Pros

This company is very customer-oriented. It is simple to get a quote by filling out a request form on the company’s website. Current customers can access their accounts online at any time of day. The company offers free installation and activation when customers purchase a plan, which helps stretch the budget. They also offer a 15% discount on equipment for new customers. The systems offered can also be set to ignore the movement of small animals in the home, so pets don’t set off any alarms and cause unnecessary worry.

Cons

This company does not have the best reputation. While businesses are not required to be accredited by the Better Business Bureau, acquiring this accreditation can be seen as a good-faith gesture on the part of the business. We talked to a sales manager that indicated most of their complaints deal with their auto-renewal agreement. We were assured by the manager that Safe Home Security is working hard to improve their score and resolve complaints.

Our Recommendation

Overall, this company is not one of the best security companies out there. There are other more reputable companies that consumers should look at first. These companies have better customer reviews and fewer complaints by consumers.

Safe Home Security Contract Details

Section 3
Monitoring: Company agrees to provide monitoring services for a period of 36 months from the above date.  This agreement shall automatically renew without action by either party under the same terms and conditions for successive periods equal to one month unless either party gives to the other at least sixty days written notice, prior to expiration date, of intention to terminate this Agreement upon any expiration date.  Upon renewal, service will be billed at then-current monitoring fees.

Why it’s important
Once the initial contract is over, the monitoring services will automatically renew on a month to month basis unless the home own specifically cancels the agreement in writing at least 60 days before the end of the three year period.

Section 9
Service Repairs to the Clients System: Unless otherwise indicated, the client understands that the monitoring fee covers only the monitoring service and client agrees to pay Company for all service or repairs to the alarm system.  Client hereby agrees to periodically test, at least monthly, observe Client’s system, be aware of its operational status in accordance with the operating instructions, and request service if needed.

Why it’s important
Any repairs that are needed on the system are the customer’s responsibility.  The month fee only covers the monitoring and will not cover any maintenance done to fix the system.

Section 18
Interruption or delay of Service: The Company assumes no liability for delays in installation or interruption of service due to strikes, riots, floods, fires, acts of God or any causes beyond the control of the Company.  The Company will not be required to supply service to the Client while interruption of the service due to any such cause shall continue.

Why it’s important
If something happens that interrupts the monitoring of your system the company is not responsible for anything that happens during the period.  For example, long power outages, natural disasters, fire, or any other incident that cuts off service immediately alleviates Safe Home from any responsibilities.

Section 22
Warning and Testing of Equipment: Smoke detectors, panic buttons, medical pendants, and other electronic components operate off A.C. (electric) or battery power.  If batteries become dead or electric power is lost, smoke detectors and other components will not operate and the alarm will not sound or communicate to the central station.  The System and all components should be tested by the Clients at least twice monthly through to the central station to insure the System is functioning.  If the Client discovers malfunctions or desires explanation on system testing, he should contact the company’s service department for immediate service.  The Company assumes no liability for periodic testing of the system.

Why it’s important
If is your job to check your batteries and equipment functionality twice a month.  If something goes awry and the equipment doesn’t work it is your fault for not checking it.

Section 23
Failure to meet payment: In the event of a failure to meet a scheduled payment of any of the charges due and payable on this Agreement, the remainder of this Agreement, including interest of 1.5% per month (18% per year) and the attorney’s fees accrued thereon, will be accelerated and become immediately payable in full.

Why it’s important
If you fail to make the monthly payments then you will be charged the remainder of the months left on the contract plus interest and attorney’s fees.  Although you weren’t able to make the one monthly payment, somehow you are required to pay everything listed above in full right away.

Section 27
Increase in service fees: Company shall have the right, at any time, to increase the service fee to reflect any additional governmental fees such as increased taxes, licenses, permits, or fees which Company may incur or which may be charged to Company by any utility or governmental agency relating to the services Company provides and Client agrees to pay the same.  In addition, Company may increase the services fee for any renewal term by giving Client sixty days prior notice.

