Pros

CPI ‘No False Alarm Guarantee’

A common complaint from home security customers is false alarms. To ensure customers don’t worry about that, CPI has a “No False Alarm Guarantee” that promises a credit to the customer’s account if they receive a fine from the local police department for false alarms. So while the company does not guarantee that no false alarms will go off, they do promise you won’t pay for them. In most cases, false alarms are the result of faulty equipment or installation.

Positive CPI Security Reviews

In 2019, most of the reviews for CPI Security have been positive experiences shared by new customers. The most common praise is the company’s customer service. Reviewers describe their experience with the company as friendly, polite, a great experience, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Video Verification

CPI Security’s home security system video verification is actually quite impressive. According to the CPI Security website, “an alarm event triggers your security cameras to start recording and notifies CPI’s award-winning Central Station.” This recorded video verification allows customers to know there is a real threat, like burglars, or if its nothing to worry about.

Security Systems for Businesses

CPI Security is available for businesses in licensed states. The company specifically caters to retail stores, restaurants, medical offices, and industrial warehouses.

Cons

Undisclosed Fees and Transparency Issues

Although CPI Security Systems boasts free installation, this promise comes with several conditions. For example, the cost of a CPI security system can be extremely high if you don’t own your home, as CPI Security attaches a hefty $299 installation fee for renters. All customers, whether they rent or own, may also be required to pay additional installation fees for second-story security cameras. And though the website says customers can receive up to $2,200 in free equipment, customers are required to purchase upfront a minimum of $99 in monitoring equipment.

Unlike other security companies, CPI Security does not clearly state the details of opening an account or service agreement. Actual monthly rates and contract lengths can vary greatly depending on the customer’s credit rating, and the CPI website yields little information for customers to reference. They do say that their monitoring rates start out at $29.99 per month. We can assume that is for their most basic package – “inTouch Essentials”. In order to receive an accurate quote, customers must first receive credit approval.

Negative Reviews of CPI Security

About half of the CPI Security reviews on Best Home Security Companys are complaints. The most common theme amoung these complaints are as follows:

  • People were unable to get out of their long, 5-year contract with the company. Reviewers warn people to read the entire contract before signing.
  • Not able to get a hold of customer service.
  • Out-dated and fault systems

Limited Availability

CPI Security Systems is only available in the southern region of the United States. They are predominantly in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, but do have licenses to operate in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Mississippi, and Arkansas as well. Those interested in CPI Security systems need to make sure they check the company’s state availability before contacting the company.

Our Recommendation

Despite the initial offerings CPI promises and reactions from consumers, CPI Security has hidden fees, high upfront costs, and long contracts. We encourage you to look for less expensive, higher rated home security systems. View our top-rated home security systems.

CPI Security Packages and Equipment Details

Almost next to impossible to cancel. My contract was up so I wanted to go to just monitoring and was told price was the same. Got a great offer with Ackerman so decided to cancel CPI all together. Called CPI and was told everyone was busy and they would call back. Never happened. Called the next day to cancel, again. This time was told a technician would have to come to my house to remove a recording device…ok. Set up an appointment and the technician never showed…why…nothing to remove. Just trying to make it hard for me to cancel. Long story short put a block on my bank account…now I’m cancelled. Really did it have to be that way? Stay away from CPI.

Overall, I love the service. We’ve had billing issues since day one. We’ve made several attempts to set up auto-draft, but their billing office has had “issues” with each, with no explanation to why. We recently tried to update our thermostat and received conflicting information from 2 different Service Techs. Until we get a straight answer from management, we’re stuck with no thermostat.

I have had CPI for almost 10 years. I had 2 businesses with them. After one moved they combined services. However they doubled the cost. Fine, I “hadn’t done the full contract”. However I called today to check and still have 4 years on the contract. So not only did they double the cost when combined they doubled the length of time. So they have been ripping me off for 4 years. Customer service is no help. They can’t understand why that is wrong and illegal. May have to get an attorney for this one. STAY AWAY

Get everything when you sign on with a promotion. Add ons are HIGH! They have a doorbell with an intercom that I really need. $200 + plus add on monthly fee. I don’t think I care about keeping people. It’s a numbers game. I have been satisfied with the customer service and all the people are nice.

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH CPI SECURITY SYSTEM! FIRST, THEY HAVE THE ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY ARE EXTREMELY RUDE AND ARE ALWAYS PUTTING THINGS OFF ON POLICE FAILURE. I had a situation where when I was out of town, my cleaning crew set off the alarm. They stayed around, assuming the police would show. An hour later they finish cleaning, but no one shows. I call CPI, they tell me it is an issue with the police, not them. I call the police, per the official police report someone from CPI reported THAT THE PERSON IN MY HOME APPEARED TO BE KNOWN AND NO FOLLOW UP WAS NEEDED. I call CPI and they are ridiculously rude, essentially saying they don’t care if I’m unhappy, if I would like to cancel I can pay over a grand to get out of my contract. I really wish I read other reviews before signing up. Rest assured if you get CPI and have a break in, you should call the police yourself.

