Protect America is one of the most affordable home security companies in the industry. While other companies will charge anywhere from $99 to over $400 in upfront costs, Protect America currently charges $0 in upfront fees. Protect America offers five different home security packages ranging from a locked-in rate at an average of $43.99 per month which is significantly cheaper than competing home security companies. Each package comes with a free lifetime warranty, meaning Protect America will ship replacement parts for all defective equipment at no charge for as long as you are a customer. Once you sign a contract with Protect America, your rate is locked in. They will not raise your monthly monitoring fees as long as you are under contract.

Despite Protect America’s affordability, the company sacrifices nothing in terms of quality. Protect America now offers the new Simon XTi, a modern, sleek, and innovative control panel which integrates seamlessly with your smartphone through the Protect America mobile app. In addition to a wide array of home security features (including motion detector, night vision cameras, door window sensors, glass break sensors and more), the company offers a number of home automation solutions to help you control your security system remotely. Protect America’s SMART Connect mobile app controls door locks, lighting, and appliances, arms/disarms your entire security system, and streams or records live footage from up to two of your security cameras simultaneously. Protect America offers flexible monitoring options for nearly every budget. Home security monitoring can be conducted via landline (least expensive), broadband, and cellular communication. Few home security companies provide all three monitoring services.

Protect America comes highly recommended by its customers. Customers who left reviews on our site have been boasting about Protect America’s customer service. They also note that Protect America’s do-it-yourself security systems, which are shipped right to your door, are very easy to install. Protect America has simplified the self-installation process with 24/7 support and a collection of online video tutorials. Their lifetime warranty on equipment helps give peace of mind both when installing the system and using it knowing that if something breaks or no longer functions properly, Protect America will replace it free of charge. The Bad

One thing that we did not like about Protect America is its 36-month contract and its cancellation policy. Other home security companies offer their home security services with much shorter contracts or no contracts at all. And if it so happens that you decide to cancel Protect America’s service, you will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance of your contract. Other home security companies may only require you to pay a percentage of the remaining balance (some as low as 20%). Paying the full balance can end up costing you hundreds of dollars if you haven’t been on the contract very long..

New customers have 30 days from the date their package was shipped to return their equipment without being bound to the 36-month contract. And while live and recorded video streaming is available on Protect America’s broadband and cellular monitoring services, it is not available with landline monitoring, meaning customers will need to pay extra for this important security feature.

Customers don’t like the 36-month contract either and have reported several issues revolving around the contract. Other customers complained that Protect America’s equipment was not functioning properly, specifically window sensors and door sensors triggering false alarms.

The Bottom Line

Based on our research, you likely won’t find a more affordable home security company than Protect America. It is a solid home security company with packages starting at only $19.99 per month with no upfront or installation costs. Protect America’s lifetime equipment warranty is a special feature that few other home security companies can match. It should be noted, however, if you are looking to hire a company to professionally install your home security system then Protect America is not for you. Protect America’s 36-month contract and cancellation policy may deter you from purchasing its service, but given the high volume of positive user reviews praising Protect America’s customer service, it’s easy to understand why most of Protect America’s customers renew their contracts more than once. Protect America is a great choice for those looking to customize their home security system solution. Protect America is a good self-install alarm system option.     I'm AMAZED by this company! I had been with ADT for 13 years! ADT wouldn't help me with their equipment, so I researched other companies. I found Protect America and I'm so happy that I switched! We had NO out of pocket expense! I'm now paying less for wireless than I was with ADT for a landline connection! My husband was able to install with no problem. This company treats you the way companies should treat someone! Derek explained everything to me, helped me figure out what I needed, without trying to upsale me and was super helpful!     This system was acquired to replace my 3-year old ADT system. Much more robust, the monthly fee is considerably lower and does not increase like ADT has done, and the sensors are pre-loaded so installation is a charm. The APP for iPad, IPhone or Android is very easy to load and use. Beats the crap out of using those small hand FOBs (but they are included also).Read More

    Please do not get this service if you are a military family and have no control of where you will be deployed. This company will not work with you. Also, The equipment is very poor and sends false alarm messages. Will not be returning after this experience or recommending to other military families.

