Security System Overview

Frontpoint provides world-class customer service backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. Their mission is to deliver an A+ customer experience and a Safer, Smarter, Simpler home security solution. They do so with a wide range of wireless sensors including window sensors, door sensors, motion sensors, carbon monoxide detectors, and glass break sensors to detect signs of trouble. Cost

Equipment and monitoring fees are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. These Frontpoint systems have a monthly fee for professional monitoring, but that price is not disclosed on the website as prices may vary depending on each individual home.  We were, however able to get some numbers for standard costs of alarm monitoring.  The monthly price ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation controls and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only.

Contracts are available for 12 and 36 months. However, there is a $99 minimum equipment purchase. Pre-made, comprehensive security packages range from $199.95 – $349.95. Customers own all the Frontpoint equipment they’ve purchased and have a  30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

The Good

Frontpoint equipment is easy-to-install. There are no installation fees, and Frontpoint understands the value of diligent customer service. One of the major selling points that helps minimize consumer risk is their 30-day money-back guarantee, so a customer can try Frontpoint security systems out and see for themselves. It appears that they satisfy most of their customers. Frontpoint has a loyal following. Their customers have continually rated them highly and applauded their services.

Frontpoint uses a simpler approach to monitoring options by offering a 100% cellular connection. Unlike other security companies, their wireless system is not dependent on a phone line, internet connection, or any other system within a home. Their system won’t go down if the landline or internet fails and all communication is built into the system itself.

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you’ve installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it’s performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint’s Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology. The Frontpoint app lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. The main drawbacks to Frontpoint that we found are as follows:

  • Upfront Costs: While equipment fees start at $99, they may reach as high as $449 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 window sensors/door sensors.  If you were to customize their base package to include 10 extra door sensors/window sensors, you would pay close to $248.90 out of pocket.
  • Frontpoint Security Equipment Warranty: FrontPoint only offers a 3-year warranty on their equipment.  Many other competitors offer lifetime equipment warranties.
  • Time in Business: Frontpoint was founded in 2007. They continue to improve their service each year, but they are not as “established” as some of the other companies who have been in the industry for decades.

The Bottom Line

Frontpoint is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their services can’t go wrong.  And if they do… Frontpoint will make it right. The Good

Frontpoint offers the best in Home Automation through their “Professional Package”. For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package. With this plan you’ll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home—whether it’s a matter of security or an environmental threat.  Also, you’ll be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using theFrontpoint location-based Geo Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature.  Instead of wandering around in the dark trying to find the lights,Frontpoint Interactive Plan allows customers the ability to create an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm.  Another useful feature is the Frontpoint environmental protection. Dangerous gas, such as Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding can offer bring harm and damage to your family and home unexpectedly.  However, with Frontpoint Interactive plan you get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

Some other great features Frontpoint offers is a thirty-day money back trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

The Bad

Frontpoint offers customized/configured home automation systems. Because these systems are designed to fit the consumers’ needs, Frontpoint does not sell the locks, thermostats, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to setup, there are some who may struggle with it.

The Bottom Line

Overall, Frontpoint’s home automation system is a system that offers some nice features, but is missing some of the key elements that are included in many other automation offers.  If you already have Front Point security or like the idea of self-setup, then we suggest checking out their home automation package.

    I live in Canada and thought I was making the right choice choosing frontpoint security. The sales person told me that they have all the functionality of all the big alarm companies in regards to alarm and automation. No they do not. It was a total lie and their equipment is sub par at best. The panel is from 1980. The cameras take multiple hrs to setup. They charge me as a Canadian in US dollars. This isn’t in their contract and won’t adjust it. They charge for all the shipping of their equipment to head back south of the border. They do reimburse you but not with interest. They took 65 days to refund me $165 USD. Alarm system is crap. You can’t write rules for alarm times, you don’t know when doors have been left ope, you can’t open automated door locks unless it’s their door lock. They discussed this with me at purchase they can open and enable any door lock like the one I listed from my previous alarm company. I want out of my contract for the lies and sub par equipment. The alarm system doesn’t function the way I was told it would. All their reviews are 5 stars or 10 stars…. They obviously manipulate the ratings, which is even worse as a consumer. I hope this review gets the attention of someone at Frontpoint security. I want out of this commitment and contract without the bs penalties. I’ll be glad to send all your equipment back the way I received it, so I can go back to Roger’s.

