Security System Overview

Frontpoint provides world-class customer service backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. Their mission is to deliver an A+ customer experience and a Safer, Smarter, Simpler home security solution. They do so with a wide range of wireless sensors including window sensors, door sensors, motion sensors, carbon monoxide detectors, and glass break sensors to detect signs of trouble. Cost

Equipment and monitoring fees are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. These Frontpoint systems have a monthly fee for professional monitoring, but that price is not disclosed on the website as prices may vary depending on each individual home.  We were, however able to get some numbers for standard costs of alarm monitoring.  The monthly price ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation controls and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only.

Contracts are available for 12 and 36 months. However, there is a $99 minimum equipment purchase. Pre-made, comprehensive security packages range from $199.95 – $349.95. Customers own all the Frontpoint equipment they’ve purchased and have a  30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

The Good

Frontpoint equipment is easy-to-install. There are no installation fees, and Frontpoint understands the value of diligent customer service. One of the major selling points that helps minimize consumer risk is their 30-day money-back guarantee, so a customer can try Frontpoint security systems out and see for themselves. It appears that they satisfy most of their customers. Frontpoint has a loyal following. Their customers have continually rated them highly and applauded their services.

Frontpoint uses a simpler approach to monitoring options by offering a 100% cellular connection. Unlike other security companies, their wireless system is not dependent on a phone line, internet connection, or any other system within a home. Their system won’t go down if the landline or internet fails and all communication is built into the system itself.

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you’ve installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it’s performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box.   • Frontpoint Security Equipment Warranty: FrontPoint only offers a 3-year warranty on their equipment.  Many other competitors offer lifetime equipment warranties.
  • Time in Business: Frontpoint was founded in 2007. They continue to improve their service each year, but they are not as “established” as some of the other companies who have been in the industry for decades.

    They were more cost effective for us than ADT. We didn’t need as much equipment in order to cover the square footage of our home as we would’ve needed with ADT. Since it was all self-installation too, we went with it. We’ve had it since November and everything seems to work well. It was incredibly easy to set up everything and any additional pieces are very inexpensive. They’re very reliable.Read More

    Service issues in the years that I had Frontpoint. Seemed expensive compared to other services. I sold my house and moved out of state and called to cancel. I was told there would be an additional month of service even though I was month to month. I WILL NEVER USE FRONTPOINT AGAIN!

    The first time I called Frontpoint I encountered Mike. He was very professional, friendly and answered all my questions and I therefore right then and there purchased Frontpoint.     Customer service and tech support are the best in the business. They do what they say and know what they’re doing. Absolutely love their attitude!. Although, they don’t have the longevity as some of the other companies, that maybe what keeps them clear headed in their approach towards you as the potential buyer, no bait and switch, game playing. So far I like them!

    I was looking to switch companies and since their system was easy to use and a little more reasonable I signed up. I had a whole lot of trouble getting everything installed though. Maybe I didn’t have the right information or asked the right questions, but they were always there to try and help me.

    I picked them because they were cellular based. They were very quick to respond to a false alarm that happened. Some parts of the system that go on the walls have fallen a few times though. The backs of those are uneven so they don’t attach well.

    I went with them since they offered the best value and their system was the most versatile. I’m happy with it for the most part but we just had a false alarm that ended up calling the state police to my house. I think it’s a faulty motion sensor that’s just too old. It has called the police out two times already. I don’t think that should’ve happened. I mean, overall I think they’re a good company, I’m 95% pleased with the service. It’s just that glitch that has me annoyed.

    The previous owner of the house had left their sign behind, so we decided to give it a try. I guess it’s good but I keep having some issues with the sensors. The alarm just keeps going off because of my cat, I’ve got to call them about that.

    If you are crazy enough to sign up be really careful when you try to cancel the service. Their service is not good at all. I kept trying to cancel the account for over 6 months. I could not remove my credit card from the site to stop the billing. So I gave them a gift card that looked like a credit card to get my active account from the site. After over 6 months of trying to cancel the account. I was finally told that I need to pay $479.90 to close the account. The crooks charged my card twice when I only approve the charge to close the account. But that is not the best part for over 6 months the system was completely offline and they were reporting it in a online status, active and no alarms. DO NOT TRUST THEM! I am now taking action against them for the unapproved charge.

