Pros

Frontpoint's Pricing

Frontpoint's equipment and monitoring cost are competitive with other leading security companies. Frontpoint home security offers monitoring services in three packages from which customers may choose: protection monitoring, interactive monitoring, and ultimate monitoring. Frontpoint's monthly cost ranges from $34.99-49.99. Frontpoint security systems are all 100% cellular monitoring services, with the higher-priced option offering additional add-ons like home automation for smart home devices and video surveillance monitoring. The mobile app is included in the Interactive and Ultimate plan only and you need a smartphone mobile device to have access.

Contracts are available for 36 months. There is a 30-day, risk-free trial. If you are unhappy with your alarm systems you may get your money back.

Mobile App and Upgraded Technology

Frontpoint also makes a diligent effort to constantly improve their technology. The Frontpoint app gives you remote access and lets you control your system from anywhere using your mobile phone or tablet. In addition to the mobile app, technology advances extend to Frontpoint's control panels. Current customers have the opportunity to upgrade their existing Simon XT control panel to the Qolsys' IQ Touch-Screen Control Panel. New customers now also have the option to purchase the Touch-Screen control panel as a way to upgrade and receive the latest home security technology. This control panel creates an interface that makes full-system functionality easier to navigate than ever. This control panel is compatible with all existing Frontpoint sensors and is designed to support the newest technological advancements made in sensors and monitoring. The features of this updated control panel include:

  • 7-inch LCD resistive touchscreen (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Capable of supporting up to 39 sensors
  • 91 dBa internal siren
  • 24-hour lithium-ion backup battery
  • Tabletop stand and wall mount kit
  • SD card slot & customizable photo frame screensaver
  • Weather application included
  • Camera smartphone app and front-facing camera

Easy to Install

While the system may be DIY, hundreds of happy customers have testified how easy it is to install. In addition, Frontpoint configures the system to your home before shipping it. Once you've installed the system, a quick call to Frontpoint will activate it and make sure it's performing properly, or you can use their new self-activation process provided in the box. To top it off Frontpoint's Monitoring Center is one of the highest-rated monitoring facilities in the country based on unbiased reviews.

Positive Frontpoint Reviews

The majority of Frontpoint customers are happy with the product and service they receive. The reviews we have highlight the company's great customer service:

  • Prompt responses
  • Knowledgable staff who are able to answer questions
  • Personalized attention

Along with customer service, several reviews mention that the DIY system is easy to install and the price is fair for services provided.

Cons

High Upfront Costs

While equipment fees start at $69, they may reach into the $800 if you chose to upgrade packages. For example, a base package includes 3 door and window sensors.

Frontpoint Complaints

The biggest complaint we've seen from Frontpoint customers is the contract. Some reviews mention that they didn't understand all the terms of the contract before signing and that the contract is difficult to cancel (they have to pay 80% of the remaining contract balance). We recommend reading over the entire contract before singing up with Frontpoint. One other point that multiple customers have brought up is that the system has false alarms.

Our Recommendation

We recommend Frontpoint. The company is one of the best in customer service, and anybody looking to use their home security system and its devices can't go wrong. They provide great customer service, no hidden fees, 30-day risk-free guarantee, and top-of-the-line technology and equipment. You can see Frontpoint reviews from real consumers below. Frontpoint vs Simplisafe

The best way to compare Frontpoint and SimpliSafe is to read the customer reviews of each company (we've summarized them for you on this page and on SimpliSafe's page). Frontpoint's customers rate them higher than SimpliSafe's -  many of those touch on customer service. With Frontpoint, you don't have to purchase your equipment upfront, you pay it off monthly. That's why they have a 3-year contract. With SimpliSafe, you purchase all equipment upfront, so you don't need a contract for alarm monitoring. We've also compared Frontpoint to ADT below (both companies have a 3-year contract, but pricing varies quite a bit).

Home Automation Options

Frontpoint has a multitude of home automation options in its "Professional Package". For $49.99/month customers receive the Frontpoint home automation and video monitoring on top of the basic security package. With this plan, you'll be notified immediately of any alarm activity within the home-whether it's a matter of security or an environmental threat.  You'll also be reminded if you leave without arming your system, using the Frontpoint location-based Geo-Services.

An excellent offer that comes with this program is the light control feature. You can customize an on/off schedule or set lights to trigger automatically in reaction to a sensor alarm. There is also environmental protection to protect you against Carbon Monoxide (CO), extreme temperatures, or flooding. With the Interactive plan, you additionally get sensors and thermostats to guard against these calamities.

This Frontpoint package includes a 30-day money-back guarantee trial period, free text and email notifications, and the option to do self-installation.

However, Frontpoint does not sell the door locks,  or a thermostat, etc. The reason for this is that the Frontpoint home automation system is a self-setup, so it can be difficult for someone to install their own locks and thermostats so they operate correctly.