We were told it was a 2 year contract. My wife signed it and then months later we were told it was a 5 year contract. Customer services is a joke. When you call them it is obvious that you are bothering them. Go with anyone else but this company. All the great reviews must be the employees writing in.

No urgency in responding to your concerns. The camera in my house stopped working and they wanted to wait for 4 days before they could send a technician to the house. BUT, they were more than happy to charge an extra $75 to have someone come to the house on the same day to assess the problem. What then am I paying CPI every month to do?

Most unfriendly customer service I’ve ever dealt with when asking about upgrades. Cost for additional service is outrageous and highway robbery. As soon as we are out of the ridiculous long contract we will get a different service. Do not get CPI for home security.

Calling this company was huge mistake. After repeatedly asking their sales team to no longer contact me I received numerous calls. The sales people were always rude when I told them I wasn’t interested and would go on a 5 minute tirade about how I needed to use CPI Security. The last CS rep that called me was named Jason. He was a complete jerk and told me I was an idiot for not going with CPI. He then proceeded to tell me off for being frustrated that people keep calling me. Why would I even consider a company that harasses me to sign up and then is rude and mean when I decide not to go with them? If this is how their sales team acts towards customers they are trying to sign up I can only imagine how poorly their customer service acts when you have a problem.

I have had CPI Security for over 4 years after becoming a widow. Great monitor but when I moved to another city and we already had another security system I was told that i had
18 months contract left and was penalyzed almost $700.00. Sales tactics are misleading BEWARE. I Never missed a timely payment and this is how good customers are treated. I would never use them again because bottom line it is about their bottom $$ line and not about customer service.

Most horrendous security provider I have ever seen. I requested a service call with a video installation which took over a month. When technician arrived my glass breaks did not work, my smoke detectors did not work, my keypad in remote room did not work, video did not work, lamp modules did not work, etc…. I have all this written down by technician and quality control individual. Continuously tried calling CPI customer service no supervisors were available but they would call me back. Now Kelly who is the supposed manager is out and she is the only one that can help. My main keypad does not work and was left in a programming mode when Quality Control person left. You had better check out your CPI security systems on a regular/daily basis it may not be working. Thank goodness the technician wrote everything down. GO with anyone but CPI!!!When I said I was the customer and they provided a service could I please get some service from Customer Relations I was told I had to wait. My system is and has been offline. They are supposed to be checking the videos, forget it. They do not. This is a breach of contract I understand why they have a 1.9 rating with customer reviews. Please do not get caught at their mercy which is what they want you to think!!! Call CPI everyone of you and have your system checked out!! Thank goodness for 2 big dogs. If u want customer service go elsewhere. DO NOT TRUST CPI FOR ANYTHING!!!

It must be something for me to go ahead and write a review. Well CPI you can compare to company that sells vacuum cleaners. All grate till it come to price. They will run Hard report on you credit. After that they will say ohh no you have to pay out of pocket 450$ when initially We agreed on 199$ because something went wrong. This is lie. I have a good credit. Thanks to them my score dropped. I will not recommend you to trust that company. They lie from the beginning

Horrible company! They do not care about your home security, only making a sale! The guy I spoke with Stuart, only wanted to close the deal, he did not respect my wishes to shop around. I ended up paying for the equipment and setting up a assessment. After calling around I decided to cancel the assessment and go with a different company. I called Stuart back to cancel and request a refund. He cancelled the assessment, but never processed the refund. I called back after the 10 days when the money was not refunded and found out that Stuart did not process the refund! Horrible customer service! I would never consider them again nor would I refer anyone to them!

CPI made promisses it never intended to keep. They offered us 3 months free after they screwed up the initial install. It took us an act of congress to get those 3 free months.

On the first install attempt, the technician was rude and ‘thug-like.’ We had to ask him to leave. While on the porch he was called by his supervisor. His words – “I ‘cain’t’ deal with these white crackers.” He then punched the door and yelled, “You gonna’ need a’ alarm, a**hole!” Police were notified. Report taken.

Customer service is terrible! If you cancel your service even after 12 yrs of being with them they treat you like you’ve done something wrong. Sent a service tech to my house to retreive a “chip”??? and while he was her managed to destroy a system i paid for 12 yrs leaving a hole in my wall ! I’ve checked around and this was not done to others when they cancelled. I’m not done with them!

Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE customer service. We’ve had a “dysfunctional” system since we installed CPI, and coincidentally, with a 2 year agreement; which CAN’T end SOON ENOUGH. We called on Sunday (1/10/16) to report a system error — received a call back on MONDAY, with a PROMISED “expedited service call” — TUESDAY morning (1/12/16), and the system is STILL not working. Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE customer service…!!!!!!!

Poor customer service scheduled at 10:30am for an appointment at 4:30 for a new construction home. They didn’t call me let me know they couldn’t make the appointment I call at 4:00 to tell them the lot number of my house to them to only say “our sales rep won’t be able to make the appointment” I was imformed that if I didn’t receive a call at 2 pm the appointment was still good. As I pull to the neighborhood they said they couldn’t make it. I would not recommend this company to any one because of their unprofessional manner.
