Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, AT&T Digital Life provides home security and automation services to residents in 34 states. The company offers several pieces of home security equipment, including video cameras, remote door locks, garage controls, smart lights, and energy management tools. In addition to Digital Life’s 24/7 security monitoring, customers can quickly and easily access their Digital Life wireless home security system from anywhere in the world via mobile app.

The Good

  • Free in-home consultations
  • 24/7 professional monitoring
  • Free standard installations
  • Home automation services available
  • Remote access via mobile app

Free In-Home Consultations

AT&T Digital Life offers free in-home consultations to interested consumers. This helps to ensure that the customer will purchase the equipment and service plan that is best for them and their particular home.

24/7 Professional Monitoring

Digital Life professionally monitors each of its home security systems around the clock, which means customers can rest assured that their home and family will be safe in the event of a break-in.

Free Standard Installations

AT&T Digital Life will perform all standard home security system installations for free. This cuts down on upfront costs and makes installing a security system more affordable for customers. Additionally, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with other hardware, so customers who already have home security equipment can make a seamless transition to Digital Life.

Home Automation Services Available

If you’re interested in home automation services, AT&T offers smart locks, smart lights, smart thermostats, smart appliances, and garage controls. However, these features come at an additional cost.

Remote Access via Mobile App

Customers can access and control their home security system remotely with AT&T Digital Life’s mobile app, which available for iOS, Android, and Windows devices.

The Bad

  • More expensive than some competitors
  • Minimum 2-year agreement
  • Early cancellation fees may apply
  • Poor customer reviews

More Expensive than Some Competitors

Upon signing up with Digital Life, customers are required to put $39.99 to $99.99 down, depending on which package they’ve selected. Additionally, AT&T’s monthly monitoring fees range from $39.99 to $64.99 per month, which is higher than industry average. Check out the Equipment Review section below for specific package pricing information.

Minimum 2-Year Agreement

AT&T Digital Life’s minimum service agreement is 24 months, which means that customers will either be locked into a contract for at least two years or have to pay steep cancellation fees.

Early Cancellation Fees Apply

Customers do have the option to get out of their Digital Life contract—at a price. Early cancellation fees start at $640 and go up from there, depending on how much time you have left in your agreement.

Poor Customer Reviews

Based on user reviews we’ve received, common customer complaints include installation problems and delays, billing issues resulting in fees, and poor customer service. AT&T Digital Life currently ranks in the bottom 10% in user review scores of all home security companies we have reviewed. Over 500+ people have shared their experience here with AT&T Digital Life and on average, those people have said their experience was roughly a 2/10.

The Bottom Line

AT&T Digital Life offers high-quality equipment and provides its customers with free standard installations, 24/7 monitoring, and an easy-to-use mobile app. They also require their customers to sign into a two-year contract that can only be cancelled by paying a steep fee. These are all pretty common features with other home security providers. The big thing to watch out for with AT&T Digital Life are the customer reviews. With so many of them being negative, it’s worth taking the time to research other providers that have a much more positive customer sentiment. Companies like Frontpoint Security, Protect America, and SimpliSafe.

Worst customer service. They tricked me into a discounted monthly price, and then completed installation and did not provide the discount. They conveniently forgot to document anything and the supervisor couldn’t do anything. Please stay away from this company. Absolute scam.

App is usually unresponsive or slow to respond, resulting in “timing out”. Things such as adjusting temperature, turning lights off or on with the “smart plug”, etc. I’ve used 3 different security companies over time; one was the largest company around and the other 2 were through my phone provider. Based on my experiences, phone companies need to stick to what they do and get out of the home security business until they can offer services that actually work. AT&T Digital Life is by far the worst I’ve experienced and I can’t wait until my contract is up so I can go back to an experienced company with equipment that works.

Horrible service from day 1. Install was 6 hours late, they didn’t share the information on registering with the city. I put the security system in because i was putting my house on the market and needed additional monitering. I was told when I sold my house I could be released from the contract. That was a lie. They would not work with me on this at all. The people that bought my house activated the service so not only did they charge me for another year but they were paid for the service by the new home owners!

Each time Digital Life performs system updates, our equipment will malfunction, which results in a call to customer service technicians to resolve. The latest update indicated that our keypad was malfunctioning and a service technician was sent out. The representative did not indicate there would be a $100 copay for this keypad replacement. When the tech arrived to complete the replacement, he mentioned that these fees are usually waived, however they would not waive. While the tech was still onsite, I contacted customer support and magically, all systems revealed no issues and no keypad issues. Home performed tests also revealed that equipment is fine – nothing needed replacement — simply system communication issues within their infrastructure on Feb 11. We are very disappointed with the service, and my husband is an AT&T employee; he is embarrassed that we purchased the system.

Technician was great. Products were good. However, customer service and billing were horrible. Over the span of 9 months my bill was never fixed properly and I called in every month to ask why my discount isn’t on the bill. Every representative and manager stated that the issue with my billing would be fixed and that they were putting down notes. They also cancelled my service while I was in good standing. It’s so much that went wrong. Want security? Look elsewhere!!

