Frontpoint's Pricing: How Much Does Frontpoint Cost?

Frontpoint has a monthly fee of $34.99 to $49.00 per month. Frontpoint also charges an installation and equipment fee starting at $69, depending on which plan you choose.

The company's equipment and monitoring cost are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring.

Frontpoint's monthly cost ranges from $34.99-49.99.

Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher-priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation for smart home devices and video surveillance monitoring.

The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only and you need a smartphone mobile device to have access.

Contracts are available for 36 months. There is a 30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Mobile App and Upgraded Technology

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology.

The Frontpoint app gives you remote access and lets you control your alarm system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet.

In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint's control panels.

Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys' IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel.

New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever.

This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera smartphone app and front-facing security camera

Easy to Install

While the Frontpoint security system may be a DIY installation project, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install.

In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it.

Once you've installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it's performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint's Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Positive Frontpoint Reviews

The majority of Frontpoint customers are happy with the product and service they receive. The reviews we have highlight the company's great customer service:

  • Prompt responses
  • Knowledgeable staff who are able to answer questions
  • Personalized attention

Along with customer service, several reviews mention that the DIY system is easy to install and the price is fair for services provided.

Cons

  • High Upfront Costs
  • Frontpoint Complaints

High Upfront Costs

While equipment fees start at $69, they may reach into the $800 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 door and window sensors. As it stands, the one-time Frontpoint Security Cost may be higher than average.

Frontpoint Complaints

The biggest complaint we've seen from Frontpoint customers is the contract. Some reviews mention that they didn't understand all the terms of the contract before signing and that the contract is difficult to cancel (they have to pay 80% of the remaining contract balance).

We recommend reading over the entire contract before signing up with Frontpoint. One other point that multiple customers have brought up is that the system has false alarms.

Our Recommendation

We recommend Frontpoint. The company is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their home security system and its devices can't go wrong.

They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top-of-the-line technology and equipment. You can see Frontpoint reviews from real consumers below.

Frontpoint vs Simplisafe

The best way to compare the Frontpoint system and SimpliSafe system is to read the customer reviews of each company (we've summarized them for you on this page and on SimpliSafe's page).

Frontpoint has a higher customer satisfaction than SimpliSafe does -  many of those touch on customer service. With Frontpoint, you don't have to purchase your equipment upfront, you pay it off monthly.

That's why they have a 3-year contract. With SimpliSafe, you purchase all equipment upfront, so you don't need a contract for alarm monitoring. We've also compared Frontpoint to ADT below (both companies have a 3-year contract, but pricing varies quite a bit).

Individual Frontpoint Equipment

You can build your own system, or purchase more equipment at the following prices (these prices are unique to Frontpoint and do not necessarily reflect the pricing of any other security company):

Door / Window Sensor — $32.99: Window and door sensors actually include a magnet as well, which is placed on the window with the sensor being placed on the window frame (same placement concept with doors). The connection between the sensor and the magnet breaks when the window or door is opened; this break in the connection is what trips the alarm. There are a variety of different types of window and door sensors. The main distinction is whether the sensor is recessed or surface mounted. The difference between the two is that a recessed door sensor is hidden from view inside drilled holes in the door, frame, or wall. A surface-mounted sensor is visible to everyone.

Motion Sensor — $64.99: There are two different types of motion sensors: active sensors and passive sensors. Active sensors are essentially radar-based motion detectors, which use ultrasonic sound waves that reflect back-and-forth between the surrounding environment and the sensor. This reflection is repeated until interference is detected, tripping an alarm, opening a garage, or even opening a door. Passive sensors utilize either heat sensors or lasers to detect disruptions.

Glass Break Sensor — $74.99: Glass break sensors use microphone and advanced sound technology to detect the frequency of the sound of breaking glass.

Garage Door Sensor — $44.99: These sensors send out an alarm by detecting the tilt angle of a garage door. Garage door sensors generally signal a central monitoring station once the door hits a 45 degree angle.

Carbon Monoxide Sensor — $89.99: These sensors detect the levels of carbon monoxide in your home over time. If these levels increase, an alarm is triggered. You should have at least one carbon monoxide sensor for every floor of your home. If you have a garage attached to your home, you should also place a carbon monoxide detector in your garage. Many people believe that carbon monoxide detectors are not reliable, given the fact that they typically do not trigger until it detects concentrations of 40 PPM for longer than 10 hours.

Flood Sensor — $44.99: Flood sensors may seem redundant. After all, if there's a flood in your home, you'll probably notice it without the sensor. However, flood sensors are useful for those with large homes, for hard to detect leaks, and for homeowners who find themselves travelling for large periods of time.

Smoke / Heat Sensor — $64.99: The benefits of fire, heat, and smoke detectors are obvious. Fires spread quickly and destroy completely, so every second counts when trying to fight fire. Smoke and heat detectors are must-have essential home security devices.

