The Good

  • $34.95-49.95 per month monitoring
  • Risk-free, cancel anytime policy
  • No early termination fees
  • Customizable packages
  • AARP member benefits

$34.95 Per Month Monitoring

Starting at just $34.95 per month, LiveWatch Security’s monitoring services fee is pretty affordable, especially compared to many other top security companies in the industry.

Risk-Free, Cancel Anytime Policy

LiveWatch only requires its customers to sign onto a 12-month contract, which is short compared to the industry average of 36 months. Once the one-year contract is complete, LiveWatch allows its customers to switch to a month-to-month plan. All contracts come with a guarantee that customers can return their equipment within 365 days for a full refund, which is a great customer service perk. Contracts can also be canceled at any time without incurring additional fees or charges. You will have to pay equipment fees.

No Early Termination Fees

LiveWatch customers are free to cancel their service at any time with no early termination fees, although you may have to pay for your equipment. Many home security companies require their customers to pay the remaining balance of their contract, which sometimes adds up to hundreds of dollars.

 Customizable Packages

If you need more or less equipment than what’s offered in a standard package, it’s easy to create a customized equipment setup for your home with LiveWatch. Standard equipment includes; motion sensors, door sensors, system control panel, and a mobile app for alarm and sensors notifications. All packages include 24/7 monitoring services. The control panel includes z-wave technology but it is unclear if they incorporate crash and smash technology as well.

AARP Member Discounts

In August of 2016, LiveWatch President Chris Johnson stated, “LiveWatch was founded to make home security accessible to everyone.” In speaking of the new AARP member benefits, he continued, “We’re excited to extend this special offer to AARP members because we believe everyone deserves a little more peace of mind as they pursue their goals in life.”

As reported by PR Newswire, the AARP discounts allow members to now purchase a LiveWatch home security system at a reduced price and will also save $2 a month on all LiveWatch alarm monitoring plans. The security systems will still include the risk-free cancel anytime policy and free lifetime warranty.

The Bad

  • High upfront costs
  • $19.95 activation fee
  • No professional installation available

High Upfront Costs

LiveWatch’s upfront costs are decently high. Regardless of which package is chosen, customers will be required to pay $99 upfront. Any additional equipment components that customers may need to purchase range from $29 to $78 each. Smart door locks, security cameras, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors, and window sensors must be purchased separately. An additional motion sensor and door sensors may also be purchased separately. Security cameras are especially pricey, ranging from $199 to $349. Customers have complained of additional fees for false alarms.

$19.95 Activation Fee

In addition to upfront equipment costs, LiveWatch requires its customers to pay a $19.95 activation fee.

No Professional Installation Available

LiveWatch Security does not offer professional installations, which means that the customer is responsible to install their home security system on their own. Although these security systems are not difficult to install, some customers may still prefer to have a trained professional handle the installation.

The Bottom Line

LiveWatch offers DIY home security solutions with short contracts, customizable packages, and affordable monitoring plans. However, LiveWatch’s upfront fees are high compared to other top companies and no professional installations are available. Though the company puts top priority on alarm response times, it has not always been reviewed for great customer service.

I used to be a proponent of Livewatch but overall you're better off going for a more reputable brand. My livewatch has been nothing but a headache and they've actually cost me more money than they saved. I've had 2 random false alarm calls due to faulty sensors where it just sent the police to my house without being triggered. Thinking it was a break-in, I let the police check it out. Turns out the sensor just decide to call the police on its own. Bam, $115 fine which Livewatch says it's not responsible for. Right now I'm more scared about false alarms than actual burglaries. But seriously, you'll end up paying more for your system if you're in a state that charges for false alarms.Read More

Live Watch is very simple and affordable. During my consultation, I was not pressured into buying a plan that I could not afford. They helped me with a secure plan that fit my budget. Installing the devices was very easy and getting everything activated was not complicated at all. The agent that helped me activate was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions.
Live Watch is an awesome investment!

