Pros

SSA has been in business since 1976 and since that time has established themselves as one of the leaders in home security.  They were ranked as one of the top 100 security companies in the nation by SDM magazine.  One of their biggest selling points is the amount of equipment they offer new customers.  Most companies’ starting packages come with two or three door/window sensors.  SSA’s comes with eight, meaning that even some of the small, less-likely points of entry can be covered.  They also include email and smartphone monitoring which allows the customer to control their system remotely.  Another positive is their cancelation policy.  Typically home security companies require repayment on the full remaining balance at the time of cancelation.  However, SSA only asks for 75% of the balance, which is one of the better policies in the industry.

Cons

For the new customer, there are not many issues with SSA.  The only foreseeable problem could be that since they are a smaller company (about 50 employees) they might lack some of the amenities that a larger company might offer.  For example, no middle-of-the-night technicians, no free battery replacements, and you might not be able to move your system to a new house if it is out of their primary service area.

About Security Systems of America

Security Systems of America focuses on cellular-based systems and provides a basic package that uses GE Concord equipment.  The initial costs depend on the home for installation and activation and then a varied pricing structure for a specific term length which includes 24/hr monitoring.  With this package customers receive the following equipment:

  • 1 Simon interactive touch-screen system
  • 1 main panel
  • 1 Key fob
  • 1 motion sensor
  • 8 door/window sensors
  • 1 Siren

Customers should be aware that SSA has an online special that requires upfront costs.  This deal can only be achieved if you order a system through the website.

    This the worst security company ever! We used them for our home for a few years. Once we had an issue with the box, that’s where it all went downhill. Customer service, has no manners, very rude, and the service technician is even worse. Tech switched phone lines without permission, destroyed room by tossing clothes and jewelry to the floor, and unhooked cable lines. Thank goodness I took pics because the customer service rep expressed his unbelief and blatantly told me I lied. UNTIL, I produced the pics!!
    It took a week to get service cancelled and I had to have a PROFESSIONAL rehook phones lines. This was a nightmare that I hope never happens to anyone else.

    Three appointments in a row the tech did not show, cancelled or was going to be significantly late therefore resulting in a cancel! I was supposed to be a new customer switching over service, but they apparently weren’t too concerned about my business. The supervisor I spoke to, also was not cooperative or willing to provide more appropriate customer service. I would not recommend them, as they are NOT reliable! I will not be giving them my business!

    “Outstanding Technician” we manage the economy inn in somerset,pa. there was a malfunction with the fire alarm system..mr . Peter H..diagnosed the problem & fixed it. we were very impressed with his ability & knowledge. please extend our sincere gratitude to mr.Peter H.

    Buyer beware! We moved into a house that had SSA installed already, and it looked like a good system. The technician who came to set us up and test the existing equipment was friendly and on time. Just 3 weeks later the smoke detector part of the system malfunctioned; we were told it was a 10-year old system that would probably malfunction again (according to the fireman who came for the false alarm and the second technician who replaced the system); and we had to pay $150 for a new detector and labor. SSA would not budge on the $150 charge, not even the labor. When I asked about the cancellation policy they said sorry, 3 year contract, if you cancel you still have to pay for all 3 years. Staff in the Johnstown office are friendly and responsive, and the system has good features, but now we are no longer confident in the system (what else is going to fail?) and feel ripped off to be charged for a part the original technician should have replaced on day one. We never had this issue in the 12 years we had ADT.

    If you use SSA Security you need to know about this. I have been with them for 6 years. They called me last night with a false alarm. That was OK but the problem was they didn’t know my address or my password. If they would have had to send help it would have gone to our old address. We moved 3 years ago and we had SSA come to our new shop and do the install. So for the last 3 years we had NO protection. I should also mention that I never did give them what they though was the right password but they never sent the police. Needless to say I’ll be looking for a new service today.

    I switched from guardian to SSA and the response time is unbelievable, I was cleaning around a motion detector once and set the alarm off because I took it down, didn’t know it would go off, SSA Monitoring called me in less then a minute!!! I set the alarm off on accident when I had Guardian and I’m still waiting for them to call! I have peace of mind with SSA

    I have been a long time customer with SSA. I have never had a problem with their system or their service team. They are always there to help. From their Monitoring Station to their office staff everyone is friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know.
