Ackerman provides a free consultation to help give customers an idea of the system requirements before they have to buy.

Home Automation

Ackerman also provides a number of impressive home automation options you can add to your security system including door sensors, wireless monitoring, various detectors, and other security equipment. Customers can arm/disarm their systems, control locks, thermostats, and lights, receive text and email notifications, and even view live video surveillance camera footage all through Ackerman’s mobile app.

Monitoring Service

In addition to building custom home security and automation systems, Ackerman Security systems provides professional monitoring service for burglars, fire situations, and medical emergencies.     I cannot begin to tell you how cheated I feel by this company. In 2015, we moved into an apartment that already had a security system. I wanted to have it monitored, so the 1st company I thought of was Ackerman. They came out, did a couple of adjustments to our system to make it able to report back to them and set it up. I was 19 at the time and oblivious to the fact these kind of companies will try to take advantage of you. They signed us up for a 3 YEAR long contract knowing we were renters (we were in an apartment building, so it was obvious).. Keep this in mind for later on in my review. We decided to move out of our apartment in 2016 to rent a house. We were only 1 year into our contract, so we had to keep the monitoring. However, the new house did not have a security system. So, Ackerman came out and renewed our 3 year long contract so that we could get a security system installed by adding it to our monthly payments. Keep in mind, we were still renters. In 2017, we decided to move again to another rental house. This time since we owned the actual system, we had them move the one they installed for us in 2016 to this new rental house. This is when the issues began. Whoever came to get this system up and running at our new place slipped up and admitted that he had no idea why we were put into a 3 year long contract EVER because they don’t do that for renters. Apparently renters are only ever supposed to get 1 year long contracts. However, because we moved and had to pay to have them move it, we had to renew our contract yet again…. But, since he let us know it was only supposed to be a year, he renewed it for only 1 year rather than 3. My mind was blown. I was furious. However, there was nothing that could be done about it so I took the 1 year renewal and knew I was going to cancel it as soon as it was up. Well, it was up at the beginning of this year (2019). I promptly sent a letter to cancel our services with them and thought I was done with that…. Well, I wasn’t. What Ackerman FAILS to tell you is that their systems will not work if they are not monitored by them. As soon as the system picks up that it cannot reach Ackerman’s cell tower (or whatever it is called), it starts to blare the siren over and over again until you get it to connect again, making you have to unplug it. This basically renders the system as useless trash, because it begins blaring the alarm from the moment it is powered on to let you know that you are not connected. So, 3/4 of 2019 we had a powered down system hanging on our wall. Completely useless. When it originally happened, I called them to ask them to come out and make it so that it wouldn’t do that and so we could just have the system on and not monitored and they told me it wasn’t possible. So, I spent 3 years making payments on a system that we couldn’t even use after the 3 years was up. When we moved out because we bought a house in October, I threw it into the trash where it belongs. I got SimpliSafe at our new home and I could not be happier. I got a keypad, 15 different types of sensors and a camera for the same price that I got a keypad and THREE sensors at Ackerman. You can also use the system without ever connecting it to being monitored by SimpliSafe. So, SHAME ON YOU Ackerman. Absolute shame on you.

    I have been with Ackerman Security for over 15 years. They are the best! They are very responsive and their customer service is superior in the business. Anytime we set the alarm off accidentally, they call in seconds. Their technicians have been with them for years and they know their customers well. One in particular, Sean R, has offered his cell number to call him if or when we have a problem. That’s old fashion service that is rare to find these days. They are a great company and plan to stay with them for a long time.

    Watch out for these scammers. Signed up for autopay monthly only to find out when I cancelled that they would charge for a full year after cancellation due to the fine print in the auto pay agreement. NOT what I was told when we signed up.

    The most miserable company you will ever experience. They customer loyalty department is a joke – they a predatory in their practices if you attempt to cancel – regardless of no contract. TIt is impossible to get anything resolved as they just want to keep repeating the same nonsense and asking for the same form – over and over – they count on wearing you down. Go with ADT – true professionals.

    I think this company is a scam. They do not answer their phones. I have canceled by service three times without success and they are still billing me. My next stop to to blast Facebook and the rest of social media to stay away from this company. They need to prove to me that they are legit.

    If they can only communicate properly and clearly, they could have saved a loyal customer. Their customer service is under trained and inadequate. After speaking with their supervisor, she is not much better at getting any follow up calls. Imagine a security company with horrible communication…. Do you feel safe that your worldly possession is being looked after by a company that can’t call you back and misinform you with what they promised? I’m moving on to a more reputable company who is more responsive and caring.

    We are very sorry for this rating, but services over the three years contract have had too many calls with little or no satisfactory results. The company needs to improve on technical training and interpersonal skills.

