Pros

Guardian Alarm Company's basic home security $24.95 monthly monitoring fee competes with rates from top home security companies. This is an internet special only. Other home security system packages are a bit pricier. The company offers a wide variety of home security and home automation features that are better than most. In addition to door and window sensors, touchscreen panels, glass break sensors, and motion detectors, Guardian Alarm Company also provides top-of-the-line indoor and outdoor security cameras. Depending on the security package, customers can receive high-resolution video surveillance cameras with bulletproof casings, 360-degree rotation, night vision, and digital video recording. Guardian Alarm Company will store up to 800 video monitoring clips of up to two minutes each, one month of continuous recording, and six-month video storage. For the homeowners, smart home Guardian security systems are easy-to-use systems that include a 7" touchscreen, digital frame control panel that allows you to mechanize all aspects of your home. Some systems enable energy-savings in addition to providing superior protection.

Home Automation

For further peace of mind, customers will also receive a number of home automation options with Guardian Alarm Company. Through Guardian Alarm Company's desktop or mobile app, users can control heating and cooling, ceiling fans and shades, lights, locks, and garage doors remotely. Users can also receive real-time email and text alerts, aside from the mobile app, when an alarm is triggered.

Response Time

Guardian Alarm Company monitoring services boast an incredibly fast average response time of 15 seconds. That includes alarm responses to both life-threatening medical emergencies, as well as property intrusions from the monitoring center. A chief complaint about the home security industry is slow response times, so if Guardian Alarm is accurate in this claim, the company has a major advantage over competitors. Additionally, Guardian Alarm provides superior customer service where customers do not have to go through an automated phone system. Guardian claims that a live person will always pick up the phone.

GPS Tracking

Additionally, Guardian Alarm Company allows you to track assets such as vehicles or other large equipment using GPS tracking devices. These devices provide real-time location data of your lost or stolen property and are a feature offered by very few home security companies.

Cons

Even the base Guardian Alarm home security system package and monitoring services are more expensive than most. While most home security companies will provide home automation standard for a small additional fee, Guardian Alarm Company will charge up to $59.95 a month for home automation - over twice the amount other companies will charge you for the same features. And while the company claims free installation and 24/7 support with any basic service plan and base equipment, customers will be required to pay for installation with more comprehensive service plans (including those with home automation capabilities). It appears equipment such as window sensors, motion detectors, thermostats, smoke detector, locks or video monitoring security cameras may be purchased separately or in separate packages. Prices are undisclosed.

If you are signing up for a deal with Guardian, make sure to have the advertisement in hand when the consultant arrives at your home. Some customers have reviewed the company online and while the service is impeccable, the sales team will try to up-sell you and keep you from valuable savings that are offered by the corporate team. Also when signing a contract make sure to be aware that there is an automatic renewal clause; if you are not interested in a second year, make sure to contact customer service and notify them.

Our Recommendation

Guardian Alarm Company offers a number of useful home security features (including some impressive high-end security cameras) as well as home automation devices to help you protect and monitor your home remotely. Unfortunately, to get access to some of these luxury features, considered standard by industry leaders, customers will likely have to pay a price much higher than the advertised $24.95 a month. Customers also need to be aware that Guardian Alarm Company included an automatic renewal clause on its contracts effective at the first contract's expiration, so customers not wishing to continue services will have a short window of time in which to notify the company.

I have had service through Guardian Alarm for several years....dating back to when the company was still owned and operated by the original owners. During that time, not only was my monthly alarm service coverage perfect, but any time that I needed service on my system, the service personnel and the process were nothing short of perfection....courteous, professional, knowledgeable, prompt and communicative. Since the company has changed ownership, I've had nothing but issues. Numerous missed service appointments, on their part, which leave me waiting around the house for the 4 hour service time window, only to have no one show up. Cancelled scheduled service appointments, on their part. I have also had their service people show up at the wrong time...I was scheduled for service between 5 and 8 PM...A service technician showed up just after 12 o'clock saying he had come for scheduled service. Thankfully, due to my RING doorbell camera system, I was able to speak with him and explain that no one was scheduled to come until later that day. At that time he apologized and said that he would have someone return at the appropriate time. I then received a phone call from the office, stating that the part necessary for service had been ordered, and that they would contact me when the part arrived, to schedule a service appointment..Excuse me?! How could you possibly know what part is needed for service when no one actually came into my house to determine what the problem was?! They then scheduled another service appointment... Which no one showed up for!! If I could give a negative star review, I would. Unfortunately, with the original owners gone, the company is just not the same. The new owners are just out to make money. They have no regard for their clients once contracts have been signed, and pay no attention to service. Very very sad considering what the original owners put into the company to make it what it was.

