The Good

  • Free In-Home Consultation
  • 24/7 Professional Monitoring
  • Free Standard Installation
  • Home Automation Available
  • Controlled via Mobile App

We like that AT&T offers a free in-home consultation for new customers. This helps ensure customers purchase the right service plan and equipment appropriate for their particular home. Also, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with existing home security hardware, making it a seamless transition for customers who have existing systems. In case of a power outage, its equipment comes with a 24-hour battery backup. If you’re looking for home automation solutions, this feature is available, but will come at an additional cost.

The Bad

  • More Expensive Than Others
  • Minimum 2-Year Agreement
  • Early Cancellation Fees Starting At $640
  • Poor Customer Reviews

AT&T’s minimum contract is a 2-year agreement starting at $39.99/mo. We have found AT&T’s monthly fees to be higher than the industry average. Also, upon signing up with AT&T you will always have to put money down, anywhere from $29.99-$99.99 depending on the package you elect. Many industry leaders will charge nothing upfront, which is why we have taken this into consideration when scoring AT&T Digital Life. If you’re wanting to include home automation, this will run you between $54.99-$64.99 per month, depending on the level of automation you want. *See the equipment tab at the top of this page for complete equipment details.

Based on user reviews we’ve received, common customer complaints include installation issues as a result of poor installation practices by AT&T representatives, billing issues resulting in fees, high installation costs, poor customer service, and delays in having the system installed.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for home security at an affordable price and you live in their service area, AT&T Digital Life is definitely worth looking into. AT&T uses top-of-the-line wireless equipment and provides their customers with an easy-to-use app to control and monitor their system. Also, if you decide to switch over to AT&T’s service from another home-security provider, you may be able to keep your current system.

However, customers must sign a contract and you will have to put money down, whereas our top rated companies don’t require their customers to sign a contract or charge money upfront. The monthly fees are slightly higher than the industry standard and home automation is only available in an upgraded package with a higher upfront cost and increased monthly rate.

Contract and Cancellation

AT&T Digital Life requires at least a two year service agreement for new customers. Each contract will come with its own separate equipment fees and monthly charges. Customers should look over the contract prior to signing up to make sure the terms are clear and all associated fees are made known.

Since there is a two year contract, terminating the contract has its own process. If for any reason the customer cancels prior to the end of the contract, an early termination fee (ranging from $740-$840) will be charged.

AT&T Digital Life offers three packages:

Smart Security

  • $29.99 due at signing
  • $39.99 a month with 2 year security agreement

Smart Security & Automation

  • $49.99 due at signing
  • $54.99 a month with 2 year security agreement

Premium Security & Automation

  • $99.99 due at signing
  • $64.99 a month with 2 year security agreement

Monitoring

All three of AT&T’s Digital Life packages come with 24/7 professional monitoring, as well as a mobile app which allows customers to monitor and control their own system via their smart phone. Customers will need to download the AT&T Digital Life app in order to monitor their home remotely.

Monitoring with the automation packages include:

  • Video monitoring – view live or recorded video footage
  • Door lock status – remotely lock or unlock doors
  • Energy monitoring – conserve energy by adjusting temperature and control of appliances
  • Water detection monitoring – monitors leaks and ambient temperature

Installation

AT&T Digital Life home security and automation packages require professional installation. There is no DIY option. The benefit with the AT&T Digital Life professional installation is that it does not come at an additional charge to the customer. It is considered part of the service once the first fee has been paid.

Customers will need to check availability prior to purchasing AT&T Digital Life. If the services are available in the desired state/cities, customers will need to schedule a time for the technician to come out and install the system. Homeowners will need to be present during the time of the installation.

Very unhappy and dissatisfied with this device so call alarm system , it is a joke . I feel awful that i have to keep paying you even though I already have gotten robbed and you camera showed nothing . Your system good down or you all say its upgrading still it does not work . I have actually spent 2 1/2 hours waiting for you all to help me and then just to get disconnect . I went with you all because you carried the name AT&T but it’s so bad that I don’t ever want anything to do with AT&T again. EVER !!!!!!

My wife and I ordered ATT Digital Life on Saturday August 20th, 2016. We decided to cancel their service on Sunday August 21st, 2016. We called Digital Life and got a person name Darius on the phone who was supposed to put notes in our account to cancel the service and to not ship the equipment. She then instructed us to call back on Monday August 21st, 2016 to officially cancel. The notes were never placed in our account at all.On Monday August 21st, 2016 we called and started the cancellation process which is was an absolute nightmare. We went through three departments and no one could help us until we finally got a hold of a technical support person who could actually speak english. We had to verify the order was cancelled we had to verify that the equipment was not shipped, we got the ATT badge numbers of both the technical support person and of this person supervisor. Our best advice stay as far away from digital life as you possible can and unless you like dealing with customer service headaches. We were on the phone for over an hour for something that should take no more than 15 minutes tops to handle since the equipment had not been shipped and nothing had been installed. I would like to how did ATT decide to place this in their line up of services. I could just imagine what billing is like.