    This company SUCKS!! They make it hard to cancel when you want to leave by arguing with you to stay. and give you a 30 day notice but end up charging you for 2 months. The battery is junk in the head unit, you pay 54 a month for the service, but if the battery is bad in their product, they want you to pay for a new battery. Also I had a sensor fall off my garage door once before I left work. They called me right away and sent someone there to check things out. I got off of work 10 mins later got home and noticed the sensor for the garage door on the floor. Almost 1 hour later after they called me the security guy showed up. Now I did not want to answer the door to see what I am paying for. The security guard was almost retirement age, all he did was ring the doorbell twice. Left a card in the door jamb and got in his truck and drove off. I am assuming most thieves who break into your home are not the brightest individuals, they grab what they want real fast and get out, more than enough time before a security guard shows up to your home. Also I have noticed the app is offline a lot of times, when I leave work ithe app does not work. I get home and not a peep from the alarm the whole time. When I leave later to do a errand ,then the alarm will kick off when I leave my home and get a call from protect America when I am driving.at this point I purchased a diy home alarm I have been testing out the last 2 months, not one single issue. Once I buy all the sensors to cover all my doors and windows, and buy a camera or two. That’s it, no more $54 a month for a junk product with crappy service. I will monitor the system myself now with the new alarm I bought. If I see anyone in the home with the cameras, I will then call the police. All protect America is, is a middle man between you and the security guards. I just removed the middle man out of the equation and saved me thousands of dollars over years from using their product and services.

    I have been with Protect America for 3 years. When I signed up I was quoted a price which included the equipment. After 3 years the equipment was paid off and my bill was supposed to drop. I called them and they said “we don’t do that but we can offer an upgrade”. I explained I did not want the upgrade but I wanted my bill to drop to $30 like I was quoted. I even still have the original paperwork which stated this. They absolutely refused to honor their agreement. They are completely untrustworthy! They will lie to get your business and not honor the agreement. They wouldn’t even look at my signed contract. Do not, under any circumstances, do business with this company.     My incredibly frustrating and worrying situation with Protect America is as follows:

    I had Protect America for several years. I went to test my camera a couple of weeks ago and found that it was not working. I then went online to try to figure out what was going on and found that my system had not recorded anything in 2 years. I called the company and they could not even tell me the last time that my system showed as armed, even though I had been arming it every night and even though my panel was saying that the system was armed and ready (they verified that it should show them a log when the system is armed and other events). They blamed me for not checking the system monthly.

    I understand it is a recommendation but it does not say the system will fail if you don’t check it every month. I have gone through having a baby and house construction over that time so it hasn’t been the top of my mind. The initial customer service person said the only thing they could do would be to send out a new panel. I then asked to speak with their supervisor who was the only helpful person in the process.

    The supervisor admitted there was a big problem with their system and that they would do everything they could to make it right since I had been paying $50 per month for a couple of years for security that was not working (and since my family and my house had not actually had any protection for years). They later called back with specific things they were willing to do including financial compensation, monthly rate reduction, and equipment upgrades which I found agreeable and was willing to continue being a customer because of. This person had to look into something and asked to call me back the next day.

    A different person called me the following day and said that I would need to sign a 4 year contract because it had to be financially acceptable for their company. It didn’t matter that I tossed away $1,200 for monthly payments over the span of two years with my security system not working or the fact that my family and my house were not protected for that entire time.

    I hoped that over the many phone calls I received and made that we would be able to resolve the situation, and was very patient with them. When I told them that a four-year contract was not acceptable after having the last two years of service not even working and that I was willing to sign up for one year to give them a chance to earn back my business, they said the minimum they could do was a three-year contract. They did say that I could sign up for a one-year contract, but I would not receive any of the financial compensation or reduced monthly rates that had been previously discussed. When I said that was not acceptable and tried to vent about the fact that a 4 year contract was not mentioned by the person I had spoken with before, the individual hung up on me mid-sentence. I had not raised my voice, used profanity, had not insulted the customer service person, or anything that would warrant someone hanging up on me.

    I called back a few days later to give them one more shot, and asked for a supervisor to look into the fact that the last customer service person had hung up on me. I was told that they would look into it since conversations are recorded, and that it would be passed up the chain. The only contact from Protect America that I received after that was an email to cancel my policy.

