If you aren't in one of these states, we recommend checking out Frontpoint, available in all states for similar pricing.

Transparency Issues

There appears to be some confusion with regard to specifics surrounding Guardian Protection's advertised contract lengths and cancellation policy.

This confusion is due in large part to Guardian Protection's poor online transparency as well as its method of contract delivery.

Negative Guardian Protection Reviews Summary

  • Contract. Many of the negative reviews for Guardian Protection's security system mention the long contract and that it is difficult to cancel. Reviewers say that the company's contract length runs from 3-5 years. Before signing up with Guardian Protection, make sure to be aware of their contract length and to ask about their cancellation / moving policy.
  • Camera Issues. Unfortunately, the company's security system isn't perfect. A few people have claimed to have issues with Guardian Protection's cameras, stating that they are too sensitive to motion.

As stated above their camera functionality is extremely weak. Been disputing with them for over a year with no resolution. Excuses and more excuses. There resolution was to send us to collections and disconnect service will we were in their so called dispute action. So I pay balance so it doesn't effect my credit and services has still not been resolved. By the way I have been a Guardian customer for 18years though 3 moves. Can you say " when does contract end"?

This has been the absolute worst. We bought our house in July 2015 got our system in September. Before a year went by got a call and was told our cameras were not working? Sounds a little strange to me? And it would cost us to fix them. First off the cameras haven’t been touched by anyone since they were put up so we couldn’t have broken them. Neededless to say I didn’t like the situation and toon the all down. After 2 years I went to cancel, then was told that I was in a 3 year contract. We have had alarms go off for no reason causing charges for police calls. I asked about the cancellation fee it’s more than my monthly fee over my contract. This company is rediculous. I finally just unplugged my system and stopped my auto draft. Now when my contract is up next month I’m so done.

They were partners with the home builder, so it came with our home. Their price is good and I like that they do stuff pre-billed. I haven't dealt with them directly, only with their installers and their sales team. I had no issues with any of them though, they have been great. If they made a mistake, they would fix it quickly. They seem very knowledgeable. The equipment is great, but they only give you a very small network box for all their network stuff and you immediately have to open it and let stuff hang off of it. It's not big enough for all the things they give you.

One of our neighbors has it and recommended it to us. There are other people here in the neighborhood that have it too, so we called them first. I've had it for about a month and so far things have been good. Whenever I have called, they've been very helpful. There are still a lot of questions that go unanswered, but that's not their fault. The other thing is that the guy that came out here first was very nice. We were told everything about the service, but he wasn't upfront about the price. I've been a little upset about that since I wasn't told that there was a sales tax on the system, so the bill is now a lot more than what I thought it was going to be. We also weren't offered other plans that could've worked better for us. That made me very upset.

I had Guardian Protection install my service within a few days of me closing and moving into my house in July 2014. I was assured at that time that batteries for the magnetic door/window sensors could be replaced; however, if I wanted to add to my service (such as video camera, etc.) it would cost me. Based on this assurance,I signed a five year contract under the impression that when I upgraded the original windows in the house the magnets would be replaced at no cost to me. This was false. Now that I've invested $17K in new windows and the batteries have died on the sensors, I was informed it would cost me $159 to have a technician come in to change the batteries in addition to the cost of the batteries and/or sensors OR I could purchase the batteries myself and change them, In light of the fact that this company requires a contract for 30 or 60 months to be signed prior to installation, one would think the company would stand behind its product and ensure their customer's equipment is maintained over that time frame without the addition expense of paying a technician to come in and simply replace the magnets. It should be noted that my system was been inoperable for three months due to this problem. When I called to cancel the service, I was informed that it would cost me over $1000 to cancel the contract as I still have 14 months; however if I KEEP this inoperable system without the alarms properly functioning, the total bill would be approximately $681.80. I personally will hit every social site I have an account with and warn all my contact to avoid any and all contact with this company. Their a rip off.