I don’t think I’ve ever had such horrible customer service in my entire life starting from the installation until now.

    – the technician that was sent to my house to install the alarm system was clearly untrained. He attempted to install the main control box directly below my fuse box even though he was replacing an alarm system that was located in a different part of my house. He drilled through both of the electrical wires to my clothes dryer which caused a huge spark that almost set my house on fire. The electricity was knocked out the entire weekend. I had to cancel my son’s birthday party and all of my food in the fridge/freezer was ruined. I was assigned a person to handle the damage right away. However, he wasn’t really helpful because I ended up having to find my own electrician to repair the damage. I then had to take off work at least 4 times to meet various contractors to work on repairing the damage.

    – i have repeatedly asked for $200 to replace the food that was ruined was is a fraction of what I had in there. They had the gall to ask for receipts of all of my food. Who keeps grocery receipts.

    – Ive only had one alarm trigger, and instead of calling me, they called someone that was about 3rd on my list, so they didn’t know what to do.

    – I have been trying to cancel my account since shortly after the installation (in Feb). It is now almost September and they still haven’t finalized my claim, so will anyone tell me when it’s going to happen.

    – They are now trying to tell me to visit an AT&T store to cancel.

    – I literally hate these people, and every phone call and email practically reduces me to tears because of the frustration.

Nope! First the installer put the keypad on the opposite side of the house from my garage. When I come home or leave I go through my garage…. He said there was no place to put the key pad in that area. Next, I have 2 small dogs. One weighs 7 lbs, the other weighs 12. They told me they wouldn’t be a problem with the motion detector since they are under 50 lbs. The next day, my internet didn’t work. It was due to the way the security system was installed. Sooo, I had to call and have them come back out to fix the internet. When the man came for the internet, he couldn’t believe the security person installed it the way he did and that my keypad was on the opposite side of the house. He reported it and fixed my internet which uninstalled my security system. A couple of days later a different person came to fix my security system and moved the keypad to a logical place by the garage. Now I have 5 holes in my wall…. I had just moved into my brand new house. I never in my life thought I’d have a new house and within a week of moving in I have holes to be fixed. A few days later a woman came to check out the installation of the security system. I thought she was coming because of the bad initial installation, but she hadn’t even been notified. When she came in my door she could hear my dogs barking. I had them in a kennel so they wouldn’t bother her while she was in my home. She asked if I left them out when I wasn’t home. The answer to that was, Yes! She informed me that they would trigger the motion detector. As I said earlier, I had been told they wouldn’t be a problem, so at this point I told her I wanted the system removed and all holes in my walls fixed. Nothing was the way it had been represented! noone knows what anyone else is doing! Anyway, she said they wouldn’t fix the new holes. I didn’t argue with her, I just called corporate. Last week it was removed and I have an appointment with someone to come fix the holes at at&t’s expense. In 2 weeks I had at least 5 at&t or at&t related appointments. I’m glad i’m retired, or I wouldn’t have been able to take care of this situation. As far as service is concerned, my mother who lives next door had digital life installed the same day I did. She still has hers, but….. about a week after she had it installed, she came outside to talk to me. About 5 minutes into our conversation, I asked what that beeping sound was. It wasn’t very loud, but i could faintly hear it. We realized she had accidentally set off her alarm. She went inside and turned it off. Since I’m second on her call list, I checked my phone. They had called twice, but since the system was turned off after about 5 minutes, they didn’t dispatch even though they never spoke to anyone. Every security system I’ve had in the past 20 years, called even if you turned it off and I had to give them my pass code. If a burglar had been in her house and put a gun to her head and told her to turn the system off, she would have. That’s when the monitoring system should have called anyway, asked for the pass word. She could give them a fake word and they should dispatch. Finally, the siren isn’t very loud (all the sirens i’ve had in the past would have alerted neighbors) and they don’t dispatch even if they don’t actually speak to you. She turned hers off around 5 minutes after setting it off.

When the installation tech said He was done, I noticed He didn’t go into some rooms. So I asked how are My Daughter’s room protected. He replied they are not, He didn’t have enough sensors and someone will have to come out and finish. After 18 days I called. The broken english speaking person said there was no service call in the system. And to finish protecting My house I would need to purchase what “I” thought would protect My house. I kindly informed Her “I” was not a security engineer and if they were going to charge Me hidden fees to protect My house, Please cancel. They will not unless I pay over $600. I have 14 “I was told 30” days to cancel after installation. I also told Her My front door lock doesn’t work. I was transferred to service. They couldn’t figure it futon the phone and was told someone would call the next day at 9am. week later still waiting and I have no keys to the lock. I guess they are extra also

Before getting digital life – we had self installed cheap cameras. They were great. These are poor quality video. Installed in a manner where we have been robbed twice in 2 weeks and don’t have a face on camera. The app freezes. The video freezes. And there is no way to have a monitor. You can look at it on your phone or tablet and that’s it. Then the app times out. We hate it but are stuck in a contract.