    So if you want to throw a lot of hard-earned money in the trash, chance your family’s security to a system that may not work at all, receive customer service that will hang up on you, and if you want a company that will not make reasonable efforts to correct a huge mistake, then go with Protect America. If you want a decent company, go anywhere else.

    I can relate to just about every review I’ve read here and I am frankly quite upset with this company. I called them in August of 2016 to inquire about my contract which was long over, wondering how they could still be debiting my account with no authorization. The smooth talking agent more or less started talking over me and said he was glad to hear from me and would like to test my equipment. Although that’s not what I called for, i went along with it. To my great surprise, he was not able to make any connection whatsoever. He then asked what type of cable service I had. When I said Uverse, he said that Uverse interferes with the type of monitor I have, causing it to work sporadically and he offered to mail me out a new unit that would work. Imagine how foolish I felt to learn that I had been paying them for a real false sense of security since I had Uverse when their agent hooked it up six years ago… Who knows if the equipment ever actually worked properly? 6 years of payments for sporadic service at best and no service at worst.. I told the agent “No don’t send me anything and they could pick this bogus equipment up if they wanted to.” I thought it was a done deal. But, I just discovered that they continued to debit my account as recently as last month. I did a stop payment and they had the audacity to send me a bill through the mail for this month!

    I had this company for five years, and several years after my contract was over. They make it impossible to cancel and continue to bill you. They don’t appear to resolve problems with the BBB. There are bad reviews all over the internet about unethical billing practices. Don’t work with this company!

    Tried to cancel service over 2 years prior to actual date that it was cancelled. Now they want another payment … said they are entitled to another month after receipt of cancellation request. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that she was the supervisor …. her deal is we’ll split the difference with you! How about no … how about I haven’t used your service in over 2 years and you don’t deserve another cent from me. Think twice about this company!

    I would not recommend this company to anyone. They are not upfront about the equipment they sell. They also do not like to refund money on items returned even when providing proof of return. The billing coincides with returned items. Their customer service team and customer service managers lie about refunds. I had to file a complaint with the BBB in order to get my refund. They are still incorrectly billing me and again was lied to regarding my refund. I again will be contacting the BBB and my bank. This company lacks integrity. It’s hard to feel secure knowing that a company that lacks integrity is monitoring the safety of your family.

    At first protect America seemed to be a good security system fit for my family. With no up front cost and easy self installation it was convienet. However, when we had our first problem with our sensors going out (after 1 year) we ran into many problems. We had to call multiple times and each time was told a new sensor would be sent to us. Each time they also tried to “troubleshoot” the problem and nothing ever worked even though they said it was fixed. Multiple nights the alarm system would go off during our sleep because the sensor was bad and could not be fixed remotely like they kept saying. After around 5 phone calls we finally talked to someone who knew what they were doing and we were sent two new sensors. However from one of the times it was “fixed” remotely the settings were now not correct still causing issues. It has been an absolute headache and we will be cancelling as soon as our contract is up. I highly recommend choosing a different sercurity system company!

    I moved to an area where I don’t need a security system. Plus, my homeowners comes bundled with a security system anyway. So I don’t need this service anymore. They have refused to cancel my service or even take me off of autopay. I had to report it as a fraudulent charge to my bank. This is not a security company, it is a theft company.

    I have not had any problems with this company though i have been with them for a little less than a year.The issues that i had was with my internet provider. They told me what to do . i did so called them back and i was back on track. The young lady Elisa who assisted me was awesome. She was on the phone with me for over an hour , very pleasant, She asked me to call her back after i spoke with my internet provider which i did . She was with a customer but called me back when she was available and walked me through the whole process of fixing the issue i had with my camera. What an awesome , amazing employee Elisa is.     This company has terrible customer service. They took out these service technicians. Thinking it’s cheaper and easier for customers use. Technicians that main knows the system and can find out where the problem lies and resolve them. I had histories of false alarms just 2 months after receiving this system and don’t find this easy for my satisfaction. On top of that, this company after I demanded a contract presented a paper work at lease 6 pages long where they just typed your name. I received no confirmation number if it was suppose to be electronic sign. Or even a hand written signature should be valid.

