  • Nationwide availability: Vivint is available in all 50 states so customers all around the nation have access to its products and services.
  • Multiple equipment options and automation features: With Vivint’s base security package, customers receive a touchscreen control panel, a smoke detector, a door/window sensor, a motion detector, and a key fob. The key fob can be used to arm or disarm the system without having to enter the home. Additional equipment is also available, including recessed door sensors, glass break detectors, flood/freeze sensors, carbon monoxide detectors, tilt sensors, small appliance controls, doorbell cameras, smart thermostats, panic pendants, and more.
  • Lifetime warranty: Vivint offers a lifetime equipment warranty on all of its home security and home automation devices, which covers both defective parts and normal wear and tear. This warranty applies for as long as you are a paying Vivint customer.
  • Remote access via mobile app: Access the entire control panel with the Vivint Sky mobile app. It allows customers to arm and disarm their security system, view and record live video feeds from the doorbell camera, lock and unlock doors, control the temperature of their home, and more. Customers also receive instant alerts if door or garage door sensors are triggered.  The application even integrates voice control capabilities using Amazon Echo.
  • 60 month contract: Customers are required to agree to a 5 year contract, which is longer than the industry average. If a customer would like to end their contract with Vivint before the term is over, they are required to pay off the remaining contract balance in full.
  • Expensive rates: Monthly monitoring rates start at $39.99/month and go up from there. There are several competing home security companies that do not charge any upfront fees and have lower monthly rates.
  • Customer service complaints: Former and current Vivint customers have complained of deceptive sales tactics, poor customer service, poor billing practices and slow technician response.
  • Our recommendation: With a 60 month contract and high monthly monitoring fees, we recommend a more affordable and flexible option such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America,

This system has NOT worked properly since we first purchased it. We have had to call customer service numerous times for them to try to fix the system and they have never fixed it. When it was first Installed they did NOT install all the components we paid for. Had to call back and reschedule for them to install ALL the equipment that we ordered. Customer service is completely useless they try to make the consumer repair the item over the phone without threatening to charge a service fee. The app NEVER works properly. I had a smoke detector go off a few days ago and because there was a glitch on the panel (which there is ALWAYS something wrong with it) the panel was not charging and disconnected the emergency responders call. He then had to call my husband at work WHO WAS NOT HOME to confirm the house was NOT burning down and he is NOT suppose to get calls at work yet miraculously he did answer during work. The thermostat NEVER works properly. Had a $200 electric bill thanks to Vivint not explaining the settings on the panel I called customer service and all they tried to do was pressure me into signing a 48 month contract to get an upgrade panel they wouldn't even offer a free service to our system to confirm over the next 30 day cancellation period that they require to ensure our system was working properly during that required 30 day cancelation period.Read More

It seems Vivint has a great sales pitch and that is where their greatness ends. Not quite a year into having the system and my cameras rarely, if ever work. I have spent HOURS on the phone with customer service to fix the issues. Each time I have the system fixed, another camera goes down, or my personal favorite, none of them record or allow playback. DO NOT purchase this system, it is not reliable.Read More

This is absolutely got to be the worst home security company. Theor salesman do not follow through with anything they promise. Their equipment does not work properly most of the time. When the try and cancel the service, you have to jump through hoops to get the awful service cancelled. You have to be transferred 10 times before they get you to the right people and then you are still on the phone for 45 minutes. Do not buy from this company!!! I can’t begin to stress this enough!

Watch your money, because they will go take money out of your account when you don’t own them. Vivint Smart Home Security Service. Some of Vivint worker will tell you a lie are blame you, blame the Tech. they will give you all kind of reason why they told money out of your account when they shouldn’t had. It happen to me one time to many. I had not been with the company for a month yet and here I had to call them about 4 times, because of mistakes Vivint have made. 1. Took more money then they should at the begin, and then when in a different account and took more money. All they can say to you that we will refund and that it was done because Vivint worker do things systematically. It that came from accounting Manager Mariah. I told her that they should read note and that you can’t do everything systematically, because every case is different. Watch you account and money. So far the I like the system. I don’t care for the part that I have to keep calling, because they are taking money that they shouldn’t have

Sales rep lied to my face about free equipment, never told me about only 3 days for cancellation, there is a paper cancellation notice they supposedly give you – which I didn’t see at all. They promised energy savings with their new thermostat which was incompatible and my own was installed back. Installation was less then a month ago, but when I called today to cancell I’m told that I would have to buy equipmemnt to cancel.

