After two decades in the security industry, Safe Home Security knows that when it comes to protecting families, businesses and valuables, people want the very best in the way of monitored security services.

Pros

This company is very customer-oriented. It is simple to get a quote by filling out a request form on the company's website. Current customers can access their accounts online at any time of day. The company offers free installation and activation when customers purchase a plan, which helps stretch the budget. They also offer a 15% discount on equipment for new customers. The systems offered can also be set to ignore the movement of small animals in the home, so pets don't set off any alarms and cause unnecessary worry.

Cons

This company does not have the best reputation. While businesses are not required to be accredited by the Better Business Bureau, acquiring this accreditation can be seen as a good-faith gesture on the part of the business. We talked to a sales manager that indicated most of their complaints deal with their auto-renewal agreement. We were assured by the manager that Safe Home Security is working hard to improve their score and resolve complaints.

Our Recommendation

Overall, this company is not one of the best security companies out there. There are other more reputable companies that consumers should look at first. These companies have better customer reviews and fewer complaints by consumers.

Safe Home Security Contract Details

Section 3

Monitoring: Company agrees to provide monitoring services for a period of 36 months from the above date.  This agreement shall automatically renew without action by either party under the same terms and conditions for successive periods equal to one month unless either party gives to the other at least sixty days written notice, prior to expiration date, of intention to terminate this Agreement upon any expiration date.  Upon renewal, service will be billed at then-current monitoring fees.

Why it's important

Once the initial contract is over, the monitoring services will automatically renew on a month to month basis unless the home own specifically cancels the agreement in writing at least 60 days before the end of the three year period.

Section 9

Service Repairs to the Clients System: Unless otherwise indicated, the client understands that the monitoring fee covers only the monitoring service and client agrees to pay Company for all service or repairs to the alarm system.  Client hereby agrees to periodically test, at least monthly, observe Client's system, be aware of its operational status in accordance with the operating instructions, and request service if needed.

Why it's important

Any repairs that are needed on the system are the customer's responsibility.  The month fee only covers the monitoring and will not cover any maintenance done to fix the system.

Section 18

Interruption or delay of Service: The Company assumes no liability for delays in installation or interruption of service due to strikes, riots, floods, fires, acts of God or any causes beyond the control of the Company.  The Company will not be required to supply service to the Client while interruption of the service due to any such cause shall continue.

Why it's important

If something happens that interrupts the monitoring of your system the company is not responsible for anything that happens during the period.  For example, long power outages, natural disasters, fire, or any other incident that cuts off service immediately alleviates Safe Home from any responsibilities.

Section 22

Warning and Testing of Equipment: Smoke detectors, panic buttons, medical pendants, and other electronic components operate off A.C. (electric) or battery power.  If batteries become dead or electric power is lost, smoke detectors and other components will not operate and the alarm will not sound or communicate to the central station.  The System and all components should be tested by the Clients at least twice monthly through to the central station to insure the System is functioning.  If the Client discovers malfunctions or desires explanation on system testing, he should contact the company's service department for immediate service.  The Company assumes no liability for periodic testing of the system.

Why it's important

If is your job to check your batteries and equipment functionality twice a month.  If something goes awry and the equipment doesn't work it is your fault for not checking it.

Section 23

Failure to meet payment: In the event of a failure to meet a scheduled payment of any of the charges due and payable on this Agreement, the remainder of this Agreement, including interest of 1.5% per month (18% per year) and the attorney's fees accrued thereon, will be accelerated and become immediately payable in full.

Why it's important

If you fail to make the monthly payments then you will be charged the remainder of the months left on the contract plus interest and attorney's fees.  Although you weren't able to make the one monthly payment, somehow you are required to pay everything listed above in full right away.

Section 27

Increase in service fees: Company shall have the right, at any time, to increase the service fee to reflect any additional governmental fees such as increased taxes, licenses, permits, or fees which Company may incur or which may be charged to Company by any utility or governmental agency relating to the services Company provides and Client agrees to pay the same.  In addition, Company may increase the services fee for any renewal term by giving Client sixty days prior notice.