Indoor Camera — $99-199.99: These wireless indoor cameras function through an RG transmitter, which allows them to record and transmit video. Video feed is either stored or viewed live after it is sent to a receiver.

Outdoor Camera — $199.99: Outdoor security cameras use WiFi radio signals to connect to allow you to view, record, and store video feed. You can typically access these videos from your mobile security app.

Skybell Doorbell Camera — $189.99: Doorbell cameras function just like normal outdoor or indoor cameras. They allow you to view and usually speak to people who approach your door and ring your doorbell.

Light Control — $49.99: Light control technology allows the homeowner to turn lights on and off from a distance. You can also time lights to turn on and off at specific times.

Garage Door Remote — $69.99: Allows homeowners to open and close the garage door from a distance.

Smart Lock — $179.99: A smart door lock works through a bluetooth connection between the lock itself and your smartphone. The lock can be timed, locked, and unlocked from your smart home app. Some smart locks will include a keypad, but are not completely necessary.

Home Automation Options

Frontpoint has a multitude of home automation options in its "Professional Package". For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package.

With this plan, you'll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home-whether it's a matter of security or an environmental threat.  You'll also be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using the Frontpoint location-based Geo-Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature. You can customize an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm. There is also environmental protection to protect you against Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding. With the Interactive plan, you additionally get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

This Frontpoint package includes a 30-day money-back guarantee trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

However, Frontpoint does not sell the door locks,  or a thermostat, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint's automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to set up, there are some who may struggle with connecting it to their smart home devices.

I have been a customer now for about 5 years. You need to install the system yourself....in order to acomplish the install you need to be able to pull the backing off adhesive and stick things to doors, windows, and walls. When the home across the street from me got robbed I decided it was time to get an alarm system. I looked into a bunch of different options including big national companies like ADT adm some small local companies. The first big difference was cost. Yes ADT says you get an alarm system installed for $99.... That system is great if you live in a one room studio with no windows. All you get for $99 is a single door alarm, a motion detector, a key chain fob, and the control unit. When I priced out the system I need to cover my home it was going to be well over $1,000 since I wanted contacts for each door and Window. With Frontpoint my system ran me $500. Not cheap, but I added some detectors and water intrusion detectors. Another big difference is the monthly cost to monitor. Once you start adding on fire and water intrusion with the big boys the monthly cost to monitor goes way up.... If you want to get into home automation and that number is insane. My monthly including, security, fire, carbon monoxide. Water intrusion, and home automation is $49. Over the years I have had to call support a few times to add a lock or because I had an issue with a sensor. They have always been great to work with and spent as much time as needed to work through the problem. Over the 5 years I have been with Frontpoint I have had a minimum of 20 friends and family sign up and not one has ever come back to me with an issue or complaint.

When I first moved back into a family home, I experienced a burglary. All of my jewelry gone. I researched the systems out there and found this highly rated, portable, easy to install. I referred a friend and she loves it too. I find the service prompt, polite, patient and professional. Even a technically challenged person can be walked through this system by your staff. My only concern is that it is internet based, so that if that goes down the system might tool. However, any other system is electric based, so any other system is vulnerable as well. I also love the cameras that allow me 24/7 views of my home from anywhere, as well as the app that allows others entry when I am away. I think this is a brilliant system and I will recommend it to anyone who asks. Thank you! Ruth

I contacted Frontpoint after researching on the web and they consistently were ranked number 1 and their customer service was something that was always highlighted as being great. I called and spoke to them and my first impression was that they were very knowledgable an also looking out for me and provided several options. After a few email exchanges I was happy to proceed and it was the same person I had originally spoken to that answered my emails and I signed up with - it was nice to have this continuity. My equipment was delivered on time as expected and was very easy to set up. I did call before activating to get some advise on installation and the team were very helpful and answered my call without a wait. Activation was also simple and quick. After having time to use the web portal and better understand my system, I decided to get some additional equipment and it was just as easy as the first time. The web portal is very simple to use as is their app on my phone. I love the notifications feature that is fully customizable. If you are looking for a complete home security system, look no further than Frontpoint, they have it all - great products, good prices and fantastic customer service.

Front Point is my first alarm system I've ever had. In comparison to other companies, their equipment costs are a little higher, but their monthly fees are lower. The company has good reviews which made it easy for me to select an alarm system. Overall, the DIY set-up was simple. The double-sided adhesive they send is not durable. I'v had a sensor and fire alarm fall, triggering the alarm system to go off. I was immediately contacted by the alarm company and was able to inform them it was a false alarm. On the positive side, I was able to confirm they're effective at monitoring my alarm system. My interaction with their different service areas has been a positive one. Whenever I contact them, they immediately answer my call and address my needs. I'm very pleased I selected Front Point as my security alarm system.

