Security System Overview

Frontpoint provides world-class customer service backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. Their mission is to deliver an A+ customer experience and a Safer, Smarter, Simpler home security solution. They do so with a wide range of wireless sensors including window sensors, door sensors, motion sensors, carbon monoxide detectors, and glass break sensors to detect signs of trouble. See below for our Frontpoint Security review.

Cost

Equipment and monitoring fees are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. These Frontpoint systems have a monthly fee for professional monitoring, but that price is not disclosed on the website as prices may vary depending on each individual home.  We were, however able to get some numbers for standard costs of alarm monitoring.  The monthly price ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation controls and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only.

Contracts are available for 12 and 36 months. However, there is a $99 minimum equipment purchase. Pre-made, comprehensive security packages range from $199.95 – $349.95. Customers own all the Frontpoint equipment they’ve purchased and have a  30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Here’s  what you get with Frontpoint Interactive Monitoring ($44.99/month):

  • 100% Cellular – Crash and Smash Guarantee
  • Intrusion
  • Fire
  • Environmental
  • Life Safety
  • 24/7 Professional Monitoring

Plus interactive features such as:

  • Email and Text Alerts
  • Remote Access and Control
  • Frontpoint app
  • Light controls
  • Geo-Services
  • Crash and Smash

The Good

Frontpoint equipment is easy-to-install. There are no installation fees, and Frontpoint understands the value of diligent customer service. One of the major selling points that helps minimize consumer risk is their 30-day money-back guarantee, so a customer can try Frontpoint security systems out and see for themselves. It appears that they satisfy most of their customers. Frontpoint has a loyal following. Their customers have continually rated them highly and applauded their services.

Some of Frontpoint’s great features include:

FrontPoint Skybell

  • NEW– Integrated Skybell Video Doorbell Camera
    • (available only with the Ultimate plan)
  • 100% cellular monitoring – safe and reliable
  • 100% wireless equipment – easy and portable
  • Mobile apps – interactive remote control
  • Full protection – intrusion, fire, environmental and medical emergencies
  • Upfront pricing – no hidden fees + 30day Risk-Free Trial
  • Easy to install – No drilling or hammering needed
  • Crash and Smash – Patented technology
  • Take it with you when you move – great for real estate investors

Frontpoint uses a simpler approach to monitoring options by offering a 100% cellular connection. Unlike other security companies, their wireless system is not dependent on a phone line, internet connection, or any other system within a home. Their system won’t go down if the landline or internet fails and all communication is built into the system itself.

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you’ve installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it’s performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint’s Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology. The Frontpoint app lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint’s control panels. Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys’ IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel. New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever. This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera app and front-facing camera

Our experts have found that Frontpoint is reliable and they take care of their customers. Here are reasons as to why our experts believe Frontpoint provides quality home security systems:

  • The majority of their customer base has had an overwhelmingly positive response.
  • Frontpoint has only been in business since 2007, but they have already made an impression on the home security industry.

In addition to all this Frontpoint continues to innovate recently offering its customers with new Wi-Fi doorbell security cameras. These doorbell cameras include a motion detector and 2-way communication so you can always see who’s at the door through video surveillance and they never have to see you.

The Bad

The main drawbacks to Frontpoint that we found are as follows:

  • Upfront Costs: While equipment fees start at $99, they may reach as high as $449 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 window sensors/door sensors.  If you were to customize their base package to include 10 extra door sensors/window sensors, you would pay close to $248.90 out of pocket.
  • Frontpoint Security Equipment Warranty: FrontPoint only offers a 3-year warranty on their equipment.  Many other competitors offer lifetime equipment warranties.
  • Time in Business: Frontpoint was founded in 2007. They continue to improve their service each year, but they are not as “established” as some of the other companies who have been in the industry for decades.

The Bottom Line

Frontpoint is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their services can’t go wrong.  And if they do… Frontpoint will make it right. They’re also rated highly pretty much anywhere you look, and there are hundreds of five-star ratings. They lay out all their information clearly on their website, and you can request a quote online. They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top of the line technology and equipment. There is a reason they are one of the best companies with whom to work. Visit their site today!

