  • Bundling Options: Cox customers can either bundle with an existing Cox subscription, or customize to meet your specific home security needs. In terms of protection, Cox Homelife offers a number of devices, including 24/7 monitoring, flood and carbon monoxide monitoring, smoke and heat detection, and both a battery and cellular network backup.
  • Technology: Users can access their Cox home security system through the interactive touchscreen, online, or through Cox Homelife’s mobile app. There, they can gain access to live and recorded video monitoring, receive text or email alerts, and even control security and energy features in their home, such as lights, small appliances, doors, and the thermostat.
  • Restrictions: Cox Homelife’s terms and conditions list a number of requirements customers must meet before they can sign up for a home security system. Most notably among these requirements is that Cox Homelife is only available to individuals with a current or new Cox phone, video, or internet subscription.
  • Fees: Cox Homelife customers are required to purchase their touchscreen (not included in the starter kit). The Cox touchscreen comes with an additional $3.00 monthly fee. In addition to the touchscreen fee, customers may be required to pay up to $99.00 upfront before their security system can be installed. Access to recorded video monitoring requires an additional monthly fee.
  • Common Complaints: Customers have reported several service complaints against Cox Homelife. These complaints include unhelpful customer service representatives, and extended periods before Cox will respond to questions or issues. Some customers have reported issues with the required touchscreen device, and failure on the part of Cox to resolve these issues in a timely manner.
  • Our Recommendation: Since there are restrictions and numerous customer complaints regarding the Cox Homelife service, we recommend going with a reputable company like Protect America and Frontpoint.

Cox Homelife is the worst company I have every dealt with in my entire life. I have spent over 20 hours talking to I don't even know how many customer service reps. Each customer service rep says that the previous rep entered things wrong and then they end up making it worse. They installed an alarm system that never worked since day one. The came out 4 times and even the supervisor put in the notes system not able to work in home due to thick walls. Then they not only still charge me for the alarm and equipment but also for over $1k in cameras that never even left their truck! I haven't done a review on anything in many many years but this company is absolutely insane. I would not have my worst enemy deal with them (or maybe I would). Now it shows my service for internet and phone is being disconnected due to non payment because I won't pay almost $2k for services plus they want me to pay cancellation fees for services I DO NOT HAVE!! Whatever you do, DO NOT USE COX HOMELIFE!Read More

Cox Homelife is a disaster from top to bottom. Glitches with the app, glitches with the hardware at the door, glitches with the firmware, and updates that require the owner to disconnect their door and reset and reassemble. Hard to do with you are in another country or travelling. But the worst of all is the customer service by the supervisors. I have been fighting for two months to get the refund that I am entitled to since their contract states that if the issue is not resolved after 4 visits then a full refund will be granted. Two months of calling and receiving a run around. Then yesterday I discovered that a supervisor by the name of Johnathan disconnected my Cox Homelife without telling me meaning that my home now is not covered for smoke, fire or burglar alarms. How can they call themselves a home security service and do such a thing? What if I didn't notice and something happened at my home while I was away? So I called and demanded an explanation only to be told that Johnathan would be "reaching out" to me immediately with an explanation for his actions as well as where we presently stand in our contract. I have received no phone call. DO NOT BELIEVE THE COX COMMERCIALS. Their coverage will not provide you with that ease of security that the commercial promises. The shocking thing is that this isn't new with Cox. As I read through the negative reviews they are endless with the same stories being repeated year after year after year. Save your money and get a security system elsewhere.Read More

Customer service is terrible. We moved and went without all services including home security for over a month! because they couldn’t get their departments on the same page to get our installation at our new home set up correctly. I then being fed up with the terrible customer service and poor handling of our move canceled all of our services causing us to be billed in full for our entire service contract plus installation that was never properly done at our new home. I will never use Cox again!

Touch panel locked up. No big deal right? WRONG! device was unable to communicate with Cox leaving us vulnerable were this an actual threatening situation. Tech support walked through removing battery to reset it. Manager a week later says it’s a rare even, should never happen again, will look into it and get back to me. I call in 10 days later, another manager assures me it will never happen again. (really, how?). When I say I expect more out of a security company I am placing the safety of my family in, she is stymied. I mention I should at least get a couple free months of monitoring, she is agitated. I am just suggesting what Good customer service COULD look like. If it happens again, they will be collecting their equipment. Today, my phone says touch display cellular not working. I run diags on it, and it says Ethernet has trouble. I wrote them a message under contact us so I don’t go volatile on the poor person answering the phone. We will see how they handle it….

Decided to change our TV provider back to COX. Was told it would be 3-5 days which I was very happy about. When it is all said and done. Over 2 weeks. Either they need to instruct their CSA to tell the truth of they need to find someone to work so they can deliver in a timely manner. Very poor customer service.

