The Good

  • Free In-Home Consultation
  • 24/7 Professional Monitoring
  • Free Standard Installation
  • Text and Email Alerts
  • Home Automation Available

We like that AT&T offers a free in-home consultation for new customers. This helps ensure customers purchase the right service plan and equipment appropriate for their particular home. Also, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with existing home security hardware, making it a seamless transition for customers who have existing systems. In case of a power outage, its equipment comes with a 24-hour battery backup. If you’re looking for home automation solutions, this feature is available, but will come at an additional cost.

The Bad

  • More Expensive Than The Average Home Security Provider
  • Minimum 2-Year Agreement
  • Early Cancellation Fees Starting At $640
  • Poor Customer Reviews (see customer reviews below)

AT&T’s minimum contract is a 2-year agreement starting at $39.99/mo. We have found AT&T’s monthly fees to be higher than the industry average. Also, if you’re wanting to include home automation, this will run you between $54.99-$64.99 per month.

Based on user reviews we’ve received, common customer complaints include installation issues as a result of poor installation practices by AT&T representatives, billing issues resulting in fees, high installation costs, poor customer service, and delays in having the system installed.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for home automation features along with your home security system, AT&T’s offering may meet your needs. However, you will need to sign a 2-year agreement starting at $54.99/mo. If you’re looking for an effective home security solution on a budget we recommend you look elsewhere.

Existing and past customers of AT&T’s have expressed issues related to the installation process and poor customer service. We recommend you read customer reviews below before making your final decision.

Contract and Cancellation

AT&T Digital Life requires at least a two year service agreement for new customers. Each contract will come with its own separate equipment fees and monthly charges. Customers should look over the contract prior to signing up to make sure the terms are clear and all associated fees are made known.

Since there is a two year contract, terminating the contract has its own process. If for any reason the customer cancels prior to the end of the contract, an early termination fee (ranging from $740-$840) will be charged.

Installation

AT&T Digital Life home security and automation packages require professional installation. There is no DIY option. The benefit with the AT&T Digital Life professional installation is that it does not come at an additional charge to the customer. It is considered part of the service once the first fee has been paid.

Customers will need to check availability prior to purchasing AT&T Digital Life. If the services are available in the desired state/cities, customers will need to schedule a time for the technician to come out and install the system. Homeowners will need to be present during the time of the installation.

Monitoring

All three of AT&T’s Digital Life packages come with professional monitoring which allows homeowners to monitor their own homes and families as well. Monitoring services include:

  • 24/7 monitoring – your home will always be protected regardless of the package
  • Homeowner monitoring – use a smartphone, tablet, or PC to check video footage
  • Automation monitoring– adjust thermostats and security systems

Monitoring with the automation packages include:

  • Video monitoring – view live or recorded video footage
  • Door lock status – remotely lock or unlock doors
  • Energy monitoring – conserve energy by adjusting temperature and control of appliances
  • Water detection monitoring – monitors leaks and ambient temperature

Customers will need to download the AT&T Digital Life app in order to monitor their home remotely.

Four months ago I changed the financial responsibility of my father’s Digital Life security system to me since he went into a nursing home and I moved into his home. They didn’t and haven’t honored the same $29.99 plan and wouldn’t do so. I’m charged for $39.99 for the same service. I have fought each month by making a lengthy call and receiving credit and now I’m done. They said last month they would honor $25 per month for 8 months which I agreed to but my bill today came back at $39.99. My frustration level is beyond angry over this companies incompetence. Was told when I cancelled today I would be assessed an early termination. Good luck getting anything from me since when I put At&t phone service and DSL in my name they cancelled out his early termination and just established new service in my name. I WARN YOU NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! They will not honor their obligations they make to you over the phone. The customer service if you can get through is horrible and you’ll be transferred around. I was told I wouldn’t be able to speak with a supervisor when I asked to do so and when I asked for their name was told they couldn’t give it out or their ID number. There is way too much competition for security service to have AT&T’s headache.

Been with this company for 2 months and they haven’t gotten my original installation correct yet. The customer service/retention dept doesn’t know what each dept is doing. Installation/Service is completely jacked-up. For example, i scheduled a installation, but they sent a service technician twice and he refused to do the installation. If you can go with another company, please do it. They aren’t ready to meet Customer Service needs and expectations.