I signed up for Guardian in May of 2017. In April of 2018 my smoke alarm began showing faults. I replaced the 3 AAA batteries with new batteries multiple times and the smoke alarm would show a fault a few days later. I call and schedule a service call through Guardian at which point in time I am made aware it will be a week before a technician can get to my home. That in itself was troubling but, you can’t help how busy the technicians are. The technician calls me the day before and says he will be at my house between the set hours. I inform him that’s fine but I need to be notified at least an hour before he arrives because I am at training for work and I’ll need to have someone meet him at the house. He says no problem and ask how far away I am from a certain city. I tell him at least an hour and a half and he then realizes I am three and a half hours away from him. So he shows up and never calls to let me know he is one the way and I can tell he’s agitated because I’m not home. I inform him that he was supposed to call me but I’ll have someone there shortly. My brother calls thirty minutes later and says we’re all set and everything is working correctly. I never receive a call from the technician saying what the problem was or that it was fixed. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and I receive a bill for $199 in the mail. Due to the way the bill was written I couldn’t tell exactly what I was being charged for so I call Guardian. I am then told that the 3 AAA batteries needed replacing (I had replaced them 3 times within a couple weeks) and since batteries are considered perishable items that would not be covered under my warranty or insurance but they’ll knock $25 off of it just to be nice. I then ask how much time is remaining on my contract (thinking I signed up for 36 months) and they tell me I signed up for a 5 year contract leaving me with 48 months left but if I sign up for 12 more months they will forgive this one time bill. I then ask how much it would cost to terminate my service with them and I am told $1,250 plus any outstanding balance. This is outrageous. I thought dealing with AT&T was bad but Guardian has taken the cake. I will be speaking with an attorney to find out just how legally binding this contract really is. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY

I called guardian to see if they could come out and replace the sensor and they quoted us almost $200! at the time we did not have the cash to do so but continued to pay our monthly bill even though we did not use the alarm for 2YEARS!! within that time frame they NEVER contacted us... NEVER came out!! we ended up going with a different alarm company now guardian is trying to charge us additional money because our contact rolled over to renew. worst alarm company!!!!!!!!

Guardian rep talked us into upgrading our alarm system about a month ago. Last Saturday evening the smoke alarm went off because something dripped in the oven. We couldn't get it to turn off, which freaked our dog out. Our previous sensor had a "dust cover" that we could attach to it temporarily if we were concerned about smoke. The cover for the new sensor does not fit, so it was useless. The Guardian customer service rep could not turn off the alarm either. So while my husband was talking to her, I was on a ladder removing the sensor to take out the batteries. My husband opened the front door to allow some clear air in and our dog ran out. We could not run after her because we were otherwise occupied and then the police and fire dept showed up. Our dog died later that night hit by a car. Needless to say we are upset. We have talked to 4 people this week asking for covers that fit altho it doesn't matter now the damage is done. My husband requested a call from a supervisor yesterday and we have yet to receive a call back with a resolution. We are really disappointed in the poor customer service and intend to switch companies when our contract is up.

Save yourself the headache of dealing with this company. If you've already bought into their services then to you I say good luck. When we first got the house in 2013 we signed up for their services and signed onto a 5 year contract. We sold our house in January of 2017 and called them to cancel the services and monitoring. We were told the account can be set to terminate but we would have to pay until the end of the contract. We weren't too happy about that but we did sign the contract so we agreed to pay for the remaining one year left on our contract. Fast forward it's 2018. Our last payment was supposed to be in January of 2018 which we paid. We then got an autodraft notification in April from our bank about a payment to Guardian Protection Services for the months of February, March, and April. I called them and they apologized returned our money and said it won't happen again. I was told the account would be taken care of and there was nothing else I needed to worry about. May came around and again another notification from our bank about an autodraft to Guardian Protection Services. I once again called after wasting an hour with the rep I was told yes I was correct we shouldn't have been charged and there shouldn't have been an autodraft. So I told the rep to delete the autodraft information from my account because I didn't want them drafting from my account. She told me it should be fine because she cleared the account and set it to terminated I insisted on her to remove it so finally she did. Well today June 12th I get a call from Marsha who left a message that we owed them $108.00 for the months of February and March and that because there was no payment information on record the payment couldn't be made so I needed to make a payment soon to avoid additional fees. So once again I called them back and the rep that answered told me "I looked at your account and it is correct you do owe a balance of $108.00". I asked him if he really looked into it or just glanced at what the charges were for. He said he looked at all the notes and investigated the account thoroughly and that he could take my payment over the phone for me if I wanted. This upset me because I have records showing our end of contract not to mention all the other conversations I already had about this. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred. A supervisor Nancy came on and proceeded with the same bs as the rep so I informed her I was recording the call for legal purposes and that I am requesting she thoroughly reviewed the account before saying it's correct. I told her I had every documentation from January 2013 including every payment notification and said I have no problem providing her with that information if she needed it to make her life easier. She again said she looked it over thoroughly and we were legitimately charged for February and March. SO I asked her under what contract did I agree to pay for additional months beyond the contract I signed in January of 2013. I asked her to provide me with a contract that shows me signing on to pay for additional months beyond the contract I agreed to in January of 2013. I also told her if she cannot find me that information then she may need to reevaluate the actual contract I signed. After putting me on hold she returned and said I was correct and that it was a different department that messed up. She then said she could call me after the balance has been fixed and zeroed. I told her to fix it and because of their incompetency I need an email confirmation that the balance has been zeroed out since I needed a paper trail for my own protection from Guardian Protection Services. Had I not kept so much documentation they surely would've tried to make me pay for additional months beyond my original contract. If you want protection then first start off by protecting yourself by staying away from this company. I'll update if no email is sent to confirm.