    COMPANY PROTECT AMERICA HAD BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR OVER A DECADE, NEEDED TO CUT BACK EXPENSES FOUND OUT THAT I WAS ON MONTH TO MONTH CONTRACT, AND OWED $ DUE TO EXPIRED CARD. THEN WHEN I WENT TO FINALLY CANCEL I NEEDED TO PAY BALANCE DUE, BUT THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT A POSTAL MONEY ORDER AND I HAD TO GO TO BANK AND GET A CHECK TO PAY OFF BALANCE AND CLOSE ACCOUNT ALSO HAD TO SIGN AUTHORIZING THEM TO CLOSE ACCOUNT.     This is the worst company ever. Don’t do business with them. System fails. Billing cycle makes bills late before you get them. Customer service os none existent and when you want to cancel the service they will keep coming up with excuses to keep billing you. I am now to the point of having to get an attorney to get them to stop billing me and they still don’t care. COMPANY IS A COMPLETE SCAM DON’T UES!!!!!!

    Numerous problems with trying to test to assure the service was working. We spent hours trying to verify that they were actually getting connection with our system. Their own technician finally said that there was only a 50/50 chance that PA might get an alarm from our system. Of course, there was a $180 upgrade that they tried to sell us that was sure to make the system work – yeah, right!
    When we insisted that we were cancelling the contract after almost 4 years – and we were on a month-to-month contract after the 1st 36 months – then they tried to tell us that we’d need to pay 3 months of the service charge to cancel!! (On a month-to-month contract??? Get serious!)
    They kept sending us email cancellation notices, but the cancellation notice continued to state that we owed extra months – and the cancellation request could NOT be edited to correct their contention or to state anything to clarify the situation.
    Incompetent support, unreliable equipment, very poor customer service, and continued demands for monthly charges that we did not owe… get the picture of why I say they rate a “0” for customer satisfaction?

    I would definitely give this company a negative rating if it was at all possible. I never would have agreed to a 3 year contract if I had realized there was no termination option available whatsoever. After less than a year, I have moved to a residence where I do not need this system and they have no sympathy or concern. They will tell you to have a family member or friend take over the service, but that is not an option. I do not recommend them and hope that everyone looking to get a home security service reads all of the reviews that also mirror my situation. Once you’ve signed, you are stuck for three years, no matter what. In this day and time, I don’t believe anyone signs a contract for something that is service oriented so I would keep that in mind that this is a 3 year commitment with no options for termination!

    yes, very big fine print. try to leave the contract early and they charge outrageous fees. they want to pay off the equipment which is no where near that expensive. and the main panel can be easily re used and should be able to return. but no, they want you to use it and then give you another one for a new contract. do yourself a favor and get one of those self monitoring systems. which is basically what protect america does. get the sensors and a panel, install yourself and gt it to ping your iPhone and get a camera option. that way if anything happens it pings, you see the video and if its something then you call the police. leave out the middle man aka protect america.

    NEVER EVER CONSIDER THIS COMPANY!!! They have defective system and create multiple false alarms. You end up in paying fine for false alarms. Cannot come out of the contract even though they have fault system. only way to come out of contract is by paying 3 years of service upfront. I cant imagine how they are running business. This company will rip off your money and absolutely no customer satisfaction. Some of the 5 star reviews must be fake. Minimum 30 minutes wait time to reach customer service department.

    We have been very dissatisfied and overpaying for Protect America services for over 2years now, because they locked us into a 3year contract (yes,… I said 3). Beware, we thought it was only 2year contract to begin with. We finally completed the 3 years with them and they are refusing to lower our service agreement amount (almost $85 and we don’t have monitored cameras) so we are parting ways. I do have to say that their support team (installation and such)has always been helpful when we needed it, but the other people we have had to deal with have always been difficult. I do not recommend this company. Honestly, half the time I’ve wondered if someone actually broke into our house if it would matter with this company, which is not a good feeling.

    worst service all false information they tell customers 15 days for test but till you receive equipment and you set up system it takes 5 to 10 days. and when i called for cancellation they said 15 days from the contract signed. so you get only about 7 days time to test.     I had protect America for 4 years and the system is horrible. The customer service is worse and after I verbally cancelled the account they continued to bill me which I am fighting now. They continually get harassing phone calls and constant emails with no resolution. I have asked them to stop calling and just send to collections but they continue to call and harass me.