Buyer be ware. If you choose to cancel your digital life service, the camera’s and most all of their equipment will not work with any other systems and there is no return policy or credit options with any of the other AT&T services. I was sold eight cameras and wireless window sensors. My home already was wired with preexisting windows sensors of which they would not use as well as my smoke detectors. They simply added six more smoke detectors (wireless) and claimed the others were not compatible with their system. My certified new security specialists said that the wireless system they installed was hardwired by the AT&T technicians because they could not get the wireless unit to drive the cameras. Also they sold me an indoor camera that had panning capabilities and several months later i learned that the camera would no longer pan around the room because they discontinued that function.
Another issue is that it often took 10 minutes to arm and disarm the security system with their smart phone app.

This company is the WORST!!!! Although I don’t have a problem with the alarm itself, I have had a horrible time trying to transfer my service to my new home. The customer service is awful and I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy!!!

I have had DL for 2 years now and have nothing but praise for the service. Main battery went bad and I had a new one within a week at no charge. Very reliable system and is constantly being upgraded with new features. Only drawback is to add a camera after you have service will incur a $100.00 plus fee to have installed.. I had a great installation and believe that is what it is all about for system reliability. Billing has been spot accurate and they are easy to get a hold of. Do not know what rock these others crawled out from.

Multiple service calls for “security” sensors not working, hard reboot several times, technicians coming 2 days in a row for the same issues and results. The latest issues were all sensors not registering i.e. off-line including smoke, motion and entry sensors. Is this a security system? Yesterday, February 2, 2017 the tech came out and re-synchronized the sensors, hard rebooted the system leaving with “everything working” , I was told.
This was a repeat from the day before with the tech doing the same thing with the same results i.e. “everything is working”. Yet the next morning the sensors were Off-Line again.
I have been on the phone a total of 6 hours over a period of 3 days. I am the CEO of a software company and understand business, software issues (which I believe is the issue) and technical support. However, I am re-routed through technical support to another department to cancel the agreement, then re-routed back to support to have a technician verify the system is not working. This morning, Friday, February 3, Digital Life texted me the system was not working and I should call them. If they know the system is not working why do I need to have another technician come out a third day in a row to tell them the system Is not working?
Now, really reading the 2 year agreement contract, I have no legal position other than small claims court or binding arbitration….me against AT&T?…we know the outcome!

If i can save one person the frustration I have had since day 1, and i do mean day 1, I will be happy. My cameras went down less than 12 hours after install and I have had multiple and i mean multiple issues with my systemever since. Cameras going offline, garage door not opening, system going down etc etc etc. In the 10 months I have had this alarm, I have had no less than 7 service calls with each saying all is good (it wasn’t). Not to mention the several over the phone fixes. My daughter has been locked out on 3 occasions and now my system is malfuntioning due to a frequency interruption. Once my 2 years are up I will personally rip the system out and go back to a hard line system.
If you choose to go forth with one of these systems all I can say is good luck and i wont say i told you so.

Customer Service is horrible. Multiple equipment failures

I am constantly sending back equipment for replacement. Sensors fail with a message of tamper detected even days after replacing batteries. Multiple false alarms especially at midnight. Do not install the garage openers. The system does not monitor when the door opens. I have asked the technician to add sensors to the garage door itself to detect if it opens. Last night the system opened my garage door by itself. Since the system was armed, the alarm went off with an intrusion alert! I contacted the company and I was informed that somebody is going to come and check the system but after being promised many times. Nobody came and the company keeps on cancelling appointments. STAY AWAY from AT&T Digital Life. It makes your house unsafe!

What a bunch of crooks. I signed up for their system and they sent someone out to start the installation process. Couldn’t be finished in 2 days so they set up another appointment. They then cancelled 4 different appointments for the completion of the install. I called to cancel and they said that since I was past the 14 cancellation period I owed them $600! For a system that was never installed! This is a scam to set up a bunch of appointments, fail to install and then charge unsuspecting customers $600 for canceling a contract they never lived up to. Tell all of your friends to watch out. I lost all respect for ATT.

So your thinking about AT&Ts DigitalLife? Well, DONT , JUST RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN ANY OTHER DIRECTION!! We have had the system for 9months and in that time they have had to replace the touch tablet twice, constant camera failures, the system is just buggy. Spontaneous alarms chirping at 3am telling me ‘crash detected’ and nothing at all, cameras consistently not working due to either ‘connectivity’ or ‘poor signal’ and I’m running on high speed with an 2200ac router. The panel goes out and I have had to do a hard reset (unplug from wall, remover cover, remove battery, wait 5 mins and do everything in reverse) a dozen times or more! And now, they are telling me that I have to pay them to come get there crap out of my house. Also it is not compatible with any other system… this had potential, but they have failed miserably. I just wish there would have been honest reviews when I was looking.

I was forced to move out of the rent house where I had AT&T Digital Life because of the house being sold, I had to move quickly to an apartment that I could afford, and I explained this to AT&T Digital Life three times and they still are going to charge me the cancellation fee, stating that they have service around me. How can I help it if places around me accept it but this complex does not? Less than zero customer service do not get this alarm system
