Pros

CPI 'No False Alarm Guarantee'

A common complaint from home security customers is false alarms. To ensure customers don't worry about that, CPI has a "No False Alarm Guarantee" that promises a credit to the customer's account if they receive a fine from the local police department for false alarms. So while the company does not guarantee that no false alarms will go off, they do promise you won't pay for them. In most cases, false alarms are the result of faulty equipment or installation.

Positive CPI Security Reviews

In 2019, most of the reviews for CPI Security have been positive experiences shared by new customers. The most common praise is the company's customer service. Reviewers describe their experience with the company as friendly, polite, a great experience, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Video Verification

CPI Security's home security system video verification is actually quite impressive. According to the CPI Security website, "an alarm event triggers your security cameras to start recording and notifies CPI's award-winning Central Station." Undisclosed Fees and Transparency Issues

Although CPI Security Systems boasts free installation, this promise comes with several conditions. For example, the cost of a CPI security system can be extremely high if you don't own your home, as CPI Security attaches a hefty $299 installation fee for renters. All customers, whether they rent or own, may also be required to pay additional installation fees for second-story security cameras. And though the website says customers can receive up to $2,200 in free equipment, customers are required to purchase upfront a minimum of $99 in monitoring equipment.

Unlike other security companies, CPI Security does not clearly state the details of opening an account or service agreement. Actual monthly rates and contract lengths can vary greatly depending on the customer's credit rating, and the CPI website yields little information for customers to reference. They do say that their monitoring rates start out at $29.99 per month. We can assume that is for their most basic package - "inTouch Essentials". In order to receive an accurate quote, customers must first receive credit approval.

Negative Reviews of CPI Security

About half of the CPI Security reviews on Best Home Security Companys are complaints. The most common theme amoung these complaints are as follows:

  • People were unable to get out of their long, 5-year contract with the company. Reviewers warn people to read the entire contract before signing.

CPI Security Systems is only available in the southern region of the United States. They are predominantly in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, but do have licenses to operate in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Mississippi, and Arkansas as well. Those interested in CPI Security systems need to make sure they check the company's state availability before contacting the company.

CPI was the security company for my mother for the last ten years. They drafted her payment each month. When my mother suffered a stroke and moved to a skilled care facility, I cancelled the account. However, this company continued to draft payment citing a required thirty day notice. I cannot find this in the most recent contract signed in 2015. Be careful of their underhanded ways.

I accidentally left my keys in my front door. I was upatairs and the alarm awent off. Thankfully I have CPI. Someone definitely opened my front door. I called 911. However CPI had already notified the police. Without CPI someone would have entered my home and I would have never known. Scary thought. Thankful tonight for CPI and those who monitor the system.

I was constantly having problems with my system! I did not live at the CPI MONITORED address full time. I was constantly getting notifications that my system had failed not to mention the false alarms! Numerous times I had to pay someone to go to my residence and wait for a technician after days of no protection! I notified them that I was cancelling my contract and going to a more reputable company, which I did! Now they want over $500.00 cancelation fees! See you in court!!! PS, Tried to work out a mutual agreement but the representative was very rude and hung the phone up on me! STAY AWAY! My brother and numerous friends are canceling their service when their contact runs out!

We got cpi almost a year ago and the day we closed on our house cpi was out the next day installing everything. Well let’s just say from that day on it’s been nothing but problems we paid near $2500 cash for our Equipment !!! And a week after we got it installed it’s been problem after problem i have had so many technicians Out at our house because something is always not working. I have talked to costumer service so many times i have lost count, I’ve been told i would be contacted back and nothing our issues have not be resolved and our equipment is still not working right after almost a year. The customer service is horrible and so are the Quality control representatives!!!! You would think after all the money we have spent and the $59 a month we pay for our service they would try to help us more and fix it but they seem not to care!!! I do not recommend them at all!!!! If i would have known all of this when i wanted to go with them i would have looked into another security system With another company. Don’t waste your time nor money with cpi it’s not worth it.

I have had some of the same issues, schedule appointments and no one shows up, they break a contract and that is fine, but if we decide not to go with them due to wasting our time over and over, we owe them money for breaking the contract. I am asking if anyone knows a phone number or an email to corporate, not customer service, they make promises they cant keep. I would like to reach someone in Corporate if anyone is able to help me that would be great.

I've had CPI since August 30, 2019. So far very dissatisfied. I have the upload speed it takes to operate this system however they do not pick up any motion on any of the 3 cameras I have. Last tech did some adjustments and still nothing. Going have to get back on the phone with them again and either they fix it where it works or ill get a supervisor to override and cancel the contract since I am not getting what I am paying for.

They send very weird, questionable techs out that you wouldn’t want on your property, not to mention in your house. In order for their surveillance cameras that I bought from them to work, I had to order $400 worth of other stuff. And their cameras consistently have been knocked off line, especially in good weather. When the last CPI tech came out and moved cameras out of place, he refused to move them back to the angles where I had them. I have gotten such shoddy service and weird techs that I stopped by their office just to assess the atmosphere. If your values are anywhere near conservative, run from CPI like the plague.

I recently purchased a home that has a CPI system installed. I decided it would be best to continue with them since most of their equipment is in place. I have been promised two different installation dates - neither of which have been met, although I pre-paid a year of monitoring in advance in addition to purchasing additional equipment to enhance the system. To date I have been given the run-around as to why a service person had not been sent to activate my system. Today I was told that someone “attempted to call” me on Monday. First, there was no reason for CPI to contact me as I was assured that an installer would be at my home this Friday. When I called them today to inquire about a time frame for tomorrow’s visit I was again told I did not have an appointment. When I gave the individuals name with whom I spoke as well as the date and time of the conversation I was placed on hold and transferred from department to department. I was given a new installation date another 10 days from now. Upon asking for a supervisor I was told they “did not operate that way” and that no one could do anything more. When I called back to cancel the contract I have now been told that they could get someone there a week from now. This process began weeks ago and I am still in limbo as to whether ta service person will appear. I am inclined to believe that using this “locally owned” company is a huge mistake.

KEEP OUR FAMILY SECURE---DO NOT USE CPI Security!!!! Worst. They do not monitor and when you call in you get put on hold. An alarm company user with a problem and you get put on hold!!! Cancellation they will not do. I cancelled this system 2 years ago! I re cancelled one year ago. All equipment was returned and today I am still awaiting a refund!! DO NOT USE FOR AN EMERGENCY OR FOR ANY REASON!! POOR.

I have tried to cancel because I'm home more and don't arm it. I have tried to cancel service. They tell me they are sending an email for me to sign. TWO times, I've not received it. They tell me they sent it. I can check my emails for 12months and I've NEVER received the email, all thy he while being charged! Finally, I got the email last night 7/23/19. Do I get a refund for the months it should have been turned off???

The staff I have dealt with getting my questions and concerns were cleared and answered. Ms Julia and Mr Micah were both fabulous, helpful, and accommodating. Ms Julia in particular was extra resourceful in regards to my proof of ownership. We saw the CPI Memorial Day offer for new customers and thought we'd call them to see if there were any offers for existing customers, which sadly are never as good as they are for new customers. To my surprise we were able to get what we wanted that was equivalent out of pocket cost to the systems we were considering @ Best Buy to replace/upgrade existing system with exterior cameras since we now have a greenway being built in our backyard. We’ve been CPI customers for nearly 20 years. Myisha (spelling??) was absolutely incredible and earned the sale. She is smart, persistent and client focused speaking with her manager 2x about my pushbacks. Thank you Myisha and CPI.
