Pros

CPI ‘No False Alarm Guarantee’

A common complaint from home security customers is false alarms. To ensure customers don’t worry about that, CPI has a “No False Alarm Guarantee” that promises a credit to the customer’s account if they receive a fine from the local police department for false alarms. So while the company does not guarantee that no false alarms will go off, they do promise you won’t pay for them. In most cases, false alarms are the result of faulty equipment or installation.

Positive CPI Security Reviews

In 2019, most of the reviews for CPI Security have been positive experiences shared by new customers. The most common praise is the company’s customer service. Reviewers describe their experience with the company as friendly, polite, a great experience, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Video Verification

CPI Security’s home security system video verification is actually quite impressive. According to the CPI Security website, “an alarm event triggers your security cameras to start recording and notifies CPI’s award-winning Central Station.” This recorded video verification allows customers to know there is a real threat, like burglars, or if its nothing to worry about.

Security Systems for Businesses

CPI Security is available for businesses in licensed states. The company specifically caters to retail stores, restaurants, medical offices, and industrial warehouses.

Cons

Undisclosed Fees and Transparency Issues

Although CPI Security Systems boasts free installation, this promise comes with several conditions. For example, the cost of a CPI security system can be extremely high if you don’t own your home, as CPI Security attaches a hefty $299 installation fee for renters. All customers, whether they rent or own, may also be required to pay additional installation fees for second-story security cameras. And though the website says customers can receive up to $2,200 in free equipment, customers are required to purchase upfront a minimum of $99 in monitoring equipment.

Unlike other security companies, CPI Security does not clearly state the details of opening an account or service agreement. Actual monthly rates and contract lengths can vary greatly depending on the customer’s credit rating, and the CPI website yields little information for customers to reference. They do say that their monitoring rates start out at $29.99 per month. We can assume that is for their most basic package – “inTouch Essentials”. In order to receive an accurate quote, customers must first receive credit approval.

Negative Reviews of CPI Security

About half of the CPI Security reviews on Best Home Security Companys are complaints. The most common theme amoung these complaints are as follows:

  • People were unable to get out of their long, 5-year contract with the company. Reviewers warn people to read the entire contract before signing.
  • Not able to get a hold of customer service.
  • Out-dated and fault systems

Limited Availability

CPI Security Systems is only available in the southern region of the United States. They are predominantly in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, but do have licenses to operate in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Mississippi, and Arkansas as well. Those interested in CPI Security systems need to make sure they check the company’s state availability before contacting the company.

Our Recommendation

Despite the initial offerings CPI promises and reactions from consumers, CPI Security has hidden fees, high upfront costs, and long contracts. We encourage you to look for less expensive, higher rated home security systems. View our top-rated home security systems.

Other then having them to come out 3 times in past 6 weeks for bad key phob…and new updates false alarm (motion). They are great…have great follow thru…and try to solve problems quickly…I do not like my second bedroom key pad soo soo Generally generic compared to the LCD…sure I can purchase another for over 200.00. They get more a month but to talk to a live person is Pease of mind…what is the point of having a key pad in my bedroom if I can’t set it on stay with doors on instant…I don’t get that…waiting for price to come down to get better bedroom access…as much problem I have had they should give me a discount…there employees are very professional and don’t give you the run around…

Whatever you do… Do not use!!!!! Will sign you into 5 year contracts and if you ever have issues the only way you can get things fixed and not pay 500-1000 dollars a time is to “verbally” agree to extending the life of your contract another 5 years!!!!!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. My family relocated out of the area and the company is mandating that we pay for the ADDITIONAL 31 months of the contract. Due to the poor customer reviews, the new homeowner declined using CPI. Now we have to foot the bill. BEWARE! They are more concerned about getting your money and locking in a contract as opposed to actually providing decent service. I expect this company will just go downhill from here… They could care less about how they are perceived.

Great! Same Day installation, app is amazing, panel is nice and intuitive. Key-less locks are top notch, have not have any false reports, no installation fee and no equipment fee, just a flat fee. Contract is for 3 years I believe though. Great so far.

