LifeShield is an ADT company that operates in all 50 states.
The security company currently sells equipment upfront ($300+) and charges $24.98 for professional monitoring. Equipment can also be purchased with monitoring.
This Lifeshield review will cover the pros, cons, and include our recommendation to customers.
- Installation Options
- Average Monthly Monitoring Fees
- 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Customers have the ability to decide whether to enlist the help of a professional or save on costs and install the system on their own.
Average Monthly Monitoring Fees
The LifeShield home security model encourages people to purchase their equipment upfront (see the "About LifeShield Security) below for details).
After that, the company charges $24.98 a month for 24/7 Professional Monitoring, although you can skip the alarm monitoring if you just want to equipment.
This monthly cost is average in the home security industry, although the upfront fees are significantly higher.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Essentially, new customers get to try out LifeShield for free for 30 days. If all goes well, you will automatically be charged the next month at the rate you signed up for.
- Credit Check Requirement
- High Upfront Fees
- Negative Reviews
Credit Check Requirement
LifeShield requires new customers to pass a credit check and sign a long-term, three-year contract.
If customers wish to cancel but fail to do so within the 15-day grace period, they will be subject to early termination fees.
There are also many reviews that make mention of the alarm monitoring center not being as responsive to alarm triggers as they ought to be.
High Upfront Fees
In order to be on the company's month-to-month contract (where you can cancel at anytime), you will have to purchase at least $300 worth of equipment upfront.
The Doorbell Camera System is $356.34 upfront, so if you choose that plan, you can automatically have a month-to-month contract.
However, the SECURE System and the SHIELD system have less than $300 worth of equipment included, so you will need to add more equipment to those packages.
For a complete list of the LifeShield security system packages, see our About section below.
The LifeShield reviews on our site are overwhelmingly negative. Customers rate them at an average of 3 out of 10. Some common themes among our LifeShield Security reviews include the following:
- Contracts. Even though LifeShield now advertises that their contracts are month-to-month, many customers have complained about being locked into a 3- or 5-year contract. If you are interested in LifeShield, we recommend asking them about their contract and reading it over before you sign anything. Pay attention to if you contract auto renews and how to cancel.
- Customer Service. According to one reviewer, their customer service is not available 24/7. Overall, reviews mention unfulfilled promises from customer service agents and rude conversations.
- False Alarms. There are several reports of the LifeShield system alarm going off without an apparent reason.
For those interested in purchasing home security equipment upfront, we recommend giving LifeShield a call to find out about contract lengths. Overall, this system is more expensive than Protect America (DIY installation that starts at $19.99 a month).
We recommend comparing their equipment to Protect America and other home security companies.
You may find that LifeShield does not offer the best deal.
About LifeShield Security
There are three LifeShield Security Systems offered - detailed below. Customers are able to purchase these equipment packages with or without professional monitoring.
LifeShield offers an advantage package that may include glass break/window sensors, motion detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors and wireless security cameras, among other security features.
The keychain remote and tablet control panel for arming or disarming your home while safely away from the house are also worth mentioning.
How Much Does LifeShield Security Cost?
LifeShield Security charges $24.98/mo for its home monitoring services. It also charges $199.15-$346.34 for equipment and installation, depending on which equipment you decide to purchase.
SHIELD System: $199.15
This is ideal for apartments, condos, and small homes. As with all packages, a touchpad control screen base station is included. You also get access to the company's Mobile App, to monitor your alarm through. Equipment included:
- Yard and window sign
- Motion sensor
- Door/window sensors (pack of 4)
- Fire sensor
- Entry Keypad
- Front door keypad
- Keychain remote
SECURE System: $295.12
This system is designed for medium and large homes. It includes everything offered in the SHIELD System plus the following equipment:
- Door/window sensors (6 total)
- Motion sensors (2 total)
- Indoor camera
Doorbell Camera System: $346.34
This system seems to be for smaller homes, like the SHIELD System, but also includes a Doorbell camera. Only 2 door/window sensors are included
Build Your Own System
LifeShield offers the following home security and home automation equipment for you to build your own system, or add on to one of their three packages:
Door Sensor: a door sensor is generally extremely loud and effective in deterring burglars from entering your home. They are generally one of the cheaper products offered by a home security company. Additionally, your door sensors should be quite easy to install yourself.
Window Sensor: window sensors are generally the exact same as door sensors and should be just as affordable, easy to install, and an effective addition to your security system.
Motion Sensor: Because motion detection is such a vital part of your home security system, it is generally included in the basic package for any home security company. The basic Lifeshield home security system does include a motion sensor. Motion sensors may be wireless, can include a smart camera, and even might connect to your Lifeshield app to notify you when it senses an intruder.
Glass Break Sensor: Glass break sensors are designed to detect the sound of breaking glass. They can usually be set to different modes or settings depending on how sensitive you want the sensor to be. A good glass break sensor will have 8 - 10 year battery life.
Temperature: A temperature sensor is different and, many time, much simpler than thermometers. Temperature sensors are designed to notify home owners when temperatures get too low or too high. This can be valuable information, as low temperatures can damage your home and property if you haven't prepared properly.
Flood Sensor: A flood sensor is not necessary for every wireless home security system. If customers live in areas prone to flooding, we recommend you pay to include a flood sensor in your alarm system.
Wireless Remote: While a remote is not a security essential, it does make life significantly easier, especially for children or young adults who may not know how to work the alarm system. The wireless remote arms and disarms your home security system with one click.
Fire Alarm: Besides the fact that state law requires a fire alarm, it is perhaps the most essential alarm that your home security can include. A fire safety sensor will detect smoke, carbon monoxide, and should have a battery life of 8-10 years.
HD Video Doorbell camera: One of the newest additions in home security tech, a doorbell camera will notify you when someone approaches your door and allow you to see and interact with said person. In our opinion, an HD Video Doorbell Camera is a luxury and not an essential part of a home security system. However, it will improve your home security substantially.
Indoor Camera: An essential inclusion of any security company, an indoor camera will allow you to record and store video in case of break ins.
Outdoor Camera: Just like the indoor camera, an outdoor camera allows you to save and store video. This may be included on a motion sensor to notify you when the camera detects movement.
Although you can connect your devices with smart home automation hubs, like Alexa, LifeShield offers less home automation products than many other companies.