Why it's important

Safe Home can increase their monthly monitoring fees anytime they get hit with an increase in fees from the government.  For example, if they are charged an extra fee or tax they will pass that cost onto you in the form of increasing the monthly fee.  Also, at the time of contract renewal they can increase your rate by informing you of the increase at least 60 days before the renewal.

Our security system was not working AT ALL. We finally decided to have a new company install a new system. We disconnected it and reinstalled on Sept 6 2019. We NEVER received a call that our system was down but instead was auto renewed continuing until this present time. Shadiest Company I have ever dealt with. Save yourself the aggravation. Buy from a reputable company!

I got a letter in the mail that this company had bought out the LOCAL company I originally hired. My alarm panel stopped working. I created a ticket to get service out here. 5 hours later no response. Called back I said I have NO security can we get a rep out today or tommorrow. He said NO... I said ahhh you are a security company so if I get robbed then are you going to reimburse me? What a silly question huh? I asked if I could get out they said after you pay 1154.00 as you have 19 months left. I said but I never signed with you. They said well we are like mortgages and you can be bought out anytime. I don't rely on my mortgage company to protect my home. I am going to fight this. I am so mad that there is NO mandate that if you sign with a local company they sell to a company not local and you the consumer are stuck? I guess I will fight this.

I was never told or warned there was a contract with my security system. I told them when they installed the system we would be cancelling after the first trial month due to financial issues. never once did anyone tell me at any time that I would be contracted in until 2024 with no way to cancel. I was promised a ring installation system. I have yet to receive one. it's been two months. I have never heard from the company to install my ring. I called them and set an appointment. they never showed or called. So i still don't have my ring and I am paying for this equipment. I have called customer service and have been informed that i signed a contract stating I pay for this service until 2024. even though I told my adviser we would be cancelling. HE NEVER SAID ANYTHING about there being a contract and told me I could still cancel. I have now tried to reach out to this adviser and He will not answer my calls. He texted me, saying I can only text him so he can screenshot anything I am saying in case of being used in court. Customer service wont help me and neither will the corporation. I am stuck paying for this and dealing with these people until 2024. That's thousands of dollars I could be using on my newborn. and I have to deal with these people who are "protecting" my home. I feel very unsafe and violated. I should also note when I called my Adviser he would not answer me, but would answer my moms call, and he told her that my contract would be cancelled. my mom does not live with me and only called to see if he would pick up a different number. I cant get a hold of him. and he lied to my mom. I need a way out of this. People need to be warned of getting stuck into a contract they are told they can cancel. and then you never receive the full amount of equipment you are promised. I'm feeling robbed while paying for home security.

what a SCAMMER!!!so my previous company said is coming to update our house security.and we sign a payment.Then after a week someone went to our account and took off money we thought it was our previous company so we cancel it.After that we received a threat on late bills I thought we already cancel. So we thought it was a scam.And after that they called us and said that we sign a contract with them but we never did.they said on our update day we signed it electronically.I said yeah we did sign something.they said it was our responsibility to read what we sign.Then I said “NO” we sign a payment not no contract.Then I ask them to email us the contract that we don’t even have.Then I notice something on the signature it look nothing like how I sign it was way off it wasn’t even spell right at all.so ask them someone sign my name on that contract.So we made a police report and they won’t accept for cancellation.then they send me to collections. But I refuse to pay.They only car about money not customers safety.were still out of service. This is a horrible scammer company they lied to us that we sign a contract.SO PLEASE DON’T GET SCAM BY THEM!!!!!

I signed a contract with this company over 3 years ago for monitoring service for 36 months. While the service was ok, when I wanted to terminate the contract, their customer service said I needed to notify them in writing. After I sent the letter asking to close my account I received another statement saying I owed them for three months service in advance along with a warranty fee of $30 and a processing fee of $3. I ended up having to pay them or risk having them ruin my credit. Do not do business with this company.

