AlarmForce was a Canadian-based home security company acquired by Bell Canada in 2017. Since then, it appears that they exist under different names throughout Canada and the United States. To find a home security system still in operation, see our top companies.

They provide home automation, home security, and alarms for individuals and businesses. The company’s equipment. Equipment from the company is provided by Alarm.com

Pros

LifeTime Warranty on Equipment

*This information applied to AlarmForce before they were acquired in 2017

AlarmForce also offers a free lifetime equipment warranty in the event that one of your home security devices malfunctions unexpectedly. In addition to the latest home security devices, AlarmForce also provides home automation options and backup cellular monitoring, so that no matter where you go you’ll be able to control important devices like locks, cameras, and more.

While its equipment is high-quality, customers may be disappointed to find that less standard equipment is offered with AlarmForce’s $29.99-a-month monitoring. Each home security package from AlarmForce comes standard with two door/window contacts. Homeowners with more than one window and one door to cover must pay for additional contacts.

Appears to No Longer Exist

As of 2017, AlarmForce became a subsidiary of Bell Canada Enterprises, BCE. From 1988 to 2004, this company serviced Canada only. When they were acquired, BCE siphoned off customers in Western Canada to Telus. Customers in Eastern Canada now have their home security systems monitored by various BCE companies. The following is a list of Canadian provinces and which companies now service former AlarmForce customers

Available Only to Canada until 2004

  • Alberta: acquired by TELUS in this region
  • British Columbia: acquired by TELUS in this region
  • Saskatchewan: acquired by TELUS in this region
  • Manitoba: Under the BCE company, AAA Secure
  • New Brunswick: Under the BCE company, NextGen Home Security
  • Newfoundland and Labrador: Under the BCE company, NextGen Home Security
  • Nova Scotia: Under the BCE company, NextGen Home Security
  • Prince Edward Island: Under the BCE company, NextGen Home Security
  • Ontario: Under the BCE company, Bell Smart Home or Bell Security and Automation
  • Quebec: Under the BCE company, Bell Smart Home or Bell Security and Automation

In 2004, AlarmForce expanded its reach into the U.S. in the following states: North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida. In 2017, they sold their contracts with U.S. customers to Select Security. This company has an average consumer rating of 0.4 out of 10 on Best Home Security Companys.

Our Recommendation

Since 2019, every review of AlarmForce on our site has been negative. Most of these are customers touching on their dissatisfaction with whatever company AlarForce and Bell Canada Enterprises sold their contracts to. We do not recommend working with AlarmForce at this time. If you are in the United States, we recommend checking out Protect America. If you are in Canada, we recommend seeing if Frontpoint is in your province.

Receiving false alarms in te middle of.the night and no one connects to us via the box. Tech support doesn’t know even which one is the panic button. We don’t know who to phone to check if our alarm is ok or not after having false alarm (We Did not trigger it and alarm force does not want to tell us what is happening). There is a third company involved to answer the alarms but how to find them if they don’t co tact us??? We are staying on a wait for oven 1 hour to talk to a customer service with Telus alarm forse???
What if anything actually happened to us.
We imagined that we buy some security but this is not the case. Just money grabber and zero accountabity on their end. As soon as our contract is over we are cancelling them!
    Do not reccomend them.
In the first year of service we stayed without functioning alarm because they refused to believe that their box was faulty. It took them numerous times to come to our home to tell me it was all ok but it was not because half the doors were not getting detected by the main box. I gave up for some time than we approached them again. It is time waste on our end to deal with faulty equipment and appointments with them.
    We pay for no service!!!

Had a break in happen in the first month I opened my new business. Undortanetly the thieves had smashes my door and gotten in. It being 3:00AM pst I was asleep. Alarm forces tried to contact me but as any person at 3:00AM I was asleep in the time spand from 3:00 until 3:30AM they had continued to try and contact me. But yet they did not contact the police in that time spand. As I was told they did not disbatch the police because only one alarm had gone off. In my first month of business I had a smashed door a product stolen and the theif got off Scott free because the police were not disbatched. I was very disappointed at this point and will no longer continue my services.

I left a review an hour ago. I’m still on hold. 2 hours and counting. I’ve set off my home alarm twice and received no “two way” communication. Go to their website and click on live chat. Says no agents available. What a surprize. Telus…. complete idiots. Stick to looking after telephones. Leave the alarms to the pros.

Telus bought Alarm force in Western Canada. Surprize. No more customer service. As I type this I’ve been on hold for over an hour. I got bored so I set my alarm off. It cycled for a full 5 minutes. No 2 way voice communication, Nothing. Complete garbage.

So Alarm Force sold to Telus. Okay, I have time left on my 2 year contract with Alarm Force so I am thinking Telus bought that contract, the provider is changing but should be okay. Wow, was I mistaken. They spent a full day installing their equipment which is based on Alarm.com. Nice stuff and works well.

But then I get a bill for $273.95 for the install and the equipment. Why? Telus bought the contract, so why do I have to pay this. I have tried to reach them but forget getting through. The Telus contact us for escalation does not include the alarm division so a complete waste of time. Wait time on the phone is always “over 1 hour”.

Oh, and by the way. The other day my wife mistakenly set the alarm. She gave them our secure word we provided and the person who responded could not find it. She ended up having to provide other verification like her name. So much for the security of this system.

Still trying to reach them but I cannot recommend these guys. A while back Telus famously had a notice to consumers that they understood their service was not good and pledged to do better. Well Mr. E, hollow words.