Excellent customer service recovery! The initial setup and activation call did not go well. The tech assigned was not familiar with setting up an existing system. After trying to figure it out and at the risk of frustrating a customer, we agreed to set up another attempt the next day.
The tech assigned to the activation call the next day was absolutely superb! She was intimately knowledgeable about installing and activating my system. She patiently talked me through each step and double checked everything. Then she made doubly sure that I was totally satisfied with the outcomes and that I completely understood the operation and programming of my new system.
Bravo LifeWatch! Excellent recovery! You have a happy customer and a great reference!

Choosing and installing a security system can be daunting task. LiveWatch takes the stress out of securing your home. The initial contact with a system consultant provides all the help you need to select the best possible combination of sensors to adequately secure the home. Delivery was virtually overnight. Everything was boxed, labeled, and listed by location on the list provided. The email link to the installation video provided can’t miss instructions for placing the components. The activation call provided assistance in getting everything up and running. We had a minor problem with one sensor placement and were treated with patience and expert assistance. Step by step help with setting up our account made this task a breeze. And everything worked perfectly when we completed the install. I especially appreciate that every communication with LiveWatch has the name and contact information of the sender. You deal with real people who care about your experience. It’s like working with a home town merchant just down the street My only gripe: the instructions for operating the IQ Panel seem cluttered. More white space on the pages would make it easier to find and read the information. And I would appreciate an index. Overall, a great product, personal service, and a competitive price. We are happy with our choice of LiveWatch for our home security needs.

Installation of LiveWatch equipment… The purchase, review of equipment setup and activation was one of the most professional processes from start to finish. My background is years of Information Techonology so I am not the easiest clients to deal with much less impress. I was and am very pleased with LiveWatch and I think you would be too.

LiveWatch Security provides the kind of experience that one expects. This includes every aspect from the Products/Alarm system, to the rapid response of the Monitoring service. It has been my experience with all Customer Service interactions that they did everything in a professional, knowledgeable and curtious manner. They listened to my inquiries, not matter how trivial or serious with patience. Always making sure I had been helped to my satisfaction, never rushed. Also encouraged to call whenever I needed to if I had any other questions or concerns. If you want a Security service that feels like a trustworthy friend, you want LiveWatch!

Have you “experienced” Sirius/XM Radio cancellation protocol? Same run-around with Livewatch. For personal reasons, I chose not to install/activate their equipment, have been texted 12 times; “We see you’re not activated/protected, what can I do to help?”, and when I text back, or email, that I want a return authorization, I’m told someone will be in touch “very soon.”
Then they began to bill me, for both, activation and fees. HUH? The bits are still in the box they came in!!??
Then they send me a form to sign; allowing that they will continue to bill me, until the parts are returned!?!? HUH?
They present a very low-class business model. Really poor!

I called to get information on the different packages and was hit with a hard sale which I found deplorable and unnecessary. The upfront cost was surprising and I didn’t like the attitude of the sales person when I called customer service. I am at an age where I know what I want and just don’t have the patience for hard selling when there is no need. LiveWatch was #1 on list and now I have decided not to do business with this company. I asked the sales man not to call me and sure he called the following day anyway. I simply asked him to take me off the list and please to not call my home again.

The company may have an outstanding record for monitoring but need to place more energy on customer service in my opinion.

My product stopped working in January of 2016. They sent me a replacement part & tipple billed me for the replacement. It took several months to correct the tipple billing & the device still did not work. for 7 months they billed me for a service that they did not provide & i finally had to have the credit card company refuse payment. Very disorganized company, not worth the amount you save, they end up charging you on the back end with erroneous charges.

I had live watch for only 4 months and my house was broken into, the copper was stolen from my house, the wiring was cut and drywall broken and not once did I get a call from LIVE WATCH. I had supplied 4 different phone numbers where I could be contacted in case of an emergency. When I got home and saw my front door wide open where there was a sensor as well as the back sliding door where there was also a sensor was open. The only response from LIVE WATCH was there was an email sent that the battery was low. The alarm was connected to the outlet and was stolen as well. I was never notified and now I have over $20,000 in repairs needed to my house to make it a habitable living conditions. With now no electricity or plumbing we can no longer stay in our home. Do not use live watch, when I called about everything they threw the policies at me and said they are not liable. If you are trusting a company to at least inform you when your house in broken into they should be liable if they did not do so.