I agree with a lot of the reviews. My doorbell camera goes offline every week or so. The process to fix it is a pain. I was literally told today to watch the next time a technician comes out so that I can fix it myself next time. What? How about you make a product that just works properly?! I don’t understand why a security company would think this type of unreliable equipment is acceptable. This is my first ever review of anything, ever… I’m pretty easygoing and understanding, but this system is a joke. Now I plan to shout about this experience to anyone who will listen. This company will probably not last long.

I spent 4 days, made over 9 calls trying to cancel my service with Vivint. I finally spoke with a properly trained customer service rep. She guided me through the process. When I tried to contact the bank that finances their equipment for the pay off, my nightmare started over! 45 minutes on hold with no answer. Called another number for Citizens One bank. They had no record of my account. Called Vivint back. This representative managed to help me pay off my account. This was over a week ago. I’m still getting calls from Vivint about problems with my system. Apparently Vivint still has my account open. I can’t reach anyone over the weekend. Boy, they’re going to hear from me as soon as their office opens!!! Worst company I’ve ever tried to do business with! Never been more stressed or frustrated trying to do business according to the instructions given by a company. Vivint should be ashamed of their customer service!

If you have time to call vivant every other month to have your equipment reset, then this may work for you. My doorbell camera constantly falls offline and has currently been stuck in a firmware update for the last month. This will be the second time I’ve called for this issue and my fifth equipment issue since getting the system less than a year ago. Ferris Bueller had a better doorbell monitoring system.

The rep came on a Sunday night at 5:00 and talked his way into the house. When showed the No Soliciting sign, he didn’t feel it applied to him. The sales rep was overly friendly and ended up convincing us to take on the product even though we told him we didn’t care for security systems, and had never used the last one. We signed with the idea we had the 10 days after to cancel, however things got busy and it wasn’t cancelled. Three years later and we still aren’t using it and so I called them recently. I was told I could get my monthly $65 fee reduced within 2 years of the expiry of the contract. Called them today and was told ONLY if I renewed for another 5 years would I see a reduction of a few dollars. Told him that wouldn’t be happening so I am stuck for another 2 years. He said to me “how would we make any money if they did that for people”. There are so many better systems out there for less money and without signing for 5 years. So I would advise to stay clear of this company.

This is the worst company ever. I have had nothing but issues since we signed up. Will not give us a break on a cancellation fee even though it takes them 6 months to come service my area. Other people I know have service issues as well. Can’t wait for our contract to be up so I don’t have to pay for a service that isn’t even installed in our new home we got 2 yrs ago.

I have high speed internet on my system and the cameras still are too slow and never mind about the 720 picture… not very clear at all. The cameras are not HD for sure! Once a month I have to reboot the cameras because they loose the WiFi connection! For the price of $79.00 a month they are not worth the money in my opinion! Once you are locked into their service agreement they got you for 5 yrs. I tried to close my account twice and they tell me I have to wait until contract is over…waited just like they said and canceled at the end of contract and the they told me I was supposed to call them a month in advance! Well, I did that a month in advance and no one told me o call 1 month before ending my service! After canceling my service they said they had to charge me for 1 month service even after canceling the service! This company is a JOKE! I would not recommend it to anyone!!! I get a different story with each person I talk too! Also, good Luck with the service calls too!!
    Bad business!!

My mother moved to assisted living in December 2017. We cancelled the landline in the home. My brother called in December to cancel the service. It was never cancelled. We see monthly charges since the request- now 8 months. The unit was unplugged and therefore not monitored. The customer service rep says we needed to send an email to request the cancellation. This was never explained on the phone call in December call. I asked to be reimbursed for the months that was not monitored and they will only give refund for last month. Seems they are more than happy to take the monthly fee, but does not follow up with unit that is not working in the home.

