No Upfront Equipment Costs

Protect America is one of the most affordable home security companies in the industry. While other companies will charge anywhere from $99 to over $400 in upfront costs, Protect America currently charges $0 in upfront fees.

Monthly Fees as Low as $19.99

Protect America offers five different home security packages ranging from a locked-in rate starting at $19.99 per month, which is significantly cheaper than competing home security companies.

Lifetime Equipment Warranty

Each package comes with a free lifetime warranty, meaning Protect America will ship replacement parts for all defective equipment at no charge for as long as you are a customer. Once you sign a contract with Protect America, your rate is locked in. They will not raise your monthly monitoring fees as long as you are under contract.

The Choice to Buy or Lease Equipment

After a customer purchases a security system and decides to further their remote access by including home automation they can choose to either purchase the pieces separately (which give the homeowner full ownership of the equipment) or lease a set of equipment which costs the homeowner zero money down (though this option means Protect America maintains the rights to the equipment). The choice to buy or lease is a nice option which many home security companies do not provide.

Variety of Equipment Options

Protect America offers various home security equipment for regular home security systems as well as for home automation features. Here are some details regarding Protect America’s offered equipment:

Mini Pin Pad/Talking Wireless Keypad

The Mini Pin Pad is not necessary, but it does add a level of security in the event of an emergency. These pin pads allow you to call for help and alert the authorities/responders. These pin pads also allow homeowners to alarm and disarm the security system by typing in a personalized code. The pin pad allows for additional convenience and ensures the security system is armed when it needs to be.

Protect America Video Surveillance Cameras

Users will want to place Protect America’s video surveillance cameras in high traffic areas, like by door entries/exits and hallways. Protect America enables users to view video surveillance through their “Smart Connect App.” Live footage from the camera can be viewed at any time from anywhere as long as they have a WiFi connection. The video is of high quality and can be easily accessed.

Sensors

Protect America offers several different types of sensors. They have the door and window sensors which detect whenever the door or window is opened. The Protect America door and window sensors are wireless microsensors which means they do not have to be plugged into your wall and are hidden out of the way. It is advised that customers place a sensor on every door and window for optimum security.

Protect America also has garage door sensors. There can be several thousands of dollars stored in garages, which means it is critically important to protect it. Keep your cars, bikes, tools, and other items stored in your garage safe by installing a garage door sensor. These sensors are mounted on the inside of your garage door.

There is also the option to install motion detectors. These motion sensors are easy to install, and they detect both heat and movement within a 25-foot range in a 90-degree arc. They can be installed in the corners of rooms, and it is recommended to put these in high traffic areas in your home.

Lastly, there is the Glass Break Sensor that is to be mounted in an open space near windows or glass doors that you would like to secure.

New Simon XTi Control Panel

Despite Protect America’s affordability, the company sacrifices nothing in terms of quality. Protect America now offers the new Simon XTi, a modern, sleek, and innovative control panel which integrates seamlessly with your smartphone through the Protect America app. The Simon XT Touchscreen allows you to voice commands and offers a substitute for when you cannot check the main control panel.

Home Automation Options

In addition to a wide array of home security features (including motion detector, night vision cameras, door window sensors, glass break sensors and more), the company offers a number of home automation solutions to help you control your security system remotely through Protect America’s SMART Connect app.

Protect America’s basic home automation package runs through the home security control panel. The home automation equipment adds wireless control to everyday household tasks such as turning lights off and on and controlling various appliances. It can even lock and unlock doors. All of this equipment is able to function together through Z-Wave technology, which is the most widely recognized standard for home automation. Also, the system is a self-install product, meaning the homeowner can install the new equipment at their convenience.

Lengthy 36-Month Contract

One downside of Protect America is its 36-month contract and its cancellation policy. Some home security companies offer their home security services with shorter contracts or no contracts at all; however, a 36-month contract is quite common within the industry.

If you do decide to cancel Protect America’s services, you will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance of your contract. Other home security companies may only require you to pay a percentage of the remaining balance. Paying the full balance can end up costing you hundreds of dollars if you haven’t been on the contract very long. Be sure to research Protect America’s terms before committing to a contract.

Cancellation Policy

New customers have 30 days from the date their package was shipped to return their equipment without being bound to the 36-month long-term contract.

Video Streaming Not Available with the Landline Monitoring Service

While live and recorded video streaming is available on Protect America’s broadband and cellular monitoring services, it is not available with landline monitoring, meaning customers will need to pay extra for this important security feature.

