Pros

In addition to its home security features, Central Security Group provides a number of home automation devices (e.g. automated thermostats, door locks, lighting, and garage door openers) that are all accessible through CSG’s mobile app. CSG has even optimized its mobile app for the Apple Watch, so you can control your home and view your security camera footage anywhere.

Central Security Group provides a number of insurance incentives to help customers save money. Depending on your current insurer’s eligibility, you could save up to 20% on your monthly insurance premiums by having a security system installed in your home. CSG will also reimburse you up to $1,360 towards your insurance deductible if the home security system is unable to detect a theft on the premises (certain restrictions apply). Few companies truly make the effort to protect consumers in the event of a break-in.

Cons

Central Security Group is only available in 17 states throughout the southern region of the United States. One common customer complaint has to do with Central Security Groups confusing contract terms. Few customers are told that the contract automatically renews if they fail to cancel this renewal within 30 days of the original contract expiring. This means if customers wish to cancel their contract more than 30 days after its renewal, they will be required to pay 100% of the contract balance (roughly $480 for a 12-month renewal). There is also a bit of confusion as to the proper cancellation procedures. CSG requires customers to provide a written request for cancellation; simply calling customer service is not sufficient.

In addition to CSG’s confusing contract terms, the company ranks poorly in online transparency. For customers wanting information on pricing, exclusions, promotion details, and equipment provided, a simple site search is not enough; they will need to request a free quote. Customers should exercise caution when dealing with any home security company that does not make basic information like monthly monitoring fees upfront.

Our Recommendation

Central Security Group provides average home security and home automation services. Customers should be prepared to ask a lot of questions when contacting CSG before they find satisfactory information. Because Central Security Group operates through several different dealers throughout the southern United States, customers should be prepared for inconsistent service depending on location. Customers should also be wary of any company that does not make important information like contract terms, cancellation policies, and pricing easily accessible.

Be careful. There is not an “out ” in their contract. If you sell your house and do not need the system anymore, they make you continue paying for a year or however many months you have left on the contract. By not having an “out” in the contract they take your money from you and do not have one once of guilt.

This is a horrible company with no integrity. Security company but unsecurity at all.
They are ripped me off for $372.51 without any service !!! and continue to bill me even though they are fully aware that they do not monitor my alarm. After finished 3 years the contract
I already with other company just $16.99/ month without contract

When I tried to call to request the cancellation because I find out other company good deal then they offered the same rate but I told them it’s too late then they told me they needed the written letter and I emailed also faxed paper to request the cancellation after that they continue sending bill the reason I have had past the due to cancel also there is automatic renewal !!!

I’m wondering why this company is till exist and continue to has business practices that border on fraud.BEWARE!

This company is a rip off. They do not monitor well and all they do is draft your account. I have been with them since Dec. of 2010. My contract was for 3 years. I did not see that I have to give them 30 days notice to cancel before Dec. or my contract will automatically renew for another year. I called them today to cancel because I am dropping my land line. I have to send them a written letter, but they will keep billing me through Dec. of 2015. What a bad company policy. I can understand if they wanted some equipment back, but they did not install any. They used the equipment that the company before them had installed. All they did was sign me up and put a sign in the front yard. BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

I SIGNED A 3 YR CONTRACT December ,1 2009. December 12, 2014 I SOLD MY HOME. I FEEL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SADLY LACKING THAT AFTER FIVEYEARS OF PAYING ON A THREE YEAR CONTRACT NO CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO THIS FACT AND WAS OFFERED A “BUY-OUT” .OR TRANSFER OF THE SERVICE WHICH IS NOT POSSIBLE. I THINK AN AUTOMATIC RENEWAL OF A CONTRACT IS JUST A WAY OF GOUGING THE CUSTOMER AND DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS CUSTOMARY.

My experience has been similar to others. Had little issue with Central Security Group (long term customer) until I moved and had to cancel the service. I called Customer Service and asked them to cancel the service. They told me that my service had been cancelled. Later, much to my surprise, I continued to be invoiced. I have contacted the company a number of times since, and each time they say that the service is cancelled but that they have to continue to bill me for a number of months. The representative knows exactly where this is in the contract, so it must be a common complaint. I would never knowingly sign such a contract that would permit continued billing after cancellation, and it is clear that I have been misled.. Surely there is a law somewhere on the books to protect consumers from this type of behavior. It is not unlike the case of Steve Warshak that was featured on American Greed. An enterprising attorney or a representative of the DA’s office may find it worthwhile to closely watch Central Security Group.

