ASG Security has two types of systems: Vista 20 and 2GIG. The Vista 20, built by Ademco, is a hardwired system that connects to a landline. VISTA-20P gives you the ability to send alarm signals and upload/download via an Internet Protocol (IP), improving the speed at which information can be delivered to and from the control panel. The panel’s installation advantages, innovative end-user benefits and robust system capacity make the value-priced VISTA-20P an ideal choice for higher end installations.

The 2GIG system is wireless and supports GSM communication allowing for cellular monitoring. The 2GIG system comes with a GO! Control Panel. Go!Control allows the central station to listen in and talk to the homeowner when a signal is received. In addition, customers can now control lighting, HVAC, and other Z-Wave appliances in the home right from the panel, web-enabled phone, or the internet. No need for extra hardware—it’s all contained within the Go!Control panel.

The standard ASG Security package includes:

  • 1 control panel
  • 3 window/door sensors
  • 1 motion detector
  • Yard sign and decals

The Good

ASG Security has built their business model around customer interaction and service. They pride themselves in giving personal one-on-one attention to customers. ASG Security offers to packages with two competitive prices. The monitoring fee for their wireless, cellular system starts at $27.99 per month. ASG has licenses in 18 states + DC in the US. While they may intentionally limit themselves to a smaller customer base, they’ve done so in efforts to provide a premium service.

ASG Security has an A+ with the Better Business Bureau and has received a marginal 101 complaints in the last 3-years all of which are resolved.

The Bad

ASG Security’s web site does not provide information such as pricing and equipment specs/details. We called their head quarters and were directed to call a local branch. The local branch then prompted us to give our telephone number to be contacted by a sales rep. The customer information and process could be more efficient. It took us 4 calls to discover information about pricing, installation fees, and equipment details.

ASG is not as transparent as they could be when it comes to providing information needed by a consumer. This is somewhat of a concern. BHSC experts reached out to ASG security and are concerned with the following practices:

  1. Lack of transparency – It shouldn’t take four phone calls to find out (or provide an estimate) about how much a service costs. Why is that a secret?
  2. Limited options – The installation must be done by a professional (which means spending a little extra), even though it is a wireless system.
  3. Billing – Some customers have experienced an increase in rate without being given prior notice.

The Bottom Line

ASG Security is a reputable company. While finding information about packages and pricing is somewhat difficult, we recommend making the effort. This is a professional install home security system, thus those looking for DIY systems we recommend looking elsewhere. If you’re in Texas or any state East research this company yourself and consider them in your decision.

The Good

The ASG home automation system allows you to walk into your home and instantly feel comfortable by giving you the ability to remotely control light switches, doors, and the temperature.  It provides an easier way to manage the technologies you depend on for a secure, comfortable home.  The following are the main features that come with an ASG home automation system:

  1. Touch Screen Panel – When you integrate the automation system with the alarm system, everything you need to manage the home can be done from the wall-mounted digital LCD panel.  No push buttons. No codes.  Just simple, easy-to-read text on a touch screen display.
  2. Temperature Control – This is another convenient feature offered by the ASG system.  Control the climate of your home every day from wherever you happen to be.  For example, on a cold day you can heat up your house on your way home from work so it’s comfortable when you get home.
  3. Lighting and Small Appliance Control – From your touch screen panel you can control anything from lamps to curling irons to coffee pots.  Any lights or appliances that often are forgotten can be turned off on a schedule so you don’t have to worry.
  4. Mobile Desktop Account Center – With ASG Connect, it is easy to interact with your home from wherever you are.  Just simply log onto the webpage and you can view the entire home and account info from any device.  This also allows you to make any adjustments to the system from the road.
  5. Electronic Door Locks – With this feature integrated into your security system you can remotely lock and unlock doors from anywhere.

