Pros

CPI ‘No False Alarm Guarantee’

A common complaint from home security customers is false alarms. To ensure customers don’t worry about that, CPI has a “No False Alarm Guarantee” that promises a credit to the customer’s account if they receive a fine from the local police department for false alarms. So while the company does not guarantee that no false alarms will go off, they do promise you won’t pay for them. In most cases, false alarms are the result of faulty equipment or installation.

Positive CPI Security Reviews

In 2019, most of the reviews for CPI Security have been positive experiences shared by new customers. The most common praise is the company’s customer service. Reviewers describe their experience with the company as friendly, polite, a great experience, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Video Verification

CPI Security’s home security system video verification is actually quite impressive. According to the CPI Security website, “an alarm event triggers your security cameras to start recording and notifies CPI’s award-winning Central Station.” This recorded video verification allows customers to know there is a real threat, like burglars, or if its nothing to worry about.

Security Systems for Businesses

CPI Security is available for businesses in licensed states. The company specifically caters to retail stores, restaurants, medical offices, and industrial warehouses.

Cons

Undisclosed Fees and Transparency Issues

Although CPI Security Systems boasts free installation, this promise comes with several conditions. For example, the cost of a CPI security system can be extremely high if you don’t own your home, as CPI Security attaches a hefty $299 installation fee for renters. All customers, whether they rent or own, may also be required to pay additional installation fees for second-story security cameras. And though the website says customers can receive up to $2,200 in free equipment, customers are required to purchase upfront a minimum of $99 in monitoring equipment.

Unlike other security companies, CPI Security does not clearly state the details of opening an account or service agreement. Actual monthly rates and contract lengths can vary greatly depending on the customer’s credit rating, and the CPI website yields little information for customers to reference. They do say that their monitoring rates start out at $29.99 per month. We can assume that is for their most basic package – “inTouch Essentials”. In order to receive an accurate quote, customers must first receive credit approval.

Negative Reviews of CPI Security

About half of the CPI Security reviews on Best Home Security Companys are complaints. The most common theme amoung these complaints are as follows:

  • People were unable to get out of their long, 5-year contract with the company. Reviewers warn people to read the entire contract before signing.
  • Not able to get a hold of customer service.
  • Out-dated and fault systems

Limited Availability

CPI Security Systems is only available in the southern region of the United States. They are predominantly in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, but do have licenses to operate in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Mississippi, and Arkansas as well. Those interested in CPI Security systems need to make sure they check the company’s state availability before contacting the company.

Our Recommendation

Despite the initial offerings CPI promises and reactions from consumers, CPI Security has hidden fees, high upfront costs, and long contracts. We encourage you to look for less expensive, higher rated home security systems. View our top-rated home security systems.

I needed a system for my new business, met with a salesman on 12/26, was happy with the offer, he said he would call me later that evening to let me know if system could be installed next day, I had to txt him at 10:30 that night for him to reply saying “sorry there was no open grids available that day for install, The office will call you Monday morning to schedule your install” Well I never heard from anyone from CPI, I waited a few days later and sent him another message, he did not reply. I called the customer care line yesterday and filed a complaint, they were very apologetic and said they sent his supervisor a email that he would call me, so we could get this issue resolved.. No contact from the supervisor as of today… I have now been inconvenienced since 12/26, still have no security system and no closure. If this is how they treat their customers ESP New Customers why would I trust them to protect my place of ,business and livelihood. I say take your business elsewhere where they appreciate you as a customer and welcome your business

CPI sells you on Fast Response Time and No False Alarm Guarantee!!! Please understand clearly what they are saying is when your Alarm Trips they will contact you Fast – But they have no control over the Police response time. My alarm Tripped and i got home 35mins later and the Police still was not There !!! Also is was a False Trip of door to Garage and all you get from Customer Service is when will have a Technician come out and take a look at it so i am Confused on the No False Alarm Guarantee ??? and remember once you sign contract even if the problems are theirs you are Stuck or pay 75% wow what a Guarantee!!!

I am in yet another 5 year contract with them. They claimed if I upgraded I would have the best cemera service. NOT. Unless the lights are on or the burglary is going on a bright, sunlit day you cannot see anything in the house. Don’t fall for the sales promises. $46 a month times 5 years for About $2,700. Be sure it is what you want and need.

System is ok, I don’t think it is better or worse than any other service but CPI’s customer service is absolutely the worst in the industry. Their sales reps are pushy and when you call them on the phone they (all) seem legitimately annoying to help you. I’d avoid them.

I, a person who rarely likes signing contracts got suckered into signing a CPI Security Systems contract. I just got a job promotion a few months ago and asked to transfer my service (but the don’t exist here in Arkansas) so I have to either pay 75% of 5 years or continue paying monthly for 5 years. SMH. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. I ignored my own advice and that’s $1500 down the drain.

