They are one of the only companies that still offer service for landline monitoring, as well as broadband and cellular home security monitoring. Protect America offers flexible monitoring options for nearly every budget. Monthly monitoring starts at $19.99 – one of the lowest home security system prices – and goes to $50 a month for cameras and video monitoring (on par with other professional monitoring companies).

Pros

No Upfront Equipment Costs

What sets Protect America apart the most from other home security companies is that there are no upfront costs. Instead, customers can pay for their equipment in their monthly bill with no interest charged. This makes Protect America one of the most affordable home security companies in the industry. While other companies will charge anywhere from $99 to over $1,000 in upfront costs, Protect America currently charges $0 in upfront fees. However, those who want to purchase their equipment outright still can.

If a customer wants to purchase devices from Protect America upfront, they definitely can and this will result in a lower monthly fee. Protect America has transparent pricing on their services and equipment. Other alarm companies require homeowners to call in and get a quote. Protect America displays all this information on their website and allows customers to get an instant quote by building their own home security system, or choosing from the company’s packages.

Low Monthly Monitoring Fees

Protect America offers five different home security packages ranging from a locked-in rate starting at $19.99 per month (landline monitoring), one of the cheapest monthly monitoring packages available in the home security industry. Minimum monthly monitoring with cellular is $41.99/month, the same or lower than other companies. Monitoring includes free equipment (see above).

Protect America offers a free lifetime warranty with all the equipment and all packages. If any parts of their equipment are defective or stop working, the company will send out replacement parts for free as long as you are a customer. Once you sign a contract with Protect America, your rate is locked in. They will not raise your monthly monitoring fees as long as you are under contract.

Once you sign a contract with Protect America, your rate is locked in, meaning even if the company raises prices for their service, they can’t raise your rate. Other companies, like Xfinity, do not promise a locked-in rate after a year.

3-Year Contract

One downside of Protect America is its 3-year (36-month) contract. Some home security companies offer their home security services with shorter contracts or no contracts at all; however, a 36-month contract is quite common within the industry. The reason companies can have shorter or no contract is because they require a customer to purchase the home security system upfront.

Cancellation Policy

If you do decide to cancel Protect America’s services, you will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance of your contract. Other home security companies may only require you to pay a percentage of the remaining balance. Paying the full balance can end up costing you hundreds of dollars if you haven’t been on the contract very long. Be sure to research Protect America’s terms before committing to a contract.

IQ Panel 2 (Upgraded Control Panel)

The packages listed above all come with the Simon XT control panel for you to arm and disarm your system. Interested parties can upgrade to the IQ Panel 2 – a touch screen hub that connects all of your smart home devices. This panel has a built-in camera and a glass break detector.

Motion Detectors: $99/each

There is also the option to install motion detectors. These motion sensors are easy to install, and they detect both heat and movement within a 25-foot range in a 90-degree arc. They can be installed in the corners of rooms, and it is recommended to put these in high traffic areas in your home.

Window and Door Sensors: $39/each

Protect America offers several different types of sensors. They have the door and window sensors which detect whenever the door or window is opened. The Protect America door and window sensors are wireless microsensors which means they do not have to be plugged into your wall and are hidden out of the way. It is advised that customers place a sensor on every door and window for optimum security.

Glassbreak detector: $99/each

Protect America’s equipment includes a glassbreak detector. With this device, an alarm will trigger if glass breaks while your system is armed. The alarm works wirelessly and picks up sound within a 20-foot radius.

August Smart Lock Pro: $229

This is a deadbolt door lock that you can control from your mobile app for keyless access to your house. One of the Z-wave devices from Protect America.

Keychain remote: $49

Remote that you keep on your keys to arm and disarm the alarm at your home. Works up to 100 feet. Includes a flashlight and an alarm sound.