Vivint is total garbage. System didn’t work correctly from day 1, service is lousy and then the kicker is they won’t let you out of their 3 year agreement even though they didn’t hold up their end of the agreement. Now we are done with our 3 year agreement and they told us we need to wait 30 more days so they can get that last month of payment from us. They charge 2 to 3 times what their competition charges. I guess they are trying to milk their customers so they can stay afloat for a few more years. They were also a nightmare to work with when we moved. Had to uninstall the equipment ourselves, including patching up the wholes in the walls. Otherwise they would charge us $500. Caused tons of work and stress on top of our busy move. Avoid this company.

Absolutely horrible company to deal with. I purchased my equipment.. $1300!!… three weeks ago, and the equipment has never worked right. I had a false alarm at 2:30am .. had to call out the police to make sure someone wasn’t lurking in my basement. Vivint confirmed the next day that the motion detectors in my house weren’t working. Haven’t used the system since, yet I’m paying for it. When I leave my home, I use the app to lock my house, and when I return to the app after work, I come to find the house is unlocked. I’ve demanded to have my money returned, and the robots that work in customer service ignore me, and repeat over and over that their process is to send someone out to fix it. Why would I maintain this service when I’ve had nothing but problems? Folks. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use Vivint. I had ADT for years without issue, and regret not calling them when I moved. Don’t make the same mistake I made.

Our front and rear cameras are not working at all. They don’t record any clips and no one can even ring our doorbell. I called Vivint, so that they could send someone to repair the cameras, and they told me that they would charge us $80 for a technician to fix it. Why should we have to pay, when their equipment isn’t working? We are paying for a security system that doesn’t work. Don’t ever use this security company! You will end up with useless equipment that you can’t do anything with. I will be complaining to the Better Business Bureau tomorrow, to see if they can advocate for us.

I upgraded my security system with VIVINT. I am pleased with the product, BUT after the techmician left, I noticed that I was MISSING MONEY and VALUABLES. The technician installed outside cameras through a room that was not used often. Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL and STAY with your installer at ALL times. The company took a report, but did not seem surprised or concerned.

First our representative falsely sold the products and contract telling us that we could try it out and if we weren’t satisfied we could cancel the services that we didn’t need or cancel altogether. he goes on to tell us what the contract says and has my husban sign. later on I call to cancel one of the services that we don’t use and they say that that’s not possible because we signed a five-year contract stating that we pay for all the equipment in this contract before we can cancel. in the meantime I haven’t heard from the representative I’ve tried to contact him no response I’ve called customer service twice very reluctant to try to help me cancel because I have a contract signed.

Terrible service. I have a signed document from their rep that says I can cancel and get a full refund within the first 30 days if I’m not happy. I told them within the first week I want out. They set up meetings with me without telling me. Their communications are terrible. I send them multiple emails and a signed letter. I told them I want my money back and they can pick up their equipment. Company is not responding. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Took forever to cancel my account. The tech. was late for the 2 hour window to pull my system. He then left to pick up pieces 10 minutes away and never returned. Before he left he didn’t reinstall my deadbolt or doorbell so he left a hole in my door and wires from my doorbell out in the open. The technician’s boss said they wouldn’t reinstall the deadbolt unless I buy a new one. They were able to install a new doorbell because I think the tech. did so without talking to his boss.

Overall terrible customer service to cancel, remove their system, and return your original hardware into place. I highly recommend not getting involved with Vivint even through promotional events as they aren’t really promotional.

Moved my service from one house to another and they charged me a $138 “move fee” which is ridiculous! If I don’t transfer my service, I’m in breach of contract, but I get charged $138 to move the service I’m required to have!! On top of this, I was never told about this fee, the Installer never mentioned it, the 2 customer service reps who helped me transfer never mentioned it, and 2MONTHS after I’m moved in I get a call that I have to pay this!!! 😨 Seems fraudulent to me!