    Worst company ever! The equipment is free up front because it’s horrible and they continue to charge you after you cancel! Vivint is a much better company to deal with!!! I strongly recomend them.

    Was scammed by dealer, signed husband’s name. Dealer left no contract and installed system first. No receipts left for money paid. Have disability and lost vision couldn’t see contract. Vector Security expects husband for a security system which should have been voided since the procedure was done correctly and dealer took advantage of me since I told him I was very ill. Memory was foggy,when system was removed no receipt left. Leave contract over night, install when you agreed, was seperated for six months. Customer service was rude and hung up on me every phone call. Poor professional service and as far as I’m concerned take of older people. Procedure’s were not followed, told my granddaughter he signed husband’s name and thought I had power of attorney. He lied and said he left contract and installed next day wrong, he installed then came the rest of this night mare, dealer told me it doesn’t really matter I kept all texts. Scam beware! I had bad credit, seperated against law to make purchases, don’t know how dealer got socials security. Have proof was in critical care, had CT scan on brain. Scam

    BE AWARE OF SCAM!!! this company is signing 3 years agreement without right to cancel without customer signature using stolen SS#. Multiple attempts to terminate illegally signed contract however representatives refuse to resolve any issue without paying off accumulated balance. No proper correspondence or communication. They clearly hide important information about cancelation policy in order to take advantage of customers. Even after 3 years contract is paid off they continue charging the account on monthly basis without any confirmation. Stay away from these scammers.

    A security system should be monitored! False alarms and to find out the thing was unplugged for at least a month…..Think they would nonitor and call that system isn’t online?
    They told me that this is my job to monitor and update the system. Asking what their job was even more confusing.
    I know they have some great people working there, but i haven’t heard from them in years.
    My suggestion is pay a little more, get a better company!

    I’ve had zero problems with these people, had a few sensors go bad but they replaced them at no cost instantly. I’m coming up on 3 years now. And will renew my contract . whenever I have a problem it was taken care of quickly. And usually the problem was something I messed up not them. I have almost 40 sensors on my system and overall I’m very surprised at how little the number of problems have been. The 3 year contract is not a big deal, after all someones going to monitor your system, and if you don’t care for them them after 3 years the equipment that you didn’t pay for (original basic package) is yours. But you’ll have no problems with these people. I don’t.

    I have moni now for a good 10 years never had a problem there customer service is very good. There techs are very good helping with problems. I got camras put in and they did a great. I would recommend moni to all dont read a review that people write. How bad they are. See for your self they are a good company.

    I am giving them a zero because I do not have the opportunity to give them a negative. During last weeks power outages, one of our door monitors started beeping. It has beeped incessantly. Call to the company have done nothing except raised our blood pressure. The person that we spoke to was rude and demeaning. The salesman lied about our contract, customer service has been lousy, and their products is lousy. Lia responded used to let her speak to a supervisor and they have refused to come out and fix our devices. Do not do business with this company. I have posted this on my Facebook page and I hope my nearly 1000 friends will share!

    We have had our security system for approximately 2 years now. Out of the 2 years, it has worked correctly 4 of those 24 months. We had 2 false alarms within the first 3 months, which left us worried to set the alarm. After 1 more false alarm, the City would start sending us a bill for their time to come check out our house.

    Just recently we have moved. When I set up the system in the new house, it would not connect via cellular service. We had to hard wire it to the router. Protect America was accommodating in that they supplied us with an extra keypad to keep by the front door. However, if a burglar comes in and within 60 seconds cuts the internet cord, then no alarm notification is sent to Protect America and subsequently the police.

    After about 10 hours this past weekend of being on the phone with Protect America, we finally have a “working” system. This has been the 5th or 6th time in the past 2 years that we have had to call them for the system not working.

    We have asked about getting out of the contract and there is ZERO leeway. We talked to multiple managers and supervisors and no one will budge. I just don’t understand how a company can hold you to a contract when they aren’t upholding their end of the bargain. I guess legally they are, because they “try” to help us get it working and for the time being it is and all is good on their end. A month later it fails and then we are back in the same boat.

    I guess in summation, the old adage “You get what you pay for” is correct. This is one of the cheapest systems out there and they make sure you know it!

    P.S. – I should add that they did say we could get out of our contract by transferring it to someone else’s name. What??? Why would I stick someone else with this crappy system.