ATT was present in the home we bought so we asked that it be rolled over in our name. We were told that it was successful and went to load our personnel information into the system. It turns out that it was not done properly by ATT and the system could not be made to work. I went through hours on the phone and then when I went to cancel they wanted me to pay a service fee to cancel. There technical service people agreed it didn’t work but accounting still refused.
I have come to the conclusion this whole thing is a scam. There customer service center is in Jamaica with people who clearly don’t have the authority to do anything but quote the book in front of them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! They do not act in good faith and work to wear you down so you will just pay to be done with it.

I am new to this at&t thing. I was guaranteed a two camera, digital video recording security system by in-store management w/free tablet if I sign now. It sounded like a good deal and I thought it would allow my children and I to feel ‘safe;.
    This system is HORRIBLE!!!
I have been charged and paying a monthly fee only to find out nothing works or records; documented passwords mysteriously don’t match; keypad malfunctions; they call police when you tell them not to and to add insult to injury, I spent 5 hours on one call to customer service, technical support & sales; only to find out that the camera never recorded any activity since installed in December 2015(the 1 main reason(or selling point for getting this system) RECORDED SECURITY is what I thought I was paying for. I will let at&t explain the rest since they alledgedley record and or type notes in my account.
By the way, after 5 hours on the phone with multiple reps, NOTHING was resolved especially when I wanted to cancel due to them not providing the services they guaranteed under their contract. Sadly, I was promptly disconnected. I will be filing a complaint with the FCC due to misrepresentation of services not rendered and faulty equipment.
I can not support at&t for poor service on all levels.

As someone that talked my wife into switching to this system, a very poor decision. Posting this review is not very easy as I always try to see the best in most “high tech” systems. Unfortunately, this ATT Digital Life System has been a total nightmare. Since the installation of the system in February of 2016, I have spent 22+ hours on the phone to address billing, technical and many other problems. As a matter of fact, I waited earlier this evening 1 hour and 15 minutes for someone to answer my call. When I got on the phone with technical support, that call lasted for more than one hour. I was then transferred to the rentention department to address a billing problem from June 6, 2016 as I cancelled some services which has not been reflected in our current bill and the problems go on and on. Whenever I want to call, it takes 2 or 3 days for me to get mentally prepared for the gut-wrenching agrivation experienced when trying to resolve problems with this service. I can truly say that I have never experienced anything like the total confusion, unconnected communication, poor record retention, unacceptable poor quality equipment and many other things that make this experience with ATT a Harvard Business School example of how to run customers away from your business or to put it another way, how to fail in business. Words are not available to describe how horibally bad this experience has been for me. I only hope this review helps anyone reading to learn from my experience and not have to go through this customer service hell I have experienced. Thanks for taking the time to read about my experience.

It was just … horrible. We bought a house that already had ATT digital life… and as part of the escrow we signed paper work to take over the brand new contract that had been put in to protect the empty home.

Dealing with the customer service at ATT was.. horrible. I am pretty sure that most of my calls went to Pakistan or India… and getting to a level 2 person was almost impossible. I was at the ATT store near to our home and confirmed all the (promises)lies that led is into wanting the system.. and when the store manager contacted ATT tech support.. he got the same run around. Time after time. It was horrible. I though for sure that after being punished for weeks by their customer relations group… that some consideration would be given regarding the termination fee. But.. nope. Best $400.00 I have spent in long time was getting out of my ATT contract. Of course I should have paid nothing as they delivered.. nothing. They won’t be around long I hope.

You should know that if you want the bundle plan, att digital wont be included with phone, or tv billing, ironic huh This has caused a billing nightmare for me, and may for you as well. It may mean you think your paying your bill for all when you are not, have a massive balance to your surprise later, lose out on your bundle discount as a result, drag out the whole process much longer than need be.

You will get inconsistent responses from customer service reps, att digital has no access to other att billing systems. If you call att digital you will sit on hold forever, if you do the online chat they more or less tell you to to call after having you verify your security info, effectively wasting your time.

My digital life balance seems to fluctuate for seemingly no reason what so ever, should be a flat rate every month. Cant get a rep to answer why.

    I hate this service.

Horrendous experience, and still happening. MINIMUM 30 MINUTE WAIT on phone to Cust Srvc,. ANY TIME. NO ALTERNATE BILLING OR PAYMENT OPTIONS; on line. Can’t pay their HIGH RATES and want to split payment, TOO BAD!

HELD HOSTAGE for a service call that was NOT AUTHORIZED; Cust Srvc is UNWILLING to negotiate the erroneous fee. A tech was SENT by ATT to look at our power issue. He did a battery change, checked connections and left without a word about a charge. Got a bill for $100. THEY SENT HIM! It could not be resolved without a Tech. so why am I charged for their equipment problem?

Digital Life IS A MESS. DO NOT PURCHASE! Want out of deal, $500!!!