I've never had a problem with Frontpoint's customer support or equipment. It was easy to install, and anytime I've called, they fully resolve any issues. I went with this company due primarily to the cost and online research that shwoed they were the one for me to choose.Read More

They were more cost effective for us than ADT. We didn’t need as much equipment in order to cover the square footage of our home as we would’ve needed with ADT. Since it was all self-installation too, we went with it. We’ve had it since November and everything seems to work well. It was incredibly easy to set up everything and any additional pieces are very inexpensive. They’re very reliable.Read More

Delivery was very quick! Set up was pretty easy once a customer service rep walked me through it. It was very well organized and easy to use though. Also, the phone app and website is very informational and helpful!

This system has been a headache and a drain on my money, and I wish I never signed up for it. Installation and set up is not easy, it is quite confusing and after the process of installing the hardware and the app, my family and I have been more confused than ever. We never even turn it on, because we’ve gone past our one-week trial window and can’t get a continuous trial period without making a lengthy phone call where they try to convince us not to extend our trial, and finally agree to extend it by only one week. The volume doesn’t seem to be able to adjust (if so we’ve found no sources on how to do so), so the system wakes people up every night people open and close the doors. We’ve been more concerned about the police showing up to our house because this unintuitive system will get set off than we are about actual break-ins at this point, so we’ve taken the system down and left it in a box. Now I just have to pay $45 for two more years until the contract finally ends.

I had my control panel replaced 4 times in the last year and the 4th panel I received still not working. I purchased the touch screen panel and now they’re telling me that it was discontinued and I have to order a manual one. I had a manual one for a few months sent to me until they got restocked with the touch screen one. both are trash. you don’t get anything from this home security and you stuck with a contract for 3 years at least. customer service trying to do something but they’re very limited to what they can offer. no discount and nothing really to compromise the faulty equipment they give you. stay away from this company.

    BEWARE!
I have been a loyal Frontpoint Security customer for nearly 10 years. The service has worked fine. I have another system in a second home that works flawlessly and at about 1/2 the monitoring cost of Frontpoint. My complaint with them is that when I sold my home that used Frontpoint, i’m being told that I will be charged for an additional month beyond my cancellation date. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, FAIR, OR A GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE.

All other services, including my WiFi provider, electric, gas, cellular will not be charging for services i don’t use. This is a RIP-OFF that you may not be aware of so – BEWARE!

I have been a customer for approximately 3 years. Although I am pleased with the cellular aspect of their systems, yesterday I found their customer service representative to be rude, obnoxious, and unwilling to understand the problem and/or to help me. I called as I needed replacement for two metal “magnet” pieces which were continually falling off the doors and sending out false alarms. Simple right? Oh NO, not to be! After a verbal tug-of-war about troubleshooting and “the issue” and blah, blah, blah that lasted approximately 10 minutes, she remained stubborn in her resolve not to fulfill my request.
I then asked to speak with a supervisor. Placed on hold for another 4 minutes, my original contact person then returned to tell me she had received authorization to send them out in the mail. I still cannot understand why the hesitancy to replace two .05 cent parts. Cheaply made plastic parts wear out especially when placed above doors that are used on a regular basis. Why make ordering new ones such an incredibly exasperating and purely aggravating experience? Frontpoint needs to take a hard look at the “service” aspect of their company. If not improved, I will go elsewhere as their are many fine companies around begging for my business.