Just try calling Vivint for customer service! For a very expensive service, you wouldn’t expect to be immediately put on hold for 10 to 15 minutes. Then “customer service” connects you to another department that cannot help you either. Part of my reason for calling was that I sold my home. The new owner wants my Vivint system left in tact. Vivint tells me I must contact the bank that finances the purchase of the system. They gave me the account number. I called Citizens Bank. They have no record of me or my account, however, they happily receive my payment each month! After all this, I got on Vivint’s web site. Absolutely no help whatsoever! I guess I have to call Vivint again and waste my precious time waiting on hold. I am grossly disappointed in Vivint! Its very expensive and customer service is only available after a long hold time and then limited as to what they can do for you!

Started using Vivint because I’m a woman living alone in a big city. Stopped using them because it was a pain. For about 2 years I haven’t used their security system but still getting charged $60 a month. That’s a wasted $1,440. I called them a month ago wanting to see if I could cancel the service. The woman looked into my account and told me I was on a month to month service contract and cancelled my account for me. Then she sent me a letter of cancellation. I got charged again the next month and so I called again. Talking to a different woman she said that my contract still wasn’t up and that my account was never cancelled. I even forwarded her the letter of cancellation that was emailed to me. If you send a letter of cancellation you need to honor it. I wouldn’t be so mad if the first woman that talked to me had told me I was still under contract and sent me proof. Don’t use Vivint. I don’t know any company that wouldn’t take responsibility for their mistake.

I should have followed my suspicions when Vivint came knocking on my door because I NEVER adhere to door to door peddlers. The sales agent initially represented himself in a way that led me to believe that he was from my existing security system by telling me when I last had my equipment serviced. I later figured out that he only knew this because they had visited before (without mentioning their company name) with an upgrade offer that I refused and I stated that I had recently upgraded. I told him to come back the next day. After all of the pressuring sales pitch, I attempted to get the sales agent to agree to a shorter contract….NO DEAL. I finally conceded and began going through their lengthy contract process. When the phone call (recorded) was placed with their company that would record me agreeing to everything, I halted when the phone representative asked if I had received the 3 day cancellation form. I HAD NOT and stated so. Only then did the sales agent give it to me with an expired date written on it (July, 2013). When I pointed this out to him, he wrote over the 3 to make it an 8. I did not accept this and asked for a new one. I then proceeded with the recorded phone call and finally reluctantly signed, still feeling a bit uneasy. Installation of the equipment was quite lengthy and I didn’t even get cameras. The very next morning, I discovered that the equipment was not working and that the installer had damaged the door to my 1 year old refrigerator during the process! I immediately called for service, but never got connected to the “right” department after numerous transfers. Additionally, they had already charged my account for the first monthly fee. I then emailed them and gave them notice that I am cancelling my contract, sent the 3 day cancellation notice by certified mail, and cancelled the credit card connected to the Vivint account so as to prevent further charges from them. I immediately went back to my original security monitoring company with no problems and no additional fees. About 5 days later, I once again contacted them to let them know that I had cancelled in spite of their failure to answer my emails or properly service my calls. Now they wanted to talk and ask me why I was canceling. That just let me know that they weren’t listening to my complaint when I first contacted them. I did not repeat myself, and just stated to them to come and get their equipment and that I had it boxed up for them. They attempted to intimidate me by warning me that the equipment had better be intact with no damage…My response to them? “You wanna talk damage? Then let’s talk about my refrigerator door! You’re lucky I am not demanding damage from YOU! I was not worried in the least about them mailing me a bill for ANY other fees and they knew it!

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
We were deceived when we signed up with the agent saying it would only be a 12 month “trial” contract. We tried to cancel then and found out we were in a 40 month contract that could not be broken. Okay, fine. We have an alarm system.
Fast forward to 9 months shy of fulfilling our contract. My husband has become 100% disabled. We are forced to sell our home and move out of state to live with a relative because we have no money, no income (mandatory 6 month waiting period for SS). Give Vivint a call, even spoke to a supervisor, the ONLY way for a medical exemption to cancel service is if you have dementia, alzheimer’s or are a disabled vet.
After I post this, I’m posting to every social media site I can think of, including the BBB!