After being a SafeMart/LIveWatch customer for the last ten years or so, I am feeliing very disappointed. I thought I was purchasing some level of security/protection. However, as diffictult as it is to even contact this company, I do not understand how they would possibly respond to a security issue in a timely fashion. i tried calling the “award-winning customer serivce department” this morning. Following being bounced around from one recorded message to another, I was connected with a live line through which I could hear conversations going on the in the background, but no one would respond to me. After shouting and whistling on the phone line to get someone’s attention, I spoke with a man named Steve. I let him know that because it was so difficult to contact them, and it seemed they are unable to answer a simple phone call, I felt I had not been receiving any secuity protection and had just been wasting my money. I told “Steve” to please cancel my service. Very disappointed. This service is NOT what is advertised. I have not been “protected” at all. I have wasted my money for years.

Customer service charges $25 per call after their 3 day “trial” period, if it is not an emergency !!! They surely don’t tell you this when they are selling you the product ! This help is also not available at all after 5 PM Saturdays or anytime on Sunday !!!! Pathetic…. Their message is ” if this is an emergency, call 911″. THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THEIR JOB !!!

This does not work for my 85 year old father, who needs longer than that to train to a new system.

I will be returning the system soon, and will update as to how their warranty goes….

Just quit their service after 12 months of paying over 50 dollars a month to them. I had 2 homes one in Oregon and one in FLoria that had the live watch service. When I was in Oregon the camera were not working, but they kept charging the 10 dollar fees. They told me I need to be on site to fix the problem, so I guess I need to fly back everytime the cameras do not work. I was back and tried to stop the 10 dollar charge they wanted me to send them another agreement in order to stop the charge. I asked why they could not just stop it . They said it is their policy, at that point I just asked to cancel the whole contract since I had 12 months with them. DONE DEAL.

I purchased this system for remote monitoring. Since installation in November, there have not been 2 continuous weeks of service, and each time the system fails, they want someone to be on site. If I were on site, I wouldn’t need a remote monitoring service.
I’m in China. The system is in South Carolina and it’s been unresponsive for 2 weeks.

The installation was easy, step by step instructions. The phone call with the technician on the day of activation went smoothly, he stayed on the phone for as long as I wanted to. The follow up calls and emails were genuine concern and satisfaction of me the consumer. No contract, the price, and the RF frequency wireless technology were the 3 things that got me. Other companies prices were way too expensive, you had to have a long term contract, and there were penalties for cancelling, that drove me to Live Watch. I have Comcast TV, Internet & phone, and they would not give me a break with the bundle. The only reason I still have Comcast when I had it in Boston before I moved to SC, was to keep my email, but I scaled down all the other movie stations. I was literally a “New” customer when I moved but the price was almost the same as when I was in MA. Sorry Comcast, this is the truth. I would recommend Live Watch to anybody. Look at the packages, price, and value.

I paid $500 for the system and half of the shipped equipment did not work.
I spent many hours trying to make it work in my home but it would not. I received a return authorization from LiveWatch and now they say they will refund my $500, but they will not pay for the cost of returning the equipment.
So I’m out of pocket for the $27 shipping, after having spent several weeks to order it, try to set it up, wait for their technician appointment, box it up for return, etc.
The equipment was defective. Why won’t they pay for the return shipping??

A few weeks ago, I ordered a fairly basic security system. It was shipped to me UPS overnight. When it arrived, by then I had decided that I didn’t want a system with mandatory monitoring, since we are home most of the time. I called them, and returned the package (with unopened pkgs inside. I had to pay the freight charges of over $30 dollars. 5 days later I called to check that the pkg had been received. This was over a week ago, yet I haven’t been refunded the price of the system. I called them 3 days ago, and they still hadn’t initiated the debit back to my account! I am very upset about how this refund/return has been handled. Yes, they will take payment immediately at the time of placing the order, yet they fritter around and play games when it comes to giving a refund. I recommend caution when dealing with this company, should you not be satisfied with the product!

