The Good

  • Free In-Home Consultation
  • 24/7 Professional Monitoring
  • Free Standard Installation
  • Home Automation Available
  • Controlled via Mobile App

We like that AT&T offers a free in-home consultation for new customers. This helps ensure customers purchase the right service plan and equipment appropriate for their particular home. Also, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with existing home security hardware, making it a seamless transition for customers who have existing systems. In case of a power outage, its equipment comes with a 24-hour battery backup. If you’re looking for home automation solutions, this feature is available, but will come at an additional cost.

The Bad

  • More Expensive Than Others
  • Minimum 2-Year Agreement
  • Early Cancellation Fees Starting At $640
  • Poor Customer Reviews

AT&T’s minimum contract is a 2-year agreement starting at $39.99/mo. We have found AT&T’s monthly fees to be higher than the industry average. Also, upon signing up with AT&T you will always have to put money down, anywhere from $29.99-$99.99 depending on the package you elect. Many industry leaders will charge nothing upfront, which is why we have taken this into consideration when scoring AT&T Digital Life. If you’re wanting to include home automation, this will run you between $54.99-$64.99 per month, depending on the level of automation you want. *See the equipment tab at the top of this page for complete equipment details.

Based on user reviews we’ve received, common customer complaints include installation issues as a result of poor installation practices by AT&T representatives, billing issues resulting in fees, high installation costs, poor customer service, and delays in having the system installed.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for home security at an affordable price and you live in their service area, AT&T Digital Life is definitely worth looking into. AT&T uses top-of-the-line wireless equipment and provides their customers with an easy-to-use app to control and monitor their system. Also, if you decide to switch over to AT&T’s service from another home-security provider, you may be able to keep your current system.

However, customers must sign a contract and you will have to put money down, whereas our top rated companies don’t require their customers to sign a contract or charge money upfront. The monthly fees are slightly higher than the industry standard and home automation is only available in an upgraded package with a higher upfront cost and increased monthly rate.

Will my pets set off the motion detector?

If you have pets under 35 pounds, you can adjust your motion sensors accordingly.

Contract and Cancellation

AT&T Digital Life requires at least a two year service agreement for new customers. Each contract will come with its own separate equipment fees and monthly charges. Customers should look over the contract prior to signing up to make sure the terms are clear and all associated fees are made known.

Since there is a two year contract, terminating the contract has its own process. If for any reason the customer cancels prior to the end of the contract, an early termination fee (ranging from $740-$840) will be charged.

AT&T Digital Life offers three packages:

Smart Security

  • $29.99 due at signing
  • $39.99 a month with 2 year security agreement

Smart Security & Automation

Monitoring

All three of AT&T’s Digital Life packages come with 24/7 professional monitoring, as well as a mobile app which allows customers to monitor and control their own system via their smart phone. Customers will need to download the AT&T Digital Life app in order to monitor their home remotely.

Monitoring with the automation packages include:

  • Video monitoring – view live or recorded video footage
  • Door lock status – remotely lock or unlock doors
  • Energy monitoring – conserve energy by adjusting temperature and control of appliances
  • Water detection monitoring – monitors leaks and ambient temperature

Installation

AT&T Digital Life home security and automation packages require professional installation. There is no DIY option. The benefit with the AT&T Digital Life professional installation is that it does not come at an additional charge to the customer. It is considered part of the service once the first fee has been paid.

Customers will need to check availability prior to purchasing AT&T Digital Life. If the services are available in the desired state/cities, customers will need to schedule a time for the technician to come out and install the system. Homeowners will need to be present during the time of the installation.

I wish I would’ve read the reviews before having home security installed! I have been trying to get att to register my alarm for a permit for the past 9 months! All these representatives giving me the run around and some have no clue what a permit is needed for. Worst experience ever and I’m so tired of dealing with this newby company. I called so many times I must’ve spoke to their entire staff in the building. I even had a couple of them ask me why I need a permit. Who am I to explain to you guys what a permit is for? You are the ones working for this company. Seriously, these people needs to be retrained and learn how to listen! Same goes for the managers and supervisors! All they do is use Google to help them solve issues. If my issue was as easy as googling my problem, I wouldn’t need you guys to register on my behalf! Explains why they’re top 30 On the list.