I had Vivint installed on 27 July 2018 and was given 12 days to cancel service. I notice that the garage camera was only taking 20 second clips. I called the sales rep (Tyson) on or around my 9th day of service and he told me that he could not get to me until that Thursday which would have been after my 12 days. So, he told me that he would give me an extension. When he arrived at my house, he showed my how to work the panel. Things that I didn’t not even ask him about. He was only setting me up to forget about what the visit was about and that was to cancel their service. While there he said that he would give me another week extension but would not put it in writing. So when my garbage can was run over and the camera did not catch any of it, I called within that week time frame, I was told that it was too late to cancel but would add more money to my account to have around the clock recording. My bill is $74 now, why do I need to add something else. It was convenient during my call to them that they could not reach Tyson. Jamie said that she would call me back but I never received a call back. I called them back today and was told that they could get me to the cameral team and they could get me 40 second clips. Really, 40 seconds. This is ridiculous. Then he said he reached Tyson and I was told he said he did not say that. They told me the only way that I could get out of the contract is if I allow someone else to assume the contract. Tyson told me that it was not a contract and that I could pay off the equipment and not worry about the monitoring fee. This company is one of the worst predators out there. I will never recommend this company to anyone. Liars.

We were excited to start the install, which happened quickly. The tech only had 1 option for the door lock, did not have the correct NEST system. Another appointment was scheduled for the next week, in which he called to say that he was being sent to a different town and someone would contact me to reschedule. That never happened, so I called the next Monday. The appointment was schedule for the next Saturday. So, this has been 3 weeks since the initial install. I recieved a return call later that week on Friday stating that they cannot come on the Saturday as planned. We rescheduled for Wednesday between 4-8 because I did not feel we should wait longer than 3 weeks for a corrective action. Wednesday, my husband called aroudn 4:30 to get an ETA; he was told the tech was dispatched. We called again around 7:30-7:45 since we had not heard from anyone. We were told the tech was sent home- our appointment was forgotten. At that point, attempts were made to reschedule for the Saturday that it was rescheduled from…On Saturday, the tech called stating that he had transportation issues and would let me know when he was on the way. He kept us informed. Later, we were called from Customer Service stating that he was not able to make it. I informed them that they knew he was having transportation problems and should have had a back up plan within that 4 hour time frame, especially since it had been now 4 weeks and this was roughly the 6th appointment to get this equipment installed. We contacted the sales personnel, who offered to send it to us for us to install ourselves. My husband emailed the CEO, who has not responded. The contact personnel are very friendly but the install team has dropped the ball so many times now, I wonder about trusting them with our safety and security. Our grievance has been escalated multiple times but they still have not ensured this problem has been taken care of for us.

This is the worst company I have ever come across! Not only do they have a product that malfunctions and makes you worry that something is happening when you’re not home, but their customer service is even worse. I don’t even know how many countless times I have called for help and been transferred multiple times, But then I move to a place where their service doesn’t even work and I have to pay a $400 fee to cancel something I cannot use. They tried to tell me to have someone else take over service and as soon as they asked me how the service was, I could not in good conscious lie to them. Save yourself the hassle and choose a different company.

Airbnb codes don’t work AT ALL, I get erroneous alerts at all hours, techs never show when scheduled and admit that Vivint is riddled with glitches, and to top it off I spent 1 hour and 45 minutes and 5 call transfers and was told at the end of the call I had to email the company in order to cancel. I’m now stuck with $1400 of equipment and a chapped a$$.

High pressure sales right off the bat. Be careful because they will sign you up for as much as they possibly can.
Our cameras and sensors disconnect constantly and your only option to fix it is on your own over the phone. To get a tech out is an additional 50 dollar fee (every time. which will be often).
Our panel has stopped letting me into any of the settings and they want me to take the panel off the wall and take it all apart myself to reset it. If you arent comfortable troubleshooting or taking apart electronics DEFINITELY avoid this company.
You own the equipment after you sign that contract and they are sure to remind you of that when it breaks. “Its your equipment were fixing here” implying they are doing you a favour even being on the phone with you.