Was surprised that the included tablet was as nice, and actually legit! Basically an iPad running my whole system!!! Not sure how they can afford to include it for free, but with nothing upfront, and easy installation, I'm definitely a huge fan so far! (Installed system July 2nd)

The equipment is just fine. Phone assistance has been stellar. Easy to operate. My biggest disappointment has been the "professional" installation that I paid for. The company that LifeShield contracted had done very few LifeShield systems and it showed. They did not check the functionality of individual sensors and subsequently, I found five of twenty-four improperly configured and not functioning. LifeShield did ship me some free sensors that I need to compensate. Overall, I am very happy after approximately thirty days of service. I would recommend this system to a friend or family member.

If your looking for a great system that is easy to install, you can't beat this. The main kit's components are all preregistered to each other. All I had to do was place the sensors on the windows and doors, plug in the control units and it activated itself. Adding additional sensors took about 2 minutes each. Has online access and a mobile app that allow you to control your system from anywhere. Fantastic System!

Great system. Best part is their app Lifeview. You can literally turn your system on or off from anywhere. I'm always on the go and being able to see what's going on at my house at any point all from my iphone is so convenient. They include these services free too so it's really affordable along with being convenient.

great customer service, our sales rep took the time to figure which system fit my family and lifestyle the best. They even took the time to explain to me some of the Lifeshield features that really make my family safer and my life easier. The service was so great I even recommended this to my neighbors and 2 of them ended up getting a LifeShield system. - The safest block in Mission Viejo

After years of being unhappy with ADT service and increasing monthly fees, I spent a lot of time looking for a new alarm company to rely on to give me the protection I need without the hassle. In the end I chose LifeShield, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! I use multiple connections for added protection and the fire sensor makes me feel truly protected. The best part - it's been over a year and no increases in my monthly monitoring! Thanks LifeShield!

I'm so happy I decided to have LifeShield protect me. Living on my own I wanted to have someone there for me, and LifeShield gives me that sense of security. What I like best is their unbeatable protection - no matter what happens my system stays on. I also love how up-to-date they are with everything, from wireless communication to phone apps and remote access, LifeShield stays current.

Just bought a new home, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 bird. Spoke with an awesome rep. (I think her name was stephany) Got my box and installed my system last week. I LOVE IT!! My wife is constantly checking the local crime watch it comes with. Arm it every night!

The customer service was great, the sales agent Scott really took the time to listen to my security needs, concerns, he even helped identify the right kit for my family and budget. I have to say it was really a refreshing to not be pressured into buying, the entire process was very easy and not the least bit complicated . - they really cared about me as a person! - They even called me to help make sure everything was going well after I bought the system. I've recommended LifeShield to a few of my neighbors and 2 of them have bought a system too!

I had someone break into my van last week and steal my wallet, iPad, even my redbull! I'm a tech geek, so I went with LifeSheild because of the appeal of better software technology. Let me just say, it works as good as it looks! My driveway is under 24/7 suvalience now. I DARE any punks to try to break into my car now.

I am a gadget and tech guy and that is why I chose LifeShield. I looked at the other companies in Home Security and nobody could match what LifeShield offers for the price they offer it at. I love the lifeview website. They added this cool dragable widget thing to the first login screen. I like that I can align them so I see what is important to me when I login. I was lucky enough to get their new Touchscreen Console. That thing is awesome. The navigation is slick and it looks great. I found a mounting bracket on amazon that works with it, so now it sits on my wall. I barely use the old keypad anymore.

I love the system, control everything from my phone, but getting someone over there to help me with a sensor has been less than stellar. :(

I'm a bit of a tech geek, and these guys really have a unique product. I ordered mine and installed it myself, and so far the upgrade has been awsome. Love it love it. I'll update if I do have any issues.

Setting up everything was super easy. Customer service was great. Installing it was easy. The only thing is that the equipment seems a little cheap. Other than that I can't complain.

Top wireless home security. My wife was able to set up in less than 30 minutes...much cheaper than other companies but quality seemed great. They have a cool app called Lifeview.

All I wanted was something for my apartment. You wouldn't believe how hard it was as a renter to get an alarm system. Just finished setting up the renters package with these guys. Everything looks great so far.

I'm a customer with Lifeshield and is disappointed with the customer service. Usually any kind of contracts is expected to be reviewed at the end of renewal period except for this company's. I would say anyone I know that this company is not worth the cheap rates they offer because they will trick you into renewing the term by their weirdest rule and would try to torture the customer saying you have to do this because you put a signature down in our papers a year ago and that now gives us right to charge you for the rest of your life with or without your consent. No one in the company seems to care about a unhappy customer. But I'll make sure I let my friends and people in my community know how much their terms and conditions suck. And that this is one of those companies that take your money saying we crammed all those rights into 15 page contract terms we gave you!