I have had Frontpoint for a little over 2 years and when I took up with them I had to pay over $200 up front for my system and on their web page it says startup cost $99 and I also seen this so I copied and pasted it here>>>>>>Contract lengths start at 12 months, which is shorter than other companies that ask for a minimum of 36 months.<<<<<I had to sign a 3 year contract, they didn't give me any other choice so I find this comment false advertisement. A couple times we forgot to un-arm before opening a door when we first got our system and we'd call in right away to let them know its a false alarm, they still sent the sheriff to my house anyway, there's a waste of workers tax money! Overall though I do like Frontpoint's system and customer service isn't so bad, you have a couple rude ones but you have that everywhere in my opinion. Reading the reviews about people trying to cancel service is horrific, hope if I ever try and quit them its not such a hassle. But Frontpoint is a good security system, I've had no issues over the past 2+ years :)

We decided to change security systems due to finding a new security system that ties in with Alexa and was much less expensive. Today, I made 4 calls and spent 45-60 minutes trying to disconnect service. One representative couldn’t find my information and that took 15 minutes, another time I was hung up on after they attempted to transfer my call, another time they said they were experiencing a high volume of calls and had me enter in my phone # for a call back (but they never called back). Finally, they asked for a phone password (which I had given previously to another representative) and said I was not correct. So now I have to wait and ask my husband the phone password and try all over again tomorrow. I’m ready to dispute this charge with my credit card company instead of trying this again.

We have had the security system for 5 or more years…the alarm has only been triggered once that required a security officer to come and it was about 45 minute wait time (in a relatively small city). The new system has a smaller keypad to set the alarm each evening and it is portable…so no more eyesore sitting out on our counter top. We save about $20 each month with the new system so in about 2 years it will have paid for the new setup and we will begin saving money.

They don’t deliver what they say they will, customer service is horrible, and the cancellation policy is robbery. Don’t make the mistake of signing up with them. I got burglarized several months ago, and their security monitoring service was way over 2 hours late. Due to a different emergency, the police was 2 hours late. They, however, finished their investigation and report before Cintas actually got there. When Cintas came, they saw the cops and just left without even approaching us or letting us know they were here. A supervisor basically blamed the contracted company and never got back to me with any follow-up. When I wanted to quit, I was told that I can’t cancel on a Holiday. I called and left a message with them during the week (they operate on Eastern Time from 10 to 7, and I work during these hours) letting them know my dilemma. They never got back to me. I called again on a Saturday, and was told that I was being transferred to someone who can help me cancel my account. I was on hold for 30 minutes. I called from another line (I didn’t want to lose my call), and told another customer service representative what was going on, and he told me that nobody on the weekend works in that dept, and that nobody was there–he basically told me that the other guy who transferred me must have not known this and transferred me to an empty office. I called again on Monday on my day off, and spoke to a senior account specialist. He was trying to keep me by offering various discounts, free camera, etc., but it was too little and too late. Now get this… I am quitting this service because they were not able to fulfill their part of the deal, and now the senior specialist was saying I need to pay for this month (I have been actively trying to cancel since Sept. 3rd) AND October! What a racket!!!!!! If a company has to do this, they are definitely SHADY! STAY AWAY! The equipment sucks too. I got false alerts, and the base malfunctioned and started a fire warning alert for no reason. There are way better systems out there that won’t try to rob you from the inside. Do your research.

Please beware of shady FrontPoint Security cancellation policy. I was with this company for over six and a half years. As new technology came out, I decided to switch over to something that made more sense for my family. I figured it would be no big deal to call and cancel the service. To my surprise, i waited on hold for almost 35 minutes to speak with someone in the cancellation Department. Upon speaking with Alain H, he informed me that I would have to respond to an e-mail to cancel the service. I went ahead and replied to the email while on the phone with him. He then proceeded to inform me that although it was September 4, 2018
I was going to be billed the rest of September and October as they need 30 days notice to cancel service. I asked who is it that I can speak to to have the charges waived. He informed me that there was no supervisor available to speak to and said that he can leave a message and they would get back to me in 72 hours. The company basically tried to squeeze me out of $86 for services that were not rendered. I will be contacting the Attorney General’s office and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau to inform them about their deceitful business practices when cancelling an account. In addition, I was currently paying $43 per month with FrontPoint Security and the ring alarm system provides the same exact service with live monitoring for $10. They went ahead and tried to keep me as a customer and offered to lower the bill to $33 per month, in which I told him I was not interested. I just want make every consumer aware of Frontpoint Security deceitful cancellation policy.

