Pros

This company is very customer-oriented. It is simple to get a quote by filling out a request form on the company’s website. Current customers can access their accounts online at any time of day. The company offers free installation and activation when customers purchase a plan, which helps stretch the budget. They also offer a 15% discount on equipment for new customers. The systems offered can also be set to ignore the movement of small animals in the home, so pets don’t set off any alarms and cause unnecessary worry.

Cons

This company does not have the best reputation. While businesses are not required to be accredited by the Better Business Bureau, acquiring this accreditation can be seen as a good-faith gesture on the part of the business. We talked to a sales manager that indicated most of their complaints deal with their auto-renewal agreement. We were assured by the manager that Safe Home Security is working hard to improve their score and resolve complaints.

Our Recommendation

Overall, this company is not one of the best security companies out there. There are other more reputable companies that consumers should look at first. These companies have better customer reviews and fewer complaints by consumers.

Safe Home Security Contract Details

Section 3
Monitoring: Company agrees to provide monitoring services for a period of 36 months from the above date.  This agreement shall automatically renew without action by either party under the same terms and conditions for successive periods equal to one month unless either party gives to the other at least sixty days written notice, prior to expiration date, of intention to terminate this Agreement upon any expiration date.  Upon renewal, service will be billed at then-current monitoring fees.

Why it’s important
Once the initial contract is over, the monitoring services will automatically renew on a month to month basis unless the home own specifically cancels the agreement in writing at least 60 days before the end of the three year period.

Section 9
Service Repairs to the Clients System: Unless otherwise indicated, the client understands that the monitoring fee covers only the monitoring service and client agrees to pay Company for all service or repairs to the alarm system.  Client hereby agrees to periodically test, at least monthly, observe Client’s system, be aware of its operational status in accordance with the operating instructions, and request service if needed.

Why it’s important
Any repairs that are needed on the system are the customer’s responsibility.  The month fee only covers the monitoring and will not cover any maintenance done to fix the system.

Section 18
Interruption or delay of Service: The Company assumes no liability for delays in installation or interruption of service due to strikes, riots, floods, fires, acts of God or any causes beyond the control of the Company.  The Company will not be required to supply service to the Client while interruption of the service due to any such cause shall continue.

Why it’s important
If something happens that interrupts the monitoring of your system the company is not responsible for anything that happens during the period.  For example, long power outages, natural disasters, fire, or any other incident that cuts off service immediately alleviates Safe Home from any responsibilities.

Section 22
Warning and Testing of Equipment: Smoke detectors, panic buttons, medical pendants, and other electronic components operate off A.C. (electric) or battery power.  If batteries become dead or electric power is lost, smoke detectors and other components will not operate and the alarm will not sound or communicate to the central station.  The System and all components should be tested by the Clients at least twice monthly through to the central station to insure the System is functioning.  If the Client discovers malfunctions or desires explanation on system testing, he should contact the company’s service department for immediate service.  The Company assumes no liability for periodic testing of the system.

Why it’s important
If is your job to check your batteries and equipment functionality twice a month.  If something goes awry and the equipment doesn’t work it is your fault for not checking it.

Section 23
Failure to meet payment: In the event of a failure to meet a scheduled payment of any of the charges due and payable on this Agreement, the remainder of this Agreement, including interest of 1.5% per month (18% per year) and the attorney’s fees accrued thereon, will be accelerated and become immediately payable in full.

Why it’s important
If you fail to make the monthly payments then you will be charged the remainder of the months left on the contract plus interest and attorney’s fees.  Although you weren’t able to make the one monthly payment, somehow you are required to pay everything listed above in full right away.

Section 27
Increase in service fees: Company shall have the right, at any time, to increase the service fee to reflect any additional governmental fees such as increased taxes, licenses, permits, or fees which Company may incur or which may be charged to Company by any utility or governmental agency relating to the services Company provides and Client agrees to pay the same.  In addition, Company may increase the services fee for any renewal term by giving Client sixty days prior notice.

Why it’s important
Safe Home can increase their monthly monitoring fees anytime they get hit with an increase in fees from the government.  For example, if they are charged an extra fee or tax they will pass that cost onto you in the form of increasing the monthly fee.  Also, at the time of contract renewal they can increase your rate by informing you of the increase at least 60 days before the renewal.