The Bottom Line

Based on our research, you likely won’t find a more affordable home security company than Protect America. It is a solid home security company with packages starting at only $19.99 per month with no upfront or installation costs.

Protect America’s lifetime equipment warranty is a special feature that few other home security companies can match. It should be noted, however, if you are looking to hire a company to professionally install your home security system then Protect America is not for you.     Setting up this alarm system was relativey simple. However, use of the main console in it’s entirety can be challenging. I believe the Operating Manuals Technical Writers could have done a much better job in helping the uniiniated to under stand the complexities with the “system programming.” Nonetheless, the help I’ve received from customer service personnel (over the phone) has been outstanding and makes up for the instructional shortcomings. Talked with three different personnel and all were very helpful. Plus I know if I encounter more challenges I can count on their help again. “Old timer with short attention span.”

    We had multiple issues with the product and components not working or coming off doors and then I had a terrible experience canceling my service after having it for more than four years! We called in December and gave them every necessary security to cancel. Then we gave an additional written notice on on our January bill but they still wouldn’t cancel. I gave them the correct email address for their “required” signature yet they sent to wrong email. And after four phone calls, long delays on phone calls they offered to send me a new email but it wouldn’t be accessible for 24 hours and expired in seven days! Then they tried to charge me for the additional months I was trying to cancel jumping through their illusions hoops! After all I went through, the multiple hassles, then the new cancellation email required me to pay for the extra months I didn’t have service before it would let me cancel. Finally I think I’m cancelled and recorded customer service team leader, Tiffanie , I get an email again asking for verification of my e signature!!

    I’ve got a fairly large home (4,635 sqft) and I just got my system, all sensors, all detectors, and an lifetime warranty for nothing out of pocket? No brainer people!! If you’re paying anything upfront RUN. There are better deals out there. – Jenny

    I have had other security companies in the past and while Protect America offers about the same security, I love their customer service (as well as the product). We have a few alarms go off and police were dispatched immediately. We just renewed our contract for another 3 years, with upgraded equipment and happy to be a customer of such a great company! Yes, yall can get our business!

    Protect America refused to help my 84 year old mother 2 years in to her 3 year contract after my father passed away. Her doctor deemed her medically disabled and she moved in with my sister who already has a system. Even with ADA designation and a doctors letter, Protect America expects 100% of contract even though they are no longer monitoring any system on her behalf. Received 4 conflicting resolutions from PA personnel, from no problem she is disabled and we will cancel after you are transferred to that department, to we will absolutely nothing to resolve this problem. It takes 24-48 hours to speak to a supervisor. Protect America deserves a negative number. I am appalled by their lack of reasonable service

    I dont remember having a contract, as soon as my contract was over i called to cancel, on the phone for a long time. the agent said i have to give a 30 day notice which is a bunch of crap when your contract is over and you fulfilled the time it should be over. DONT DO BUSINESS.WITH THIS COMPANY

    They have been okay so far. Customer service is absolutely amazing, minus one call which made me feel as though I was a complete idiot. My concerns are that sometimes when I pick the house and wait for the final beep, people will still be able to come in without the alarm going off. My partner (who lives with me) was also kicked out of our house once by the cops after one of the reps sounded the emergency code and the cops thought she was a burglar. So that was not a fond experience.

    I signed a 3 year contract 13 months ago in a house that I owned. I just sold my house and per the contract home security, intercom, and home surveillance systems are to stay in the house and considered personal property such as the blinds, curtains, etc. Protect America has zero concern that you are moving and the equipment has to stay. They just want their monthly money or the remaining balance in full.

    Needless to say they will NOT be going in my new home NOR will i suggest to anyone else to use them.

    Equipment – in addition, i had the extra key pad which they could never get to work nor would they replace it for me. The cameras both stopped working. Getting them to fix it over the phone or in person is almost impossible. They refer you to their website etc. So the last year I haven’t even used the crappy stuff.

    I’ve had this system for 7+ years, easy to set up, I understand they have newer system available , may try it but the old ones working great. The motion sensor to me is the most important part, even if they get through door/window the motion sensor picks up signal very quick. Also great protection for family member that’s left alone when everyone else leaves for work, My most recent experience was with cust service Mark, very helpful and professional. He offered new products and told me the features, we discussed pros & cons and their was no high pressure sales, he thanked me for being long time customer and said they were always available.if I needed anything. Wish more larger American companies would take notice and learn what excellent customer should be like!
