Security System Overview

My Alarm Center is a national company and partners with local reps to service customers throughout the US. The brand of equipment in home security packages depends on the region. My Alarm Company uses both Honeywell and GE equipment in their home security packages. The install fee includes the installation and price of equipment. Monitoring fees depend service type e.g. cellular, interactive, and landline.

The basic My Alarm Center home security package includes:

  • 1 control panel
  • 3 window/door sensors
  • 1 motion detector
  • 1 key fob

The Good

My Alarm Center has security plan options to help keep you and your family safe. They wirelessly connect you to police stations, fire stations, and emergency response teams nearby.

My Alarm Center has wireless installation, meaning it is quick and easy, with no need to rewire your home. It is also installed by technicians who are local experts and can give you the best service for your neighborhood. MyHome Total Home Control has several packages to pick from, depending on your individual security needs; all of which are at very affordable rates. They have been in business for a significant amount of time and have relatively few complaints. Upon new registrations, you get one month of free service.

The Bad

There are 4 options of packages for MyHome, however you lose certain features for each step down in price. There have been few complaints, however the majority of them are problems with the product/service and billing/collection issues. Some customers have argued that the company renewed their contract automatically, and consequently, the customer had to pay their way out of the contract in the end.

The Bottom Line

Overall, this company seems like a good choice if you are looking for service which includes a broad selection of security features with some extra convenience features. It has been in business for enough time to have earned this reputation with very few complaints. If you are thinking about trying this service, make sure to watch your contract dates and read all fine print. On the whole, MyHome packages from My Alarm Center are a high-quality choice to keep your family and home safe.

The Good

My Alarm Center provides multiple options for purchasing a home automation system.  The first package is the MyHome package, which includes remote arm/disarming, event text alerts, remotely managed keypad codes, and view event history.  The main option is MyHome Premium.  This package includes everything that the basic package includes plus the following:

  • Remote thermostat control and scheduling
  • Remote light control and scheduling
  • Remote door lock/unlock
  • View live video
  • Review saved video clips
  • Receive video alerts

This top package costs $59.99/month for 36 months and is their all-inclusive package.  Compared to many top packages, the MyHome Premium is one of the best in the industry.  It includes many scheduling, text/email, and weather alerts that other companies do not provide.

The Bad

The only main downside is that even after you purchase the top package you still have to purchase the video surveillance equipment.  With the premium package they provide you with the option to monitor and receive video image notifications but they do not provide the camera equipment to capture them.  Therefore, customers have to purchase them a la carte.

The Bottom Line

My Alarm Center offers some of the best home automation packages in the country.  With four options to choice from, customers can decide which package is most suitable for their needs.  If you are in the market for home automation and want a variety of options to choose from we suggest picking up a system from My Alarm Center.

    I was sitting at home one night enjoying a few beers. Two young men knocked on my door and sold me a my alarm security system. Huge mistake. I did not realize at the time i was signing up for a 5 year contract until i read the paper work later. The sales people did not inform me verbally about it and i was a little intoxicated and wasn’t as precautions as i usually am sober. Unfortunately i made a mistake but i feel like i was taken advantage of. I’ve been trying to buy out of my contract but they offer a little discount to pay it off and will not offer to make my monthly payments cheaper. It is hard for me to afford the monthly payments. I find most other companies are willing to work with you, not arm alarm. There are much cheaper options out there. Be smarter than me. Don’t talk to door to door salesmen, especially if you are slightly intoxicated. Don’t sign into a ridiculous contract. This simple alarm system will cost me around $3,500.00!!!! Not a good company

    Do not use this company. The service and Customer Service is not the best. I had appointment for them to come to look at my camera, and other things that are going wrong with this system. The appointment was cancel by the company they use to troubleshoot for them…The excuse I got was I needed to reschedule another day, that was very unprofessional after i told them it was cruial they come today, I was leaving ou oft town and the problem needed to be fix.

    I have had over two years into a 36 month contract, and have had nothing but problems. This company refuses to service their product after the sale and when you become so dissatisfied that you wish to cancel, they make you buy your contract out. Buyer beware!

    Useless is the word. Please read this before you take their services:

    1. You are signing a contract. Beware of the sales rep who will ask you to agree to terms and conditions and will request you to say yes for a 36 months contract, just a formality and getting out of the contract is a minimal fee of like $100
    2. They will not put a single sensor from their end and use everything existing. Both my backdoors were left and was asked to shell extra $200 to get them secured. Wow, so I should always expect someone to barge from my front door
    3. Coming out of contract, well you need to pay all remaining amount of the contrcat and not $100, to me I was asked $979
    4. You cant upgrade for a better service under curremt contract, sign up for a new one or continue with the pathetic one

    I dont have choice but you do so don’t get fooled. This is a local sec alarm company. Go for other established companies. Wasting $37 a month for this one is not at all advisable.

    DONT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. Most people don’t choose them for their alarm service. You start with another company and when it gets toward the end of that contract, that contract is sold to my Alarm Service. The business model they operate under is to use all kinds of shady tactics to try to keep billing you after the contract is up. Instead of focusing on offering you excellent service or state of the art equipment and technology they focus on calling you, writing you, requesting termination letters, requesting the letter again and requesting that letter yet again. Can’t understand why they don’t chose to focus their energies on the options of excellent service, technology and equipment to keep your business.

    In my case they said I couldn’t initiate the termination of the contract. Even though the contract was initially for three years and was over in OCT 2015. They said I didn’t sign the contract. ( we bought a new house and signed the alarm service contract at closing. It was a deal offered by our builder and managed by Westminister Alarm service ). The contract was in me and my husbands name but there was only space for one person to sign the contract so my husband signed it and I didn’t. But I did initial the contract in three places along with my husbands initials. THE BILL HAS COME TO OUR HOUSE FOR OVER 3 YEARS IN MY NAME ALONE! But yet they said I couldn’t initiate a termination even after the initial original contract period of 3 years was up.

