Frontpoint provides world-class customer service backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee for its home security system. Their mission is to deliver an A+ customer experience and a Safer, Smarter, Simpler home security solution. They do so with a wide range of wireless sensors including window sensors, door sensors, motion sensors, carbon monoxide detectors, and glass break sensors to detect signs of trouble. See below for our Frontpoint Security review or skip to Frontpoint customer reviews below.

Pros

Frontpoint’s Pricing

Frontpoint’s equipment and monitoring cost are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. Frontpoint’s monthly cost ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher-priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation for smart home devices and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only and you need a smartphone mobile device to have access.

Contracts are available for 36 months. There is a 30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Mobile App and Upgraded Technology

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology. The Frontpoint app gives you remote access and lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint’s control panels. Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys’ IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel. New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever. This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera smartphone app and front-facing camera

Easy to Install

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you’ve installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it’s performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint’s Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Positive Frontpoint Reviews

The majority of Frontpoint customers are happy with the product and service they receive. The reviews we have highlight the company’s great customer service:

  • Prompt responses
  • Knowledgable staff who are able to answer questions
  • Personalized attention

Along with customer service, several reviews mention that the DIY system is easy to install and the price is fair for services provided.

Cons

High Upfront Costs

While equipment fees start at $69, they may reach into the $800 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 door and window sensors.

Frontpoint Complaints

The biggest complaint we’ve seen from Frontpoint customers is the contract. Some reviews mention that they didn’t understand all the terms of the contract before signing and that the contract is difficult to cancel (they have to pay 80% of the remaining contract balance). We recommend reading over the entire contract before singing up with Frontpoint. One other point that multiple customers have brought up is that the system has false alarms.

Our Recommendation

We recommend Frontpoint. The company is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their home security system and its devices can’t go wrong. They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top-of-the-line technology and equipment. You can see Frontpoint reviews from real consumers below. Frontpoint vs Simplisafe

The best way to compare Frontpoint and SimpliSafe is to read the customer reviews of each company (we’ve summarized them for you on this page and on SimpliSafe’s page). Frontpoint’s customers rate them higher than SimpliSafe’s –  many of those touch on customer service. With Frontpoint, you don’t have to purchase your equipment upfront, you pay it off monthly. That’s why they have a 3-year contract. With SimpliSafe, you purchase all equipment upfront, so you don’t need a contract for alarm monitoring. We’ve also compared Frontpoint to ADT below (both companies have a 3-year contract, but pricing varies quite a bit).

  Frontpoint Simplisafe ADT
Equipment Upfront $69 - $833 $229 - $1200 Yes; Price Undisclosed
Home Security Monitoring $34.99 $14.99 $27.99 - $52.99

Home Automation Options

Frontpoint has a multitude of home automation options in its “Professional Package”. For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package. With this plan, you’ll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home—whether it’s a matter of security or an environmental threat.  You’ll also be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using the Frontpoint location-based Geo-Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature. You can customize an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm. There is also environmental protection to protect you against Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding. With the Interactive plan, you additionally get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

This Frontpoint package includes a 30-day money-back guarantee trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

However, Frontpoint does not sell the door locks,  or a thermostat, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint’s automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to set up, there are some who may struggle with connecting it to their smart home devices.

I have FrontPoint at my weekend home and at my office for over four years and I have not had any problems and their products perform as advertised and their monitoring service does likewise. I am about to install a third system a different location. I did the two previous installs, took less than an hour, and simple to do. I highly recommend this company.

Not Impressed with trying to talk to representative. Very hard sell and pushy, obviously works on commission. The representative would not stop talking, continued to try and get information, provided a bunch of information that I did not want to hear, just wanted to tell me how great they are.

Once you lock in you get to keep equipment, but can’t use it since you don’t use them to monitor it. You loose you cell phone usage to check your system if you cancel their monitoring.

Had to tell the lady 5 times, I wanted to get off phone and I would get back, she still would not stop talking and kept trying to push me to sign saying she did not understand why I did not want to sign now. I finally had to hang up on her to get off phone.

When the system works, its fine. But in three years I’ve replaced numerous sensors, had false alarms, sensors that don’t report, etc. When I call, I’m asked the same stupid questions and am told to move the panel and that I must have interference. If that’s the problem, how did it work well before? In my opinion, thewireless panel and sensors are crap. I don’t know how this system could work for some one with a big house.
In two months my contract is up, and I’m moving on.

To Date: I have returned the panel once, as well as a light remote device, and replaced sensors.

I have had to make several calls to FrontPoint to trouble shoot devices; this is a lengthy process. I have had two false alarms, both of which my county charges me $75 for a false alarm; FrontPoint would not accept blame for either even though I proved to them that it was because of the main panel; once replaced. I was told that if I sent them proof of the false alarm charges, they’d pay half – to date, I sent one and they have not acknowledge receipt of me sending it; bogus. I dont have time to deal with their inadequacies.

My main concern is NOT just the charges I have to pay, but my family security. The first false alarm was because of the device, the second was the device…the second being that the app and the panel did not sync; that was their excuse, but somehow not their fault.

One person said my dog possibly set it off; a 3 1/2 pound dog setting off a motion detector is silly; unless there are underweight thieves.