    After paying my bill every month and being a loyal customer for almost 4 years, I moved to a new location and could not use my wireless service that ran on cell phone service. Protect America was unwilling to lower my bill to what they charge everyone else for a phone line (hard wired) service.Keep in mind I was out of contract . I then decided to cancel my service and protect America stated I had to sign something saying I’m going to pay them an extra month of service when I was not even using it and it had been unhooked. After a lot of fighting’ with them , they agreed to waive the fee. However , they still charged my credit card for an extra month. Dishonest and crooked company. Know this before signing all of their catchy papers and signing up.!!!!Beware!!!

    They charge as much money as ADT and they can’t hold a candle to them for the same money. The system was off the wall for almost two hours and they didn’t check to see what was wrong, the excuse was they were busy. I’d been with them for five years and the two times the alarm went off no one came or called!!!!!!!!

    As for delivery and helping you set this up on your own, they are probably 9/10 stars but it feels very shifty from day one and do understand that you are agreeing to 3 YEAR contract with no way out, even if you move and the new house that has another service. They will not work with you at all, rather just try to sneak you into recommitting into another 3 – 4 year service. Also, they try to charge you for the equipment until you say no then magically it is all free. Lastly, the first time I tripped my alarm the police showed up an hour later. I’ll never work with this company again.

    I cannot this is the #1 ranked company? Promised me features and capabilities with service and failed to deliver. Now I am working with BBB and Attorney general to get out contract that they refuse to work with me on… So sad! You promise something at point of sale and then fail to deliver but you expect me to honor your contract even though the company admits that the sales rep should never have promised me those features that ADT offers.

    This company sucks. I have no faith in their system protecting my home. When I tried to cancel my contract they wouldn’t let me out. Even after reviewing the audio in which a customer service rep extended my contract. Additionally, the reps don’t even know what state the customer they are talking to is located. They kept offering to send someone to Arizona to install my equipment. I live in Arkansas. This company sucks. Get a yard sign or a real security company.

    I’ve had the service for 4 months now. My entry door has an usual frame and I didnt think I’d be able to get the sensor to work. I cant remember the reps name but they seriously babied me through, step by step, to make sure we got the sensor and magnet placed right. We did a series of tests and it worked just fine. System and app are easy to use, reps are friendly and helpful.

    I cancelled my contract with protect america for personal reasons within the proper time period that they said I could without affecting my credit. Once I tried to cancel by the date given, I was informed that I still owe another month because I did’nt give them a 30 day notice. Don’t use them.

    We canceled our service over two years ago and are still receiving bills we followed everything that we were supposed to do to cancel our service and they say that they never received anything. This company is a scam. They will not cancel your service. We no longer even have the land line or email that was associated with this account. We updated info and they lost that too. Further more the system never even worked well when we did have it.

    only 1 out of 9 cameras are veiwable on computer or phone. the salesman lied to me from the start when i told him what i wanted these cameras for and where i was putting them. oh yeah that will work just fine. it didnt. they will not work with you besides offering to take back some cameras but will not drop the contract. by the time you hook it all up your self the 30 days is gone. all they want is that monthly payment.

    This was the worst company I have ever dealt with!!! It was very difficult to terminate services. When I complied with their contract to terminate they still charged me for another month of service. I telephoned the company. I was on hold the first time for 20 minutes once they knew I was terminating. Then I told them I had sent the letter terminating. They said I didn’t receive it. I had a return receipt they sent me a termination notice to sign and wanted me to pay for 3 more months. Then they told me I had to cancel within 120 days of termination. That requirement was not in my contract. I sent them prof of my letter and return receipt they said they couldn’t find the letter and wanted ME to trace it, Huh? Finally they said they would terminate and then sent me a contract saying I was responsible for the month. No Way!! I am contacting the State Consumer Protection Agency. I have contacted my credit card company and I will let them spend the hours on the phone with this company!!! Do yourself a favor GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY!!!!

    Horrible customer service! You will get a different answer from each of their employees which leads me to believe they are all liars! They will reassure you that their security system is easy to install and also provides no Hassel returns which is a lie! Please be very leery if you even consider giving them your business! I returned my security system over a month ago because it was impossible to install and I didn’t even receive everything that was promised to me. I am still fighting them for my full refund!