I dont know if other companies are any better but i sure hope so.
I would not recommend Vivint to anyone. Ever.

installed a vivint system for over $2000 and the system is only 11/2 years old. multiple issues with quality of the product. door bell stops working in less than a year and motions sensor stops working in about a year. vivint refursed to send a technician after 4-5 hours on the phone with technician to resolve the issue without charging me a service fee. meanwhile, the alarm that cost $2000 plus monthly fees has not worked in over 2 months because they are unable to resolve the issue over the phone after 5 hours on the phone with them. simply RIDICULOUS!!!! i would not recommend this alarm system for ANYONE!!!!!

absolutely brutal….IF, the equipment worked, it would still not be great. We had this installed around 4 years ago and it was just around 50% of the time that the camera would work ~ we put it in our daughters room (she was 1 at the time of installation) so that we could monitor her during the night. Nothing more frustrating that trying to check on her at 1 in the morning only to see the “camera offline” notice…and then there was the control panel…worked most of the time, but when it did not, would be painful to deal with the customer service department. Look, i get that these folks aren’t super happy, but come on, it doesn’t take much to be polite, at the very least.
Anyway, there have to be at least 10 other outfits that I don’t even know that I would recommend before this group

The salesman said my old system was compatible. It wasn’t. It ended up costing ne hundreds of dollars for radio controlled sensors. Expensive services when you run into system problems. I didn’t like dealing with customer service. I found them frustrating. Finally my 5 year contract was up and I was so happy to rid myself of this company. They took another month of service from my checking account after I went through the cancellation. I called and they put the money back into my account. Don’t use this company.

Vivint will tell you things that are not true in order to sell you their product. We were told that we could cancel our monitoring contract and still use our equipment remotely using our cell phone. This is only true if you pay $19.99 per month. We are also unable to get trouble shooting help over the phone without a monitoring contract. This is a problem, since we have had several issues that needed to be addressed in the 9 months that we had the system. We wasted $1600.

We bought the system through Best Buy who said they are no longer affiliated with Vivint because of all the negative reviews from customers.

We tried cancelling our service 2yrs ago when we moved into our new house. At the time, they told us that we would have to buy out our contract which had another 2yrs to go on it and that would have been $2000+. We didn’t have that since we just moved so we either had to pay them and not have it set up or pay them and have it. So, we reluctantly set it up. Here we are, 2yrs later calling to cancel and they said because we agreed to have it set up we agreed to stay with them until 2020. If I called to cancel why would I agree to extend it????? Save yourself time and anguish…DO NOT USE VIVINT HOME SECURITY! Please listen to these reviews. We didn’t and are regretting that decision. We are now waiting “72hrs” to hear the tape showing we agreed to this bs. That’s 72hrs for them to edit.

Waiting for a partial refund of $25.00 since 4/17/2018. It is now 8/15/2018, do the math ??

The refund was promised in 12-15 days !! Never came !!

After 5 calls to customer service, still no refund, promise after promise, 2 days 3 days

more lies. I will try one more time, but six calls and four months is a bit excessive for $25.00

Slow to get results for installing system, but extremely slow to nada, zip, zilch, etc. for customer support. Thermostat will NOT retain the target temperature setting. Awaken several times at night because of target setting continuing to rise during the night, in hot weather. Target setting for cooling and 72 degree. in a few hours, target setting will clime to as much as 78 degree before waking due to the lack of cooling. The AC is not the problem. The problem is the target temperature keeps creeping up, therefor, the AC will not come on.
Secondly, get calls for me to change batteries. It (door sensors) have an odd battery size and are not sold in my community. Why does VIVINT NOT service their equipment.
If VIVINT does not support their equipment, and I am unable to contact VIVINT’s customer support, why do I need VIVINT, and why would I recommend VIVINT to friends an neighbors?