The system is Fantastic & Reliable. I would have given it 10 Stars, but Frontpoint is kinda being left behind in the technology department. For example, other companies have been using touch screen control panels for a long time. Frontpoint just recently got one & it is very expensive (for new & existing customers). This is a minor issue. I would rather have a reliable security system, than a fancy one & Frontpoint definitely delivers on the reliability & ease of setup & use.

I was worried about a DIY system, but Frontpoint made this simple. The instructions were easy to follow and the phone rep talked me through the different features I could add and we came up with the right system, not a system to jack up the price. The app is easy to use and we have it set up so we know who is accessing our house at any time. Heck, I forgot to set the alarm last week and took care of it from a stop light 5 blocks away. I was a fan and a loyal customer for over 5 years. But their horrible customer service and lack of caring last night has reversed my position. I recommend selecting a company more concerned with customer satisfaction. Frontpoint has gotten too big for it's own good -- and no longer cares about the individual customer. Everyone has this technology. So don't let Frontpoint fool you. The only reason to select an alarm company over another is how they treat their customers. Sadly, Frontpoint has lost its way.

I have had the system for a couple of months, and I have had a very good experience with it so far. Easy to set up and customer service is great. Watch for a deal through Angie's List -- that is probably the best way to get it. Also, go a step up and get the remote access. Being able to control your settings through an app on your phone is one of the best things about it. I love that I was able to set everything up myself, and I can expand it, reduce it, and even take it with me if I move. I also like that I know that customer service is there for me and will keep me informed about products and services without a high pressure up sell. All in all, I am a fan.

This is an excellent home security company. I have been a customer since 2013 and it started off great and has continued to exceed my expectations. We started off with the Interactive plan so we could arm and disarm with our iPhones. Its great that we can tell who armed the system, who disarmed, even create a geo-fence so when we leave the house without arming, it sends a reminder! We have since upgraded to the Ultimate for only $5 more and added cameras. Whats great about this company is the service. Any problems are answered within 2 minutes of calling with hardly ever any wait time. They will even help you install components (thermostat, locks, cameras, door sensors, etc) if you bought them off ebay or elsewhere! They also are based in USA so you don't have a language barrier to battle with offshore support offered by other companies. We now have Glass Break sensors in all the bedrooms and main rooms of the house, a motion detector, fire/smoke detectors, door sensors, 6 cameras, and a door lock. And all these components were bought over time, no need to purchase all at once, just buy when you have extra money to invest in your families security. Overall, this company has proved themselves in service and the products are there to back up their original claim of straightforward solutions and reliable home protection, Frontpoint Security.

Frontpoint has been a very wise choice for our home security needs, and since my husband's job requires frequent moving the ease of taking down the system and moving it to a new location has been huge. We have upgraded our system with addition z-wave items (door locks, light switches, and thermostats) and even though we bought the items on Amazon, the company has been very helpful in the pairing of those units to the system, and ensuring they are 'talking' to each other appropriately. Generally speaking I've had a very positive experience with this company. I've owned the system for about a year now, with no equipment issues or anything (well, the adhesive on the motion sensors wasn't strong enough to hold them on the wall, but I just bought some strips from Lowe's and now I have no issues with them). The only false alarms I've had were self-induced (usually from forgetting that I set the alarm and entering from a door that wasn't near the control panel...). For a couple of them I was able to cancel the alarm; for one I didn't disarm the panel before the alarm went to the company and I received a call about it promptly. I've always been asked for my security code when I call, even when calling from a "registered phone number" (which is the number I *always* call from). The phone app has worked with zero issues as well. I do wish the equipment wasn't so expensive, but I did get a significant discount when I bought it (only paid $150 for the system, which included to motion sensors, 6 door sensors, a smoke detector, the control panel, and all the signage - plus the 3-yr contract that everyone has to pay for anyway). I did later buy a couple extra door sensors, and a touch screen panel for the basement door (because I got tired of accidentally setting off my own alarm!). My biggest complaint is billing, and the inability to change your billing method online. I'm active duty military and currently deployed, and changing my billing credit card is kind of a nightmare when I have to call to make the change. Hopefully they can do it online for me before my bill is due in a few days... It seems extremely strange to me that a company based on technology doesn't have online billing options of any kind... and no online "chat with a representative" option, so you have to hope they email you back promptly or else hope you have the ability to call them.