We have installed the front door lock and alarm system for the house. We had to change the passcode on the front door lock. I’ve called them and explained the situation. Neither the representative nor manager didn’t show any interest in helping us to fix the problem. We had to take the lock apart by ourselves which was the only way out or pay$50 for the guy from cox to come out . and do it. They didn’t leave an Allen wrench or tv explanation how to change the code in case we need it. Very poor customer service! They were very unprofessional. If I knew that before I’ve purchased their services I’d never go with them. All they care about is money not the clients.

We are moving out of state to a service area not covered by COX. We referred the new home owners to the service and are giving all of our paid for equipment to them. COX refused to waive the early termination fee despite our good faith efforts to get them a new customer. Most services plans allow you to transition to a new area without fees or waive the early termination if your area is not serviced OR allow a new owner to take over the service plan. I am very disappointed and I would not recommend this plan. Be sure you read the fine print on the contract.

Cox didn’t set up our WiFi correctly when we moved into our new home and I had no clue until my cell phone bill came in. I went over my data and it cost me $200! So when cox finally sent someone over here to fix the problem they guy quickly fixed it and said whoever came the first time didn’t do his job correctly and cox refuses to give me any kind of credit at all.

While out of town last week a wind storm came thru the area and jarred one of the windows causing the alarm to go off and notify me. I called the number given me by the text and after 20 minutes of being shifted around, they STILL could not find the correct dept or person to speak with. I just read some reviews and see I am not alone AND Cox is ranked 37th when being compared with other home security companies.

    Update:

Customer service is worst in country. While away an alarm sounded because of window issue and requested they silence the alarm until I could get friend to repair problem and NO ONE knew whether that could be done or not. It took 20 minutes and 4-5 different transfers only to find out they did not have an answer. Asked them to disconnect all their equipment and all they told was that it was not their responsibility. Still trying to resolve issue.

Unimpressed with another COX product service. This homelife security system–it is the worst I have ever owned (had 3 systems). Have security and thermostat control–but cannot control them from my cell phone or my computer. Set the thermostat to my desired temperature, closed the doors and armed the system. Left on vacation, 2 hours into the vacation thought I would check up on the system to see how it is working–one indicator showed a door open–but no alarm. Realized I couldn’t disarm my system from my phone. Called my son to travel 40 miles to check up on our house. He checked and everything was closed up. He rearmed the system and left. Door showed closed on my phone. The next night at 24 hours later an email comes from COX, states my alarm has been activated, then the call comes. I look at my phone and see the alarm has been activated and the zones affected. The called my neighbor, he checked and said everything is closed up. Son comes back the next day and nothing out of place. COX rearmed my system since I could not do it on my phone. 2 days traveling and 2 occurrences–peace of mind (NONE). Talked with tech support, they said my broadband is down–we find that strange because I can see information on both my computer and phone about the system but I can’t control it. Owned the system less than 30 days and works like crap–can’t interact with the system, can’t control it and have had false alarms. System is made of cheap parts, tech support is weak, sales only know the company line. RUN FROM THIS PRODUCT AND SERVICE.

Cox Home Life is the biggest joke out there. I only wished I read the previous reviews prior to having them install the system. I have had and been very happy with Cox since I was 20 years old (I’m now 35) but ever since they installed the system there have been issues. I’ve tried to talk to customer service and their management but all I get is the run around. They either want to “possibly” charge me for a tech to come out ($50) or I can cancel which is almost $1000. Decisions decisions what am I to do. By the way they have been out 3 times in 6 months and will probably have to keep coming out until the contract is up. Buyer beware!!!! It’s worthless UNLESS you’re into calling and yelling at the cable company every couple of months.

We had Cox for a while, and as soon as a different company offered us a better deal we decided to make the switch. That same day in front sales manager from the new company asked me to call cox to find out if there was a cancellation fee or if we were under a contract, so we did and we were told over the phone that we were on a month to month payment and that no contract was in place although we were told that we need it to return the equipment back to cox. so now we are a month after we told them that we wanted to cancel and we are getting harassment calls telling us we owe them money. we have tried over and over again to cancel our service not only does cox continue to transfer us to about 20 different people to make the “final transaction” but we have been told a cancelation expert by the name of “Alex” was going to call us to let us know if we had to pay anything. well its been a month and nothing. If i were you i would run far away from this service. I am contemplating on making an official claim with the BBB and going to the state attorney general because this is a bunch of crap Cox is trying to feed us.

Don’t bother with the Cox Security Cameras. For the past 6 months, they will only upload 25 files per day. I have to go online and clear my cameras 2 to 3 times per day which is a real hassle. I’ve tried calling a couple of times about this problem, but they won’t budge. I tried to get out of my contract when this first occured and they wanted $680 to cancel even though I had been with them already for over a year and had an allowance of 50 files previously. Very frustrated and unhappy with them. I will change as soon as I can!

We decided to bundle our services with Cox after having been reasonably pleased with their Internet and TV service. We were shocked! The installation of the security wrecked the TV service and threw my VOIP business phone offline. The first power fialure we had in our town — the battery backup failed and the system failed! The very time you would want a security system. The incident damaged the batteries so completely, they have never worked properly again. We’re currently trying to cancel and dealing with the least helpful female on earth whose job is clearly to see that no one exercises the satisfaction guarantee. Buyer BEWARE!