As far as equipment we have had very little issues, however the last time they came out was to check the installation of the video doorbell and then found out a year later that they entered us in to a 3 year contract. We are selling our house and now they tell me I’m stuck in the contract and have to transfer service to the new house. There has got to be something illegal and underhanded here. I shouldn’t be forced to carry on a contract that I can’t use after I move. I can’t believe that with all the complaints about mishandled billing practices that they haven’t been shut down because of consumer complaints.

WE were with Guardian Alarms for years. They did not call and advise us update the system, therefore we had no reason to think about any problem. Recently , our phone system began to disrupt. When I called the Spectrum phone service, they came out and informed us that the alarm wire system was the cause of our phone service. As a result of Guardian Alarms old.,outdated wires that were attached to our phone system, our phone service person had to rewire our entire phone system. II called customer service at Guardian and the agents were really arrogant and nasty. I told them that the service man actually agreed that their system needed to be changed and the Alarm Box was illegal and of no use in its present position. when I called them again to see what could be done, the lady in customer service was really nasty when I asked to speak to manager. In the past, the female manager was very nice and even offered a refund . However, I was told "there are a lot of managers here!"She also said that the last service man that was out here said the our system was in"FINE" condition. She wanted to argue more and even claimed that they did install the alarm box outside. I tried to explain that there was no alarm installed at this address until we moved here. She assumed that I was telling lies. Finally , I gave up and asked her to cancel the contract. This company does not appreciate loyalty and does not respect the customer. You will be lucky to speak to at least one decent agent -so don't waste your time. I believe Guardian should have notified me of any updates instead of all my phone wires to be trashed. There are companies that have really good customers service and appreciate your business. Since then I have talked to better companies and much more quality security at a much better price.Dot't even think about that awful Place!!

So, when we signed on we were stuck with a 5 year contract. We signed on when we built our home. They were so expensive we tried to reduce or rate. We were told that we COULD reduce our rate and get this great video ring type doorbell but we needed to extend our contract. If we wanted to cancel we would have to repay the cost of the doorbell though. We decided to do it. It took us months to get the doorbell. The doorbell only works if someone rings it, so if people knock it doesn't activate it nor does it activate it if someone walks up. Also, they renewed us for another 48 months (yes, this is my fault for not reading it). When I called to cancel the service I was told I would have to pay a flat fee plus a percentage of the remaining contract, a total of almost $1700.00. I informed them that the doorbell is of poor quality and to do what any other video doorbell does it would cost me more than what my previous service does. I was told they could send someone out to activate the motion sensor which the technician said it didn't have when they installed it. This company is horrible, I would not recommend them to anyone, they work on LONG contracts and deceitful practices.

Horrible company. Had system in place for a year, never worked properly. Had to wait two weeks for a tech once. When I moved the company wouldn’t honor their word that the system could transfer to the new homeowner. The contract cancellation fee was $1,250.00 but they were “nice enough” to drop it to $530.00 after overbilling me for almost a year. I hope the company and all its assets go bankrupt.

I do not know where to start! Sales person came to my house and sold me a monitor, several sensors and 3 cameras. I paid for the equipment upfront, approximately $3,000.00 upfront. Sales person told me that I would only have the $75.00 monthly fees per month. One of the cameras to date has not been fixed and it has been over a year, I had several calls whereas tech came out and went out afterward. One tech came out and state, d that he had the wrong camera with him, so he had e out again, and again and again with techs coming out. So, I decided that I would stop paying and they did not have a problem sending me summons to sue me, no one likes to be sued. I called the attorney to pay on arrangement and I did, still with this camera not working. Recently, I attempted to make a payment and was told that they do not have a history of any payment that is due. So, I called customer service and spent a great deal of time informing them of what I was told. I was told to call again and to try and make payment and so I did, and was told the same thing, no record of payment due. I called customer service again and was told that they would investigate this and get back to me. They did and tried reaching me and could not. I did not return the call due to being severely and frustrated. To date, Guardian Alarm say that they want their money in the tune of $600.00. I will pay my bill but this bill, however, I am not pleased, I should have read the reviews before contacting this company. There is the site with the best alarm top companies that I have just learned about. I am hoping that I can get out of this contract, it is not fair, I signed in 2016 and still want to make me stay due to the months that were not paid due to lack of service to a camera that did not work.