I had an existing hardwired system which was no longer functioning, so I knew what I needed and I knew that no company’s standard package would be adequate. I also have no aversion to DIY projects. In fact, I went beyond the usual by using the old system’s wiring to power my three panels remotely, thus eliminating any exposed wiring.

My system included 23 window, 2 door sensors, 3 smoke detectors and one CO2 sensor in an old (150+ years) house. I encountered some issues after installing the system. One of the door sensors would not work, apparently due to its installation on a steel door, as the adjacent 6 window detectors in the same room functioned properly. One of the window sensors in the basement repeatedly signaled a failure. Without pushing too hard, I didn’t get any meaningful help from LiveWatch. I just purchased a couple of concealed (recessed) door sensors which mount in the jamb and a signal repeater from sources other than LiveWatch, as they listed neither on their web site. I also purchased two “IQ2” secondary panels elsewhere because one really needs a main or secondary panel at each door to confirm that the system is ready to arm or has been successfully disarmed, not to mention a disarming keypad. The main panel is located in the master bedroom where we can communicate with LiveWatch in the event of an alarm during sleep hours. Those additions resolved all my hardware issues, albeit at $150 additionally for each IQ2 and $34 for each door sensor. but I’m critical of LiveWatch for not asking anything about my home environment. Given that the distance between the main panel and the furthest sensor comes close to the maximum range of the system and that there are plaster walls and stone foundations, the need for a repeater should have been obvious to LiveWatch’s security consultant. Likewise, the two keypads I ordered (and returned) would not satisfy my needs as they incorporate no more control than the 4 button key fobs – there’s no feedback for system status.

I have had one false alarm, which was prior to adding the repeater. It was apparently caused by the system not getting a closed signal from my exit door. The response was not as quick as I expected. I was in my car about 1/2 mile from home before I received a call on my cell phone. I estimate this took about 3 minutes.

Everything seems to be working flawlessly now. The LiveWatch people are very pleasant to deal with, but their knowledge seems to be focused on their simple, package systems consisting of a couple of window/door sensors and a motion detector. If you have some expertise, as I do, that’s fine. Just expect to take some additional steps and expense to remedy the system’s shortcomings. If you have needs beyond the simple package and you don’t possess any nerdy skills, find a local provider who can tailor a system to your site. Just make sure the equipment you purchase is portable and usable by others, like LiveWatch.

On the equipment front, my system is based on the QOLSYS IQ panel, which is GE 319.5 Mhz compliant. There are lots of devices available on the market and lots of monitoring agencies can interface with it. It’s also the most up-to-date system widely available.

Despite my issues with LiveWatch, I maintain that I made a good choice in my selection. Of considerable importance is the lack of a contract and the portability of its use. If I do have a problem with their service or if they go belly-up, I can call many competitors who will be glad to provide monitoring services.

I have had Livewatch in my home for about 1 1/2 years now and I love them. They were so easy to purchase the initial system from and they have been great doing upgrades. I have upgraded my system gradually from just a couple of door/window sensors to now having sensors on every single door and window, motion sensors, cameras, light switches connected to the home automation portion, and smoke detectors. The system warns me all the people in the house are too far away from the house (1 mile) and the system is still disarmed, the ASPSer system is great for when we have an alarm, allowing us to talk to family members instantly in 1 chat room to see if it is a real alarm or not and can have police dispatched instantly as soon as we determine it is a real alarm. So happy I went with them and keep referring everyone I know to them as well. BTW, I have seen negative reviews about their tech support, I don’t know who these people called but it must not have been Livewatch. Anytime I need to talk to a tech, they are great at resolving my issue right away and getting my system back up at 100%.

I did a ton of research looking for a no contract alarm company, in the end it was between Simplisafe and Livewatch. I decided on and bought my Livewatch system about 2 months ago because their equipment seems to be much further ahead in technology than Simplisafe. I also like that they are home automation compatible if i ever decide to go that route. I bought a simple system from them – touchscreen IQ panel, 3 door sensors, smoke alarm, and a glass break sensor (couldnt do motion sensor bc i have a large dog). Everyone i have dealt with knew their stuff and was very helpful and friendly. The setup was painless and i had no issues with any of the equipment. I have been charged exactly what i was told for the equipment, the activation, and the monitoring. I have not had any real incidents to “test” the system, but i do not doubt it will work as advertised. Livewatch seems to be an awesome company and i am glad i picked them.