I’ve had CPI SECURITY service for many years and it was OK, although from time to time I would get very annoying noises from the panel stating “PHONE FAILURE TROUBLE” all night long, all week until the CPI technician arrives. Sometimes have to wait up to 2 weeks to have CPI technician in my house. Despite statement that they charge $29.99 it is not true, because they used to charge $38 per month, but after adding satellite back up it became $47 and now their new wireless system (which I did not install) is $50 a month, plus I paid close to $2000 originally when the new system was being installed in my house years ago. Recently they offered me free indoor cameras and to upgrade to a wireless system yet they were unable to install the outdoor cameras, so I did not go with the new, more expensive system ($50 per month) and a new contract. Today 704-945-6000 called me and did not speak, then hung up on me. I found out it is CPI security who Ive been using. The support was kind of “sceptical” or “difficult” on several occasions (for a lack of a better word) talking to me. This is not the first time this is happening and the CPI has quite an attitude. I would not recommend them anymore and am considering going with a local, less expensive security company, especially due to the weak economy and an income drop. Just want to add that their system works most of the time, but their attitudes just makes it hard to keep them and the “PHONE FAILURE TROUBLE” noise signal all day all night is quite frequent and they do not advise me how to disable that, so I have to sleep with constant loud signals and voices coming from this security alarm system.

I am locked into a 39 month contract. After my contract is over, I will look for another security system for my home. They flat out lie…. Charged me 2 months in advance without telling me and billed me early one month which caused on overdraft on my bank account of $36.00.PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER CPI for your home security. What a mistake I mad that will last for years to come.

I would never recommend CPI to anyone! The package that was offered to me on the phone was nothing like the work order the technician had. They lied about window sensors, length of contract, price and the refund of my $29.95 deposit, which now 2 months later I am still calling 2 times a week and still haven’t rec’d my refund.
When the technician came to install, there was no way we would agree to something that was totally different; a much smaller security protection package ,than I agreed on, with the sales person on the phone. About 30 mins after the technician left, without installing, the CPI supervisor came by to see how our installation went. When we told him we didn’t get the installation done and the reason behind it, he said he would check on the issues and get back with us the same day. Have yet to hear back! Oh and they said in a threatened manner, that they were going to have to review the sales conversation. I said, I hope you do and after that call me back and admit your deceitfulness. No call from them about that either. Think about it, if you can’t trust them to do what they say they are going to do, how could they be trusted to protect the security of their home? Very dishonest and deceitful company!

CPI Security showed me one system, and installed a much older system. When I questioned it, they said they will just remove everything they did and leave (including leaving holes in my wall where they cut to place the speaker system). That obviously wouldn’t work. I was forced to keep the out-of-date system.

They told me it was a two year contract on the phone when I signed up to have someone come out. Then on the way out the door gave me a piece of paper to sign after install “to say it was complete” – and that paper included ONE SMALL LINE saying the contact was now 60 months.

They want 75% of the contract paid back to cancel. There is no OUT CLAUSE.

I would never use a company like this again.

I have had CPI for about a month now. I love it. I have not experienced any problems at all. The tech that installed my system and the tech that came out to install my camera were both very nice and professional. You have to look at what you are getting for the money. Those do it yourself systems only have a 1 or 2 yr warranty. CPI warrants everything except the camera for as long as you have their service. Also the camera has a super clear picture. When I placed my order, the salesperson helped me decide what I needed, but when the tech came out, we made a couple of changes. He did not try to sell me more stuff. They let me exchange the thermostat for an additional motion detector. In conclusion, I have been very satisfied with my system, and would recommend CPI.

Have been with CPI approx 9 years and have been more than satisfied. We initally installed door sensors, glass break sensors, motion sensor, window switches, and false alarms were greatly reduced due to only one sensor reporting. We upgraded to intouch, and it took us a couple of months to adjust to a new system and it’s quirks. We resolved a major issue with connection from a faulty cell backup with severe static on line. I love the flexability with monitoring video of the garage and living room, and alerting me if anything goes amiss. The one thing that is still going on now is the cameras will take turns going off line, system says “camera could not be reached”. I love the control you have over your house when away, but the camera issue is really giving me major concern when intermittently disconnects. I know everything has glitches occasionally, the camera has been constantly giving trouble ever since we upgraded. The other issues were resolved like false reporting of thermostat and no connection with system, none of that has ever reoccured, except the camera issue and the camera has been changed once and basically does the same thing. No one else offers what CPI offers, I’m hopeful someone will resolve these issues soon.

I have started with CPI about 4 months ago and I’ve made the mistake to include in the package their thermostats controlled remotely by internet (with PC and mobile device).
Be careful, their equipment are just not working. They are switching into malfunction mode all the time and you cannot remote anything anymore. Technicians already came 3 times (I had to wait about 10 days each time) but I still have the same problem.

This worries me if the rest of the equipment is actually working. I would not recommend CPI to anyone, they are just not professional enough to leave the security of your home in their hands.
