Pros

Frontpoint's Pricing

Frontpoint's equipment and monitoring cost are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. Frontpoint's monthly cost ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher-priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation for smart home devices and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only and you need a smartphone mobile device to have access.

Contracts are available for 36 months. There is a 30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Mobile App and Upgraded Technology

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology. The Frontpoint app gives you remote access and lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint's control panels. Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys' IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel. New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever. This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera smartphone app and front-facing camera

Easy to Install

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you've installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it's performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint's Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Positive Frontpoint Reviews

The majority of Frontpoint customers are happy with the product and service they receive. The reviews we have highlight the company's great customer service:

  • Prompt responses
  • Knowledgable staff who are able to answer questions
  • Personalized attention

Along with customer service, several reviews mention that the DIY system is easy to install and the price is fair for services provided.

Cons

High Upfront Costs

While equipment fees start at $69, they may reach into the $800 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 door and window sensors.

Frontpoint Complaints

The biggest complaint we've seen from Frontpoint customers is the contract. Some reviews mention that they didn't understand all the terms of the contract before signing and that the contract is difficult to cancel (they have to pay 80% of the remaining contract balance). We recommend reading over the entire contract before singing up with Frontpoint. One other point that multiple customers have brought up is that the system has false alarms.

Our Recommendation

We recommend Frontpoint. The company is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their home security system and its devices can't go wrong. They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top-of-the-line technology and equipment. You can see Frontpoint reviews from real consumers below. Frontpoint vs Simplisafe

The best way to compare Frontpoint and SimpliSafe is to read the customer reviews of each company (we've summarized them for you on this page and on SimpliSafe's page). Frontpoint's customers rate them higher than SimpliSafe's -  many of those touch on customer service. With Frontpoint, you don't have to purchase your equipment upfront, you pay it off monthly. That's why they have a 3-year contract. With SimpliSafe, you purchase all equipment upfront, so you don't need a contract for alarm monitoring. We've also compared Frontpoint to ADT below (both companies have a 3-year contract, but pricing varies quite a bit).

Home Automation Options

Frontpoint has a multitude of home automation options in its "Professional Package". For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package. With this plan, you'll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home-whether it's a matter of security or an environmental threat.  You'll also be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using the Frontpoint location-based Geo-Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature. You can customize an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm. There is also environmental protection to protect you against Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding. With the Interactive plan, you additionally get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

This Frontpoint package includes a 30-day money-back guarantee trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

However, Frontpoint does not sell the door locks,  or a thermostat, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint's automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to set up, there are some who may struggle with connecting it to their smart home devices.

I moved after two years using the Front Point System. I tried on multiple occasions to cancel or pay for early termination of contract, they forced me into a 3 year contract, and I had no luck with cancellation. I spoke to multiple people at Frontpoint, they are nice until you try to cancel. I have tried all the normal means of resolving this issue to no avail. Buyer beware.

A few months ago, I would have given FrontPoint a 10. We used their service for 5 years in our last house, and had 0 issues with the system which covered two buildings. Their customer service was always excellent - prompt, and always solved the minor issues we called about. We installed the same equipment in our new home, and again had the same positive experience. Except the sales person we dealt with talked us into purchasing another panel, while we waited for their touch screen panel to ship. We waited for months, and finally found out that they had discontinued this new panel, and now has a new Hub product. We had to pay for that, even though we paid for the older panel which we had to ship back. I was very disappointed in the way we were treated. Since installing the new hub, we have had several false alarms, and the sensors are behaving erratically. I had to reposition most of the sensors, and have had to call support multiple times - they tell me that there are no problems with the hub, but why am I experiencing the sensor issues when all I’ve changed is the hub? If we continue to have these issues, I may wind up dropping FrontPoint.

When I first joined, their "easy to install" devices weren't working so I had to wait for them to send me some other stuff. Then I cancelled within the trial period because I wasn't happy and they charged me 80% of the 3 year agreement total because apparently the equipments had to be returned within the trial period too which none of the people I talked when cancelling told me about. They do everything they can to make you join but once you decide to leave they do everything they can to charge you.Nat

Cancellation of service was a nightmare. I was billed an additional two months for because they require 30 days of cancellation and if your notice of cancellation falls in the middle of their billing cycle you'll get hit for another month. When I first tried to cancel, my cancellation order wasn't even processed until I called to complain about the extra billing on my credit card. I spoke to an individual named Ryan F who was rude and refused to transfer me to any other representatives. When I requested to speak to a supervisor, he refused stating that he was the only person I could speak to. BEWARE WITH SHADY COMPANIES LIKE THIS ONE WHO PENALIZE CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY CANCEL THEIR SERVICE!!!! I simply needed to cancel because the home I purchased already had a security system and I no longer needed their services. I was a customer for over three years with no issues when it came to the system. However, their cancellation policy and how the treat customers over the phone is atrocious.

