Pros

CPI ‘No False Alarm Guarantee’

A common complaint from home security customers is false alarms. To ensure customers don’t worry about that, CPI has a “No False Alarm Guarantee” that promises a credit to the customer’s account if they receive a fine from the local police department for false alarms. So while the company does not guarantee that no false alarms will go off, they do promise you won’t pay for them. In most cases, false alarms are the result of faulty equipment or installation.

Positive CPI Security Reviews

In 2019, most of the reviews for CPI Security have been positive experiences shared by new customers. The most common praise is the company’s customer service. Reviewers describe their experience with the company as friendly, polite, a great experience, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Video Verification

CPI Security’s home security system video verification is actually quite impressive. According to the CPI Security website, “an alarm event triggers your security cameras to start recording and notifies CPI’s award-winning Central Station.” This recorded video verification allows customers to know there is a real threat, like burglars, or if its nothing to worry about.

Security Systems for Businesses

CPI Security is available for businesses in licensed states. The company specifically caters to retail stores, restaurants, medical offices, and industrial warehouses.

Cons

Undisclosed Fees and Transparency Issues

Although CPI Security Systems boasts free installation, this promise comes with several conditions. For example, the cost of a CPI security system can be extremely high if you don’t own your home, as CPI Security attaches a hefty $299 installation fee for renters. All customers, whether they rent or own, may also be required to pay additional installation fees for second-story security cameras. And though the website says customers can receive up to $2,200 in free equipment, customers are required to purchase upfront a minimum of $99 in monitoring equipment.

Unlike other security companies, CPI Security does not clearly state the details of opening an account or service agreement. Actual monthly rates and contract lengths can vary greatly depending on the customer’s credit rating, and the CPI website yields little information for customers to reference. They do say that their monitoring rates start out at $29.99 per month. We can assume that is for their most basic package – “inTouch Essentials”. In order to receive an accurate quote, customers must first receive credit approval.

Negative Reviews of CPI Security

About half of the CPI Security reviews on Best Home Security Companys are complaints. The most common theme amoung these complaints are as follows:

  • People were unable to get out of their long, 5-year contract with the company. Reviewers warn people to read the entire contract before signing.
  • Not able to get a hold of customer service.
  • Out-dated and fault systems

Limited Availability

CPI Security Systems is only available in the southern region of the United States. They are predominantly in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, but do have licenses to operate in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Mississippi, and Arkansas as well. Those interested in CPI Security systems need to make sure they check the company’s state availability before contacting the company.

Our Recommendation

Despite the initial offerings CPI promises and reactions from consumers, CPI Security has hidden fees, high upfront costs, and long contracts. We encourage you to look for less expensive, higher rated home security systems. View our top-rated home security systems.

CPI Security Packages and Equipment Details

BUYER BEWARE! Sales said they could install outdoor camera with package and the installer said “nope that won’t work.” They said their tri beam motion detector would not pick up a small dog. Guess what, it does. Three false alarms later, we had a kitchen fire. Their system never went off and they never called. Twice now they were to come take the system out. They have yet to show up. DON’T USE THIS COMPANY BECAUSE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

This site explains CPI better than the contract. I regret I did not research this company before initiating service. Now I am stuck paying for a service I can not use because CPI will not cancel the charges after I sold the home and moved due to my job. Customer service is not of assistance at all. I do not recommend using this company for home security services, please if your reading this, research others, try local services instead of large companies. CPI does not value customers, as long as the company has a financial gain that is all that matters. The service is not the best, this is also not concerning to them either. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY for any reason.

We had a great, knowledgeable tech for our install. Talk with us prior to reviwing our home, ask what we would like to have, explained options and cost then did a walk thru showing us where he would like to install detectors and why. My wife and I decieded what we wanted and where. He was very courtious did a very nice job and insured he had cleaned all areas where he was working. He explained operating procedures to us and went thru them until we were comfortable. I made a mistake by opening a window while the alarm was on and a rep was checking immeditaley. Very Pleased with this system so far! Go for the specials when they offer them and you can bargain. We had a sales person by phone and they were very nice, no sales pitches and very up front on what they offered and the terms. The sales person called after the install to insure we were satisfied. We have to say our experience with CPI has been excellent to date! We live 20 miles east of Raleigh and we had great service.