I accidentally set the alarm off; but when I try to cancel it, it did not work. So, it was going off for about 30 minutes, and nobody from Cox called to check or anything. I called them and I was transferred more than three times and every operator asked for my account info. After many transfers, I got to the tech support on how to silence the system, but then it got disconnected. So, my wife called again; then finally, it stopped. We also told them it’s a false alarm, they asked for the secret code, and said ok. After 10 minutes, the cops arrived. I was with ADT prior to Cox and every time I accidentally set the alarm off, they call right away. With cox, they don’t…maybe some times they do but not all the time. So after our contract, we’ll move back to ADT. Or we’ll even try to get out of our contract sighting this last incident.

I have had Cox cable, internet and home phone for many years. I decided when choosing a new security monitoring service to go with Cox Security. However, it does not seem to be a part of the Cox Communications. I can call the number I know by heart to discuss cable, phone and internet, buy not security. It is difficult for you to find the number to call concerning Cox Security. I work long hours and need to deal with billing and questions later in the evenings. This is not an issue with telephone, internet or cable, but security closes at 8pm. The Security division seems to be a third party that does not have professionalism, website presence and customer service as the Cox Communication company that I have done business with in the past. If I had known what I know now I would have gone with a different security monitoring company.

I think Cox does a pretty good job once the system is in. Web/phone Viewing is seamless and I have no problems. The reason I give a 4 is that they say they don’t have a solution to put the cameras on a motion detector outside. add them and I will put it up to an 8-10

Not ready for prime time!!! I have been a long time customer of Cox in the Las Vegas, NV area. I suffered through the early years of their entry into the ISP market in Las Vegas where you had to literally wait for hours for tech support because your system went down. The only time you could reliably reach them was in the early morning hours and even then you had to wait for an hour or more. My entire experience so far with Cox Security reminds me of those early years. The tech support has been pretty responsive but the initial sales, install and follow-up have been atrocious. The sales man did not disclose the total costs and they have been slightly greater than I expected based upon the contract. I have not received a stable bill yet, so that may work itself out. The install was done by a less than knowledgeable technician and I had to make at least three subsequent service calls to get the problems rectified. Even after the last service call, the supervisor technician left the cable modem in a non-responsive state that I had to correct. My bill is still suspect. I inquired about the taxes and the service center rep could not tell me what the taxes were based on. She eventually hung up on me. On reviewing my charges to the equipment, it appears I was charged for an outdoor camera when an indoor when was installed. The system itself seems to be functioning well. Have been able to arm/disarm both locally and on smart phones without any problems. My wife mistakenly set off the alarm and was unable to disarm in time, but was called and able to give the proper responses to avoid a call-out, even after mistakenly hitting the medical alert button. My son recently installed FrontPoint and it appears that is a much better system and less expensive. I do however, like the redundancy built into the Cox system that uses both Wi-fi and wireless-feel it gives a much better level of protection.

The service was good but I have to relocate out of the service area for work and Cox waived my termination fee for the cable, telephone and internet but stated they could not waive the home security termination fee based on the contract agreement? Wow, no consistency with this company whatsoever. First of all, I wouldn’t even be cancelling the service if I didn’t have too. I guess it’s my fault they don’t service my new area? On top of that, I can’t even use the equipment any longer and they don’t want it back. What am I supposed to do with it? Throw it away and still have to pay $300. Extremely unreasonable for a company that claims to be so customer friendly on the commercials they air every 5 minutes. I’m filing a better business bureau complaint and a grievance with the corporate office. I’d recommend going with another company if you can, the headache is not worth it.

I’ve had this system for 5 days. It has been down for two and when I called today they told me it would be two days before they could come out. That means it will be down for four days out of 7 in the first week. What’s the point? And I paid over $700 for the equipment, not counting the monthly fee.

I’ve had cox home security almost a year and the service went down at least 10 times a day during first 7 months I called and was basically told unless I want to pay a large amount of money to buy out my 3 year contract there’s nothing they can do. A fee mths later I was out of town and wasn’t able to arm my home. I call and was told there’s nothing g they can do unless someone was at the home. They suggested I needed a new modem so when I returned I home I bought a 90 dollar modem from cox and things were going ok UNTIL 4th of july and I was headed out of time with my family for the weekend. Once again error can’t set alarm tried for about an hour while driving and headed towards sedona. Still error can’t arm! Called cox and was told nothing they could do unless someone was at home again! The fact that alot of people knew we were out of down I could not enjoy my holiday without turning around driving home to have the problem figured out! It took basically 3 hours out of my time and my holiday to deal with this issue! Let’s say I was extremely pissed and the customer service rep said there wasn’t any managers in office to give me a credit or even help me out of my Contract. I was told a manager would call me on Monday and get a mim of 25.00 credit for my troubles and hopefully out of my contract! No credit no phone call!! I’m very unhappy with cox and wish I would have went with att or adt…
