Guardian has been protecting homes since 1930. It is one of the leading family-owned security businesses in North America with solutions for both home and business security needs. For the homeowner, Smart Home is an easy-to-use system that includes a 7” touchscreen digital frame that allows you to mechanize all aspects of your home. This system enables energy-savings in addition to providing superior protection. However, customers may be surprised to find they will need to pay much more each month with Guardian Alarm Company for the same services rendered by top home security companies at a lower rate.

The Good

  • Monthly Monitoring as Low as $24.99
  • Impressive Security Cameras
  • Home Automation Options
  • Average Response Time: 15 Seconds
  • Asset Tracking

Guardian Alarm Company’s $24.99 monthly monitoring fee competes with rates from top home security companies, and the company offers a wide variety of home security and home automation features that are better than most. In addition to door and window sensors, touchscreen panels, glass break sensors, and motion detectors, Guardian Alarm Company also provides top-of-the-line indoor and outdoor security cameras. Depending on the security package, customers can receive high-resolution cameras with bulletproof casings, 360-degree rotation, night vision, and digital video recording. Guardian Alarm Company will store up to 800 video clips of up to two minutes each, one month of continuous recording, and six-month video storage.

Customers will also receive a number of home automation options with Guardian Alarm Company. Through Guardian Alarm Company’s mobile or desktop app, users can control heating and cooling, ceiling fans and shades, lights, locks, and garage doors remotely. Users can also receive real-time email and text alerts when an alarm is triggered.

Guardian Alarm Company boasts an incredibly fast average response time of 15 seconds. That includes alarm responses to both life-threatening medical emergencies, as well as property intrusions. A chief complaint about the home security industry is slow response times, so if Guardian Alarm is accurate in this claim, the company has a major advantage over competitors. Additionally, Guardian Alarm Company allows you to track assets such as vehicles or other large equipment using GPS tracking devices. These devices provide real-time location data of your lost or stolen property and is a feature offered by very few home security companies.

The Bad

  • Home Automation Features Expensive
  • Confusing Contract Terms
  • Automatic Renewal Clause

While most home security companies will provide home automation standard for a small additional fee, Guardian Alarm Company will charge up to $59.95 a month for home automation – over twice the amount other companies will charge you for the same features. And while the company claims free installation and 24/7 support with any basic service plan and base equipment, customers will be required to pay for installation with more comprehensive service plans (including those with home automation capabilities).

If you are signing up for a deal with Guardian, make sure to have the advertisement in hand when the consultant arrives at your home. Some customers have reviewed the company online and while the service is impeccable, the sales team will try to up-sell you and keep you from valuable savings that are offered by the corporate team. Also when signing a contract make sure to be aware that there is an automatic renewal clause; if you are not interested in a second year, make sure to contact customer service and notify them.

The Bottom Line

Guardian Alarm Company offers a number of useful home security features (including some impressive high-end security cameras) as well as home automation devices to help you protect and monitor your home remotely. Unfortunately, to get access to some of these luxury features, considered standard by industry leaders, customers will likely have to pay a price much higher than the advertised $24.99 a month. Customers also need to be aware that Guardian Alarm Company included an automatic renewal clause on its contracts effective at the first contract’s expiration, so customers not wishing to continue services will have a short window of time in which to notify the company.

Horrible!! I have been a customer for decades… sold my home and they tell me they need a 30 day notice and that its in their contract. Obviously fine print that was never mentioned when I called last month which of course they have no record of. The new owners did not want to pay the price. Not my problem. Even though the system has been in error mode for the last 30 days (just started getting error messages this week (April 18, 2018) via my cell phone. How convenient. This company has no conscience when it comes to doing the right thing and instead steals from a long time loyal customer. BEWARE!! As far as the system went… over priced compared to what you can purchase as Sam’s Club or Costco and install yourself. There was no give in customer service with Guardian Alarm when cancelling my service other than the reiteration of their contract. No compromise! No, here’s what we can do for you! No meeting in the middle! Its not the $64.00 a month I paid… it really is a matter of principle! Horrible mindset and company policy to treat a long time customer in this way. Definitely not a company I would EVER consider going back to or recommend going to. Hence their over all rating of 3.7…. and confusing contract. Now that truly is deplorable!! Those in charge need to rethink of how they’re doing business so not to burn bridges as they take long to build…. and are quick to burn! Better start caring!!

Be careful with what you agree to. Their contracts are 60 months and if you decide to cancel they will bill you for the balance of the contract. Very unfair.

rdian is the worst co., stay away! I needed service to put sensors on New door, it has been over a week now. so all this time no Sensor on door, I’ve called them 3 times nd even said they expedited the service call, that was over a week ago. Customer service doesn’t really answer your question, they say “anything I can help you with ” I had them transfer me contract dept. and they didn’t, I was hung up on. the salesman that sold me the service was trying to scare me, telling me horrific things that could happen without a alarm. I’m new to the state, so I believed him, I really regret signing the contract. This whole co. is a scam