We called because we needed service. Our keypad let us know which sectioned needed to be looked at. The first apt was suppose to be between 8-12, but he called at 11:45 and said he would be here in an hour. My daughter had a dr apt at 1:00, so that wouldn't work, so we had to reschedule. I wasn't happy because I took off. The next apt was scheduled for 12-4, and he called and wanted to show up earlier, which was fun because my husband was home. The service from Alan was great! He was nice and was in and out. We did get a $25 co pay fee waived because of being late last time. We ere not billed anything because it is normal wear and tear. Love that they cover that! Would recommend them because they have always had great service and are reliable when my alarm has gone off.

Had their system for 3 years, never checked the batteries or did any maintenance check ups. Canceled via letter with 30 day notice. Received a letter 45 days later stating that they had been trying to reach us in regards to our cancellation and since they couldn't they were going to still charge us. I called their customer service line, and was told that they received our letter and that "Nathan" tried to call us 3x's. The agent gave us the dates and times, however we checked our call history, no calls or voice messages were ever received or left. Since "Nathan" was never able to contact us then our letter was void, and we would have to restart the cancellation notice again. We found a better security service company, that responds for maintenance calls (i.e. new battery, moving monitors, etc.)---this new company doesn't charge. They also guarantee a yearly, routine check-up on the system---in that someone actually comes out to the house and checks all the batteries, set-up, connections, etc. Guardian never did this, and if they did would charge for this "service". Also, this new company has a better cancellation policy that is clearly written in the new contract. 30 day notice via phone call or email.

Our system failed, resulting in Guardian calling the police out to our house while we were out and unable to answer our phone (in a theatre, phone on mute). We were charged penalties for false alarm. For the next 2 plus months, I contacted Guardian several times to repair/replace the defective components to no avail. Their latest excuse for not fixing my system is because the subcontractors they use are not responding to their calls or email messages. I had to hire a caregiver to stay with my 88 year old mother who lives with us, while we went on vacation, because our security system is not working.

Please never do business with this unethical scam of a company! We signed up and told them we were renting and they said when we moved they would come and move the equipment over to our new house. Called today to set that up and they said it wasn't the case. We would need to buy new equipment (current one is less than a year old) and they would charge us over $700. It also costs $750 to get out of their contract, no matter when you cancel. And contracts are 60 months. If you don't cancel before the 6p months are up, they renew for another 60 months. They are horrible! Please think again! I would never have used them knowing what I know now! Their salesman lied to my face about how a move would be handled

First, the one star is for their business practices. BUYER BEWARE when you sign the contract. Story time... The first house we had them in, everything was free upfront, and we signed a 36 month contract. FREE, everything was FREE!!!! Signed their contract and when we sold our house and moved 33 months later, we wanted to carry their services over to our new rental home. They offered to just charge me an install fee of (around $79 or so) and renew my contract (mind you, I only had a few months left on my first home contract of 36 months) So ok, NP, its a few bucks, just renew and install all new stuff (which THEY RECOMMENDED because they wanted the new resident of my first home to pick up their services). So, no issues thus far into our second home/contract with them. Well, we have moved again and because we have bought our forever home and we were only at the second residence for 14 months. I call them up to, again to relocate services and I still have 22 months left on my contract, but like last time, I’m just going to renew and sign the contract, pay an install fee and get new equipment again; not much different than the last move, right?? GUESS WHAT MY INSTALL FEE IS NOW??? EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS ($800)!!!!!!!!!! AND THAT’S WITH A 60 MONTH CONTRACT. I didn’t even ask what the 36 month contract cost was. That’s right, from free, to $79 to $800… I’ll let you decide how you feel about how this played out. The second home install was so cheap because they knew if they charged me anything ridiculous, I was just going to pay out the monthly monitoring fee of $40 a month, which would have been $120 and PEACE OUT!! Now that I have 22 months left, 22x50 (monthly fee) would be $1100. So, they figure, “We’ll charge him so much because he will either pay the $750 to get out of the contract or the $800 to continue raping him for 5 years” I was absolutely floored when that $ figure came out of the reps mouth. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet, but this had to be said publicly. And my situation is not a unique one either.

A business should know that a dissatisfied customer that is made to continue to pay for mostly unused services is NEVER going to go back. Fine print in contract not disclosed at signing states a 24hr back out. Servicing can be one month out; seller qouted 1-2 days for service. Home panel set off alert from dog bark, door came alerts with passing trucks, smoke alarm loose signature during the day, and enter alarm misfired without deley when set on 60 sec delay. Too many disturbances in a few months.maureen C.