Horrible company and customer service!!!! Run…………….The Technician took it upon himself to set up by security questions and pass code. I told him the site was done and so he wanted to leave and just did it himself. Called him and got no where with him because he knew he did something wrong. Called his supervisor, no go there. Spoke with customer service on the phone and I explained what happened and nothing was done! No help, I have a sick pet and the sound was not good, upset her and my other dog. When I came home from work, it went off again! This time the snippy customer service representative would not help or listen! She even went as far as to send the cops! Really……………So, I ripped everything off my walls and unplugged all the systems. I got the sound to stop! Called to cancelled and needed the pass code again. Again, no one would even listen or give me suggestions. Do not buy this service you will be sorry! The installation is horrible, on site registration is horrible, customer service is horrible. That is 3 strikes.

I have had AT&T Digital Life for 9 months. We had a good plan when we signed up,but we were somehow convinced this was a better plan.I believe the main reason we switched was because we were told if someone breaks in we could go back as long as 2 weeks on the recordings to see who might have broken in.We thought maybe we made a mistake when we were done with installation. No video monitor! We always use that to see who is at the door.We also had to pay about $240.00 out of our pockets for early cancellation with our other system.
There are some good things about the system as there is with most any system.I’m not going to go on and on about every problem we have had and there were many, but only today’s problem.I tried to key in the alarm code this morning to let one of our cats out. When I pushed the keypad numbers I did not hear the quiet little beep that tells you the number was accepted.I tried over and over to key in our passcode but it would not work. After about a minute or so our alarm went off.I thought that’s ok,I will wait for the call and they can help me with the problem.
It’s a damn good thing nobody was really breaking in.We,like all of you, depend on the person on the security monitor to help keep us safer.I decided to wait to see how long it would take.First I have to be honest. In the past they have always called within a minute or so.But

today was different.I waited ten minutes and nobody called. Then when I called them, instead going right to a person I got a recording telling me if my alarm was sounding to press 1.That does not take long, but if your life is on the line every second counts it does make a difference.AT&T support told me it could have been upset by a minor earthquake or something like that.I told him that even if that happened they should have known that there was a problem with our alarm system.I was told he would take note of that and he also apologized.
The bottom line is this. There is no excuse for a system that you are paying $90.00 a month for to not be working. If it’s not working when we are gone and they don’t get a signal we could lose everything of value. If it does not work when we are sleeping it could be much worse.
Something for you to consider before getting AT&T Digital Lif.We are cancelling as soon as our contract is up in 15 months.

Worst Customer Service ever. Every time I call, the put me on hold for at least 30-60 minutes. And they use all type of excuse not to take your call. I will never ever use this services from this company again. EVER. It is way more expensive than any of the security services out there.

I have been waiting hours to speak to a customer service rep to disconnect my att security system. They won’t take no for an answer when I asked for service to be discontinued, even though I have had service for over 2 years. I would not recommend this security system, due to poor customer service.

I’ve had troubles getting the alarm to function properly with devices going on and offline consistently. I actually haven’t been able to use this one day and have had technicians out 3 additional times. I’ve been told that people would call me back and they never have. I had an appointment that they just decided not to show up for since they’d already had somebody out before. And they billed me for products that I was told would be provided at no charge. I was also charged for products ordered but never installed as they said those wouldn’t work with my system either. This has been a huge nightmare and a big waste of time. I’m now fighting to have this removed without the charges as I’m technically past my 14 day return time since they’ve come out multiple times telling me they could get it to function properly. Bottom line I think they strung me along with promises so that nobody would have to deal with the cancellation and loss of business. Horrible experience

DO NOT USE AT&T DIGITAL LIFE!!!!!!!!! Please be aware that AT&T Digital has the worst customer I have ever seen. We got this system to help us feel safer in our home. We have had nothing but problem with the system. We had to “service” this system 3 times since it was installed last week. It has never worked properly or help secure the house. Today was the kicker though the technician broke the Air condition/Heat and then tried to leave. After at least 2 hours on the phone with “customer service” we were informed that an Hvac person would be on the way. That person never showed up and no call was made to let us know. We called “customer service” back and were informed that we need to fix our self. That we might be paid back. OR We We can wait till Monday!! It is at least 90 degree in the house. We have now been on the phone with this company for at least 5 hours and have been waiting all day for their service. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY, AT&T DIGITAL LIFE!!!!! PLEASE SHARE THIS POST SO THAT ELSE GET SCREWED BY THIS COMPANY!!!!

The last few times I needed this system in a hurry it wasn’t there to help…. from being logged out and not allowing me access even though I was putting in the right information to kicking me out when trying to watch a security video at 4:45 in the morning. DigitalLife is horrible and when I call I get nothing but bull crap.