Horrible company. I purchased a home back in 2015 and did a new install with Guardian as my monitoring company. Signed a 5-year contract because they said I could take the service with me if I moved. Well, I sold the home 3.5 years later and made the call to move the service to my new home. Now, all of a sudden "they don't do new installs or transfers in my city" and oh by the way "you still have to pay us for the service even though we cannot continue to provide it". Absolutely pathetic company and the customer service tools who work for them that just blindly read from a script.

Had a representative named Collin called to sell me this system. What they fail to tell you is that the system is completely useless because they do not obtain the permit’s with local law-enforcement for you in order to actually monitor your home like other providers do. If you read your contract closely it is in there that YOU are responsible to go through the trouble of contacting law-enforcement and obtaining a permits as well as paying all fees related to it and guardian will not begin actually monitoring your home until you contact them with the permit number! Again, This is something they fail to tell you intentionally and I had to call back and have somebody in Customer Loyalty dept check with the permit dept to verify this was the case for the county I live in. Fortunately I realized it right before the installation guy pulled up into my driveway and was able to immediately turn him around and back out the door. I was also within the three day window to cancel with no further issues but you have to mail a copy of the notice of cancellation on page 5 of your contract within three days. It is an extremely dishonest practice to sell someone a burglar alarm system hook all the equipment up into their home and know that it is completely essentially useless! Stay away from this Company I felt very scammed !!!!

Run Don't use them they're a waste of money . You go online for your contract signing which is to small to read. We built a new home and the builder Neal Homes used them. Turns out the one year contract turned out to be a 3 year contract. Which i was told by the installer was one. Found this out after my one year was finished. No way out of contract. None . You would have to pay in my case $700 early release. 48 dollars a month and they do nothing . Plenty of other companies or do a self install of a bunch of systems that are wireless Read all the complaints they have

I called the next day to cancel the contract that I signed. Scott L stated he would cancel contract and destroy my check. He would not accept a credit card payment, now I know why. He did not destroy my check, instead he cashed it. I have been trying to get my money refunded since December 29, 2018. Today is February 6, 2019. I have placed numerous calls to him. Also called Guardian office in Southfield, Michigan where he works from to no avail. Beware this salesman is a flat out liar. I moved into a new development and paid $2000 for Guardian Pre-Wiring services. I was told, multiple times, that I did not have to sign up for the monitoring services. I received a bill two months later charging me for a service I did not agree to. In the fine print, in the contract, Guardian added one line and are now stating I "agreed" to this service. They auto-populated my signature when I signed the digital version of the document I discussed with them in person. I have not activated the service. I paid for what I wanted. Now I am being billed monthly and told that I have to pay $750 additionally to terminate a service I never wanted, I am not currently using, and is not activated in my home. I am a first time home buyer. I was considering Guardian services in the future once I became settled in my home. I will buy future homes. I will not consider Guardian. This is a terrible business practice. Why would sneak a line into a contract to force someone to sign up for a service they do not want and was told they did not have to sign up for? I already paid them a large sum of money for the service(s) I wanted. There are other new homes being built in my development with other first time homeowners. I have already and will continue to have conversations with these new home buyers concerning Guardian's bad business practices. Several of them have now opted not to go with Guardian. There will be more. They have lost business by adding in a line to a contract and misleading the consumer. I did not agree to this service. I thought it was a mistake and I simply wanted out and it to be resolved. I should not have to be forced to pay an additional termination fee or an ongoing monthly service plan for something I never wanted, is not activated, and is not being utilized in my home. This is a terrible experience for a first time home buyer. The lack of security and control Guardian has made me feel during this process from a security service is appalling.

We have been customers of guardian for over 14 years. The product is not great, as our animals used to set the sensor off, so we could never set the alarm while away. It was time onerous having them come out again and again, and we just gave up, but have been under contract and couldn't break the contract (I know not wise on our part). We've since moved and have gone with a better system and company and wanted to cancel, and we were told we couldn't as we had 4 months left on our contract. This is quite unbelievable after being customers for so long. Apparently, we have a supplement to our original contract to add "sensors" which never worked.. Just tried canceling after 5 months, and now they're telling me December. It's ridiculous. I've asked for a copy of the contract, and they are "processing the request." Customer services is unapologetic about this.

I am a commercial customer that was with them for 30years- about 9 months ago, they could not get anything right. No one would call back- i called 50+ times! The system was wired with the zones backwards, phone lines disconnected (would have thought the monitoring center might notice this?), alarm went off for no reason some days, inoperable others. Simple weekly reports dissapeared (no one could fix it but they kept billing no problem). Local municipality almost jailed them for their fire-hazard wiring and lack of permits. They have a nice new website now- would have been nice if they could install or monitor our alarms....