The representative failed to provide us with all the information that I'm reading. The information that he gave us was false. He told us that there would be no charges for any service callus , and that anytime we call they would send a service man. No one has showed up yet after 3 phone calls. The last conversation they said they only have service people in certain states and they have to travel and may not make it to my area.The equipment is terrible. We never received the installation certificate they promised. They've taken 3 payments of $49.99 out of my account this month July 2019 within a 6 day period 2 on the same day and refuse to return it. They should be locked up. We've already contacted the BBB. DO NOT sign with this company.

SCAMMERS: I NEVER saw anyone from this company, never had any equipment installed, never signed any contract with this company...I use ADT and ADT installed a wireless system in my home. Only ADT monitors my system. SHS has no access to my security system yet they continue to bill me and have reported missed payments to the credit bureau. I filled a complaint with the credit bureau and some past charges were removed. BUT SHS now is continuing to bill me. No bills or any correspondence have been sent to my home for months, yet they continue to report missed payments to the credit bureau. DO NOT GET INVOLVED with Safe Home Security in any way {I didn't but look what happened to me}! This company runs their business in a totally unlawful manner. SCAM ARTISTS

This company sucks, I wouldn't recommend it to a dog. The sales people lie about what you are going to get. Just be sure that everything that was promised is done before you sign the contract. The equipment is malfunctioning. When you call for technical issues they make appointments with you and don't show up or call. You sit home waste a half day for nothing. They automatically withdraw unauthorized payments out of your account even when they are not due. Instead of returning your money back into your bank account, they want to add it to your account as a credit. I signed up with them on May 2, 2019. Paid the first month with my debit card. My second month for June was suppose to be free. I have that on paper, but they still went into my account and took two payments out. Not one but two in June. They kept lying to me about putting my money back into my account. Each time I called about it, it was a different story. I had to file a claim through my back to get my money back. I have been through it with this company. I changed over from Frontpoint Security. HUGH mistake. Was with them 3 plus years never had a problem.

Do not sign up with this company.. Long waits on phone questions. They have crappy equipment that after a few months do not work... then when you call about it they don't respond.... the camera's suck. They sign you up for 5 years then scratch it and put 66 months.... TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!

I usually look at reviews before I sign up with a company but was working and left it up to the installer of my video system it has been a disater ever since. When trying to move system took over 30 days to re-install after being promised sooner service. On Friday 6/7/2019 the company made a large unauthorized debit from my account only to tell me a billing error occured that could not be resolved for 5 business day. Horrible Horrible Horrible If I didnt work so hard to keep my credit straight I would just walk away Horrible!!!!!

This is a terrible, terrible company and I have no idea how they are still in business. We sold our home over 2.5 years ago which was 5 years after we signed the original contract. They claimed we signed a new contract after we paid full price to replace our control panel rather than signing a new contract and that we were still under contract for another 3 years. We did not pull the equipment out of our house, so they said there was nothing we could do even to stop services! They ACTUALLY claim they have no way of stopping services and refused to cancel the account! So the people that purchased our home have been stuck with this system they cannot control and we have complete control of it! How is that safe?! Do NOT EVER do business with this company. They don’t care about keeping families safe, they just want your money. When you ask to speak to a manager because the customer service reps laugh in your face, they conveniently are never in the office. We tried to cancel yet again today and were told it will be ANOTHER year. Our bank has stopped payment. We filed a complaint with the office of the attorney general a year ago but it is a long process. They are actually being sued AGAIN for contempt of failing to change their misleading business practices. Don’t trust them to protect your loved ones, there are so many reputable companies that will make sure you are their priority.

Had SHS for many years, first under old house and now on current house. Service on old house years ago (18 years ago) was excellent. Now?... No. I suspect that the service is not actually working correctly. Due to financial reasons I called and cancelled the service recently. They told me to send a letter to an email address. I did. Heard nothing back. Assumed it was cancelled. Then, received another bill with a late fee. I called back. They claimed I never cancelled. I did. They claimed that I had just renewed. I hadn’t. They claimed they had a signature. They didn’t, and when I asked them to prove it they searched file and found old contracts. Then they said I signed a 5 year contract last year. I did not. I have only ever agreed to one year terms of service. They said they will continue to bill me until the 5 year contract is up, service provided or not. I demanded that they cancel. They said I had to resubmit the letter I previously submitted. I checked the email address and lo and behold it was a different email address they wanted me to send to from the last time. By the way, when you call their customer service, option 6 on the automated answering message is for cancellation requests. When you select option 6 the phone gets instantly disconnected. Every time. I had to use another option to get a live person to talk to. So, I agree with the other reviews. This has turned into a scam company. Stay away from them. They should be prosecuted for fraudulent practices.