**Consumer Beware** I normally do not write negative reviews but this is the worse customer service experience I’ve had in years, if not ever. It first started during the sales installation process where I was promised there would be no additional monthly charge for substituting a garage door sensor in place of an unused packaged window or entry door sensor at no charge. After several billing cycles later I was charged an additional $5 a month for the garage door monitor and then after several phone calls and long waiting periods later promised a 10% discount to counter the charge only after threatening to cancel. After 3 billing cycles I still do not have my discount. As far as I can tell their customer service staff is entirely Offshore who appear to barely speak or comprehend English and really don’t care about the consumer knowing most will sustain the pain since there is an associated hefty early equipment fee if you cancel prior to the 2 year promotional period ends. Along with many others, you can bet I will be going with another security monitoring service the exact day after my 2 year equipment promotional period expires.

Only reason I gave a 1 is due to good alarm otherwise awful! Horrific service. No one can do their job. I’ve been trying since July to have my derive responsibility transferred and have to make 2-3 calls a week and sit on hold for 30+ minutes and no one does anything. Always a different answer and run around. I’m still being charged even though a supervisor told me I wouldn’t and account is still in my name. Huge lack of training on heir end. I never thought I would despise and have such a lack of respect for a company more than Sprint but AT&T Digital Life is doing a great job digging them self a hole

This is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of selecting for service, they simply do not care about the customer, I purchased the system in February of 2016 they installed everything except the outdoor camera, the installer said he did not bring a ladder long enough to reach the roof, would return, never did. I telephoned and scheduled a return three times and they gave appointments and did not show. Friday, September 9th, I took another day off work, priority appointment, still no show, no call, I called they rescheduled from 4 to 7:00 p.m., again no show no call, I called them, they sent me a text to speak with the next level supervisor, who stated they could reschedule again, with priority, and when I asked for a supervisor “what you want to cancel your service”, very rude, and refused to escalate the call. I called the next day told the rep. what happened and again stated I wanted to make a formal complaint for 4 appointments not met, 6, if you count the installation appointment which was also rescheduled and not met. They put me on hold for over an hour, and never returned.

Definitely the worst service a company can provide. Yesterday, 9/11/2016, they decided to do a system wide upgrade to the web site and the mobile apps that you use to monitor and control your devices. It is fine to do upgrades, but they shut down these platforms for over 6 hours! On top of that I had to wait almost 50 min to be able to talk to someone in tech support. I had also reached out to the Twitter handle @ATTcares to get some kind of answer, well it took them 12 hours to reply to my message, seriously??? To add even more I cannot cancel this horrible service because we are just pass the 14 day buyer remorse, how convenient for them right? Please stay away from this horrible company, they do not care about their customers, they just want to lock you in a contract so then you have to pay almost $700 in cancellation fees. Someone needs to come up and get a better service for this, STAY AWAY from them and let others know!

They tried to do the install by running extension cords in our attic. My husband threw a fit, AT&T did nothing and insisted that it was safe. My husband got fed up and called the state fire marshal and guess what, AT&T came out and hard wired everything in the attic because they were installing fire hazards and should never have been putting in extension cords. BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT LET THEM INSTALL ANYTHING IN THE ATTIC WITH AN EXTENSION CORD. THIS IS A HUGE FIRE HAZARD SO WHY INSTALL SOMETHING MEANT TO KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SAFE WHEN IT COULD QUITE LITERALLY KILL YOU. CALL YOUR STATE FIRE MARSHAL AND REPORT THEM IF THEY TRY TO DO THE INSTALL WITH EXTENSION CORDS.

Service has been good overall but not just stellar. This is our first security system ever so I have nothing to compare it to, but honestly I expected better service than we get. App has improved significantly so that helps but a few things just don’t make sense…technician fees for example.

Biggest aggravation is that they randomly decide to update the app and their website and never give advanced notice so we know there will be an outage for live feed, app / website access, and using the app to remotely open door locks or garage doors.

They also have a system you can use to self-troubleshoot or you can call customer service. Customer service typically takes an hour and sometimes cannot solve the problem. Then they offer to send out a technician to fix an issue that is THEIR fault or should be able to be done remotely. Once the technican gets out here, they fix the issue but then there is a $99.99 service call fee that nobody told us about. I would accept this if the issue was caused by our normal wear / tear or if it was a result of us breaking something but there have been times that a camera just stopped working and they could not reset remotely and charged us the fee. Even switching Internet service providers will cause them to have to come out to switch it over for you, costing $99.99. I only recall getting them to waive the fee once and I was told it was a one time thing and they would not waive another fee and that I should assume the technican will cost the fee even if the problem is truly a glitch or their fault.