read the contract, don’t believe what the sales person tell you. it’s going to be a matter of time before they go out of business if they continue lock people in for 5 years with no option to cancel. even if you move to an area they don’t service, you won’t be able to cancel it. CPI management, the world is changing, the customer require more flexibility. listen to them, or go out of business

I only wish I had read all the reviews below before signing on with CPI – this company is by far the WORST EVER! They rip you off at every chance they get – telling you anything to sign a contract. I moved and while the new owners were to take over, they refused after I had moved out, also refusing to allow CPI to remove the equipment. I have contacted CPI numerous times with over 20 minutes of holding. I finally get someone who tells me not to worry “you’re a valued customer” and that I would not have to pay the default charges. Of course, 3 months later I get an invoice for $1400 and several calls from them saying that I was mistaken and the rep did NOT tell me I would be refunded. I have lost my job and explained but they do not care – they want their money. EVEN after telling me it was not worth their while to remove the equipment. Now they insist that I call and have the equipment removed from my new home and have CPI installed as that is the only way I can get out of paying a “default” invoice. YEAH and then they want to charge me even more to do that!!! PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR SIGN A CONTRACT WITH CPI – HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE COMPANY!!!

I had a false alarm today and found out neither my camera or audio was working. The light on the camera should be green. My has been on red for months! Apparently CPI cannot tell if you have an equipment issue UNTIL you have an alarm. Good thing it was the wind breaking th unsecured door contact and not a criminal.
So CPI tried to reset the camera and Use pushed a WSP (?) button on my camera and router x4 no luck. I was told to get an Ethernet cable to attach both together. I said it was over 30 feet and she said “they make them that long” My other option was to pay for a service call.
I was told it was probably my internet connection which I said was fine as I had already signed on to my computer and checked my SmartTV’s.
I said it was their equipment failure to no avail. So I guess I’ll have to pay for the service call.
DON’T GO WITH CPI SECURITY AS THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS OUT THERE!!!!

The installer was completly rude and not only that he smelled like weed. Not the first time i get someone who comes “high”to the job. Extremly unprofessional CPI should really start doing drug tests. The guy was also on his phone mist of the time seemed like he didnt know what he was doing.

The worst experience I ever had. Simply, their customer support consists of bunch of morons! It was a terrible experience from the beginning. They offer me 6 month discount but they charged me full premium! I had to call over 4 to 6 times and lose my temper to get them do 3 month only! Wore, when i tried to cancel the service, I had to call many times to be told that I have to write a letter! I wrote the letter in August but they continued to charge me the full premium till now! Called again and not only they never apologized for their incompetence, they insist on charging me for additional 2 month after writing the letter, which was already 3 months after I started calling to cancel the service! Avoid them at any cost!

When we order the service the salesman told us that we can cancel the service without any cost if relocated to another location where CPI does not provide service. So we ordered their service. But now, when we try to cancel service. It turns out that what I was told is a lie. They told me that I cannot cancel the service, even they are not able to provide the service in anyway.

I sold home very quickly and called CPI with cancellation and they informed me needed 60 days notice. How was I to do that. Spoke with supervisor who had same thing happen to her with sale of home and said she understood and would take care of it. DID NOT HAPPEN. CANNOT GET ANY RESPONSE FROM EMAILS AND WAITED 45 MINUTES ON PHONE WITH NO ACTION. I had been with them for 10 years and used automated bill pay. DO NOT USE THEM as they are not customer friendly!

Ranked #1 for DISHONESTY! IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET LIED TO AND CHEATED, DO NOT BUY A CPI SECURITY SYSTEM! My family moved into a house in July 2015 and were in the process of buying it. In August we had a security system installed. September 9th we moved out because the property deal fell through. We made it clear that the landlord did not want the system. We were told we did not owe a default charge by sales rep. Feb.2015 we get a bill for 1,016.50. We call sales rep and leave message. Feb. 27th She calls back and leaves a voicemail that you guys don’t owe the default charges. Inside rep. will be calling shortly. He calls back and leaves a voicemail telling us it was a billing error.and to shred the bill. Thank heavens we saved the voicemail.
Sept 2015 We get a letter from a collection agency for 1,216.00 and have 30days to pay. They are telling us now that the alarm system was supposed to have been put in the landlords name and my husband told them we would pay the bill which is lie. I have ask for phone recordings, dates and times to be emailed to me and was told they would email them. Today I sent another email to the same Supervisor . His response to my email was telling me he had nothing to send me and to call the collection agency. Collection Agency told me to call CPI. Filed a complaint with the BBB and sent recording of voicemail to them. If your smart, don’t buy from CPI.