I’ve been stuck with Frontpoint for almost 3 years and it’s been a complete nightmare. I’ve had to replace the smoke and water sensors as well as the video camera and the new ones still malfunction on a regular basis. I’ve stopped arming the system because of the false alarms and number of times I receive calls from the monitoring company. I thought this was supposed to give me piece of mind but it’s just the opposite. Cant wait until I can dump this system.

I strongly suggest you do not use frontpoint. I wrote more on other sites, but short story since moving to Google Nest I am much happier at a lower cost point.

Frontpoint didn’t work, and the HW is problematic. I finally gave up after a year, and did make calls to try to address but they are more focused on putting bandaids on the problem vs. fixing.

I signed up for Frontpoint and I installed the system as a first time home buyer. The system itself was good and the customer service was good. I sold my house and moved into a condo with 24hr security. When I called to cancel the service they said I signed up for a 3 year plan and I had to pay all the months of service regardless if I am using the system or not. I thought I signed a 1 year plan. Please be careful of the deceptive contracts. I am planning on buying a house in a year and I was going to use Frontpoint and I have friends who are young professionals who are buying houses who have asked for my advice and I cannot recommend Frontpoint. With so many security options to choose from, Frontpoint has lost my futures business as well as my friends.

After several issues with sensors not fitting or performing as expected I cancelled my contract. The door sensors had to be drilled as the door molding prevented the sensors from operating effectively. The fire detector only worked well for the first 60 days. After that, we received constant error messages. With the onerous contract and poor sensor quality, I seriously recommend finding a better vendor.

I have had Frontpoint for 18 months, and finally just cancelled to move to a simpler system which does what it describes for much less money.

The Frontpoint system initially looked good, nice app, nice words, but over the course of 18 months the system went down, doors went out of detection, but one of the real problems is that it just doesn’t work.

I have had multiples false alarms, and the headquarters doesn’t receive them. They have never called back, I call into the system and tell them it is false and it is like “we didn’t receive it.” I allowed one to go through for over 10 minutes and nothing.

I call into their customer service and they just ping you between multiple people; they say it works but then it doesn’t. They will happily give you more detectors to show that they mean well, but in the end the system doesn’t work so why do it.

When you want to cancel, they will force you to pay hefty fees. This is what bothers me, the amount they charge above and beyond initial equipment and it doesn’t work … they don’t test it, they don’t validate it, they just say “give me more money.”

It is a system designed to take more and more money from you with little benefit beyond an alert when the door opens and closes. Other systems like do that much better for much cheaper.

Ive been a customer for almost 4 years now. Last year i upgraded to the touch screen panel. Ever since my upgrade i have had issues with one sensor giving false notifications on none at all. I called their technical support over a dozen times in past year about this sensor location. This had to be replace 3x in year and a half. Each time I had to spend 60 -90 min on the phone explaining to them what they already know… the have the sensor report showing all the errors. Recently this sensor begin sending the same error message to our cell phone over 100x in one day. I telephoned support again, and was told that my sensor was out of warranty. To my suprise… This sensor is less than 6 mos old! They advised that the warranty is for my system not individual sensor. So lets do the math. Been a customer almost 4 years, have had 2 panels, and 3 replacement sensors, but I’m of warranty??? I have had 3 false alarm do to system malfunction, in which the police responded. I have 100s of bad notifications which causes my family anxiety, because you never know when the notification is real or just ANOTHER false alarm. So this last time I called I was told they’d give me a new sensor for free and that they were doing me a favor. They also gave me one month free monitoring…
This system is garbage! The customer support is worthless! You’ll find better out there. I can’t wait to get out of this contract!

They answered all my needs and even had a contact about getting paperwork for my homeowner’s insurance which they sent out the same day. They’re a bit more expensive but the customer service is friendly.

They have responded every time something has come up. They give clear, concise directions. The last security system I had would go off in the middle of the night for no reason, but this functions well and hasn’t given me any trouble.