This company refuses to provide the service we contracted for. We have been without service since July of 2018. We stopped paying in September and all we get is pay your bill and we will fix the system. My question to them is if it’s not working why should I have to pay ? There response is that your under contract. I have spoke with numerous representatives and told them to cancel and they say ok but the collections call and says you can only cancel in writing. I have written 3 times and they say they never received it. Once they scheduled a service tech but I had to cancel because of a death in the family. They have stated numerous times that I have to work with their schedule and be here when they tell me too. What ever you do, do not get involved with this company. They do not stand by commitments made by their employee for release of contract date. They try to auto re-new your contract without your approval. Once notified that you do not wish to renew the monitoring contract they ignore all written and verbal statements closing the contract per the written and verbal statement from their employee. Once they do not get what they want they report to credit bureaus that you are in default even when they were notified verbally and in writing the we did not renew the contract prior to the written end date made to you by an employee of their company. VERY POOR COMPANY AND DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH.

When we finally talked to someone after numerous emails and phone calls we were told it was signed electronically. How can that be done without our consent. This company is a scam. Their representative came to my house and offered to install the service for a $34.99 fee and a free trial for a trial period until Dec of 2016 and is cancellable within this period, and during this time I didn’t even activate their service. I did cancel before that period was up and their customer service told me that it’s no longer cancellable. I wrote them a letter and still they’re demanding payment! Their poorly represented and misleading the customers. I didn’t pay them because I felt I was wrongly charged and kept telling them to remove their gadgets from my house, They reported wrong informs to the credit bureau telling Experisn I paid them until Sept of 2016 when in reality I’ve never made thise payments because I did express wanting to cancel the service before the trial period was up! Run from this company if you see their representative...

Let me start out with me saying that I have always paid my bills on time or before time. My credit score has always been 800 or above. I wrote a letter stating that I wanted to cancel my service after my first 3 year contract had expired. Then I called them to make sure everything was correct. They said they could offer me a lower monthly plan for 2 years and with the first 6 months of that contract being no cost to me. I accepted this offer. WRONG!!!! They started billing me after 3 months of the offer, not 6 months. I can't tell you how many phone calls and e-mails that I made and sent to clarify the problem. I kept getting late fees on the bills I received. In the meantime, they sent my name in to the credit bureau as having non payments on the account which affected my credit score tremendously. My score went from an 815 to a 726. I called and they said they would remove it from my credit score buy never did! I work very hard on paying my bills so my credit score would reflect that I do pay my bills and on time! As soon as my current 2 year contract is fulfilled, I WILL NOT be using Safe Home Security again!!

Safe Home Security directly lied to me. They assured me when I asked that a contract could be transferred to an new home owner. When my home sold a year later, they insist you cannot transfer a contract. The new owner has the equipment and is paying, while I am still being charged. Do not fall for this scam company.

No one ever contacted me to let me know they bought my contract and previous alarm company was still charging me monthly. The only way I found out there was an issue, was by receiving a threatening late bill in the mail. I had to go back-and-forth between safe home security and my previous company republic alarms and I did almost all of the legwork to get the issue resolved. I still haven’t heard from them and now apparently someone gave them my banking account information when they said that they didn’t have it in the first place another auto deducting me. No one wants to help me, and they just want to transfer me to answering machines. Customer service and communication is Horrendous. I don’t feel like I should be held to a contract that I didn’t even knew I had to begin with, they’re not taking care of me as a customer, and only care about money. I am 100% dissatisfied with this company. And I would encourage other people to probably go with the bigger name companies who are more reputable

This company is a scam. They don’t disclose their fees upfront and will hit you with surprise bills after the fact. They hide their fees in the installation agreement and give you a contact that says it’s their complete contract but doesnt mentioned the fees thet conceal. Avoid at all costs.