Horrible!! I have been a customer for decades... sold my home and they tell me they need a 30 day notice and that its in their contract. Obviously fine print that was never mentioned when I called last month which of course they have no record of. The new owners did not want to pay the price. Not my problem. Even though the system has been in error mode for the last 30 days (just started getting error messages this week (April 18, 2018) via my cell phone. How convenient. This company has no conscience when it comes to doing the right thing and instead steals from a long time loyal customer. BEWARE!! As far as the system went... over priced compared to what you can purchase as Sam's Club or Costco and install yourself. There was no give in customer service with Guardian Alarm when cancelling my service other than the reiteration of their contract. No compromise! No, here's what we can do for you! No meeting in the middle! Its not the $64.00 a month I paid... it really is a matter of principle! Horrible mindset and company policy to treat a long time customer in this way. Definitely not a company I would EVER consider going back to or recommend going to. Hence their over all rating of 3.7.... and confusing contract. Now that truly is deplorable!! Those in charge need to rethink of how they're doing business so not to burn bridges as they take long to build.... and are quick to burn! Better start caring!!

Customer Service is the most important area of a business. Guardian Alarm failed miserably!! I called into Guardian asking for help because we disconnected our landline of which the alarm was run through it. We told that we would like to review with them what steps we need to take to make our system wireless as we had canceled our landline due to not using. We were told a Sales Representative would need to call us and review - Good! I waited 3 weeks and no one called, so i called again the next week and we reminded them of the call we are to be receiving - they said yes, someone will be in touch with you shortly. OK. Again, we waited another week and nothing (and by the way, they were told to call our cell phones on file)...but nothing!!! So i finally began looking at pricing of other companies and had a couple come out and quote - worked perfect as #1 we found out we were paying at least 20.00 over per month and #2 i had cameras which i paid out over 1300.00 to get installed and i could get cameras put in for $100/piece. Not only that i got a buy one get one free! So i called Guardian and said i am done, i have waited patiently, been with you for over 5 years and i am on my own here with 5 young children and need security. He said he was sorry but what could he do to fix it? I said, i am sorry i have waited for over 6 weeks to have this taken care of and not a call was provided to support me. He said ok, we will have to come out and take your cameras, i said, no sir that is my property i paid up front for them and you have no right. He said well, your contract is not up yet, i said, since when does a contract go for over 5 years?? No such thing - and he proceeded to send the tech out to take them down?!?!? I called and said, these are mine, i provided the invoices to prove it and you have no right. He had to accept as it was wrong all the way through!! Appalling really. I gave the company every chance and i had to have security as i have been broken into twice and it was unbelievable to think a company would just leave someone hanging for that long and then proceed to think they were going to come and take my equipment - absolutely unacceptable. Sadly i will never recommend this company! ....and to be kind i gave them a 3 for the little good they did me in years previous.

When the time came to move, fortunately the new home owners were will to take over the contract that was sprung on us was for a 5 year term. Though we coordinated carefully Guardian continued to bill us for 3 months after the new owners took over. Now, 6+ years after the install they have turned us over to a collection agency though they never contacted us ever again after we left the home. We contacted them rep ayes to get them to stop deducting the monthly fee from our bank, but once they did, they never once contacted us about supposedly owning them anything. My husband had a stroke and we are destitute and they refuse to allow us out of our contract. No compassion. Can't pay it but I have to? I would never recommend this company. Ever. God help you people. I am spreading the news.

I contracted with them in November 2016, I paid an unsolicited $100.00 to get up and running. Due to illness and terrible weather, I was unable to get to my empty building until January 2017, I did return in January only to find an infestation of flies that kept triggering my alarm and I requested to have the service turned off. I received an invoice for $250.00 or thereabouts and have been paying $50.00 per month. I now have received April 1, 2017, an invoice for over $3000.00. They are an impossible outfit to do business with and I advise beware. I have had the installation for less than 6 months, it has been deactivated for more than 3 months and I have sent them to date $400.00 for the times when I did have service. I expect since they shut my service completely off January 2017, that they do not expect $3000 plus for, at the most 3 months of monitoring. If I had a term agreement with them...they never explained that to me and as a matter of fact they explained very little to me. I would not agree to an long term installation and my reasons are business reasons. Worst decision I have made and it was made under duress. BEWARE

5 year agreement is absurd, and never move, as they are only in Michigan and will hold you to your agreement. I had them come out 5 times in two weeks to fix my system. A complete disaster. Worst decision I have ever made.

Guardian has always been there for me. They don't seem to cost any more per month than other companies. They have done a number of system upgrades without problems.
