Protect America is one of the most affordable home security companies in the industry. While other companies will charge anywhere from $99 to over $400 in upfront costs, Protect America currently charges $0 in upfront fees. Protect America offers five different home security packages ranging from a locked-in rate at an average of $43.99 per month which is significantly cheaper than competing home security companies. Each package comes with a free lifetime warranty, meaning Protect America will ship replacement parts for all defective equipment at no charge for as long as you are a customer. Once you sign a contract with Protect America, your rate is locked in. They will not raise your monthly monitoring fees as long as you are under contract.

Despite Protect America’s affordability, the company sacrifices nothing in terms of quality. Protect America now offers the new Simon XTi, a modern, sleek, and innovative control panel which integrates seamlessly with your smartphone through the Protect America mobile app. In addition to a wide array of home security features (including motion detector, night vision cameras, door window sensors, glass break sensors and more), the company offers a number of home automation solutions to help you control your security system remotely. Protect America’s SMART Connect mobile app controls door locks, lighting, and appliances, arms/disarms your entire security system, and streams or records live footage from up to two of your security cameras simultaneously. Protect America offers flexible monitoring options for nearly every budget. Home security monitoring can be conducted via landline (least expensive), broadband, and cellular communication. Few home security companies provide all three monitoring services.

Protect America comes highly recommended by its customers. Customers who left reviews on our site have been boasting about Protect America’s customer service. They also note that Protect America’s do-it-yourself security systems, which are shipped right to your door, are very easy to install. Protect America has simplified the self-installation process with 24/7 support and a collection of online video tutorials. Their lifetime warranty on equipment helps give peace of mind both when installing the system and using it knowing that if something breaks or no longer functions properly, Protect America will replace it free of charge. Protect America serves customers in all 50 states, which is somewhat rare in the home security industry. Many of its competitors have a much more limited national reach.

The Bad

  • Lengthy 36-Month Contract
  • Cancellation Policy
  • Video Streaming Not Available with the Landline Monitoring Service

One thing that we did not like about Protect America is its 36-month contract and its cancellation policy. Other home security companies offer their home security services with much shorter contracts or no contracts at all. And if it so happens that you decide to cancel Protect America’s service, you will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance of your contract. Other home security companies may only require you to pay a percentage of the remaining balance (some as low as 20%). Paying the full balance can end up costing you hundreds of dollars if you haven’t been on the contract very long..

New customers have 30 days from the date their package was shipped to return their equipment without being bound to the 36-month contract. And while live and recorded video streaming is available on Protect America’s broadband and cellular monitoring services, it is not available with landline monitoring, meaning customers will need to pay extra for this important security feature.

Customers don’t like the 36-month contract either and have reported several issues revolving around the contract. Other customers complained that Protect America’s equipment was not functioning properly, specifically window sensors and door sensors triggering false alarms.

The Bottom Line

Based on our research, you likely won’t find a more affordable home security company than Protect America. It is a solid home security company with packages starting at only $19.99 per month with no upfront or installation costs. Protect America’s lifetime equipment warranty is a special feature that few other home security companies can match. It should be noted, however, if you are looking to hire a company to professionally install your home security system then Protect America is not for you. Protect America’s 36-month contract and cancellation policy may deter you from purchasing its service, but given the high volume of positive user reviews praising Protect America’s customer service, it’s easy to understand why most of Protect America’s customers renew their contracts more than once. Protect America is a great choice for those looking to customize their home security system solution. Protect America is a good self-install alarm system option. It comes with both the most equipment and the least amount of upfront costs.

    I'm AMAZED by this company! I had been with ADT for 13 years! ADT wouldn't help me with their equipment, so I researched other companies. I found Protect America and I'm so happy that I switched! We had NO out of pocket expense! I'm now paying less for wireless than I was with ADT for a landline connection! My husband was able to install with no problem. This company treats you the way companies should treat someone! Derek explained everything to me, helped me figure out what I needed, without trying to upsale me and was super helpful!     This system was acquired to replace my 3-year old ADT system. Much more robust, the monthly fee is considerably lower and does not increase like ADT has done, and the sensors are pre-loaded so installation is a charm. The APP for iPad, IPhone or Android is very easy to load and use. Beats the crap out of using those small hand FOBs (but they are included also).Read More

    Haven’t used mine in months, adhesives fell off after less than 6 months, would go off in middle of the night and scare us half to death, replaced the batteries in them several times of the course of the first 2 years I had it, then when I asked for an early termination fee etc. they made me pay full cancellation for a HORRIBLE experience. I was never late on any payments and quite frankly they charged me to much to begin with for crappy equipment!! Do not recommend. You can get good equipment and updated smart home equipment for the same monthly charge!