The Bad

While ASG provides a quality home automation package, it is missing some of the typical features offered by other home security companies.  For example, with thermostat control most companies also include a flood sensor, freeze-pipe sensor, a smoke detector, and a carbon monoxide detector.  These features allow homeowners further protection and monitoring capabilities over their own homes.  Another common function in other home automation packages is video surveillance systems coupled with remote smart phone monitoring capabilities.  For example, through ADT when you purchase their home automation package you get indoor and outdoor camera equipment with live image reports.

The Bottom Line

ASG provides a basic home automation package, which compliments their home security system.  With remote access to a home’s basic functions, homeowners are able to save time and money on their energy bills.  If you live within their service area we suggest discussing your options further with a qualified representative.

    Been with the company two years. I have no complaints about the equipment or their service as concerning when the alarm does go off. My problem is with the billing. Upon signing up I was told my contract was for two years with a locked in price. after installation I read my contract which said three years and nothing about a locked price. So I contacted my sales representative and explained what I read and he assured me that what he told me was correct (though the contract didn’t state it) so I asked him to send me in writing what we had agreed on and he did. after a year (I had automated bank draft) my monthly payment went up almost $5 with no notice so I called ASG and was told a notice was sent out months ago, I got no such notice. I sent them a copy of my salesperson letter. Never heard from them but they did drop the price but gave me a charge of an extra $2 because I cancel the automatic draft. A couple days ago I went to pay my bill online and notice that my price had gone up again this time over $8. So now I’m having to go right back through writing letters. I have eleven more months on my contract and I doubt I will stay with them. Clearly They do not honor what their representative tell their customers. And I’m aware that after my third year they will automate lock me into another two year contract and then go up on my service twice in those two years. I understand things going up but without any special features or upgrade and more importantly no warning. I don’t own a money tree, I want to be inform of changes. Can’t say I would recommend them, services isn’t bad but the bottom line is money.

    Increased rate with no notice. Sales rep lied regarding this amongst other things in the sales pitch. When calling to put in my notice to cancel told had to be 30-day notice, not 12 months. I’ll put it in writing and mail it in see what happens. I’ll call every month from now until end of contract. I do not recommend this company.

    I will never use this company again I had all kind of problems and they kept billing me after I told them I was going to pay them in full after the job was done and I did pay them in full I call them about a week and a half ago because I could not pull my cameras up on my cellphone or ipad and Paul told me that he was going to call or get someone out here I have not heard from them yet this is the same stuff that happen when we had them to put up the cameras it took over a month to get the job done at first they put up what they wanted to put up after my husband told them that he did not want no wireless cameras they did take them down almost a month later after they could not get them to work right Believe me no no no I would not recommend them to no one because I feel that they are not dependable at all If you are a good company I let people no and if you don’t do what you suppose to I tell the truth because I will never miss lead people I believe in doing things the right way

    Terrible service, Paid extra for the platinum repair service and now we get no service. Dont use them. We have called them 20 times and all they do is lie about calling you back, or you get put on hold forever. Bad, Bad company

    My system inexplicably began experiencing “system communication” errors. My attempts to get someone on customer service would usually end up with telephone death holds. I submitted a request for service on the internet and received no response. I left a voicemail with the person who sold us the system and got no response. I finally managed to get through customer service and scheduled a service call. The tech calls on the way out and tells us we have to pay for the charge (we pay a monthly maintenance fee). After a bit of discussion with him, he relents and acknowledges no charge. He shows up and then tells us that ASG had upgraded their software so our panels are no longer compatible. Then says he has no hardware with which to replace the panels and needs to come back. These people appear to be profoundly inept and I have zero confidence they can respond to an emergency given that they can’t maintain their own internal product compatibility. We will be using a new company in short order, even if it means we have to double pay.

    This was cancelled two years ago and now I am receiving bills again. When I called the co. I was told to disregard the bill. I need this insanity to stop.

