and threatening to cancel when you have a contract. The CURRENT system is REALLY easy to install. Just be weary that if you do not have high speed wireless internet , you may be left with some equipment parts or cameras for paperweight. SO ASK what internet speed you need. Lastly the customer service behind every phone is outstanding and the agents go through great lengths to make things happen for you. But you’re going to have to take their word when they say, “there’s nothing they can do”. But overall I feel the service starts at the point of sale and make sure you get ALL the info regarding the system.

    DONT DO IT!!! They lock you into a contract and lie about cancellation!! They told me it would be $15 a month for every remaining month on the contract but when I called to cancel (because Ive never once used it due to horrible equipment) They charged me the 15 a month plus $200!! So I’m going to suck it up and finish out the contract and tell everyone Not to do it!!!!

    LifeShield is the worst security system my family has ever had! The system consistently went offline. The alarm was triggered numerous times without ANY contact from LifeShield’s call center. We never missed a payment, EVER but when our alarm goes off while we are on vacation and no one is called and even with us going to our local police station and being told they were never dispatched to our address, which is what Life Shield told us, LifeShield won’t acknowledge breach of contract on their part and release us from the 3 YEAR CONTRACT you have to agree to in order to have their service.

    My family ultimately had to pay for two security systems, LifeShield and one that ACTUALLY provided security, for the duration of the LifeShield contract. We went with LifeShield because of the discount we received from our DirectTV service but it definitely was not worth it.