    BE AWARE….I called them to get a quote so I could compare with other companies and wound up signing a contract. The main reason I jumped right in was their 45 day return policy with 100% of your money back as long as the equipment is in working order. After receiving the equipment and looking it over I decided I made a hasty decision and wanted to get other quotes for full comparison. I shipped it back to them within 10 days of receiving it, never installed anything. I sent back UPS with tracking info and called 2 weeks later. After playing phone tag with my original salesman he told me that I was supposed to call to get a Return Authorization before shipping it back. Well, that’s funny because it does not say anything about that in their contract or their website. So, he says I have to go through customer support. Very tough to get through to support, as you always have to leave a message for them and they NEVER call you back. I have called them 8 times and got through ONCE. I have sent 8 emails and I have never received a reply back. When I did get through the one time I was told that they have been getting my emails & phone messages but have been too busy to respond. LOAD OF CRAP! I was assured the my credit was coming right out but that was 2 weeks ago. ANOTHER LOAD OF CRAP! At this point it has been 10 weeks since I returned the system and still no credit and they keep charging for monthly monitoring even though I NEVER hooked up any of their equipment. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

    I noticed several negative reviews and decided to offer my review. I have been with FP for nearly 6 years. Initially before I decided to go with FP, I also looked at ADT, and I found at that time FP had better offers in terms of equipment and monitoring fee. I custom designed my own package and paid flexible upfront cost in order to reduce the contract terms or monitor fee (it has been a while I can’t exactly remember the details). After my first contract term expired, I renewed again and negotiated a lower monthly monitoring fee. Fortunately my original equipment since the beginning are still working fine, with exception of the battery of the main control panel, had to replace it twice in 6 years due to defective battery units. However FP was very responsive and quick to send me replacement batteries via FedEx. I also experienced one defective motion sensor, and batteries in other sensor units ran out, but again FP was quick to send replacements.

    The customer service has been very good. The monitoring service has been very good and reliable. We have had several accidental entries without proper disarming of the system, and one or two false alarms, but FP responded very quickly and called me or my wife on the cell and home phone within 1 minute of the events to ensure we are OK. I also like FP app on the iPhone, it is user friendly and has been updated and improved over time.

    Read your contract very carefully and ask questions if you are unsure before you commit. Even after you received the contract you still have a short grace period to carefully review and finally accept it.

    My contract with FP will expire in the near future, unless I can find better terms, fee, and/or equipment, I will likely stay with FP.

    Ugh! Pricey plan and long contracts! We decided to leave this company but it has been a CHORE! They are unable (or unwilling) to keep up with their emails, stating they are “so busy and receive a lot of emails”. When I contacted them about steps to cancel, they only offered me a change in place pricing. I contacted them again saying I wanted to cancel and they said “Oh…well, we require a 30 notification.” This was NEVER mentioned in previous emails. I sucked it up and went ahead and paid for another 30 days and then requested cancellation…CRICKETS! No one responded back for 2 WEEKS! I finally had to call and pitch a little fit for them to cancel my account.

    I’ve been with Frontpoint for over 4 years and have found their products, technical and customer service to be EXCELLENT!! I’ve always gotten knowledgeable and fast help from their representatives. You can add products and they are shipped fast! I have never had a complaint.

    I hardly ever write reviews due to time, but the Representative who helped me today put a Human Face on Frontpoint. He listened to my situation, he was professional andt caring, and he solved my problem. He took the time to go the extra mile.

    I will stay with, Frontpoint and highly recommend it. How many times, do we just want a business to treat us as an individual, a person? This goes a very long way with me, as I already knew their product and service was great.

    When I decided to give them a try it was because of their high ratings. I was highly disappointed when I found out that I was as paying MORE over the term of the contract with my out of pocket and monitoring rate than with the industry leader. I also found out I’m paying them $50 a month for them to call 911 and the other company goes directly to dispatch upon an alarm. Go with the 140+ year old company. All these guys care about is selling equipment over the phone and internet

    I DO NOT recommend Frontpoint. They use sketchy tactics to get customers. I switched from cox home life to frontpoint because cox required you to pay for the device upfront and it was close to $800. When I called frontpoint, they told me I paid a monthly fee so I assumed that meant that I was renting the equipment. Now that I’m moving and don’t need the equipment they informed me that I own the equipment and am on a 36 month contract and I need to pay 80% to cancel.