Another potential issue for many is that Frontpoint's automation system is a self-setup system. While the system is generally simple to set up, there are some who may struggle with connecting it to their smart home devices.

We decided to change security systems due to finding a new security system that ties in with Alexa and was much less expensive. Today, I made 4 calls and spent 45-60 minutes trying to disconnect service. One representative couldn't find my information and that took 15 minutes, another time I was hung up on after they attempted to transfer my call, another time they said they were experiencing a high volume of calls and had me enter in my phone # for a call back (but they never called back). Finally, they asked for a phone password (which I had given previously to another representative) and said I was not correct. So now I have to wait and ask my husband the phone password and try all over again tomorrow. I'm ready to dispute this charge with my credit card company instead of trying this again. We have had the security system for 5 or more years...the alarm has only been triggered once that required a security officer to come and it was about 45 minute wait time (in a relatively small city). The new system has a smaller keypad to set the alarm each evening and it is portable...so no more eyesore sitting out on our counter top. We save about $20 each month with the new system so in about 2 years it will have paid for the new setup and we will begin saving money.

They don't deliver what they say they will, customer service is horrible, and the cancellation policy is robbery. Don't make the mistake of signing up with them. I got burglarized several months ago, and their security monitoring service was way over 2 hours late. Due to a different emergency, the police was 2 hours late. They, however, finished their investigation and report before Cintas actually got there. When Cintas came, they saw the cops and just left without even approaching us or letting us know they were here. A supervisor basically blamed the contracted company and never got back to me with any follow-up. When I wanted to quit, I was told that I can't cancel on a Holiday. I called and left a message with them during the week (they operate on Eastern Time from 10 to 7, and I work during these hours) letting them know my dilemma. They never got back to me. I called again on a Saturday, and was told that I was being transferred to someone who can help me cancel my account. I was on hold for 30 minutes. I called from another line (I didn't want to lose my call), and told another customer service representative what was going on, and he told me that nobody on the weekend works in that dept, and that nobody was there--he basically told me that the other guy who transferred me must have not known this and transferred me to an empty office. I called again on Monday on my day off, and spoke to a senior account specialist. He was trying to keep me by offering various discounts, free camera, etc., but it was too little and too late. Now get this... I am quitting this service because they were not able to fulfill their part of the deal, and now the senior specialist was saying I need to pay for this month (I have been actively trying to cancel since Sept. 3rd) AND October! What a racket!!!!!! If a company has to do this, they are definitely SHADY! STAY AWAY! The equipment sucks too. I got false alerts, and the base malfunctioned and started a fire warning alert for no reason. There are way better systems out there that won't try to rob you from the inside. Do your research.

Please beware of shady FrontPoint Security cancellation policy. I was with this company for over six and a half years. As new technology came out, I decided to switch over to something that made more sense for my family. I figured it would be no big deal to call and cancel the service. To my surprise, i waited on hold for almost 35 minutes to speak with someone in the cancellation Department. Upon speaking with Alain H, he informed me that I would have to respond to an e-mail to cancel the service. I went ahead and replied to the email while on the phone with him. He then proceeded to inform me that although it was September 4, 2018 I was going to be billed the rest of September and October as they need 30 days notice to cancel service. I asked who is it that I can speak to to have the charges waived. He informed me that there was no supervisor available to speak to and said that he can leave a message and they would get back to me in 72 hours. The company basically tried to squeeze me out of $86 for services that were not rendered. I will be contacting the Attorney General's office and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau to inform them about their deceitful business practices when cancelling an account. In addition, I was currently paying $43 per month with FrontPoint Security and the ring alarm system provides the same exact service with live monitoring for $10. They went ahead and tried to keep me as a customer and offered to lower the bill to $33 per month, in which I told him I was not interested. I just want make every consumer aware of Frontpoint Security deceitful cancellation policy.

I've been stuck with Frontpoint for almost 3 years and it's been a complete nightmare. I've had to replace the smoke and water sensors as well as the video camera and the new ones still malfunction on a regular basis. I've stopped arming the system because of the false alarms and number of times I receive calls from the monitoring company. I thought this was supposed to give me piece of mind but it's just the opposite. Cant wait until I can dump this system.

I strongly suggest you do not use frontpoint. I wrote more on other sites, but short story since moving to Google Nest I am much happier at a lower cost point. Frontpoint didn't work, and the HW is problematic. I finally gave up after a year, and did make calls to try to address but they are more focused on putting bandaids on the problem vs. fixing.