    I was not too thrilled that the guy who came from Protect America to install my equipment drew a big hole in my wall. He was there for 6 hours as well, so the installation is terrible. But I would say its a good value for only about 30 bucks a month.

    I think this company is very affordable, and I like that I can install it myself. I also like that they send me emails when someone goes in and out of my house. The equipment works well with no problems, and the system is modern and seems up to date. I do think Protect America should add free cameras or a door bell camera.

    I really enjoy the ability I have to control my security system from my phone while I’m anywhere in the world. I think Protect America should make it so that their system is compatible with other components from other unknown name brand names.     I love the motion sensors. Any time someone goes past them, or breaks in, the alarm is reported to police. Every time I’ve called into them, they respond every time and immediately. I do think the amount I pay every month is quite high.

    “I did a lot of research on a couple companies before Protect America – they didnÕt work out. So I did some more digging around and finally compared Protect America to Vivint and Protect America got to me faster. They responded to my emails, calls, I liked their program, they fit within my budget, and we went with them.

    There have been a couple of times that I have called in for help, and they fulfill my request. The equipment is good, the only complaint I have is there are a couple of monitors that had two sided tape on them. They don’t stick very well, but work when they need to. The camera is good, so generally I’m pleased. The equipment is accessible and easy to use.”

    I appreciate how patient customer support is with me. They send and tell me what I’m supposed to do. I like their equipment so much, that I’m thinking of ordering more. The dashboard is a little problem for me. I have to figure it out every time how to turn it on by hand. I wish I was more comfortable with turning it on instead of having to do it manually.

    From what seen, the price is very reasonable and actually lower than some of the others. We needed to get the system in a hurry, and they worked with us to do that. They actually had it to us the next day as a matter of fact. We’ve had a couple of alarm situations, and they’ve been quick to call and resolve those with us. It’s been a good experience overall. It’s simple, easy to install, and works.

    First of all I noticed Protect America’s customer service. The person I dealt with explained everything so thoroughly and also they have the best deal by far. I had talked to A.D.T and there was quite a cost to us. I was able to get the equipment and install it ourselves and the equipment was free. A.D.T was going to be over a thousand dollars. Protect America was also very patient with us and took their time to explain things very well. The only thing was that they had a contract with the computer guys on the camera and I actually found that easy to install myself.

    Everything works the way it is supposed to, and probably the best thing about Protect America is the ability to turn the system on or off on my wife’s phone. They are really competitive with prices and call you right away if something happens.

    Every time I call them, I don’t have to wait on the phone for too long. They’re also very profession and very helpful. One day my wife came in and she put in the wrong code and she couldn’t get out, but it was handled. The cops came out and everything worked out well. They get directly to the point and get you going on a plan immediately. All of the equipment is on point. If anybody comes through the front door when the alarm is on, it goes off immediately.

    Customer support was really good in helping me set up the system, and helping answer any questions I had when there were issues. I had an issue installing the camera, and wasn’t able to connect it to my internet. I’ve also had a couple of the sensors fall off of windows and had to go purchase more. I think they should make the camera work so it’s easier for people to hook it up to their internet. I’ve already told a lot of my family and friends about Protect America because everyone notices it when they come in my house. They hear the sensor every time the door or if a window is open and everyone think it’s awesome ,but it is a little sensitive to my children. They wanna go up and touch it and play with it but other than that it’s been awesome. We really, really enjoyed having it. I’m so much safer in my house now.

    Customer service has been very helpful to me. I think the security system is pretty good, but a certain adapter unit comes out and sometimes the system isn’t compatible with some of the doors I have in my house. I love how convenient the system is, because I can access it on my phone app. Overall, Protect America was the most cost effective for our small business.

    Anytime I accidentally set the alarm off, somebody from the company calls right away. We’ve never had any problems with it, but we appreciate their quick reaction time. I’m suppose to do a monthly check on the system, but I haven’t done it in awhile. I think they should send out reminders for that because I always forget.