So far VERY bad after installation. They were willing to haggle and lowered the price a bit to get the contract. Billing is consistant. Ran a wire and stapled right through it. Later, the wire shorted, fried the battery then tried to charge us $50. NO. Had a false alarm go off and no response, Last night waslked into the room and set the alarm off without warning. However, We are calling today after I called at 4:45 this morning. I hope we can work this out. Sold to a man who just lost his wife, 71 years old and I wasn’t there. Since This is my email and not my fathers, this will probably not be posted. If it isn’t, Well, I will get the message out. But this is the last chance. The unanswered alarm may have been a phone line issue. If the situation changes and it was not the SHS’s fault, Then I will update my review. I will say the employees are polite and friendly with the few false alarms we have had. So I will notch them up a few..

This is a rip off company. This company can give a good company in this industry a bad rap. The attorney general of Florida should be asked to look into the business practices of Safe Home security. This company is nothing more than a scum operation.

My contract does not end until 4/2015. It is currently March 2015 and I tried to cancel my service, but I was informed that it has already been rolled over until 4/2016.

Rip-off company. I would not recommend becoming involved with this company. They have very underhanded business practices. Whatever you do, do not allow them to take automatic payments from your account.

They took out 212.00 dollars out of my checking account 1-5-15. They gave me 3 different fax numbers for my bank to show they did. None of them worked. Finally got a person who said the manager would fix today and call me after 6 pm. No phone call yet. They said the charges were for october 2014 for 2 service calls. Never got a bill. Also the key pad was brought in 3 different times until he found one that did not stick like mine. Very upset. If I dont here from them tomorrow I am calling the better buisness buera tomorrow

Never had problems with company until after I had completed the first three years with them (satisfied three year contract) and tried to cancel. You can’t do it unless you send them cancellation IN WRITING 60 days BEFORE your contract is up you will be held hostage by some of the rudest people ever.
If I had been smart enough to have checked out this company like I should have I wouldn’t have been taken advantage of. Sometimes being a senior citizen and taking people at their word like we used to be able to do when someone told you you had a three year contract and then just a month to month agreement that is what you had. Now you better check the fine print on everything and then get a lawyer to see what they are really going to try and do to you. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS !!!!

I have never in my life experienced such a rude, careless, impolite and ignorant customer service as with this wannabe company.
They will deliberately give you misleading information in order to profit on that and then laugh at your face how stupid you are to trust the things they said your over phone.
Talking to them is like a talking to the broken record player – no matter what you say or ask they will be repeating the same text over and over.
If by any chance you want to talk about canceling the service it will be like talking to the wall. Not just any wall, but extremely stupid wall which denies to hear the word ‘cancel’.
I will avoid to talk about various details as they are already given in the reviews of other unsatisfied customers and to which I can agree 100%.

However, opposite to Robert Cusanelli’s review, I can confirm that in our case there were no any
penalty exceptions regarding being their customer for more than 30 months, regardless when your notice of cancellation was sent or whatsoever (they even told us that they pay in advance for the whole year to the service company they use and that there is no way anything can be done about it).

After we send them certified letter of cancellation, instead of sending us some letter of cancellation acknowledgement they send us some stupid letter informing us of NEXT automatic renewal which basically means “We don’t care about your cancellation letter, you are on our automatic renewal list until further”.

Before you go into having anything to do with this “company” – FOR GOD’S SAKE, READ THE REVIEWS!

Does not care for it’s customers or it’s reputation. I was sold this service through a contractor who I assumed worked for the company. They assured me when I moved in a year they would install a system at my new home. When I moved I was not told at anytime I needed to disconnect the old system and take it with me.(even when I called safe home security to inform I was moving) Safe home security said I should have called them with those questions and since I didn’t have it in writing I was told that, that I would have to pay the cancellation fee of 800 dollars then they could waive installation at my new address. I offered to pay half for new equipment since I was misinformed and the representative for them was just stuck up about it saying it’s not an option. To me good business would be trying to help a customer that was sold something and misinformed by someone you trusted to sell your product. They don’t believe so because either way they get their money cancel you pay 90% of your contract or just ride out the monthly rate till your contract expires. This company does not care about it’s customers or image just the dollar we represent.