Sales team misled me when saying they could use my existing system. Was told I’d receive a new sim panel that would be placed inside the Honeywell system. Instead I’m sent a massively large box with an antennae that hooks into the Honeywell system via several large wires. Calling it an eye sore is an understatement. As a result of their false statements, they lost both my home account and rental property with them.

The bad reviews here. I’m not even sure if they are talking about the same company.

Never had a hard sell for anything. When I’ve called for assistance with hooking up a sensor, they answered immediately.

System was easy to setup. I installed a few basic sensors and alter added more. I’ve upgraded to the full package and now have remote administration and monitoring thru my cell phone.

    I’m very happy with Safemart/LiveWatch.

This was our first ever security system, and I decided to first set up a very simple system with Lifewatch. A couple of year later, I added more sensors, including water sensors in case of a water leak. This was all reasonably easy to do. It does take some time and there is some learning involved. The system has worked flawlessly, and just last week the water sensors saved us from a catastrophic event when a water heater sprung a leak.

After reading my previous review, I received a call from the Company. They said they will fix all my problems.

They sent me free 4 pcs of repeaters and then scheduled a time to help in installing them.

Spent almost an hour on the phone. They also offered free two months of monitoring.

The system worked well for few days. Again received a call in last Saturday requesting me to put additional reviews.

Today again the system has started malfunctioning. The same problem again.

This system is HORRIBLE, I would not recommend anybody to buy this system. In fact I am planning to return the system.

I am a original buyer and I will never recommend this system to anybody.

I agree with basil’s post the after sales service is horrible. Their lack of follow through with complaints, posts, or emails sent to their company further proves that the customers are NOT their #1 priority. The only thing that was a priority was getting me to sign up for their service and buy their products, but after that you will hear crickets. Good luck being able to get a hold of anyone, if you submit a help ticket you will get an automated reply saying that they will get back with you in one day or sooner. A week has now past, going on two, and still nothing.
If anyone hears who actually runs this company and how to send them an actual letter of complaint, please post the information.
I have been overly patient with this company, and the next step is to post my negative review on all social media websites as well as contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint and give them a failing score.
If you are a company that actually cares about its customers, and doesnt just give it lip service on your sales website, it is an easy fix. Follow through with the reported issues, actually call your customers back, and fix the problem. If not, please close you business or turn the company over to someone who actually cares about people and not just the money you so eagerly took during the sales call!

Live Watch has been fantastic to work with. The setup could not have been easier! The Support Team is great. Any calls are answered or returned promptly. The best customer service we’ve experienced in a long time. And we love the system!

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. I am so frustrated that I wasted HOURS upon hours trying to set up and troubleshoot a system that never functioned properly. I tried adding additional z-wave repeaters as they suggested and the system worked for less than a day before I started getting notifications that doors were open (that were not open) and then that the system wasn’t communicating with the panel. The system was not as advertised to begin with. It is not as simple as they claim it to be. The worse part is that they guaranty a full refund if you return all the equipment. I paid $900 for the equipment and was only refunded $700. I called twice and was on hold and transferred multiple times (both called lasted over 30 minutes) trying to get this resolved, both times I was assured I would be refunded the rest of the money I spent. It has been over a month and a half since then, and I have not been refunded. I have emailed and called more times and gotten no where. I chose this company because of the good reviews I read – do NOT make the same mistake I did!

They are trying hard and have the right attitude, but there are a number of problems. The largest is technical support. They acknowledge this and are adding and training people, but wait time and varying responses including wrong answers are time consuming and difficult to undo or resolve. The general customer support seems to be better than the technical support, but they are stretched there also.

They need to serious review their website and not state something is plug and play when it is not compatible with the system they are currently promoting.

On the availability of add on devices there are some major gaps – garage door opener, links to popular temperature control devices, particularly the standard of the industy – Honeywell, there is no siren or strobe that will work, etc.