    So my husband did get on the phone and tell them to stop the service. That wasn’t enough. They kept writing and calling and billing. In January we spent 30 minutes talking on the phone with them, escalating the call to a supervisor, my husband spoke to them and sent that doggone letter in his name. We were told we were getting an adjustment on the bill canceling out the service and charges going back to October and we were done with them.. The end right! No way no how! Started getting those calls again and in April we got a bill saying we owe them $200, saying they need a termination letter from my husband. Really! You put someone through all of this to cancel a fricking alarm service after 3 years and the contract is already done? In my case my family member was going through a very serious and debilitating illness. And I got this shady, joke of a company hassling me about terminating an alarm service.

    Have a system in my home for over three years and hasn’t been monitor, they claim that it is and that they show signal. After all this time come to find out that all my upstairs windows haven’t been protected and they don’t have anything but excuses. You installed the system and now you don’t know. If you can continue to look else where to find someone to protect your home, this isn’t the company. The girl in service named Theresa wants to talk to you like a kid and doesn’t even know anything. Best bet is staying away from companies like this.

    The alarm company we used for 20 years sold out to this one a couple of years ago. One of our smoke detectors broke and we called for service. The guy came out to look, fiddled with the system so now nothing works. They wanted us to replace the system, so we started shopping around and decided to change companies. Now they are saying we didn’t use the “code word” when we tried to cancel their service and want us to pay another for quarter. Worst customer service ever! They are holding us hostage!

    We used this service for 10 years always paying for a year’s worth of services in advance. We started having trouble with our alarm system in 2014 and ended up switching services in October 2014. We had several conversations with My Alarm Center during the switch over. We never asked for a refund of the months paid for but not used. In January of 2015 we received a bill for the 2015 year, we explained to them that we have not used their services since October 2014 and would not be paying for the 2015 year. They continue to harass us for payment and now have sent us to collections for an amount over 2 years worth of service. Never sign into a contract with this company because apparently you can never get out of it.

    I have called and canceled this service 3 times since April 27, 2015. They told me to send an email letter which I did on April 27, 2015 and I have called them to confirm that they did receive the cancellation. I was told I owe them $264.39 for canceling early. I told them to send me the bill so I can pay them. They did not send the bill and still tried to charge by bank account for monthly monitoring service. I got that reversed as it is fraud. Then I got a bill in the mail, not for $264.39 but for $34.47. I called and told them I already cancelled several months ago and for them to stop billing me for monthly service. I was told it was canceled but not really. I do not know what that means does not make any sense but I did pay them with credit card for early termination $264.39. Now I got another bill for $103.41. This is fraud.

    This company committed fraud to enroll me in July of 2013 when I never heard of them and my home wasn’t even finished until May of 2014. I didn’t sign a contract to build my home until October 2013–so I certainly never heard of them in July of 2013.

    And try canceling and they will ignore you and harass you with phone call after phone call, despite letter after letter telling them I wanted to cancel–including Certified letters.

    DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT sign up with this company for any reason They are crooks and frauds.

    They failed to install our alarm and sent us to collections. Worst company ever. The alarm system they installed was faulty. They did not finish installing and never responded to requests for service. Collection agency sent letter, we responded and they said “not approved.” Did not give reason. Now collection agency says that they are sending the case back to my alarm to “go after us.” What does that mean?

    This company is horrible!!! They were dumped on me by default by a previous alarm company no longer in business. I no longer own the property and live out of state and that does not stop them from calling and calling and calling harassing me. I strongly encourage you NOT to go near this company. The are desperate, money hungry, and obviously have no interest in in my best interest. I had to hire an attorney.

    Terrible.
    No clue what they are doing or what is going on.
    Alarm went off one night, no one knows what triggered it, took me one hour to reach someone who had any expertise. Keep routing me to a different person as the alarm is screaming in the background. Each person kept asking me for name, rank, and serial number.

    No clue how to bill a customer. My invoices disappeared for a month off their website. Talked to two separate reps and each one gave me a circular answer. Reps contradict themselves, repeatedly.

    DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY…

    I had my home monitoring from Guardian Alarm from 2009 until 2012 when MyAlarmCenter company took over. Since, The keep increasing cost between 50 to 75 cents monthly which I am still OK. Lately, I decided to eliminate my phone line service and called MyAlarmCenter customer service for this change. They advised me to have an uplink transmitter which will cost $99 and an extra monthly charge from $22.95 to $32.95 if I don’t have a phone line. So, I shopped around and found out a local company charge me the uplink device for $89 plus fix $16.95 monthly charge. Obvious, I signed up with this company and called to cancel the monitoring service from MyAlarmCenter company. They questioned me why and I explained I called their customer service and the cost is too high so I switch another company. Then he offered me $26 a month instead of $34. I told him, it is too late since I already signed up with another company. Then he told me to cancel this new company and he is willing to lower the price. However, I don’t like this kind of dishonesty business and request to cancel my account. Now, he comes with the threaten part by forcing me to pay penalty since I had a life time binding contract with them which makes non sense to me.

    So, is it the company you want to deal with?
    The answer is clear with my rating “0” for this company. Hope this review will help if you are thinking about this company…

    I rate this alarm company the highest mark I think they can receive. I have been with the company for nearly 14 years and I had one complaint and that issue was dealt with professionally. This is a customer friendly company and my services are wonderful. My family and I feel very secure in their hands.