I signed up for Frontpoint and I installed the system as a first time home buyer. The system itself was good and the customer service was good. I sold my house and moved into a condo with 24hr security. When I called to cancel the service they said I signed up for a 3 year plan and I had to pay all the months of service regardless if I am using the system or not. I thought I signed a 1 year plan. Please be careful of the deceptive contracts. I am planning on buying a house in a year and I was going to use Frontpoint and I have friends who are young professionals who are buying houses who have asked for my advice and I cannot recommend Frontpoint. With so many security options to choose from, Frontpoint has lost my futures business as well as my friends.

After several issues with sensors not fitting or performing as expected I cancelled my contract. The door sensors had to be drilled as the door molding prevented the sensors from operating effectively. The fire detector only worked well for the first 60 days. After that, we received constant error messages. With the onerous contract and poor sensor quality, I seriously recommend finding a better vendor.

I have had Frontpoint for 18 months, and finally just cancelled to move to a simpler system which does what it describes for much less money. The Frontpoint system initially looked good, nice app, nice words, but over the course of 18 months the system went down, doors went out of detection, but one of the real problems is that it just doesn't work. I have had multiples false alarms, and the headquarters doesn't receive them. They have never called back, I call into the system and tell them it is false and it is like "we didn't receive it." I allowed one to go through for over 10 minutes and nothing. I call into their customer service and they just ping you between multiple people; they say it works but then it doesn't. They will happily give you more detectors to show that they mean well, but in the end the system doesn't work so why do it. When you want to cancel, they will force you to pay hefty fees. This is what bothers me, the amount they charge above and beyond initial equipment and it doesn't work ... they don't test it, they don't validate it, they just say "give me more money." It is a system designed to take more and more money from you with little benefit beyond an alert when the door opens and closes. Other systems like do that much better for much cheaper.

Ive been a customer for almost 4 years now. Last year i upgraded to the touch screen panel. Ever since my upgrade i have had issues with one sensor giving false notifications on none at all. I called their technical support over a dozen times in past year about this sensor location. This had to be replace 3x in year and a half. Each time I had to spend 60 -90 min on the phone explaining to them what they already know... the have the sensor report showing all the errors. Recently this sensor begin sending the same error message to our cell phone over 100x in one day. I telephoned support again, and was told that my sensor was out of warranty. To my suprise... This sensor is less than 6 mos old! They advised that the warranty is for my system not individual sensor. So lets do the math. Been a customer almost 4 years, have had 2 panels, and 3 replacement sensors, but I'm of warranty??? I have had 3 false alarm do to system malfunction, in which the police responded. I have 100s of bad notifications which causes my family anxiety, because you never know when the notification is real or just ANOTHER false alarm. So this last time I called I was told they'd give me a new sensor for free and that they were doing me a favor. They also gave me one month free monitoring... This system is garbage! The customer support is worthless! You'll find better out there. I can't wait to get out of this contract!

My house is out of town and the cameras (three of them) rarely work. I have talked extensively numerous times with Frontpoint and the local wifi company. Frontpoint directed me to a web site to measure the speed of our wifi service. It was determined that drop speed is the reason my reasons do not work. I sent a letter to the local wifi company and they promptly sent me a letter back telling me that's all they have to offer outside town and that if I don't like it they will gladly cancel my service. We also didn't want an outside company viewing us and our family inside our home. We love Frontpoint, because we'll get a call from their customer support asking how we're doing, and we really appreciate that. It's easy to use, and only took about 2-3 hours to install using their simple instructions. None of the parts were missing when we installed it. I also like the green color of the whole kit. I repeated numerous times that I only wanted to cancel the service. The representative kept ignoring what I said and went back to the sales pitch. I finally hang up. Then they kept billing me for the service. When I called to find out why they representative said it was because I hang up. So basically you cannot cancel the service as they will only repeat the sales pitch over and over.

READ THE CONTRACT FINE PRINT We have had Frontpoint security system for our home for the past two years and it worked well for the first year, but recently, we have been getting multiple false alarms. After working with the Frontpoint service folks over the phone multiple times, we were still not able to identify what was setting off the false alarms and they continued. Due to the multiple false alarms, the City began charging us for each alarm. Between the service charges, and the City assessment fees due to the false alarms, we chose to move away from FrontPoint as a home security solution. Here is where they have you; the three year contract is not over, so they request 80% of the remaining monthly billing as a cancellation fee, even though they are not able to fix their own system. If you want to just wait out the contract and make the monthly payments, there is no way to cancel the contract in advance after the three years contract is expired. They require you to call after the three year contract has expired and to then call to cancel. Don't forget that the cancelation must be done in writing. Technology moved so fast these days, and a three year contract seems a bit long in keeping up with changing technology. Although I am frustrated with Frontpoint as a business, I feel sorry for the employees who work for this organization. Most workers would like to feel proud of the services and products they provide, but I don't know how anyone could feel proud about the service levels and contracts that Frontpoint enforces.