It's 2019 and I get a lot of spam/robocalls. I usually delete robo voicemails unheard but I decided to finally listen to one from a number that kept calling. It was Frontpoint telling me "my account needs updated". I then realized I had a new debit card number and they needed it. This is their business model, no letters, no calls from a real person, no emails, just robo voicemails. I decided to do some Googling and realized that FrontPoint was one of the most expensive alarm systems and this was their definition of "customer service". I purchased a new, much cheaper alarm system (with the same features) and installed it. I called FrontPoint to cancel and they told me the same thing you'll read in other reviews online. FrontPoint requires a "30 Day Cancellation Notice". This means that even though the alarm is sitting in a box next to my garbage can, I'll still be paying for service for 30 days after I "cancel". The person on the phone kept trying to rationalize "the monitoring is in place and we pre pay for it so it's there whether you use it or not" as if that makes me feel better about giving you $44 more for nothing. Making the last exchange with a customer unpleasant is a sure fire way to get bad reviews and close that door forever. It would be very easy to just wrap it up and say have a nice day. I recommend steering clear of this company and their "squeeze every last dollar out" practices. Since the last exchange I've had daily email dialogue where Frontpoint refuses to give me the total amount and due date to finalize my service in writing. They require me to cancel in writing but won't give me something to dispute later should they try to keep charging me (which many online reviews say they do). A lawyer friend advised me to get this in writing and not call in but every time I contact them via email or support form, they call me or tell me to call them. The extra month of billing and reluctance to provide a final bill with a due date in writing seems unethical and possibly illegal.

This is literally the worst company I have dealt with. We were offered 60 days risk free trial period. At no point during the signing up process, the salesperson explained to us that the mobile app, which remotely controls the system, was NOT included in our monthly contract. In order to use that feature, we will have to pay $10 more each month (which we found out as soon as the trial period ended). The tricky part of the company's sale practice is that no customer would find out that the app isn't actually included until the trial period ends just so to make sure that the customers are stuck with a system that they cannot use effectively unless they pay more. We repeatedly contact the business trying to cancel the contract but they wouldn't allow it unless we pay 80% of the remaining contract and also wouldn't allow us to return the equipment (even though they admitted to the misleading sales practice in writing). We have been trying to speak with the company for the past 6 months but it led no where. The company would promise to call and never call. Stay away from FrontPoint if you can!

Buyer beware!!! AVOID AVOID AVOID! We had frontpoint for about a year and a half and entered into a long term contract as they had excellent ratings. Sadly the system did not work for us because of the lengthy delay in calling after an alarm sounds. Did not feel secure!!! The company waits for the alarm to be going off for a minimum 30 seconds and then will attempt to reach you prior to calling police. This ends up being a delay of calling police of several minutes. I had never heard of this as with other companies we had a call the minute the alarm went off we were receiving a call from the alarm company to see if it was a false alarm or if we need it immediate help. We live in a major city and safety is the main reason for having this. Several minutes is way too long. We discussed this with frontpoint customer service and expressed our dissatisfaction and were told at that point that there was nothing they could do. After much back-and-forth we elected to cancel the service and paid a hefty over $600 fee to cancel. After paying that penalty we were still charged another month fee because they reported receiving the email one day after the new cycle I had an alarm we were not using for six months at that point. When we brought this to their attention they refused to return the fee. They will do everything possible to discount and GET your service. But when it comes to helping you after they tell you to bad you’re in a contract. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

I’ve had FrontPoint for about three years. Overall, I’ve been pretty disappointed. The hardware is really mediocre. I’ve had to send multiple sensors back because they either never worked, or stopped working after a few months. Just recently, one of my motion sensors began malfunctioning. Now every other day, I get another false alarm, which has caused me to stop using the system altogether while I wait for a new part to ship out. The software is also clunky. Although I’ve never had problems with the app, the in-house LED monitor malfunctions a lot, resetting suddenly on its own, and even triggering the alarm on Stay Mode (when the motion sensors are off and you can walk around the house). To top it all off, the customer service is no longer as good as it was when I first purchased the system. For example, when an alarm occurs now, I get an automated message. Honestly, this is insane. When my alarm is triggered, I want a human being on the other line calling me to see if I need help, not an automated system asking me to press “1” or “2”. When my contract is up next month, I’ll be canceling my FP service. For nearly $50/month, I expect a much better product and much more effective customer service.

When I first got the system, I found it easy to install and setup. From there it worked flawlessly for a few weeks. Then I started having issues with sensors and the control panel. After dozens of calls and literally 40-50 hours on the phone with them, I'm finally writing a review. I always try to allow businesses to redeem their mistakes, as I'm also a business person and would hope for the same opportunity. If you look at my other reviews, I give a mostly 4-5 star ratings. I don't recall EVER giving a 1 star before, so it must be pretty bad. Frontpoint Security is by FAR the worst alarm system I have EVER worked with, and I have worked with dozen in my career. I believe all but one sensor has had to be replaced at least once. Some sensors have been replaced three to four times. The complete head unit has been replaced too. When they replaced the head unit, it was downgraded in capabilities, yet I was told if I didn't send the old unit back, I'd be charged several hundred dollars. When I call tech support, I get the run around as to why the system won't work in my 596 square foot building. If the sensors can't work with direct line of site from at worst case 26' 1" away, how can it be expected to protect a home or larger business. I've now been fighting this system for nearly 2 1/2 years. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in a three years contract, which I've asked them to consider letting me out of since their system doesn't work for me. They are not being flexible at all, and I'm now looking to get another alarm company in to protect my premises, and will just pay-off the rest of my contract. I strongly urge you to RESEARCH before choosing an alarm company, and if you go with Frontpoint, I hope you don't run into the same issues I had.