Why it’s important
Safe Home can increase their monthly monitoring fees anytime they get hit with an increase in fees from the government.  For example, if they are charged an extra fee or tax they will pass that cost onto you in the form of increasing the monthly fee.  Also, at the time of contract renewal they can increase your rate by informing you of the increase at least 60 days before the renewal.

1- Sales person did not disclose that they would be doing a Hard Inquiry on My Credit, then a month later they did a second Hard Inquiry even after I made the first monthly payment? Was going to re finance Home and hard Inquiries lowered all three major reporting agencies reports several points as a result!
2- Sales person said all interactions are handled locally with no out of state companies to worry about (Not True)
3- Sales and service tech took a cancellation letter to my previous company, and previous company says they never received it thereby making it so I had to make double payments for February, I had even talked to a customer service rep two weeks prior to February due date and was assured they would take care of it, and they failed to do so.
4- Took 3 visits to get service working even initial they had failures of two components including panel itself.

I have been a SHS customer for 2.5 years. I am coming up on the end of my 3 year contract and will not be renewing. As the review states, you must provide 60 days prior written notice of your intent to cancel; otherwise your contract will automatically renew at the going rate.

Contrary to the review, there is no web portal to view account information. There is no transparency with options. Your mobile connectivity is handled through alarm.com, but you don’t have access to all the features alarm.com offers.

SHS is very old school and I don’t see a bright future for them. They need to understand the way things are changing with technology in 2018, and understand that more people want mobile features, transparent billing practices, and a company they can rely on.

had so many problems this past year. they were NEVER on time when we had an appointment. they were either several hours late, or didn’t show up at all. we waited 2 months for our 2 buildings out back to have the alarm repaired. we are so very disappointed in their service,. when they did call ( 2 months late) I told them we were upset with service, and cancelled their service. We went with another company. Now SHS said they will still charge me for the next 6 months, because of my contract. We feel like they should not charge us, as we cancelled last month, I will NEVER use or ever recommend them. I sent them a letter explaining why we cancelled. They are so greedy, they said they will still charge us through June of this year. What terrible service and company!

this company is a big scam. they came to my door and said that they were part of Monotroncis but will be serving the west coast. They came in and changed equipment. I had the service and paid by them deducting from my checking account. I had problems when the system started peeping noise. I called in and the receptions said some one will come out but i will have to pay him 79.00 unless i take the warranty for 5.00 more dollars a mo. The previous Alarm companies I dealty with never said anything about warranties. The repairment came and said he would have to order parts. He never came back and I discovered that he did not stop the peeping.. So i called to find out what happen. the receptionist did not even have a record of it. She said she woudl send someone and made an appoointment. No one never showed up. I called again and they made another appointment in which no one showed up. In the meantime they are taking paymnet out of my account. I was fed up with this company and realize that they were basically a scam. They also said they i was under contract for 5 yrs which i never agreed to. I stopped payment from my bank. Then they started billing me and calling me which i never answered. now i am getting letter threatedning to send my accouint to collection agency.

This company is bad. When you sell your home, they want you to remove the equipment, however if it is part of the home it is prohibited in Vermont. Then they either want you to pay 90% of the contract or $1100.00 for the equipment. When you call and explain they hang up on you. They have sales people that knock on your door since they bought Moditronics/ADT and impose a new contract on you and lie that you can transfer service. Looking at the contract they list no license in Vermont but do other states. They are a CT company that crossed state lines to grow their business in an apparently unethical manner. Stay away from these guys!

SAFE HOME SECURITY, INC. You keep billing us for services and equipment we do not have or use, adding processing fees and late charges, billing us for warranties on equipment we don’t have or use. When I have asked for a copy of the bogus contract you say you have, the person says “right away”, but nothing ever comes. I see on Yelp and BBB many other people have had the same bad experiences. STOP YOUR PREDATORY TACTICS.

When we entered the contract we were assured their system would be just like the one they were replacing. This was a lie. I found out 3 years later that most of the window are not armed, only 3 of them, and the smoke detector is not alarmed as it was previously. We have been partially unsecured for 3 years. Anyone could easily enter through the 12 windows unsecured. Customer service VERY UNPLEASAN: rude and arrogant. Said would not honor oral comments or assurances of their salesman and there was nothing we could do about it. They have a large law firm to handle such disagreement. In addition, their salesman marked through monitoring service for 36 months on the contract and wrote in 60 months. I did NOT INITIAL the change. It was done unilaterally by him and I do not believe it is legally binding.

