Pros

In addition to its home security features, Central Security Group provides a number of home automation devices (e.g. automated thermostats, door locks, lighting, and garage door openers) that are all accessible through CSG’s mobile app. CSG has even optimized its mobile app for the Apple Watch, so you can control your home and view your security camera footage anywhere.

Central Security Group provides a number of insurance incentives to help customers save money. Depending on your current insurer’s eligibility, you could save up to 20% on your monthly insurance premiums by having a security system installed in your home. CSG will also reimburse you up to $1,360 towards your insurance deductible if the home security system is unable to detect a theft on the premises (certain restrictions apply). Few companies truly make the effort to protect consumers in the event of a break-in.

Cons

Central Security Group is only available in 17 states throughout the southern region of the United States. One common customer complaint has to do with Central Security Groups confusing contract terms. Few customers are told that the contract automatically renews if they fail to cancel this renewal within 30 days of the original contract expiring. This means if customers wish to cancel their contract more than 30 days after its renewal, they will be required to pay 100% of the contract balance (roughly $480 for a 12-month renewal). There is also a bit of confusion as to the proper cancellation procedures. CSG requires customers to provide a written request for cancellation; simply calling customer service is not sufficient.

In addition to CSG’s confusing contract terms, the company ranks poorly in online transparency. For customers wanting information on pricing, exclusions, promotion details, and equipment provided, a simple site search is not enough; they will need to request a free quote. Customers should exercise caution when dealing with any home security company that does not make basic information like monthly monitoring fees upfront.

Our Recommendation

Central Security Group provides average home security and home automation services. Customers should be prepared to ask a lot of questions when contacting CSG before they find satisfactory information. Because Central Security Group operates through several different dealers throughout the southern United States, customers should be prepared for inconsistent service depending on location. Customers should also be wary of any company that does not make important information like contract terms, cancellation policies, and pricing easily accessible.

    We have been with CSG for 15 years. The service has always been outstanding and all of the people I have dealt with always been knowledgeable, friendly and more than willing to help ((even with multi false alarms). There home service people have always been courteous and helpful.. Especially our service person, Adrian. He spends lots of time explaining all the little things the system can do ( to a computer dummy like me, that is a lot of explaining). Adrian is always patient and very helpful.

    My system was down, and I had to wait for almost 18days for a tech come to my house to repair it. Can you image > 2 weeks without monitoring with two little kids at home?

    Then I get a $135.30 bill for the repair/ service. I called the rep of the customer service and asked the detail of the bill. She told me the extended limited warranty did not cover any damage due to the weather. I told her I cannot find any content/any word about ” weather” in my contract. Her answer surprised me” the sale man told you this 3 years ago when you signed the contract, and you signed the contract ,which means you had known and understood it “.

    Actually, the only statement I can figure out in contract is ” we will repair or replace any warranted defective part or the system without charge to you……

    Beware!!!!!! This company will steal your money!! They will not allow you to cancel after your contract is up!! they automatically renew you for one more year!!!!!! Without notice!!!!!!! Terrible customer service! And management is a joke!!

    1,296.48 is what they took!!!! Don’t fall into the same trap I did!!

    I got the Alarm system installed through them in November 2015. During the initial installation, I was told by the sales guy that they are a nationwide company and that the will move the alarm system if I move for free of cost. I confirmed this as my job requires travel. I contacted them on June 6 for moving the alarm to my new location. What came next was a big surprise!

    I was told that they don’t provide service at my location and that i would have to cancel the contract and pay for contract cancellation. I told them that I want to keep their service but its not my fault that they cannot provide me the service.

    I also asked them why was I told that this a nation wide service and i can transfer it when I relocate. The lady had no answer and simply said that she was sorry for the wrong information given at the time sale.

    They also informed me that even if they had provided service at my new location, I would be responsible for paying the cost for transfer and installation at the new location.

    Well never again. Please keep away from them!

    Terrible company! Terrible customer service! With all the complaints they have against them 440 with the BBB you would think they wouldn’t want to lose another customer or have another negative review! I had the system put in a year ago, it was a mess from the beginning. I had to install and program my own cameras because the so called tech couldn’t figure them out, the system kept false alarming at all hours of the day and night and sensors went out within the first month. The cameras have been crap since day 1 and I have complained since day 1! All they have done is keep replacing them with the same crappy cameras! Hello! That’s not fixing the problem! I need them for night viewing which I told them when the system was installed and yet they still installed the cheap dollar store cameras. Only thing you can see at night is gray blurriness and good luck getting them to pick up motion. I had a tech come out today to address the system and cameras. He stated the only fix is to install a SVR which they want to charge me $300 dollars for! Really? It should have been installed from day one and now you want me to pay for it? I think not! I think you should fix the issue at no cost to me and make things right after a year. I called corporate and was flat out told no pay the price or cancel service and go elsewhere, my choice. So if that’s how they feel about their customers, doesn’t say much for the company!

    We have had a terrible experience with Central Security Group – stay away!! Over the past 7 years we’ve experienced numerous system outages. It takes forever to get a hold of customer service and when you do, nothing can be fixed over the phone and they have to send someone out for service which takes days to schedule. Their service is subcontracted and we’ve experienced multiple instances of them be rude, late or not showing up at all. On a recent service call the tech showed up after hours, refused to follow instructions on where I wanted our equipment moved, and then ignored me and talked on his cell phone in another language like he owned my house – I truly felt unsafe while he was here. On top of that, the tech’s personal car also left a huge oil spot in our driveway… When I called Central Security Group to let them know about the experience, they didn’t care that I felt unsafe, they just wanted to know if the job had been done. Recently, we were offered a better deal for service by another company, so we accepted and had new equipment installed. When we called to cancel service with Central Security Group, they informed us that they’ve been rolling us into 1 year, non-cancellable contracts and it would be $275 to break our current contract that ended 9 months from now. We figured after 7 years, there was no way we were still under any sort of a commitment, so were shocked to find that they had been rolling us from contract to contract without even a call or email to let us know. When we complained, they simply said it was in the contract we signed 7 years ago… I’m sure there is some clause in there that says what their doing is technically “legal” but that sure doesn’t make it right!