A security company (Smith & Wesson) contractor updated my system and had me sign a contract for monitoring. Almost immediatly, we could not “set” the system. I called that contractor, twice to set up repair service. It appeared that a contact on one of the windows was not functioning properly. Service was set up, twice. But, the technician never showed up, twice. So, we have been paying the monthly monitoring fee for absolutely no monitoring. We decided (after years of this) that we needed to terminate our “service” (I laugh as I type that word). I had to call my bank to get the phone number of this company. OMG!! Worst experience EVER! I talked to one young lady who informed me that the contract renews automatically every year and that I have 10 months remaining on the contract and that I will have to pay for the remainder of the contract if I terminate. And, that I would have to inform them 30 in advance that I was terminating (what???? I am verbally informing them of it and paying a penalty for the pleasure of having had no service, at all, and she wants me to send them a letter informing that I am terminating???? this seems totally ludicrous). I told her that it was no worse paying for the remainder of the contract than paying for monitoring on a system that does not work. I told her it was all a waste of money. She offered to give me two month’s credit if I would allow them to service the system and keep the monitoring. REALLY???? Then she told me that they sent me a letter when they acquired the accounts of the previous monitoring company. I cannot say that I recall getting a letter regarding that. Then she transferrred me to another person to make arrangements to terminate my contract. That lady seemed to think that if they were crediting me for all the “service” I had paid for and that I was going to leave my serivice with them. I told her I had no faith in them. And, that I had already made my decision to change to another system and monitoring company. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice….. I told her that I am going with Comcast because I can always find them….I don’t have to call my bank to find out “who” is getting paid on automatic deduction from my checking account. I told her that we were replacing a smoke detector yesterday that we thought was inoperable. It wasn’t. I sounded an alarm and the phone started ringing. It was the monitoring folks. My husband kept saying “hello” and no one responded. Then we got another call from the same number and still there was no one on the line. Then someone called my cell number and all I could understand was that they were dispatching the fire department. I could not understand any of the numbers she left as the “call back” number. So, I hit “call back” on my cell phone so that I could respond to her request for a return call.. In the meantime, my husband had to go outside and explain to the firemen that we were changing out a “dead” smoke detector that wasn’t, and we did not have a fire. The told the second lady that I needed them to do whatever they needed to do to disconnect the smoke detector from “monitoring” so we could replace it. She transferred me to still yet, another lady who said she didn’t have a copy of my original contract so she wasn’t sure about the renewal date. I told her to put the process in motioin for disconnection of the monitoring of the smoke detector and I would try to locate my copy of the contract, later today. She asked for my cell number so she could “follow up” with me. I am totally exhausted and frustrated. What part of “NO, I am finished with you” does she not understand. Stay away from these people. This has been a horrible experience.

I bought the equipment and paid an installer. Been with them over 5 years and they claim I have some auto-extension on my contract?
These folks are worse than the people I am trying to protect myself from with an alarm system.
I should have been more diligent, yes. They should be way less predatory. There is such a thing as ‘good will’ and fairness and these folks have neither.
Found a company that offers monitoring month to month without a contract.

Read the italicized fine print (crooked fine print). You have 1 year automatic renewel (sure, you will remember that after 3 year contract is about to be up). I should have paid more attention to the vein of the contract – they setup it up to suck you in for needless additional charges.

The contract definition itself is enough to make you aware to stay away. If you think that type of setup of legit, then I would say go with them. Once you are in though, they are rabid dogs (beware).

I have had this system since Nov ’08. Alarm 2000 of San Diego provided the equipment and installed the system. NO complaints with Alarm 2000 at all. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, too! The only complaint I have had with CSG is that every time I call to cancel a panic alarm, they put me on hold FIRST! I mention it to them EVERY TIME!! When the police come out because it wasn’t canceled, my city bills me. They tell me it is their process.

I called the other day. Press ONE to cancel an alarm; 2 for … I was not calling for an emergency so I pressed the appropriate number. I wanted to ask if I could cancel because I have not even activated my system for months – they can verify by looking at their records. She refused to entertain my request because I have an active contract. I asked about lowering my rates. She said when my contract expires August, 2015, I can ask again. No thanks; I’ll be changing companies…unless someone calls and makes it worth my while – which really I don’t expect.

I asked to be transferred to a tech because I wanted to ask about adding a smoke alarm. When I was finally transferred, the person kept saying I had to buy their alarm because not all smoke alarms are compatible with their system. Guess what: he was NOT a tech. He was a sales person! My second question was about my accessing the system over the internet or with my cell phone. I had to explain HOW I was going to do it. That’s when I realized he was sales and not tech support. I BIG waste of my time.