Fine technically, but an extremely dishonest company as per their 3-page extremely fine print contract, which I never saw when ordering the system to be installed at a tenant's request...my electronic signature appears on the contract. That locks me into 3 years of monthly payments with no way to get out...evidently in addition to the tenant's payments! Twice we processed system transfer paperwork, the last through FrontPoint's office...but their contract allows them to choose to ignore it! The tenant took the system with her and is using it in another state...but I still get dunned for payments, which has reached over $900 and was handed to a collection agency. I THINK A SELF CONTAINED SYSTEM IS BY FAR SAFER FOR SECURITY, SYSTEMS DEPENDANT ON LAND LINES AND THE INTERNET ARE DOOMED TO FAIL. THAT DEPENDS ON THEM BEING AVAILABLE. FRONTPOINT MAY BE NEW TO THIS FIELD BUT IT'S BUSINESS MODEL WILL SUCEED, PLEASE STAY THE COURSE!

I changed from another well-known security company whose customer service is horrible at best. Frontpoint reps are not only friendly but well-informed and patient. I did have to pay for some equipment but I didn't mind after the EXTREME frustration I experienced with the other company. Love having the ability to set my system from my phone. Even without the 'senior' discount that was offer by the other company the monthly charge is less. I would certainly recommend this company!

I contracted with Frontpoint to install a security system for my summer house in the Pa. mountains last June. The equipment came very quickly and the installation was simple. Unfortunately the signal was not able to transmit wirelessly to the control center. I tried all 3 wireless companies: Verizon, ATT and T Mobile with no success. I called the company multiple times for help and assistance and each time I talked to a very helpful service representative. As the 30 day trial period was approaching, I decided to terminate the contract because we just couldn't get the system to work. There are alternatives to the wireless system and next spring I will call Frontpoint and try again. When I terminated my contract, I returned the equipment and my credit card was immediately credited. This company has great customer service and I hopefully I can do business with them again. They really do what they say they will. Great Company!

Let me start by saying I'm only one month into my contract. That being said installation was an absolute breez 11 window and door sensors two garage door sensors and two motion sensors all installed in just about 30 min. I also did a lot of research and my intuition continued to push me towards Frontpoint. Using the control panel is also very easy and the customer service rep made sure to walk me through each and every step. There are cheaper providers out there but they don't seem to have the same standards.

HORRIBLE!!! The salesman applied the discounts, got all the information needed to send us the equipment, and everything was "perfect" which he repeated ad nauseum. We signed the agreement and paid the equipment fee. We were suppose to get 15 sensors and motion detectors and received 6! Called back and said there was a mistake and after 45 minutes of typical, "Let me put you on hold and I'll see what I can do.", all they would do is send us the additional PAID FOR equipment for an additional $440. They got a 1 rating from me because they did refund all of my charges and sent a prepaid label to return the equipment shipped. NEVER AGAIN!

Frontpoint allows me to monitor my kids at college and I know when an alarm is active right when they do. I get a text, and a phone call....

I am very disappointed in the customer service provided by FrontPoint Security. Although the agents are very nice, and I understand that they are following a script, the FrontPoint Customer Service Philosophy could use some fine tuning. I have been a customer for 4 years, and with each call to customer service it’s blatantly obvious that FrontPoint Security is solely focused on making as much money as possible. A few months back, I called for a new yard sign because my sign was broken after a bad storm in our area, FrontPoint attempted to charge me for a new sign. Then, they attempted to convince me to extend my contract for 3 more years with the notation that my monthly bill could potentially increase if I didn’t renew my contract. I understand that, but a bill increase would only send me to another company. Where is the value in that? I kindly declined, as I had plans on selling the house. I called to stop my service on December 4th, due to the sale of my house, and the agent suggested that a 30 day notice is required to avoid them charging me for an additional month. Well I was already charged for the month of December on December 1st, which I will not need, but now I’m being charged for the Month of January because I was about 2 days short on a 30 day notice that was likely in the fine print of my contract when I signed up over 4 years ago. Prior to me being made aware of the expectation of additional charges for the months that will not be used, the agent attempted to get me to sign a 3 year contract for my new home contract, and offered me 6 months free. I kindly declined and let her know that I would certainly revisit this in 6 months once we are closer to finishing construction. On the basis that FrontPoint finds more value in ‘nickel and diming’ their loyal customers, I WOULD NEVER CONSIDER USING FRONTPOINT SERVICES IN THE FUTURE. Take your $42.99 that you will deduct from my account on January 1st, and I will keep the thousands of dollars that I would have spent on my monitoring service over the course of 15+ years once my new construction was complete. Customer Service and retention is such a joke these days. The Service provided does not match the true definition of Customer Service, and FrontPoint really puts its agents at a disadvantage when they require them to follow these ridiculous guidelines for getting that last penny out of the customer. I must say that the agents that I’ve dealt with are VERY pleasant, but obviously reading from a script. My experience in no way is to attack any of the agent’s characters, as I understand that they do have a job to do and guidelines to follow, but I do think that the company should really reevaluate their customer retention policies. I would gladly pay more money for the service, if the customer value was evident and there was no question about whether I am valued as a customer. This is across the board in ALL service industries. Kind regards, Ms. Ware