    Hey people,I think we need to try and get something done about this company.We had our alarm installed in 2009 .It worked great until we sold and moved.we had the system installed at our new location,then in 2014 we were going wireless with phone system.We paid 99.00 to install and 4.00 more each month.The system has not worked since then .They will not cancel contract even though they cannot make our system work.After reading other reviews I understand why they want because even after contract is up you still cannot get it canceled.I will not stop until something is done

    I Was robbed in dec. 2014 while on vacation. I lost about 3000.00 in the Robbery. The reason i was robbed because my alarm system was down. With Central Security there’s no problem with the monitoring. The problem is the service contract I had with them was very poor. From the time the system was installed i had faults. I had a service contract with them and their subcontractors gave me coninually bad service. No shows, long waits for service and 1 day after attempting to get my system on line it would go down again. The company maintains an adequate monitoring system but their service contractors are horrible.

    On October 1st I wrote a negative review on CGS over its contract policy. The following day, I was emailed by Mary, customer relationship manger, who expressed that the company has “made changes to their policy in support of our military customers” and that she would like to discuss this with me and provided her direct line. I called the number on October 5th (since it was after business hours and then the weekend by the time I saw the email) and left a message. She called back within a few hours and expressed that the company had heard its customer’s feedback on the subject and that it had taken action to change its policy. She followed up with letting me know that the paperwork has been put in place to terminate my contract and that I will not have to make any more payments. Additionally, when I return to the serviced address, the company would offer me a credit for the months I had paid after I moved out (7 months) if I would like to contract their service again. Though this was not the ideal way that any of us would had like for this to happen, I have to give credit to CSG for updating their policy and answering back to my review quickly and solving the issue in a timely matter. So, it is only fair that I would re-review the company based on my personal experience. I am glad to hear that the company has changed from a contract bound to a more customer friendly one which builds that customer loyalty that will earn them more on the long run.

    Overall the company does what it must do, alarm goes off, they call you to verify everyone is ok or not, if you don’t answer they call the police to check out your residence. However, they are not willing to work with you in situation out of your control where you may need to move due to work (military) or other similar circumstances. I was aware that if I moved I would just transfer the service to my new address. The problem came when Central Security Group did not provide service at my new residence. Their solution to the issue was to get the new home buyers to take over the contract (if you are selling) or have your tenets take over the contract (if you are renting). None of which is a real solution to me since I cannot get someone else to just commit to a security service contract. The other option of course is to terminate the contract and pay for the remaining service. What I find crazy is that I do plan on eventually move back into my old house(once work allows) and would had resumed the service with the company. I cannot understand how a company can be more concern with what they will make in current contract rather than the value of customer loyalty which could make them more money as they stick with the company they know and trust. Neatness to say I would never use their services ever again and do not recommend the company to anyone. Look at companies like SimpliSafe or LifeWatch and make sure you really read over the contract and ask any questions you may have before signing.

    Just received a call from an individual who wanted to address the problem I felt I had earlier and had reviewed through this site. I was pleased that someone from this company actually paid attention to my review and wanted to see how the problem could be resolved. This person was very pleasant and listened to all I had to say and I am happy to say he understood my issues with their customer service, promising to address my complaints so future customers wouldn’t be handled in the same manner. I am also satisfied with the conclusion of our conversation and appreciate his consideration of my complaint.

    What a rip-off company with a stupid staff of people working for them in customer service, billing, etc. I contacted this company in August, 2015 to get specific instructions and dates necessary to cancel my account after the end of our 3 year contract. I was told how to cancel and was told our contract final date was 10/31/15 and they had to have 30 day notice. OK – I gave them 90 day notice based on the CANCELLATION date given to me by THEIR customer service. Now I have received a notice to pay over $300.00 for a new year because my contract ended 9/30/15. They are going to accept the cancellation but because of THEIR employees inability to read I am expected to pay a 1 month charge since my letter stated 10/31/15. When I called, their customer service rep couldn’t even read their invoice correctly and stated that the $300. charge was a final bill for cancellation. This company is beyond belief. Be careful signing up with them — THEY MAY NEVER GO AWAY.

    My three years with Central Security Group I was provided with security services for my home in a professional manner. Upon moving, I had some issues with what appears to be an industry standard, auto-renew policy practices. The company and I were able to resolve and work through these, though this was very frustrating and time consuming process. This company would do well to re-evaluate how it bills its customers.

    I see that some have had unpleasant experiences with CSG (or perhaps a company that they have acquired) but I have to give them a rave review based on customer service. When I signed up, there was no misunderstanding. It was a term contract and mine was three years. I am fine with that if the service is good and it has been.
    I will say that being transferred as in military deployment would be a circumstance that should warrant consideration but if anyone has a chance of being transferred, they can move the service or should have considered the term of the contract before signing it.

    Not only does their contract set you up for automatic 1 year renewals they specifically deny military families the ability to cancel without penalty should they be transferred. They’re kind of like the ISIS of security companies.

    Much like the other negative reviews I cancelled my service after the term of the contract not knowing that when I registered for auto-pay that the contract would automatically renew for a new annual commitment. Just bad business!

    Fairly confident that once I cancelled they sold my information as I now get one (1) or more calls a week from security companies (mostly automated) which I never before received. Thankfully I have a new monitoring contract as this alleged practice puts people in danger.