I’ve been a client if alarmforce for 8 years.
The first system was good for awhile then it continually stopped working I was told it was outdated equipment and they offered to come update it with their new cameras. I had a contract for 2 years and continued on for 5 more yrs with no contract till the old system stopped working
When they came to update system they had me sign the form as usual at the end of service visit which was never explained as new contract or 3 yrs.
After being a loyal customer they got me for another contract through trickery
    Dont sign with alarmforce
    There is no loyalty

Just took a look at my credit score and summary. I noticed this company went ahead and pulled a hard copy report from my credit agency which effected my credit score. I did not sign up with them I was simply inquiring about an alarm system. Beware!!

I was a customer of alarmforce for many years before Telus bought it out. It was a well run business that valued its clientele. After Telus took over that situation changed and the service went down hill. As a result, I would not recommend Alarmforce/Telus. I wish Telus had stuck to phone and internet services and left Alarmforce alone. It’s a shame.

This company is impossible to get rid of. We tried to cancel our service 2.5 years ago when we moved out of our building. They said we had a year to run on our contract. So we told them okay we will pay for another year but cancel our service after that. We did not check our credit card as we have too many accounts to monitor them all. They continued to bill us for more than a year after our contract had been completed. When we canceled payment on our credit card they called to say we owed them for equipment even though we knew we had returned it. Nevertheless we agreed to pay nearly $300 for equipment to get them off our back. They then took the information off our cheque and started billing our bank account for monthly fees. We contacted the bank and had the payments charged back. Now they are calling us again saying we owe them for equipment. Do not deal with this company.

My contract is up with Alarmforce next week and they sent me an email “reminding” me of the contract. Concerning the 60 notice, I don’t see how anyone can charge after a contract is satisfied. Anyway, I’m more upset with the customer service. Here is part of an email that I recently sent.

“I want to add that I have been very dissatisfied with your service since I moved to a new address 1 ½ years ago. I have not been able to use your app since I have moved. Your tech set up the system in the new house and the app did not work. I called your customer service and was asked to perform several checks, which did not help. I was then told that someone would call to set up an appointment for someone to come out. After several days, I called back and was told that someone tried to contact me and could not, so, you cancelled the request. I do not answer calls when I don’t recognize the number, and, no one left a message. I was again told that someone would contact me, and, a year and a half later, I still can’t use the app. Now, last weekend we were headed out of town with the system on “away” and received a call that the motion detector was activated. We were close enough to return and checked on the house. We found no issues and left. We received another call about the motion detector and decided to mute it for 72 hours. We were told that a request for service would be initiated. On Monday, we left for work and put the system on “away”. Again, I received a call concerning the motion detector and the girl on the phone said that she would put in a request for service. I stated that there should already be a request; she said it did not show one. She said that it did show that I called, but, no request for service. So, for a week now, we cannot set the alarm when we leave the house.

I will never use your service again, and, I will tell everyone that I know to tell everyone that they know, to never use your service.”

I hope this helps someone to make the right decision, and stay away from Alarmforce/ Select Security

Very negative experience. We had a break in but the camera didn’t record. The previous month we had used our 1000 motion captures. At the beginning of the next month the security system did not reset and when a break in happened the front camera did not record the thieves.

The camera did not record one action the whole month and upon phoning in I was told that customers are required to call in or somehow manually reset the system after they achieve their allotment. This is impractical and not at all intuitive.

Alarm force is by far the worst alarm company anyone can have when you actually have an emergency. The sad part is I had referred them a lot of business. I received a call at 1am one morning when I was out of town. They told me my alarm was triggered. I asked if I was being robbed, they said no the fire men are in your house. I asked if my house was on fire, they said “I dunno! Call 9-1-1!” I pay for cameras, and also the guard. I asked if they dispatched the guards, they didn’t. I asked them too and tonupdate me. They never did. I asked to speak to a manager, they said none was on. I drive home 3hrs at 2am in a complete panic. Thank God the fire damage was minimal but I’m still traumatized by this horrible service. I’ve been trying for three days to cancel my service and they either keep you on hold so long then THEY disconnect you, or they keep transferring you to different departments! But if you select sales they answer right away but refuse to let you cancel. I will also be reporting this to the better business bureau to was so bad.

Ever since BCE has taken over Alarmforce I’ve noticed a decline in service and an increase in wait times.. “Classic Bell” now they want to charge me $75 for a service call when it used to be $50 dollars. People at Alarmforce use to care about the customers but now it seems like it’s all about the money and the customer second.

I had alarmforce at my old home, when I sold the home I notified alarm force of the move and the date I would be there. They made appointment for me that would have them there 1 week later after I took possession of the new home. On the day they were supposed to show, they called me and said that they would have to reschedule due to overbooking appointments. Alarm force said they would call me back to reschedule, a month went by and I never heard from anyone. I then called them back and I was told the representative for that department will have to call me back. At this point I had gotten used to not having an alarm and before I knew it another 2 months had passed. I then called them back and said that I want to cancel the contract as Alarmforce was not fulfilling their end of the agreement and providing me monitoring service, they had no problem still taking money from my account during this whole time. I asked what am I paying for and what are they were monitoring if my is not even hooked up. This company is just like any other with contracts, they hide behind them and only have it work in there favour. To this day nobody on my block has alarm force and I am going to keep sharing this story so that more people out there stop using them or avoid signing up with them.
    Such a horrible company!