This company should be suited. They’ve sending the alert info to my coworker’s phone but he does not have the service. The info is “someone else'” house info. We contacted them MANY TIMES and they still send the info. He received 700 plus messages over a month and still receive the info. We can post the messages here but I don’t think the other person with the account info will be happy. They don’t seem to want the help. Opened several ticket and had no help. We are seriously consider change the phone but he is using it for while and it will be a lot of work to change the phone service.

The excuse from Digitalle – they dont know how he gets t he message.. how can this be ? They can’t even track their own message?

This is a scam service. The system doesn’t work consistently. I spent more time dealing with customer service. The service is advertised as $29.99 and my bill was around $80 at first. I then complained and they lowered it to $62 per month. And I really had to complain. Then the camera’s stopped working again, and tried to get a technician to repair or replace and he didn’t show up. I decided to cancel. That took an hour and then they said they were going to charge an early termination fee of over $350 dollars. WOW! They kept trying to feed me lines for me to keep the service and I had to be transferred to 2 other people before they finally stopped service. I now have a dispute resolution request in with my credit card company. AT&T DOES NOT STAND BEHIND IT’S CUSTOMER SERVICE GUARANTEE.

I have been a customer since AT&T rolled out the service. The customer service experience is deplorable. The customer service reps on the phone have very little leverage they can provide. When you escalate the call to a manager that person is worthless. This pains me to say this as I am a AT&T retiree. I support the company and I am pro AT&T.
I have been told be friends still working 1st support for digital life are not AT&T badged employees. Which I believe because the persons I speak with cannot provide you with there callback number. Which is totally in AT&T.
    RUN from this service.

The Tech I have no complaints with. I had a problem with my system. Customer service sent out another tech in a timely manner. I was please with that. But here’s the kicker my mother had a system put in the same time I did. The tech didn’t even ask her which color door lock she prefer which I think they should give you a option seeing how much you are out of for there systems. He just put any old thing in there the worst one they had. Look like they would try to match up with your other door knob. The AT&T customer services tried to work with getting my lock switched out but the poor policy of AT&T don’t allow you to be satisfied with the equipment I guess. I think they should tell the technician to ask the customers what color they like. Seeing that they are spending almost 700.00 a year for this equipment. So my advise to anyone looking to get AT&T digital Life system make sure you tell the tech. what style lock u want put in. They offer 3 different styles. Other than that I like my system so far.

The installer put some of the devices need in our furnace closet after we told him not too put any thing in there because it would be dangerous. He decided to ignore that request apparently and he set the surge plug adapter right on top of the furnace which gets very hot. I did not discover it was in there till about a month after it had been installed whe i opened the closet and it is now melted and the surge strip is damaged and could have started a fire I was furious and wanted to cancel service but they said they will charge us $ 550.00 to get out of the 2 year contract even though they almost burnt my house down .I am very dis satisfied with this company The supervisor was rude and no help at all.

Extremely OVER PRICED for the service. An intruder was able to push the camera aside and come right into my home without setting off an alarm. I called the support hotline and was on hold for over 3 hours with no help! I do not recommend AT&T Digital Life to anyone!!!

Worst alarm system ever owned. Customer service is the worst and to upgrade or add additional equipment is pricey and ridiculous. Once my contract is up I will change alarm companies. Avoid the same mistake I made and choose another alarm company.

We’ve had this company for a short time and it has not worked more than it has worked. Their service is horrible. The first time we called them because the system wasn’t working, they took 3 weeks to send a tech. Now a week later we’re having trouble again. Run far away from this company.
How you can charge for a service that isn’t delivered is beyond me. I think an attorney would hit the jackpot here.

Just had Digital Life set up today. The tech was awesome. But…. when I signed up I was told they would use my existing security equipment. It’s all new. Which means holes that new equipment doesn’t cover up. A big white box drilled into my son’s bedroom wall that’s stays plugged in. A new central box so now I have 2! Sensors drilled into the door. I’m super disappointed now that there’s something drilled into or plugged into everything. My last system was so simple and streamlined. I had a bad feeling from the beginning but walking into an AT&T store is like walking into a used car dealership. Even after the contract if I drop it I’m stuck with holes everywhere. I’d pass on this. I’m very regretful and feel less safe than with my old system. Sigh.