5 year contract is ridiculous and should be avoided by anyone who may have even the slightlest chance of losing a job or being relocated. Company is all about locking you into a long term contract. My job relocation forced a move to an area that CPI does not cover or support. CPI does not have sister companies or affilitates in other areas of the country to continue service. Company will not budge on extended contract and could care less once they have you locked in. Fortunately I still have plenty contacts (CPI prospects) in the area to inform about this company and I am informing everyone to avoid CPI and go with a competitior

We moved 3 years in to a 5 year contract. CPI wants to charge us $99 for installation in the new house, plus they want us to sign a new 3 year contract.

I would rather pay the 75% of the remaining contract than give them any more of my business!

Been with CPI for a few years I paid only $99 and have many home automation features, camera, door lock etc. I have had nothing but great service and have dealt with truly nice people. I refered 3 friends to CPI and I got 3 free months of monitoring. I love the intouch app on my phone and I truly feel secure with this system. I had a large national company at my old house and their service was poor and they were the same price without having any cameras. CPI has treated me well, I feel like a person not a number with their service.

Had a three year contract, camera inside stopped working and they wanted money to fix it so it stayed broken for over two years….Gave 60 day notice, they came and removed entire unit from the wall leaving a hole and I continued to get calls from CPI stating the alarm was going off (alarm was gone). Just got a final bill from them even though I was told I was paid in full………..enough already.

They have no customer loyalty program. You can’t add new equipment without extending your contract. Even if they fix their broken equipment, you’re contract is extended. You end up paying more for out-dated equipment. You can not get what they advertise of tv if you are a current customer without paying for it. So don’t be fooled by the low introduction price.

Almost signed up with CPI. Purchased the 5 year package and set up installation but thankfully did not make it as far as signing the contract. They charged an incorrect amount to my credit card, misscheduled my installation date; had to call three times to get an email with what I had purchased, did not have all the equipment I had purchased in their system, then on the day of the install which was to be 12 – 3, the installer called at 2:30 to say he was on a big job and would be late. A manager guaranteed me he would be at my house at 3:30; at 4:00 I called to cancel the install. Every time I called customer service they were very nice but only kept transferring me to managers who had no clue why all these things happened. No follow through or quality control with this company; not who I want providing security for my home.

I have been a customer of CPI for over 12 years. The service has definitely deteriorated and the customer service is infuriating. They pass you from person to person who basically tell you the same thing except that they get less and less friendly as they proceed. I basically feel blessed that I only have 15 months left with this deceptive, unscrupulous security company that could care less about my safety or feelings of security. How they are maintaining an A- rating is a mystery to me.

The 5 year contract sucks, I was not told this as a young first time hone buyer even I was not naive enough to tie myself to a service that long without knowing if I would like it. Its super expensive. 50 bucks when most compareable services are 25-35! Lots of fskse alarms and radio modem failures :-( plus I only saved 9 (yes! nine) dollars off my policy for the year!

We were happy with the service CPI provided, but very unhappy with their contract process. We had been customers for 6 years and decided to upgrade to the cellular service. After another year or so, we had to sell our house due to a move to a condo where we could not continue our service. CPI charged us $895 to get out of their predatory contract, saying they had installed hundreds of dollars of equipment for the cellular system. It was just one small cell phone thing added to our closet–did not appear to be a big deal. Look closely at contract terms in case you have to move.

The sales people do not tell you the whole story. They tell you the system/equupment is free and that it is transferrable if you move. However there was no mention of a 60 month contract in the sales pitch ( it is buried in the lengthy contract) as is the information that you have to sell your home buyers on the system if you move. Otherwise you are gouged with the over-priced cost of your “free” equipment. The inside sales people are rude and so are their supervisors. We attempted to get our service transferred…there was a hidden HUGE cost and, when they were unable to provide us service at our new home due to no cell service directly thru verizon or att, they again tried to charge us a ridiculous amount of money. Stay away from CPI.

This is the WORST company that I have ever dealt with! How they have an A+ with BBB is unbelievable. I have had a system for 5 years. The first time we moved they made us sign another 2 year contract and charged full price for system at new location. The second time we moved they supposedly give us the discounted price if we upped it another 2 years. The price was $500 for a basic system, which was not their discounted price as they said. BS! That was 2 years and 4 months ago, got paper work to prove it. However, now that we are cancelling with them they say we are still under contract for 3 more months. Be careful with this company. THEY WILL SCREW YOU!!!!

We had CPI years ago and were very pleased.

So we signed up with them again and, this time, they are terrible.

They won’t use phones to check on us after an alarm. Instead we have a speaker that is awful even after they’ve come to fix it. It barely works enough to respond to let them know a glass break was a false alarm even when standing RIGHT in FRONT of it.

They set us up with a medical alert pendant and a front door lock so EMS could gain access. However, when my elderly father-in-law set off his pendant the fire department had to break into my house despite the door lock we’d been sold for that purpose.

I could go on and on. Every time they come for a repair, the component they repair or change still isn’t operating correctly.

Gonna check my contract. I want out.