    Talk about the worst customer service possible. I’ve been with the former company Asg took over and never had problems till this company came to play. Being a loyal customer for 9 1/2 yrs and NEVER being charged for labor because my pkg included this service now after so many yrs I never had labor and parts included which is crap. Every time we have a thunderstorm my alarm goes off and opens my garage door but it’s” not their system “; yeah. Services tech came out to fix my system after one storm and now key remote don’t work which were working fine before. They increase your bill with no notifications and claimed they mailed them out. Stay away from Asg in McAllen,Tx!!

    ASG just tried to pass on another price increase. This is the second time they have tried this. The first time they told me my contract was up. No it wasn’t. This time they told me it was a billing error that I didn’t catch for 3 months. Both times they have fixed it, but I shouldn’t have to watch them. Just think of all the people they changed rates on without notifying them and who didn’t call in and have it fixed. Simply put, I think they are dishonest and are deceptive in their billing practices.

    Company increases rates without prior notice. The contract has falsified electronic signatures. You cannot leave them without a 30 day written notice and if you dont provideit you will be locked in. Very deceptive

    After a phone call and letter to stop monitoring service on a house that was being sold, I found out they had continued to bill me for 3 months from my Visa account. When I called them about returning my money and to stop the billing they said they would not because they had not received the letter…..but beyond that they said that I had not EVER called them and because they did not have the record of the phone call in their computer then it did not happen! They could not have been monitoring the home because it required my phone line and the phone had been disconnected! They have lied and stolen money for services they have not provided while they did it. My bank is assisting with the retrieval of my stolen funds.

    Asg in fort Lauderdale is the worst alarm company i have delt with before national alarms got sold customer service was great now asg i cancelled. 14 of my accounts i do not want my alarm being covered by the slobs that work at asg dan robinson is a asshole since national alarm was there and the new gm bobby is a wack job do not trust to sign up with thia company not worth it they are so disorganized and no proffesional skills bobby does not no how to run the buisness. Thank you for your time

    paid for service for 5 years. Alarm went off at 2:00am while at hospital with my husband who had surgery so I had to rush home to a false alarm. Sh** happens. In 2013 i paid annual fee and my home was hit by a car which made it impossible to arm the alarm so i paid for 12 months of service when I eas unable to use alarm. When renewal came due 12 months later i told them i no longer wanted the service and was not renewing. They said I had to put it in writing which was ridiculous but I did it. Only to get continues bills followed by being place in a collection agency for an unpaid debt. This us the only negative on my credit and i’m pissed. I called Experian to have them remove it. I would like to sue these idiots. If anyone kmiws of s lawsiut I can join to teach these crooks a lesson, let me know. Oh yea, I forgot to menfion that my father died right before my home was hit by a car, I was handing the estate and succession while being treated for depression and uncontrollable crying and when I explained this to ASG and told them by not paying means I no longer want their service, they said I had to put it in writing. Horrible Public Relations.

    FOR YOU BUSINESS OWNERS… THEY HAVE THE ABSOLUTELY WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!! BAIT AND SWITCH. GOOD LUCK TRYING TO GET THEM TO REPLY TO ANY TYPE OF SERVICE REQUEST. I’M STILL CHASING THEM TO MAKE SOME MINOR CHANGES AFTER 3 MONTHS. TIME TO SWITCH ALARM COMPANIES. I WILL NEVER REFER THEM TO ANYONE

    Very incompetent and dishonest. They have overcharged me, over the contract price for years. Attempted to bill extra for services clearly included in the contracted. Came for appointments after I clearly told them i would not be home.ignored letters to correct bill.do not let them near your property

    I was a customer for over 10 years when I found my service had not worked for 6 months. I called and cancelled my account and they billed me an extra months fee even though they advised I had been without service for 6 months. Now, over a YEAR AFTER CANCELLATION I have received a OVERDUE ACCOUNT notice telling me I am $102.58 overdue. They are a bunch of crooks. Stay away from this company.