My house is out of town and the cameras (three of them) rarely work. I have talked extensively numerous times with Frontpoint and the local wifi company. Frontpoint directed me to a web site to measure the speed of our wifi service. It was determined that drop speed is the reason my reasons do not work. I sent a letter to the local wifi company and they promptly sent me a letter back telling me that’s all they have to offer outside town and that if I don’t like it they will gladly cancel my service. Great customer service. In the meantime, I live with cameras that work rarely.I figure it’s better than nothing. Please let out of town people know about this. I never see it mentioned.

Easy to setup with phone help whenever I need it. Easy to arm and disarm. Friendly technicians call if I forget and open my door when it is set for “No Entry Delay”. Most of all, I sleep secure every night assured that help will come even if I am unable to call.

Frontpoint’s house security has the best overall options. They’ve been very responsive to any questions or issues we’ve had. My only complaint would be that the window sensors are a little clumsy and do not remain adhered to our doors.

I’ve never had a problem with Frontpoint’s customer support or equipment. It was easy to install, and anytime I’ve called, they fully resolve any issues. I went with this company due primarily to the cost and online research that shwoed they were the one for me to choose.

I found Frontpoint on google, and found they were portable and had great reviews on the internet. The only thing I don’t like is that we’re stuck in a contract for 3 years. Other than that, everything is good.

When we were first looking to get a home security system, we wanted something that we could install and monitor ourselves. We also didn’t want an outside company viewing us and our family inside our home. We love Frontpoint, because we’ll get a call from their customer support asking how we’re doing, and we really appreciate that. It’s easy to use, and only took about 2-3 hours to install using their simple instructions. None of the parts were missing when we installed it. I also like the green color of the whole kit. We would recommend Frontpoint because it meets our family’s needs wonderfully.

After doing some searching, I found that Frontpoint’s home security was the most reliable. The system was easy to set up. I had some issues earlier with the main unit, but they exchanged it right away with no issues. The system works without any problems.

THEY DO NOT PERFORM THE JOB YOU THINK YOU ARE BUYING. TERRIBLE!!!
SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK AND THEY TOLD ME I WAS BASICALLY LYING WHEN I CONTACTED THEM TO REPORT THE ALARM HAD GONE OFF AND THEY DID NOT RESPOND. THE PERSON ON THE PHONE ARGUED WITH ME AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING NOTED IN THEIR SYSTEM SHOWING MY HOME ALARM SOUNDED. MY WORD AGAINST THEIRS AND APPARENTLY THEY ARE ALWAYS RIGHT. SAVE YOUR MONEY GO ELSEWHERE TO A COMPANY THAT ACTUALLY DOES WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO.

I called in March 2018 to cancel my service since my contract had expired.
The customer service person kept trying to convince me to keep the service and offering features. I repeated numerous times that I only wanted to cancel the service. The representative kept ignoring what I said and went back to the sales pitch. I finally hang up. Then they kept billing me for the service. When I called to find out why they representative said it was because I hang up. So basically you cannot cancel the service as they will only repeat the sales pitch over and over.

    READ THE CONTRACT FINE PRINT

We have had Frontpoint security system for our home for the past two years and it worked well for the first year, but recently, we have been getting multiple false alarms. After working with the Frontpoint service folks over the phone multiple times, we were still not able to identify what was setting off the false alarms and they continued. Due to the multiple false alarms, the City began charging us for each alarm. Between the service charges, and the City assessment fees due to the false alarms, we chose to move away from FrontPoint as a home security solution. Here is where they have you; the three year contract is not over, so they request 80% of the remaining monthly billing as a cancellation fee, even though they are not able to fix their own system. If you want to just wait out the contract and make the monthly payments, there is no way to cancel the contract in advance after the three years contract is expired. They require you to call after the three year contract has expired and to then call to cancel. Don’t forget that the cancelation must be done in writing.

Technology moved so fast these days, and a three year contract seems a bit long in keeping up with changing technology.

Although I am frustrated with Frontpoint as a business, I feel sorry for the employees who work for this organization. Most workers would like to feel proud of the services and products they provide, but I don’t know how anyone could feel proud about the service levels and contracts that Frontpoint enforces.