Local service contractor is not good at service response as my system has not been totally operational for over 6 months. When called, they are very slow at responding, generally not until you elevate a call to a higher level at SHS. I found the service specialist at SHS’s home office to have a short fuse when questioned about their poor service and she just wanted to make it the fault of the local contractor and then notified me that equipment that was installed in my home was never under a warrantee and would cost $595.00 to replace a security camera. Never under a warrantee??? I’m changing companies as soon as my contract expires.

SHS is not a bad company as long as you stay with them…. but as soon as you want to break up with them, they are criminals. Safe Home Security is the WORST company to do business with. I tried to cancel my service approaching the end of my 3 year contract. They told me to write a letter to them to cancel service, and they needed it 60 days prior to my contract ending. I did just that, then they still would not cancel my contract. I ended up paying for a COMPLETE YEAR IN FULL to cancel service and make them go away… and then they STILL charged me for something. They never billed me or anything, just a bill that just showed up on my credit report, negatively affecting my credit report as well…as a charge off.
I cannot believe this company is still in business. RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

This company is extremely non military friendly! I made a mistake of signing a 3 year contract with them (I already owned a security system and only needed monitoring) and completely regret it. I have military orders to move and this company is trying to charge me $328 for a cancellation fee for the remaining 11 months on the contract. They say we can still use them since we will be in the US, but we cannot as we will be renting and possibly moved again in a year! Also, our system was hard wired and couldn’t be removed without causing extensive damage to the house it was in. We should be focused on the move, but now I’m having to worry about dealing with this company and there terrible customer service and policies! I’ve moved 5 times in the military and have NEVER had this experience!

Safe Home Security installed a security system in my home in January 2012. I begin experiencing a problem with sticking keys on the control keypad in June 2012. I found the system would not always set properly and would not alarm when activated. I made numerous calls to SHS. Often times I could not make contact with a real person and other times I was told someone would be getting back to me to solve my problem. Very seldom would a SHS rep call me back. I called them numerous times during a 12-month period reporting the chronic problems I was having with my security equipment and their customer service. Both were very poor. A Safe Home Security Rep once told me that high turn-over within the company was preventing them from addressing customer concerns in a timely manner. After being promised a new control pad and never receiving one, I removed all of SHS defective monitoring equipment from my home in April 2013 and offered to return it to them. SHS refused to acknowledge their unreliable monitoring equipment and their poor customer service. My experience with this company gave me the impression that it was a SCAM. They were only interested in receiving $42.99 monthly payment. They have refused to relieve me of a deceptive 5-yr. contract and has negatively impacted my credit rating by reporting an unpaid balance to the credit agencies.
Please stay away from Safe Home Security. They offer unreliable security monitoring equipment and poor customer service.

I’ve been a customer of Safe Home Security since February, 2011 and I can confirm that this review is close to spot-on. I’ve had a note on my desk this whole time to remind me to call them in February, 2014 to keep them from auto-renewing me.

However, that situation has been overcome by events because we’re selling our house and moving out of state this month (five months before the end of our contract term).

So I phoned Safe Home Security this morning to tell them I needed to cancel early. Of course, I was expecting to engage in a heated discussion about cancellation penalties, which I estimated to be in the realm of $220. But I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there will be no penalties imposed because (a) I’ve been with them at least 30 months and (b) I sent them a letter at the beginning of my contract period objecting to the auto-renewal of my contract in 2014. Apparently, all I have to do to get out of the balance of my contract without having to pay any penalty is email them a copy of my HUD settlement form when I close on the sale of my house (to verify that I’ve sold it).

I guess SHS is getting its act together.

Still, at $48.71 per month for monitoring (landline with cellular backup), and a typical 90 second response time to activations, I would have looked at other companies before renewing with SHS if I was still going to be here at the end of my contract period.

One last note: We’ve had a few problems with their hardware over the years, mostly relating to the cellular backup and the control panel. But, by and large, the system has worked well, it has some great features, and we’ve never had any problems with any of the sensors.