It called the police for us once. That was good. Turns out the sensor was just too cold. Embarrasing. Everything else sucks too. The door sensors were ok at best. Yes, I installed them correctly FrontPoint. The motion sensors are completely worthless if it gets to humid or cold in your garage. They have about a one month life span and keep constantly setting off the alarm. Did you know that some people don’t have heated garages frontpoint? The control panel has a battery in it. Rechargeable right? No. Let your system come unplugged for a night and endure what comes next. Constant low battery warnings on the app. If it is rechargeable then it doesn’t work like advertised. What I have mentioned thus far would still allow a mediocre rating but the customer service blows. Try calling at midnight to get a new battery sent to your house for the control panel. You will be disappointed. Security is important but not to them. Our house flooded and we had to evacuate. Keep in mind our house is ruined. We wanted to cancel the last 4 months of our contract. That might seem a little shady to a person who doesn’t have a heart. We have years of financial difficulties ahead of us now and FrontPoint can’t let 4 measly months of payments go. That’s cold hearted. Thanks for nothing.

This company (Frontpoint) has somehow spammed the internet search with 5 to 4 star rating, this must be fake. I was actually searching for people who have trouble with their system with this company and "Google" turned up a whole page of 5 star reviews instead. Don't get suckered in, when I was searching for a security company, I thought WOW this company must be amazing when I saw these reviews too. Things to be aware of: 1. They will give you a 30 day free trial but at the end of that if you go with them, it is a 2 year contract. 2. There is "NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT", literally none. The equipment belongs to you from day 1 and anything happens, they are not responsible for it. There will be no technician to come out to your home like the major companies to help you with the sensors or panels. I had to talk to this girl that had a major attitude who knows nothing about alarms that was just reading from a script. I was telling her that for over a 1 year and so I have had zero problems with the system period but suddenly, my sensor"s" all started to go off by themselves at random when I arm them. The rep. kept telling me to test the sensors, and I did. It took 4 days for them to come back and tell me what I already know, no problem with it. The method was for "me" to hide this senor in a drawer while they deactivated to see if anything trigger it - not a very intelligent test given my problem. I even had other sensor that went off which I complaint bitterly to the rep. that call to confirm the alarm; when I spoke to the "tech" rep. she had no idea I even had another event. I am still trying to figure out what is wrong and I am trying all kinds of things like moving the sensors and testing the system on my own - YOU ARE THE TECH. 3. The base plan with Front point is over $40 compare to other major security companies this is highway robbery. I thought I was going to get better equipment and services but in the end, I am only giving money to a company that hires a bunch of useless telephone reps. 4. You have to install it yourself, so anything goes wrong, they say it is your fault. Only good thing about this is that if you are in a real rush and I was, this is your best option. Security is no joke, don't do this, you'll regret it. 5. They will bend over backward for you on delivery and getting options etc. but that is it. After that you got nothing, no support. 6. I am canceling this circus and going with one of the majors, good luck all.

I live in Canada and thought I was making the right choice choosing frontpoint security. The sales person told me that they have all the functionality of all the big alarm companies in regards to alarm and automation. No they do not. It was a total lie and their equipment is sub par at best. The panel is from 1980. The cameras take multiple hrs to setup. They charge me as a Canadian in US dollars. This isn't in their contract and won't adjust it. They charge for all the shipping of their equipment to head back south of the border. They do reimburse you but not with interest. They took 65 days to refund me $165 USD. Alarm system is crap. You can't write rules for alarm times, you don't know when doors have been left ope, you can't open automated door locks unless it's their door lock. They discussed this with me at purchase they can open and enable any door lock like the one I listed from my previous alarm company. I want out of my contract for the lies and sub par equipment. The alarm system doesn't function the way I was told it would. All their reviews are 5 stars or 10 stars.... They obviously manipulate the ratings, which is even worse as a consumer. I hope this review gets the attention of someone at Frontpoint security. I want out of this commitment and contract without the bs penalties. I'll be glad to send all your equipment back the way I received it, so I can go back to Roger's.

I have been trying for months to cancel my service. I have now been transferred twice while waiting for someone to address my issue. Their way of keeping customers on the hook for the security system is by sending you in circles and telling them I am not speaking with the right person to cancel. They have records of my attempt to cancel in writing and via phone call in their records. However, they continuously bill me and send threating phone calls to me and let me know they are not going to help me. The service was just so so. I called to cancel and was told that I had a multi-year agreement after I had been with the company for over two years. Every time I call to cancel, I'm told there are four more months left on my policy. No matter when I call, I'm always told that it's four more months. The customer service people are terrible to deal with and do not record all calls. They also refuse to send customers to their supervisors when asked.

Front point service has been a decent service. As far as there security indoor security camera has been a problem since day one. Poor quality and will not stay connected to the access point for viewing.