    I have never used the equipment. It was never activated. I spoke with the company before the 30 days was up to cancel. They sent me more cameras. I do not want this product, I’ve already been charged 191.99 to my credit card and 199.99 for the equipment.
    They are now saying it will cost me over 800.00 to cancel. This is a scam.

    I have been trying for months to cancel my service. I have now been transferred twice while waiting for someone to address my issue. Their way of keeping customers on the hook for the security system is by sending you in circles and telling them I am not speaking with the right person to cancel. They have records of my attempt to cancel in writing and via phone call in their records. However, they continuously bill me and send threating phone calls to me and let me know they are not going to help me. I just spoke with a representative that wanted to question me regarding when I called and who I spoke with. My recommendation is DO NOT choose this as an alternative.

    The service was just so so. I called to cancel and was told that I had a multi-year agreement after I had been with the company for over two years. Every time I call to cancel, I’m told there are four more months left on my policy. No matter when I call, I’m always told that it’s four more months. The customer service people are terrible to deal with and do not record all calls. They also refuse to send customers to their supervisors when asked.

    I’ve had service with several companies in several different locations over the years. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that Frontpoint is any better or worse at monitoring a site than any other company, but they definitely are the WORST when it comes to disconnecting service! They will charge you and force you to have service for at least a month after you place the request to disconnect service and send them an email to confirm it. It might be in their agreement, but who is going to remember that after having the service in place for several years? As far as I can tell, it is just a way to get more money out of people. Even after you explain to them that you do not reside at the address, but that someone else does, they will continue billing you, and continue calling you every time that an alarm occurs. Today was the FOURTH time that I explained to them that I do no live there, it is a rental property with new tenants, and that I am NOT TO BE CALLED concerning their alarms!!! It is Frontpoint’s policy that they must have active numbers on the account to call, so they will not remove any of the prior resident’s information until a new resident starts service. *** SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! ***

    Frontpoint was fine while we were under contract. Once the contract was up is when trouble started. I called in like I was supposed to and spoke with a representative from Frontpoint. He told me everything is taken care of and that was all he needed. I noticed a charge to my account from Frontpoint for March. I went through my bank account and saw the charge in February as well. (I know, I should have saw this a month ago.) I called today, Sat on hold for 35 minutes, just to be told it was my fault even though I was not told about this 30 day written notice when I called in December. They said they will not refund my 2 months they took money from me, only 1 month. I am sorry, they were not monitoring the house. No account to track. Why do they deserve to keep my money. Because of something I was not informed about. Horrible business practice and customer service. Be careful when you leave these guys. It will cost you!!!

    The equipment is good, but motion sensors generating false alarms were a continuous problem. The phone app is good and easy to use… where this company falls flat is their intransigent unwillingness to cancel a contract without forcing you to pay the entire term you have left. With Canadian exchange, the bill became ridiculous, yet they would not let us out of the contract. When the term was up, they put the hard sell on us and bad mouthed other security companies. The final insult was forcing us to pay an extra month even after reaching the end of our term. Last time I ever opt for a fixed length contract. Way better options. One other p*ss off was their utter unwillingness to ship via postal mail. We are rural and remote; we were forced to travel 2 hours to the shipping company depot.

    We never received the system yet they continued to charge our bank account for service we never received.To make matters worse, since I stopped further payments on our bank account they have continued to harass us even after we told them we were canceling the service for nonperformance. We wrote the state attorney general’s office to see if they can be prosecuted for fraud or larceny.

    When I call them, they are available right away. They helped me get the thing set up. There was a billing problem, but they resolved that immediately. They’re very approachable and accommodating, they make everything clear and understandable. It’s easy to operate, so far there have been no malfunctions.

    We love the app because it’s really simple and there’s not a lot of choices on it, which is good for me. It doesn’t look junky, but I wish that some of them came in different colors so that the sensor on the front door would match the brown door.

    There were a couple of occasions that I had to call them, and I waited and waited, and they never called me back. I’ve waited an hour and a half to two hours and I have to call back a second time. Before I got Frontpoint my house was broken into 4 times and this now the alarm went off and he went running like a scared rabbit.