    While I’m sure the contract stated that, I was never verbally told that. I was buying a home at the time and was presented with multiple contracts so it’s on me for not reading the fine print.

    They had no problem verbally telling me how much it would cost to cancel though.

    Shady tactics! Be aware!

    DO NOT get into a contract with Frontpoint. There is no way out and you’ll be blinded for 3 years even when you move. You MUST take their systems along with you or you will pay a fat fee.

    I have installed the shipped security products (door/window sensors, control panel, door lock, motion sensor, glass break sensor, and doorbell camera) with the help of the Frontpoint app and tech support over the phone. All went smoothly with only minor complications that were quickly overcome. The Frontpoint telephone tech support is a game changer. It is the finest tech support I have ever experience. They are most patient as I race around my home testing the sensors and going back to the control panel. All equipment works as expected an knowing that an experienced Frontpoint tech support person is just a 10 digit phone call away is the most promising peach of mind you could ever expect from a DIY company.

    I was choosing to go with adt but the representative that was helping me was very rude and just should never have been in customer service. When i filled out the prompts and was contacted by front point from the beginning my experience has been the greatest. The rep Mike and Tequila were awesome and they really made my experience the beat ever. I can’t wait until my equipment makes it here

    When I bought my home I was bombarded with different home automation/security systems from many competitors including ADT. ADT contacted me non-stop before I actually gotten very upset and they stopped finally and I am glad I didn’t go with them. Frontpoint offered me an amazing package with great discounts on there equipment and even extra equipment for free. I love the customer service,and if I leave the alarm on and accidentally open a door or trip a sensor within minutes they are calling me to assure that me and my family is doing OK,this is wonderful and makes me very happy that I am really protected. Z-wave products make life easy,the app,and the touch panel makes everything worth it. Any problem I ever had was resolved fully

    I had a terrible experience with this company. I never used the product and paid $49 a month for over 2-years. I called to discontinue service and the customer service representive, David, was very rude and condescending. I will need to pay over $560 if I would like to discontinue service. He told me that “if I did not intend to use this service, then this was not a good choice for me.” He compared the use of Frontpoint to a cell phone provider. When I questioned his logic, and why he was saying this — he argued with me about why I was incorrect.
    There was a tremendous difference in tone and flexibility with the representives who set up the service, and those who answer the calls to discontinue service.
    I understand that not activiating the service was an odd choice, but I was not asking for a refund. I found the set up process difficult (the installation of the video cameras) and kept putting it off until I sort of gave up on the whole thing. Regardless, the call with David was unpleasant and unprofessional. I would be very careful about what you are signing up for when you choose this company.

    It was my first time ever trying a security system. I was going to travel and I wanted to leave everything set up. I was supposed to receive the systems on Thursday. I called today and they said that unfortunately it seems the equipment is lost they would refund the 25 dollar fee and they could resend the new equipment. I had a really bad experience, I can’t say that I would recommend Frontpoint.

    Service was ok, but if you move and no longer need the service cancelling is a nightmare. If you cancel before you contract is up you still get charged 80% of your contract. and if you tell the Rep. to using the existing Account you do not get informed that they can change the amount and pull it out of your checking account so you get charged for another month of Service. NOT HAPPY AT ALL WITH THIS COMPANY AND WILL NEVER EVER USE IT AGAIN AND CERTAINLY WILL NOT RECOMMEND FROINTPOINT TO ANY ONE. THEY ARE CERTAINLY NOT WILLING TO WORK WITH THE CUSTOMER OUT 395.51 FIR SERVICE NOT BEING USED. ALSO HAD TO PAY A 30 DAY NOTICE THEY QUOTE YOU THE AMOUNT THAT YOU WILL HAVE FOR YOUR FINAL PMT.     Wow these people are relentless!!! I asked for a quote via email and then was bobmarded with over 20 phone calls in three days. Guys, i get it you want to talk but calling over 5 times a day is not a good way to get someone’s attention! If you DO NOT want annoying sales people stay away from these people! Plus there are better systems out there that have equivalent pricing.

    I have had Frontpoint for 2 years now and their customer service is excellent! Any issues with my system are addressed immediately. I have some issues here and there with the cameras but the monitoring fees are reasonable compared to ADT.