I bought my home security with a company alliance on January 2016 January for a 3-year contract and I was happy with them. I had accounts with safe home security for my businesses and for my home too, to get their business they are nice on but once we are in they will do anything to screw their customers without even their knowledge. I cancelled all of my accounts with them in writing, but they keep sending bills to me and put me on delinquency. I got my new company alliance from Rhode Island, just before my contract ends in January 2019, around September 2018 Someone from SHS called me and said your contract with us ending and asked me to renew it, I said I have no a/c with SHS and my account is with the alliance , she said we took over them , I am not notified with that changes, If it is safe home I am not interested to renew it and disconnect it. after some time I called them back and ask for the monthly charges, if I stick with them They said 59.99, I was paying 59.99 for alliance security that included my equipment instalment, They said they will charge me 59.99 for monitoring every month That means they will charge me again for the equipment I paid off already, Also they said my agreement will be done by the only march but my agreement with alliance is up to January, I never signed any agreement with safe home Security, I told them to cancelled this account they demand me to send them a written request , I emailed the written request and fax over on January 16th, they still charged my Bank A/c on February and March, So it's looks like safe home security is not a reputable company which we can trust , company may be good but people work there are real jerks and how we can leave the trust on them for our Security??????????????????????????

My DAD signed up with SHS. He fell and broke his leg and was diagnosed with dementia and has been living in convalescent care since March 2018 and no longer has the home, I've called several times to cancel his service but they are not willing to. The bill is now up to $800.00 and climbing and that is ridiculous. He seventy-eight years old and living Social Security and has no way to pay this bill. I know my Dad signed up with them but their are life issues that no one can control. He is no longer using their service and hasn't been for a long time. This company is practising unethical business practices. They have lousy customer service. they are not willing to work with you. When my Dad was they're is alarm would go off for no reason. Do not use this company just another way to scam people out of their money.

Want to cancel but they just won't let me. Their cashing money orders but then sending out late notices saying that the account hasn't been satisfied. When confronted with the money order tracking information they cashed it but never applied it to account then proceeded to give a credit on account ( for the next month) instead of applying it to the amount due!! And still want their late fee????

Worst customer service ever. Never return a call and once you send your notice to cancel due to their breach of contract to provide service then you get a call from SHS. They only call to tell you that you have to continue to pay until the service agreement is ended even if they don't live up to their part of the agreement. I stopped payments from my bank and made a complaint with better business bureau. I am with another more reliable monitoring company and I refuse to pay one more penny to SHS

My contract with SafeGuard/Safe Home Security was due to end 5/18/2018 and as instructed by Evelyn C, I emailed my intent to terminate services 60 days prior, on 3/19/2018 (attached). I received a letter in the mail from SafeGuard/Safe Home Security dated 3/21/2018 regarding cancellation of my services (attached). Starting June 1, 2018, I have received invoices with a balance due (invoices attached) an on the invoices is the name with whom I spoke with regarding invoice and cancellation and I was told that it would be taken care of. The August invoice I got transferred to 2 different people to try to get the situation resolved. Finally spoke with a John L whom emailed a Justin L to let him know my account was cancelled and to stop sending invoices and that I owe no money (attached with notes on the transferring from one person to another; email attached from John L to Justin L). On September 3, 2018, I received a letter from SafeGuard/Safe Home Security stating I had a balance and needed to contact them for payment or be sent to collections. When I called, I got transferred to Xolimar G, (letter attached) in the collection department and she claims she forwarded a cancellation form for my account and to disregard all further invoice and letter, which I can’t, it’s my credit on the line. On September 14, 2018 I received another invoice in the mail (attached). I put in a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on 9/20/2018. I got notification from my identity security company that on 9/21/2018, they sent me to collections and it’s showing up on my credit report.