They have a good basic idea, now they just have to work hard to make it functional, inclusive of needed and best add on devices and improve technical support and website descriptions of products so they are accurate.

Lets start with 2-4 calls a day after attempting to get a quote online that requires input of your phone number.
Then, nonstop hard sell to sign up ensuring me that my current ADT/Brinks System could be taken over with a translator module.
Great right? Wrong – after the sales woman closes me, I get transferred over to an engineer only to find the translator module won’t work after all.
After have asked at least 2 times if we can check the system during the process, I was re-assured that the translator would work with some very easy do-it-yourself wiring. Their engineer didn’t think so.
    What a waste of time.

I’ve been trying to cancel this product for two weeks. Tons of phone calls, text messages, emails, even got an email with the cancel number. Phone calls still come in to make an appointment for setup and fees. A week after the canceled number, they sent me a FedEx tracking number. Terrible customer service. A real pain in the butt.

If you have a bit of common sence and can read simple instructions you can install your own security system. When I purchased my system everything came preprogrammed. All I had to do is mount the sensors and the control box.

It’s fine until you want to cancel. I’ve asked for the cancellation form like it says to on their site, but instead get an email about how they would like to talk first. Oh brother. They will keep charging away after the first year is over too. Never again.

I received my system 8 days ago, and still not completely setup yet. The main panel wasn’t the right one due to fact our cellular works under AT&T not Verizon which the system was sent was on Verizon’s towers. The front door entrance sensor doesn’t coincide with the door due to the door being within the casing of the door, so I had to re-order a recessor for it. Supposively, made the order 2-3 days ago and when I was on the phone with the rep yesterday to verify the shipment, found out the order wasn’t even placed. Went through 2-3 techs and they’re customer service and knowledge was terrible. Especially, having to figure things out on my own took a lot of time and energy. Would be on the phone with them 3-4 hours and still can’t figure the best solution. They cannot deliver nor educate me on how to’s and what to expect since this is the first time having a home security system. At this point, still beyond frustrated trying to get my home secured and safe. I have an appointment with ADT to evaluate this Saturday.

I have used live watch for almost 4 years. The installation was simple and technical support is exceptional. I had a window sensor fail and they sent a new one no charge. I did have a battery fail on the system panel which I paid for – $15 since it is off the shelf. Again, support was outstanding! I would strongly recommend them especially since they use standard equipment. Not one false alarm!

I signed up with LiveWatch about 5weeks ago. The experience has not been what I expected. It is hard to get somebody on the phone within ten minutes, unless you sign up, and the online chat is almost impossible. The system itself is not cheap and I am having issues with the motion detectors. The one with the camera just goes off all the time and the sensitivity has been lowered already. I just can’t use it anymore. Many issues with wrong phone numbers and they just don’t seem to be able to correct it. Letting them know that we were going on vacation and we were not available on our cellphones was a mission. I am having some serious doubts at the moment.

Live Watch has the best customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. I was researching alarm companies so I could ditch overpriced ADT. I found Live Watch and used their “chat” service to ask a ton of questions. I was never pressured or even asked to purchase anything until I expressed an interest. All of my questions were answered quickly and accurately. Every representative I have dealt with has been extremely friendly and helpful. I was even able to use all of my existing sensors with my new Simon XTI touchscreen control panel. I HIGHLY recommend the nominal price upgrade to the XTI because it is very user friendly. Syncing the sensors to the panel is so easy that it was fun to do. There are videos on the web site that walk you through every step of the set up.
I laughed when I saw “The Bad” in the review overview. This system was so easy to set up and I can’t imagine any “self-maintenance” other than replacing a battery when the time comes. I don’t think you can find a company that offers this level of customer support at such an affordable price.

Install was simple and easy, and they start you out with set up time while you’re learning.
Price was extremely affordable and I bundled 15 months of monitoring.
Now we’re in the 16th month at 29.95 mo and it’s still better or equal to the other’s best rates.
Alarm events are handled well with a call before summoning the police, and an email record of the event. AT&T’s most comparable rate, $44.99.
    I’m staying put.