I don’t expect to be put on hold and then told “This call may be monitored…” If I call to cancel an alarm, I WANT TO CANCEL IT NOW!

August 2015 cannot come fast enough… Glad I found this web page!!

I had this company for 3 1/2 years only to check on the contract which expired back in Jan. Wouldn’t you think they would call you and let you know at the expiration date how was your service and we are ready to extend you as a future client. No, they have never contacted me but when i called and ask to be canceled they told me to fax a notice to them of which I did. Oops they failed to tell me once the contract is up there is an automatic renewal date. One year! So what do they do they cancel my request for security but they continue to charge me up until Jan 2015. Are you kidding me. So I told them well why would I cancel service if I have to pay til Jan and she said because that is your request. lol Now I have to fax another letter to reinstate my security until Jan 2015. Please read and understand all contract small print. Plan on remembering that for 3 years!! lol If you don’t you will be in a nightmare and thats where we are today. Just compare all companies before you sign with these guys. For the guy who said they have an A rating with BBB. The reason they do is because the small print allows them to be right and in their world silence is golden until YOU call them.

We have had this service since Jan 2012 and never had any problems until last night when lighting struck near my house. It malfunctioned our alarm system and we have to pay $89 for someone to come fix it. Also because they want to upgrade our system they want to charge an additional $99. We only have 5 months left on our contract so we threatened to just cancel and they said they will waive our fees if we sign a new contract. After doing research on other companies they all seem to have flaws. Not sure which way to go.

My wife and I used CSG for our security for our home in Apopka, FL for several years. Over that time we had minor issues but their local support guy was very good and so we did not cancel after the first contract expired thinking that we could cancel any time we wanted. NOT THE CASE! As a result after our move they are making us pay for an additional 11 months after we have moved to North Carolina. I sent a letter over a month ago that they said they never received and will stop monitoring but we still have to pay for the service.

Their account maintenance people are obnoxious and unwilling to work with us at all. As a result I would advise anyone to NOT use CSG for their monitoring services. I checked their ratings and most everyone agrees that they are not a good company to deal with.

6 months to go on a 3 year contract and the alarm is going off randomly ….. there is no consistency of when the alarm “error 103 communication” error goes off. This has been going on for 3 months now. After being on the phone with a technician for approximately an hour only to discover there is no possible solution other than taking the system off the wall. Their explanation is the government is changing to a 4G communication system. First I was told to pay $100 for the equipment upgrade and they would install for free. So I made an appointment with the Customer Service Representative for an installer to come out, but installer did not show up or call. Then I started getting calls from Daniel who informed me it was going to cost $300 to change out the system. The next person I talked to wanted $99 and but now I was required to sign another 3 year contract with this company. HA! All the while no concern for my health… being waken from a dead sleep, not knowing if someone is crawling through a window or what is going on. Only to find out it is the error message alarm. Causing me to jump out of bed with heart racing then try to go back to sleep. Apparently my schedule is of no concern. Again this has been going on for 3 months. They just want money. Not customer friendly. Had I gone with the other company, it would have been cheaper in the long run and probably more reliable.I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I have a CSG system in my house and have for many years. They do have a BB rating of ‘A’ and have always responded quickly to my alarms.

What a great company! I recently set my alarm off by accident and they called me before I could even disarm it! I’ve always found their customer service people kind, patient (even when I don’t understand my bill-many times) and have the right information. Had their system for 5 years now and refer all my frinds to them. They are all happy too…

This company SUCKS! They have been charging me for 2 years and apparently they weren’t even really monitoring my alarm system. It went off the other day while I wasn’t home and they never sent the cops. So when I show up I called to ask why no one was sent out. They checked and my alarm wasn’t communicating with their system. So the lady checked and the last signal they had received from my system was 2 years previously. I asked why they didn’t call to tell me and she said I am sure we did. I told her I never received a call or I would have done something about it. She checked her records and they had not called me. So I have paid 2 years for nothing. They have no intention of fixing my system or reimbursing me or anything.

My phone screen showed “Armed Away” when I left the driveway. When I returned, I found the kitchen window smashed out and more than $20K of my possessions gone.

When I called, I was put on hold in total for over an hour and told that I must not have set the alarm. They sent a tech to check the system. Imagine my surprise when he showed up (5 hours after I was told he would) and he had CLEARLY been drinking.

Since he worked on the system, I’ve noticed the back door is no longer armed and I have not been able to fix that.My calls are no longer answered.