Stay far away. Do not sign anything. Let me tell you why.

I purchased a home and was given a 5 year contract. I thought to myself, no problem. My wife and I sold the home 3 years later when it became a seller’s market. We called them and they said, you have to continue to make payments but we will credit your account. We said ok.

1 year later and $600 worth of payments, we found a home to rent. We were experiencing the uptown apartment living but we are now expecting twins so we need a bigger place. Ready to get CPI security installed.

I call them and say we would like to have CPI security installed at the new location. I remind them of our 12 months of credit and they say. “SORRY, we can only give you 4 months of credit!!! ” WTF? I speak to a manager named Sammy. He says… “The best we can do is 8 months worth of credit. But only if you sign another 5 year contract.”

This happened today. He just called me back and said, we will give you a 12 month contract for $600 up front and a monthly fee! You can only use 4 months worth of you credit towards the up front payment.

    LOST FOR WORDS!

He did say, we want help you since we care. Lol

Worst experience with any kind of business (PERIOD).
I scheduled an appointment with them 2 weeks ago and they came late, after spending 2 hrs, the technician said he can’t install it (and it was just an upgrade from the previous owners system) and he said he have to reschedule it. I rescheduled it and they called me the same day saying they have to change the appointment to earlier that day because camera installation takes long time but I told them I can’t and I arranged my whole schedule (my patients and other commitments) to be available as we agreed up on and it’s not my fault that someone overlooked it. I finally agreed after talking to their supervisor to come install it without a camera. I waited 4 hours at home and I kept calling them and they keep saying someone on the way until finally someone at almost 7pm said we have to reschedule again! I told them they are not getting my business and none of my family or people around me especially with this kind of service even before starting! They did not care about the inconvenience for me, for my patients and also my financial losses not working. I would give them less than ZERO stars if I could

CPI Security does not care about their customers and here is case and point. I reside in the Charlotte, NC area. Two weeks ago two males entered a home in a robbery attempt. The homeowner arrived home and shot one burglar and the other fled. Several days after learning of this incident which occurred in my neighborhood, I called CPI and told them I wanted external video cameras installed and advised them as to why. They attempted to schedule the new install a month later! I told them this was unacceptable due to the circumstances. The rep told me she would contact the manager and do everything she could to do it ASAP and she would call me back. She never called me back. I called CPI customer service several days later and offered them this: If you can’t have someone out here this week (Called on Monday), I would cancel service. What do you think they did? Nothing! No one called me back. There you have it. CPI Security doesn’t care if a shooting occurred in one of their customers neighborhood and they want to add on equipment. I will do everything I can to sway neighbors and all of the military NOT to use this company.

I’ve been trying to cancel service on my parent’s home they are both deceased and I’ve sold the home. It’s been 2 months and although I’ve faxed and emailed the cancellation request I still can’t get a final statement or acknowledgement that the service is cancelled. I also have CPI service in my residence. CPI is very quick to offer a contract and install equipment but the quality of customer service is poor!

Great system for me, we’ve been customers around 14-15 years, but it’s not been all smooth sailing. We upgraded to the video system with two inside cameras and I was expecting quirks along the way till we got it fine tuned and dialed in. As I expected we had some false alarms but because of our over redundancy (door switches, glass break, motion, video) it is fairly easy to rule out false alarms. The false alarms continued we kept getting “crash & smash” false alarms. Had two techs come out and swap camera after camera, never improved false alarms kept pouring in. We had had it it made me sick I loved the video on my Iphone but we were gonna have the system removed it was of no benefit it became a nuisance. So we requested their best tech because the old system did not do this, and this guy was the best!!! The simplest thing he found we have cell backup, the unit was installed in the same place as the old unit but the cell antenna had never been uncoiled and affixed in a vertical position to it’s fullest length. Our cell signal strength originally measured one block, it now measures all four. The false alarms immediately stopped! Hope this helps someone who is at their wits end.