Indoor Camera: $100

Users will want to place Protect America’s video surveillance cameras in high traffic areas, like by door entries/exits and hallways. Protect America enables users to view video surveillance through their “Smart Connect App.” Live footage from the camera can be viewed at any time from anywhere as long as they have a WiFi connection. The camera starts recording during an alarm or as scheduled. Includes night vision and two-way audio.

Doorbell Camera: Price Varies

This video doorbell camera is wired to your home and begins automatically recording when anyone approaches your front door.

    After a power outage, my main component wouldn’t connect to the cell network. When I called for assistance, I put my number in the queue for a call back – twice. A call back never happened. When I finally got through their online chat function, the person claimed they were the only one available (at 7pm EST) to help and proceeded to walk me thru incompetent instructions via text. I asked for a phone and they refused. I am going elsewhere.

    I tried to cancel my services with this company and the agent gave me the run around. In the end he said he was not able to cancel and ask me call another time. My jaw dropped. I called again and this time the lady kept me on the phone nearly half an hour trying to talk me out of cancelling. She then said l had to pay for the next month in order to cancel so l agreed to that so they took it via auto pay as l always paid for 5yrs. They were supposed to send me rhe cancellation form via email for me to sign and they didn’t. Once again I called again and there was no record of me ever calling to cancel they said and they said they would send it this time. At this point l was so frustrated l canceled the autopay. 2 months later they called demanding 2 months worth of services. Please stay away from them. I will seek counsel at this point because they will continue to bill me.

    I was working on a deal with the sales rep. Floor/sales manager gets on and delivers a great offer. I asked him if something would be included and he said he’d have to check. I asked if I could sleep on it then he countered to meet him half way and that the sales rep will call before he gets off (6PM PST). I never got a call. I e-mailed the rep the next day and ask if the offer still stands. He said no and that was only for the 1st time caller. I let him know that he was suppose to call me the night before but I didn’t receive a call. He said he was too busy working with other customers. I get it. So I missed out on a deal ok. At this time since I’ve already missed out then I figured I can take my time. I was at a gas station trying to get to work (I should have never answered) and he’s pressuring me to make a decision right there and then. It’s unbelievable how he was acting at this point. I told him that I felt pressured but he didn’t seem to care or provide any solution/help. He was such a nice guy the day before. They didn’t hold their end of the deal to call me back and I missed out? I called to shop since I was getting a rather good deal from a competitor. Protect America had a great offer but since I didn’t get the call back and then the follow up response I got in the morning it was easy for me to make a decision. My current service and the other competitor is giving me FREE equipment! Monthly is slightly higher than that of PA but this is like giving a better tip to a server who had great service.

    They offer a reasonable rate that is quite competitive when comparing the things that I got and the wireless service. Being able to install it myself made it so I understand the system better. I appreciate the company’s response when the alarm goes off even if it is not an emergency. I can get immediate responses when I call or ask a question and appreciate that too.

    The guy that sold it to me worked with me very well. He was very helpful with what we could do and how we could design it and there was not price gouging. He understood that we didn’t have the interned required for camera security. It is fairly updated but not really easy to use.

    I was with Protect America for over 10 years. They were not monitoring my home but was taking money out monthly. I was paying $50, but they never told me that the inside camera, doorbell camera should have been included years ago. Now, I am done with them and looking elsewhere, you should too! By the way, To cancel your contract with them is a nightmare!!

    It took forever to cancel my service, at least six months, and they kept charging all a long the way. I had pulled the system in March, told them it was not being used (they had to know, should have known!), but because the account was in my divorced wife’s name I needed her to do the cancellation, despite she was the one who had moved out. When she finally called they delayed with her too. Customer Service is a lay-up when you do it right. These people are awful.

    The system was free and I only had to pay the first months monitoring fee. 10 window sensors and a very nice panel showed up quickly. It took all of ten minutes to install the system and about twenty minutes for customer service to run through testing the system with me over the phone. I’ve never heard of Protect America before buying the system, but I’ve recommended it to all my friends and family since I’ve installed it!