I have nothing good to say about this company or the people that work in customer service . Also you had better watch your checking account each month . They people who does there service work are super good if the office people did there jobs as well as the service did it would be a good company. I want name names but if any one would like to have them just text me I would love to tell you all the thing that has gone on this year. So if you think you want this company in your home think very long about it before using this company. I have never wrote a bad review on any one but I think this time it needs to be done.

SHS came out and asked if I would like a free installation of their product and sold me on a $39 a month service. This was in the 3rd week of Aug of 2017. The man that installed my service said he did not have window sensors, a smoke detector or signs and would need to come back the following week to install them. He assured me that the motion sensors would be enough if someone broke into my house.

Three weeks later I received a text in the morning stating that he would be there between the hours of 5-7 that evening to install the remaining items. I called the company and explained that I had a commitment that evening and would not be able to be there. I asked them for another date, preferably with advanced notice so I could plan to be there. The customer service rep said he would let the installer know and have him call me. I never received a call.

I called the 800 number again because not only had I not heard from the installer but my system was not working. I knew it was not working because I forgot to disalarm it one evening and in the morning when I woke up and went to disalarm it before I let the dogs out I realized it was still flashing disalarm from the night before. I should have received a call, police should have been there, etc. None of that happened. The customer service rep said “oh, I see the problem, it was disconnected in Aug”. I asked why, he said he would send the installer out to fix it.

10/6 I called the 800 number and asked to cancel my service because it’s not working and I’ve been getting the run around from the installer. She said “I’m sorry, you signed a 5 year contract and so you’ll have to keep paying”. WHAT??? I have to pay for a service they are not providing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sincerely,
    Lisa

I have been a long time customer. Since 2002 I think. My experience with safe home to this point has been almost non existent because I have never had any real issue’s with the equipment installed at my home. I have had some small amount of Dealings with the administrative department trying to up my annual costs but I was never forced to.
The reason I am even writing a review is because a service call was required to change out my old 2g cell phone device to a 4g. The Technician Art B. was very personable and professional. I want to commend him on a job well done and let the people at safe home know that this guy and guys like him are a good reason for me to stay a customer of yours.
    Thanks,
    John Champigny

Christian came and assessed our problem with our alarm system right away. He was able to clear the FC symbol and checked to see that the alarm was up and running. He was very friendly and courteous. Christian was very knowledgeable and through. It’s a good feeling to know that our alarm system is performing well. Thank you.

Have had their system for a number of years. No equipment issues, works as expected. Monitoring is as expected. I have accidentally tripped system a few times over the years and got expected calls and check ups. Have had battery replacement and periodic service calls to check sensors and all costs covered by my maintenance contract. Same technician has been servicing equipment over the years and he is personable,, efficient, prompt and competent. No complaints. South Florida.

Equipment never worked properly. When we called to cancel the services they came out to update the equipment. We said no because we were planning on moving but they assured us that if we sold our house we could cancel the services with no problem. Sold the house and called to cancel our services but they are charging us $2500 for canceling early. Even after explaining that was not what we were told they are still charging us like we were the ones lying. Calling channel 8 news to report this company. Would not reccommend this company to anyone. Customer service was a nightmare!

Safe Home Security is terrible. The employees are very unprofessional and they are very unorganized. To simply put it from the start it was bad. The rep came to my home for the initial visit and we discussed their services however I was unable to finalize the agreement. The rep came back to my house a few days later and spoke to my wife who called me on the telephone because I wasn’t home. So I agreed to go with their services but I told the rep to come back so I could sign the contract. Well the rep never came back and a few months later I get a bill. So I call customer service and they tell me I can use my American Express card to make my payment. I DON’T HAVE A AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD! The rep that came to my home forged my signature and used a pre-paid American Express card to open my account. Safe Home Security is a FRAUD!