Customer Service is the most important area of a business. Guardian Alarm failed miserably!! I called into Guardian asking for help because we disconnected our landline of which the alarm was run through it. We told that we would like to review with them what steps we need to take to make our system wireless as we had canceled our landline due to not using. We were told a Sales Representative would need to call us and review – Good! I waited 3 weeks and no one called, so i called again the next week and we reminded them of the call we are to be receiving – they said yes, someone will be in touch with you shortly. OK. Again, we waited another week and nothing (and by the way, they were told to call our cell phones on file)…but nothing!!! So i finally began looking at pricing of other companies and had a couple come out and quote – worked perfect as #1 we found out we were paying at least 20.00 over per month and #2 i had cameras which i paid out over 1300.00 to get installed and i could get cameras put in for $100/piece. Not only that i got a buy one get one free! So i called Guardian and said i am done, i have waited patiently, been with you for over 5 years and i am on my own here with 5 young children and need security. He said he was sorry but what could he do to fix it? I said, i am sorry i have waited for over 6 weeks to have this taken care of and not a call was provided to support me. He said ok, we will have to come out and take your cameras, i said, no sir that is my property i paid up front for them and you have no right. He said well, your contract is not up yet, i said, since when does a contract go for over 5 years?? No such thing – and he proceeded to send the tech out to take them down?!?!? I called and said, these are mine, i provided the invoices to prove it and you have no right. He had to accept as it was wrong all the way through!! Appalling really. I gave the company every chance and i had to have security as i have been broken into twice and it was unbelievable to think a company would just leave someone hanging for that long and then proceed to think they were going to come and take my equipment – absolutely unacceptable. Sadly i will never recommend this company! ….and to be kind i gave them a 3 for the little good they did me in years previous.

My Mother had to be hospitalized, was sent to rehab, then has been moved to an assisted living facility. We asked to have her Guardian Alarm System in her home and her personal alarm discontinued and was told NO that she must pass on the system to the new owners of her home because she still owed 39 months on it–she is 86 years old!! KIM at Guardian Alarm has since called me and now resolved EVERYTHING and it will be discontinued this month!!! THANK YOU KIM!!!!

Consumers beware! They will charge you for a full, extra month after you cancel service. I hope they enjoy that extra $43 they stole, it will be the last dime they ever get a dime from me. Go with a more reputable and less shady company.

We got Guardian service when we knew we were going to be moving in the next two years. The sales person either lied or changed things on us after we told him we did not want a contract because we were moving. When the time came to move, fortunately the new home owners were will to take over the contract that was sprung on us was for a 5 year term. Though we coordinated carefully Guardian continued to bill us for 3 months after the new owners took over. Now, 6+ years after the install they have turned us over to a collection agency though they never contacted us ever again after we left the home. We contacted them rep ayes to get them to stop deducting the monthly fee from our bank, but once they did, they never once contacted us about supposedly owning them anything. Now they’ve changed hands in tucson and Eagle Direct says we owe them $2000 and has turned us over for collection.

We had them come to our door. This was supposed to be the better half of our old company, Moni. Well their product sucks and their customer service is worse. Orignial tech couldnt do smoke detector and now its been over 2 weeks and we arent even scheduled to get it. To top it off they were supposed to call back after first call last week and never did. If you see these people lock your door. They are slick talkers and will tell you what you want to hear.

Worst alarm system and service . They did fraud saying we sign a contract online that my husband sign (not my husband signature) when we never. We sign for a 2 year they say we sign for 3 years. Have proofs that we sign for a 2 year when the sale guy came to my house they say they do not have no proofs in file of that contract lucky I still have them so we will be doing a claim. Worst decision we ever made purchase alarm service from this company.

I contracted with them in November 2016, I paid an unsolicited $100.00 to get up and running.

Due to illness and terrible weather, I was unable to get to my empty building until January 2017, I did return in January only to find an infestation of flies that kept triggering my alarm and I requested to have the service turned off. I received an invoice for $250.00 or thereabouts and have been paying $50.00 per month. I now have received April 1, 2017, an invoice for over $3000.00. They are an impossible outfit to do business with and I advise beware. I have had the installation for less than 6 months, it has been deactivated for more than 3 months and I have sent them to date $400.00 for the times when I did have service. I expect since they shut my service completely off January 2017, that they do not expect $3000 plus for, at the most 3 months of monitoring. If I had a term agreement with them…they never explained that to me and as a matter of fact they explained very little to me. I would not agree to an long term installation and my reasons are business reasons. Worst decision I have made and it was made under duress. BEWARE

5 year agreement is absurd, and never move, as they are only in Michigan and will hold you to your agreement. I had them come out 5 times in two weeks to fix my system. A complete disaster. Worst decision I have ever made.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ALARM COMPANY. FIVE YEAR CONTRACT.
We purchased Guardian Alarm service back in June 2015. We explained to them that we were going to move, they gave us a nice VIP Move Certificate that we could then take the existing time on the contract and move to our new home. (5 YEAR CONTRACT) The certificate explains includes a new base security system. However what it did not explain is that you have to start another 5 year contract with these guys, OR pay $195.00. Be careful signing the contacts, read the small print. The five year contact is terrible, and we had to pay $750.00 to get out of it. Noting was explained to us about a five year contract we were signing up for. It would take an extra hour to read all the paperwork when you sign, and of course the salesmen keeps talking to AVOID the obvious.

I canceled my service months ago and have been making payments to satisfy my contract only to find out that guardian is telling me that I owe more than their letter originally stated. I was a customer for 15 years and referred several people. Carlo and Scott Do not care about their customers and they have no loyalty to you as their customer! Give your money to someone else, you will sleep better. I will be canceling the business account too! I am tired of the way they treated me. Someday they will learn customer service.

Guardian is not upfront when it comes to the length of the agreement you have to sign. They also had signatures and initials on a contract agreement that were not mine. I told them that the salesman had to sign those because I did not. I complained about the length of the contract and they refused to alter. One customer service rep said they would take off $5 per month but I would have to extend the contract for 5 additional years for a total of 7 years.

Another customer service rep said that she would investigate and speak with the proper person to find answers. She has not called and I suspect she never will. They are great at ignoring something they don’t have an answer for. Beware of this company, not trustworthy and unable to follow through.