    The initial sales call is very pushy, but i was ready to buy, so it didn’t really put me off. I also liked the idea that the sales rep sold me on which was that i would always be able to contact him directly. Despite my attempts to do so i have never spoken to him again since The initial sales call. Not that it matters because i realize now that it doesn’t matter who you talk to at frontpoint. The problem is the equipment, so short of changing the equipment to something which isn’t cheap junk, no one at front point will be able to help.

    The first 3 months of our frontpoint service was excellent and mostly trouble free. Their customer service representatives have for the most part been nice and eager to try to help, but nice is irrelevant when the equipment doesn’t function as it should. The equipment is bulky and looks old and clunky. After 12 months it started to function as such. Sometimes taking several minutes to several hours to actually arm and disarm, sometimes never actualy arming at all. One night we went out for a Christmas gathering, and in the few hours we were gone we could not manage to remotely arm the system and when we returned the system was still not responsive via the app. The app showed repeated arming signals being sent, but never managed to successfully arm. Attempting to resolve this with customer service always resulted in “your signal looks good.” They have offered to escalate it further and have me sit on the phone and troubleshoot the system, but I’m afraid i don’t have that kind of time, nor would i want to waste it on troubleshooting if i did.

    The door sensors are an eyesore. Our door leading into the garage is sprung and closes on its own, so it slams a lot. The door closing itself was enough to damage the door sensor. Frontpoint offered to sell me a new one. I was able to make it work again by moving the magnet portion of the switch to where it touches the sensor when the door closes to actuate the switch.

    The sensors on the exterior garage door get stuck often, showing the door is open when it is not. So you end up having to open and close it a few times before it works again. When i called them their questions were so idiotic and condescending that I hung up and decided to just live with it.

    Their motion sensors are a joke. We had to reposition them so many times to get them to stop giving false alarms, to the point where their locations are practically useless. We were recently out of the country and the false alarms started again. Since we were unreachable when the company frontpoint contracts the monitoring duties to would call, they dispatched the police for every false alarm, which has now resulted in a bill from the local sheriff’s department. So we had to start using the system in stay mode only, which only works if an intruder comes in through a door. Of course the offending sensor stopped activating after we switched to stay.

    Next theres the delay. 30 seconds for the alarm to go off, and 30 seconds of the alarm actually going off before frontpoints monitoring cronies lift a finger. That’s a minute. One minute for an intruder to wander around your house and do whatever they want before anyone notices.

    Where I’m at now is having to pay both frontpoint and another alarm company for monitoring services, because paying for the time left in your contract to receive nothing sounds incredibly stupid to me. I feel like frontpoint generates more revenue from contract cancellations than they do from actual subscribers.

    I look forward to the day I can remove all of the frontpoint equipment and throw it in the trash where it belongs. My house is pre wired so every window and door has a sensor on it, this includes motion or glass break sensors in all rooms. I’d much rather have the complete coverage and dependability of the hard wired equipment.

    Excellent customer service. Agent walked me through the set up process step by step. I could not be happier. Only drawback is the cost for additional sensors but that seems to be with any system.

    I was totally on board with Frontpoint. No problems. Great customer service- the system seemed fine. Bu then… I received a notification that my price was going up! Apparently state taxes have gone up- or so I was told, so they have to raise their prices. Now this is odd, considering I am in a 3 year contract. For every contract I’ve ever been in , the price stays the same for the entire contract period. I suppose Frontpoint is above the rules on this– as they have raised my price 2 dollars a month. I know it’s not that much, but over two and a half years, it really adds up. And who is to say they won’t do it again? What good is a contract is the company is breaking it. Honestly disappointed here.

    Absolute horrible service and equipment. Only had the service a few short months and already have had multiple false alarms that Frontpoint can’t help address why. Cannot wait to terminate this contract and go elsewhere!

    The product is ok. Compared to others in the same market for the price it is worth it. However, they lock you in for 3 YEARS! and they do not let you know that, you have to read the fine print. I moved to an apartment and the only way for me to get out of my contract is to pay hundreds of dollars or transfer service and equipment to someone else. Buyer beware. I am now being chargerd $45 a month for something I can’t get rid of! Once I do I will never deal with this company again.

    All their prices(equipment and monthly rate) are based on US dollars. They only have US website. So if you live in Canada and want to get Frontpoint your upfront cost and monthly rate will be more. Especially rate will change every month