Called and told me to “Go run some errands”, instead of showing up for the install appointment and then never called back that day. Called a week and a half later to “follow up”. I am glad they did NOT install. I get a different story from every rep I talk to. Anytime a company gets bigger, customer service and communication suffers. Get your act together att

I changed from Life Shield because they told me At& t had taken over their company. I had been with life shield for several years without any problems. When I did this I did not know I was sign up for 2 years. I wanted the cameras so that I could see who was at my front door before I opened it.. So I bought $600 worth of cameras. I did not know when I paid for them that I could not return them if they did not work properly. The service people that came out were very nice and polite. They installed the camera and I realized he was drilling holes in my walls from the outside of the house in, then ran wires on my walls to reach the wall plugs. I have never seen wires on the walls like this before. One of the wires was to long so he just made a circle on the wall with the wire. I have a huge box behind my tv for the system. The camera were placed wrong. I wanted for the police to be able to identify the person at the door. I could not make out the persons face. If they could identify him/her by the bald spot on top of his head I guess it would work.. I waited 3 months to get them out here. One time they did not show up, I called and was told I would have to make another appt and it would be in two weeks. I have to use AT&T for two years, but it is not because I want to, it is because I am being forced too. If you buy the camera, get them from home depot and then you can return them if you don’t like them. The service person who came last night was very nice, even though I was telling him why I didn’t like At&t.

I have an apt for a technician to come out to install the system they’ve already shipped to my home. Their website says they offer “free” in home consultation. But when I called to have a professional salesman come out, I will transfer THREE times before getting the sales dept. When I talked to him, he stated the technical does the in-home consultation. I asked well technically a technician shouldn’t be doing this. If I called ADT or any other servicer, they would send out a salesman or consultation that is professional trained to “present” their system. A technician can answer my questions BUT is not a consultant. They are there to install the system and I’m sure doesn’t have the temperament to deal with customers exploring the possibilities. After stating this to him, there were ZERO concerns to help or even care whether or not I shipped the equipment back! NOW, this is the Sales Dept!!! LOL He said that he could transfer back to customer service to see if they knew something or could help. I’m like I talked to customer service and have been transfer 3 times just to get to you who THEY say could help…now you want to transfer me again. After I hung up, this may me seriously question if I can to leave my current system that works fine with AT&T. It seems like things they are advertising is deceptive and a play on words. The customer service experience makes me think this is going to common if I go with them. So from reading these other comments about do many other customer service experience…I’m almost sure that I will ship this equipment back….don’t want to experience frustration trying to protect my home!

i changed from ADT to DIGAL LIFE.The tech schattered my french door. With that beening said I wasn’t upset I know things happoen. That was Friday 3/25/16.It is 3/39/16 and I have yet to recieve a call from the company regarding the claim. Since 3/2/16 I have caled and spoken to 10 different people, who have no customer service training. No one can give me an answer to when my glass door will be fixed. All they keep saying is there is a process. We went from a call within 24 hours to a call in 7 days. All they have done is transfer me around.Spoke to someone called Broadway he was rude and told me I wasn’t the only customer with a problem. He stated I just had to wait.Wait I did not schatter the door your tech did .Well your not the only customer with a issue .Great customer service .There are three claims for this one door issue and know one has called me or done a follow up call. They haven’t even asked how they compensate for there mistake.I have been with [email protected] for years as my carrier for my cell phone. I assumed that I would not have any issues .What a mistake Digal Life’s customer service is terrible. They need more training on the alarm system and better training on good customer service. This morning alone I was on the phone for 47 minutes. And nothing was resolved. I so regret changing from ADT to DIGAL LIFE.

Awful! From over billing, to system continually not working, poor customer support. Just Throw $600 out the window, it will be far less frustrating than dealing with these clowns. Make that $1000, I forgot to mention the $400 early termination fee I’ll have to pay to move forward to actually get a system that will work. Seriously, don’t waste your time or money.