There’s a review from Patrick C. that says he was not asked a security pass; twice I’ve not been asked – when I questioned this, I was told that there was no need since I called from a registered phone; this is bogus too.

The customer service is hit or miss; some are pleasant, some are half asleep, some are clueless, some know their stuff.

I agree that they are good until there’s a problem, then its user error or location (I live in a large city, there is no cell problems). To date, they have not accepted any fault, even with the non-working items, its just a “that happens.”

That happens is not acceptable when you’re life is in danger.

My sales rep carefully walked me through the details, making recommendations that would best serve a fairly large home that is nearly all windows. The folks who helped me activate the system were fabulous and knowledgeable. I’ve called two other times with questions and I was able to get right through and they knew their stuff. We had one false fire alarm (my bad…opened up the oven with the broiler on high. They called in about 30 seconds. I couldn’t be happier or feel any more secure.

I had issue with garage door sensor, Front Point was contacted twice about issue and they were very reluctant to send a new sensor. I finally gave up. System is only as good as it’s sensor’s so I’m leary now of a false alarm when I’m away.

The best customer service ever! I’ve had my system just over a year and only have had a few issues with the main system that were corrected. The text messages are sometimes late and my door sensors don’t always register as closed. I know they are because the door chime when the door is opened. I haven’t worked with technical support about that issue as it is so infrequent but is anyoning.

We have had this system for almost a year and have been unable to use it for the past 5 months. We received a bill from the police dept. for 105.00 for false alarms! We didn’t even know they were dispatched 2 of the 3 times because they call from a 1-800 number and don’t leave a message. We were at work and never knew it happened until we got a bill in the mail. Then, Frontpoint ran tests and determined they wouldn’t pay because of where we placed the sensor in the house. I was told not to move the sensor and therefore received the 2 additional false alarms. I am afraid to use the system because the false alarm fee is astronomical for the 4th one and the cancellation fee is 80% of the remaining contract. I am so upset that they blamed us for the placement when I followed the directions in the booklet and we were told to leave the sensor where it was placed. They should take responsibility as they don’t have a professional rep come out and install it. They see it as a positive, but $105.00, I see it as a negative.

We have had our system now for over two years. The added sense of security is priceless. Whenever I’ve encountered a system problem Front Points’s response has has immediate and their customer service has been great. I’ve added equipment to my system over time and their help walking me through setup was flawless.

I have one of the outdoor video cameras as well as door and glass breaker sensors. I have had the system over a year now. I am glad I have not had any intrusions because the wireless camera rarely, if ever, is connected. It is plugged in, connected to ethernet, the wireless network is working but the camera almost always registers as “not connected”. I have run through all of the troubleshooting techniques on line and I still have no operating camera. If my experience is typical, I would advise not investing in the camera.
On the positive side, the indoor sensors were easy to install.

The only thing I don’t like is signing myself into a contract. We were thinking about selling our house and moving into a home with another alarm system that has been paid for the year. In order to break contract it would be in the $800 range. I think that’s outrageous. I could deal with a one year contract. But 3 is crazy.

Great product however would be amazing they could include an auto on/auto off option meaning if we forget to turn on the alarm at night or if your 20 something child comes in after a late night and turns off the alarm to enter the house at 2am but ALWAYS forgets to turn back on. Another example is when the alarm is on and that same 20 something child wakes up to go to the 6a hot yoga class and forgets to turn off the alarm but when she leaves out and closes the door is none the wiser that in 30 seconds from her opening the door the rest of the house gets to hear the alarm go off.

I’m certain I am not the only customer that wishes there was the option included on the app notiications. A FrontPoint competitor that I left to come to FP has this option and it is amazing. Give me a sense of comfort knowing if someone forgets to turn on or off the system setting will keep us safe.

I love Front Point!! It was so easy to get signed up and was a really great value. Also very easy to set up. I needed a company that could do this through cell service because I don’t have a land line or feel that is a very secure way either. They always answer the calls quickly and are so friendly and helpful. My only regret is that I didn’t sign up sooner…before I got robbed!!

My alarm went off while I was at work and they were unable to contact me because my employer blocks cell phone signals, and I work in a busy ER. They did contact the police who were sent in a good time amount. No emergency, turned out a sensor had fallen off the window. But, it did it’s job and they did theirs. Fortunately it was not a real emergency, but if it had been, I feel safer knowing the response is very fast!

It’s a waste of money, and it’s a long contract. I bought this out of impulse the day after my house got broken into. It’s not really a piece of mind, because when it does go off, it takes the cops 30 minutes – 1 hour to get to the house, by the time they arrive, the robbers are already long gone. It’s just not worth paying almost 50 bucks a month for. If you feel like you NEED an alarm, I would suggest only getting one if your town has an actual police department, even then, you would want to know how well the response time is prior to purchasing. For example, I am in riverside county, and we fall under riverside sheriffs, so if a house alarm goes off, they don’t care unless they know FOR SURE some ones life is at risk, otherwise, they will just show up within 30 min. The last time it went off accidently, and I wasn’t aware, the cops came 45 minutes after the alarm went off. You could also purchase a system (that you don’t pay for monthly) that has cameras, or just a camera security system. It would be a much wiser investment, less expensive, and it also intimidates the intruder. No one is going to break into your house if you have four cameras in your front yard?!