    Once you get rid of service, they make u wait 30 days to cacel and then they add additional time to the 30day cancellation. My husband cancelled service on July 5th they said it would take 30 days to cancel, which is August 5th, however they tell me that the service can’t be cancelled until August 31st. And by this time another payment will come out. I paid for July- we did not use this service, I pay for August and we did not use their service and by the time August 31st come they will take out another payment for another month that I’m not going to use it. Once your contract is up it should be canceled and that does not take 30 days.

    Stop stealing money from people because no one wants your service. It does not take a month to push a button in the system to cancel service.

    I would never do business with this company again. I sold this business a few years ago and the buyer cancelled the contract with a few months to go. They never informed the current owner that they had a few months left and them came after me personally. Avoid them at all cost!

    I have had service for a while and this summer I am traveling and will be away from my home for several months. Due to thunderstorms in Florida it is normal for power to go off and back on. My Internet router resets and my cameras (not from Protect America) reboot when power comes back on and work fine. The Protect America system has gone offline and they cannot restart it without me being at the house. They cannot confirm whether or not I have protection other than the alarm would go off if the house was intruded, but they cannot confirm whether they would receive the signal. USELESS if that’s the case.

    Called and the operator was very knowledgeable and easy to understand along Eleuthera being helpful. Set up was easy and quick. It’s so easy my three year old and five year old can control the settings. Price was great and nothing was hidden. Couldn’t be happier and feel more safe.

    Run don’t walk. This company doesn’t inform you of the equipment you purchase. They send you out equipment through the mail and the representatives lie to you over the phone. You are better off going with Vivint or ADT. Your monthly bill might be higher but it’s worth it for a piece of mind. Don’t waster your time with protect America. They don’t care about the happiness of there customers just about the money.

    Illegal, Fraudulent, Unethical when you try to cancel the “service.” Even after cancelling in writing, they continue to charge and harass you via phone and email. Their equipment is faulty and leads to numerous False Alarms which the government fines you for.

    This company is a complete scam. DO NOT USE THEM! They have the worst customer service and will do anything they can to NOT help you. We had two false alarms called on us while we were at work because our 15 lbs dog set off the motion even though it was supposed to handle up to 50 lbs of movement and then they continued to charge us for over a year after we moved out of our house. Absolute waste of money.

    They are a rip-off. Customer service is the worst. Cancelled my account and sent equipment back before 30 days, they still charged me and refused to cancel the account. They told me they had my social security number and could mess up my credit whiythey did. I have reported them to the BBB and still nothing. I have read the reviews and I am not the only one they have done this to. They pretty much do what they want and get away with it. Do not choose protect America for home security or you will regret it.

    Protect America fits my budget. There is one thing I don’t like – that it takes 45 seconds after we leave the house for the alarm to go on. I don’t like that because somebody could still break in in those 45 seconds before we could get notified that someone is in.

    I think they’re very difficult to get a hold of. I spoke to multiple people and I’ve done their online chat and had to have feedback from multiple people.Their support staff is not very knowledgeable. The system does what it’s suppose to but there are limited options on our home channel. I wish there were ways to turn it down or up to change the volume or mute it temporarily.

    The equipment is easy to install and you can do it yourself. It takes the hassle out of having to schedule someone to come in and do it for you. Customer service is very quick to respond and they’re helpful. Not only are your calls answered promptly but if you need assistance they have an online chat where they respond quickly to you as well.

    Was told by representative that my Mother’s account would end if she goes into nursing home. My Mother is 85 years old and this company is trying to make her pay for a contract that as power of attorney I helped her open. Now that she is no longer in home she must pay for a service she is not getting. What a SHAME. This company would take advantage of the elderly. I will be spreading the word. So SAD. I guess it will end up in court. Good luck in getting a Judge to make a elderly woman who is in 24 hour care to pay for something she is not using.

    This system is awful! I had to hire an electrician to put in system they said it was wireless! We spent days on in setting it up! And now to be able to see anything on your screen it’s absolutely ridiculous, someone could steal me blind before the stupid pictures load! I should have gone to Lowe’s and bought me a system and could have saved tons of money. Do not buy this crap!