    We canceled our service back in August, followed their cancellation policy, spent almost a hour on the phone explaining we had switched to a different vendor. Finally got the cancellation form, and my wife drove to their office to hand deliver the letter. After waiting for someone for almost 30 min; she finally met a rep who stamped the letter and took the check for the cancellation fee. Yes, I had to pay a cancellation fee after being a customer for 15 years.
    Now, we are in October – and received another invoice!

    I had this security coverage for over 10 years and when I moved to a different address, problems ensued. First, they charged me for moving the system, which was not supposed to happen, and then the technician which came out to install my new system caused problems for me and created great anxiety and fear from his accusations of how I tore the wiring on the new panel. Then, when I tried to cancel service, I was told over the phone it was cancelled on 03/18/19 but still keep getting recurring charges on my credit card. Highly unethical and frustrating and am trying to get from under this continuous charge, which I have yet been unable to do.

    Ackerman Security billing/cancellation policy is far beyond devious, and there seems to be no way out unless you pay them thousands of dollars if you’ve been with them for only a month.

    I’ve had them for 7yrs at my old home, they installed a system in my new home but continued to charge me for the old system after repeated calls to stop. The tech that installed the new system in my home caused damage to my wall that I had to get fixed & I feel their service to the customer has dramatically declined.

    I was through with Ackerman Security and called to cancel, they told me they would email me a cancellation form & when I received the form it had a “contractual balance amount” – get this – for $2,885.80. You read that right!

    This company has very predatory cancellation tactics and should be investigated by The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), for its deceptive billing/cancellation practices. It is clear this company has a history and pattern of taking advantage of past and present customers.

    Predatory cancellation policy. I moved out of my house over 2 years ago, and notified Ackerman via phone at that time. To spite repeated requests to cancel the notifications and the account over the phone, they kept sending me phone calls and texts about “alarm outages”. And I just found out that they’ve been charging me for monitoring this whole time! I asked if they could provide at least partial credit since this is obviously an error, but they said they could not. BE ADVISED: Apparently, in order to cancel the account, you have to ask to be transferred to their “Customer Loyalty Department” and request that they email you a form. The form has to be filled out and physically mailed in in order for the account to be cancelled.

    I had an appointment set for the system to be installed and no one ever called or showed up. When I finally received a call another appointment was set, when the tech arrived he didn’t have the right equipment to do the installation. The tech said he would be back in 2 days and never showed call Ackerman office and was not able to get anyone on the phone. When I called the salesperson I was told that the system that was in the house was not compatible even though the same salesperson came to my house and checked the system to see if it could be used. Then I was told the price that I was quoted is no longer valid and the cost would be higher due to the main key pad not being compatible. They’re quick to want you to pay for the system and then do the old bait and switch. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

    Use some other company. Ackerman Security SUCKS! The people, who handle follow-up calls, after an alarm goes off, are complete idiots. I am tired of police showing up at our doorstep, after I have told Ackerman that everything is okay and not to send the police, even after spelling out the security code. These phone monitors are IDIOTS! I hate to say that about a person, but it is true. I’m switching and will contact ADT.

    Buyers beware! When you try to disconnect your service the boneheads at Ackerman will only accept a signed disconnect form, that must be sent via US Mail. Email confirmation is not accepted, nor do they allow a customer to fax in their cancellation. I tried to disconnect two months ago, gave 3 weeks advance notice of the date to disconnect my service, even chatted with a sweet little thing named Kristen F, who assured me my account would be shut down on the date I requested. Today I was billed AGAIN by Ackerman, and told they never received my letter/signed disconnect form from the US Postal service (big surprise!)

    I went to their office today, showed the receptionist my original signed form, which she took and then FAXED to her accounts department (don’t accept faxes Ackerman…..what a crock of s–t!!!!) I think the Attorney General of Georgia will be hearing from me about what appears to be a process that Ackerman uses to bilk customers out of additional payments. Shame on you Ackerman!

    I thought this was good service until I tried to cancel.I signed on with ackerman in june 2015. no equipment. I had my own equipment from a competitor and signed with ackerman for monthly monitoring only. after 4 years, my existing system was getting outdated so I called ackerman to get a quote on getting an upgraded system and monitoring. I told them to give me their best price because I am shopping for prices from 3 competitors. Ackerman was the most expensive and I went with a different company.
    when I call to cancel my monitoring, they tell me they can beat that price because I have been a customer since 2015. I tell them, they should have offered me that price before I decided to go with a different company. it’s too late now.
    now they say, fine, we will cancel but you owe 330 dollars.
    for what? I have been on monthly monitoring only since June 2015.
    they say, well we automatically renew you for 1 year if you don’t write us and tell us not to. you are renewed through 2020 so to leave, you have to pay us for those months of monitoring?
    there was nothing that I was ever made aware of in 4 years that requires that. I never had your equipment, still don’t and if you think that kind of scam makes me want to use you for a new system, you are nuts. then they say I can’t cancel until I sign an agreement they are sending to pay this 330? They say cancellation can’t be verbal. I don’t trust this company. I f you are thinking of using them….RUN!!!! they are not fair.
