More Expensive than Some Competitors

Upon signing up with Digital Life, customers are required to put $39.99 to $99.99 down, depending on which package they’ve selected. Additionally, AT&T’s monthly monitoring fees range from $39.99 to $64.99 per month, which is higher than industry average. Check out the Equipment Review section below for specific package pricing information.

Minimum 2-Year Agreement

AT&T Digital Life’s minimum service agreement is 24 months, which means that customers will either be locked into a contract for at least two years or have to pay steep cancellation fees.

Early Cancellation Fees Apply

Customers do have the option to get out of their Digital Life contract—at a price. Early cancellation fees start at $640 and go up from there, depending on how much time you have left in your agreement.

Poor Customer Reviews

Based on user reviews we’ve received, common customer complaints include installation problems and delays, billing issues resulting in fees, and poor customer service. Read real customer reviews below.

The Bottom Line

AT&T Digital Life offers high-quality equipment and provides its customers with free standard installations, 24/7 monitoring, and an easy-to-use mobile app. However, AT&T requires its customers to sign into a two-year contract that can only be cancelled by paying a steep fee. Additionally, Digital Life’s monthly monitoring fees are higher than many of its competitors.

I was scheduled to have service installed on 12/2 between 8-12. I called because no one showed up. They tell me somehow the appointment was inadvertently canceled by their company but they’ve gone ahead and made a new appointment for tomorrow. I tell them that tomorrow was not convenient and that is why the appt was scheduled for today. After a lot of back and forth the woman canceled my pending service and I was told if I wanted it to reschedule I would have to have my credit ran again. Fat chance. There customer service is very incompetent and in addition they did nothing to compensate me for my aggravation and inconveniences caused by their very inept company.

Worked as an installer. The system is cheap and held together with false advertisement and free addon promises from dispatch. They will do anything in their power to get you past the buyers remorse period so they can rip you off when you inevitably want to cancel. Most installers are peel and stick and work for a shoddy company called Mastec. Stay the hell away from digital life and shop around before making any kind of choice on home security, and for the love of god read the fine print!

I was ADT customer for 8 years and was satisfied with their system. But I was looking for something different and wanted an automated online alarm system. Then I heard about AT&T Digital Life system and wanted to give it a try. But it was the worst system ever!! From the day I have it installed, it has so many issues with the tablet and the digital life app. Whenever they do some system maintenance or testing they don’t notify customers and you’re stuck in the house because you cannot arm or disarm the system. And when you calling customer service, the service reps don’t know how to fix the issues. Then they send out a technician to fix it and charge you a fee about $80. It’s really messed up!!

I’m very regretful about my decision to go with AT&T Digital Life System. I wish I could cancel it but I’m stuck with their hefty cancellation fees for 2 years. So I will never recommend this system to family, friends or to anyone.

Buyers be aware of these charlatans called ATT digital life.
Do not put the security of your family in their hands.
I installed their system and I am so sorry to do so. I have had their system for over a moth and I have had 5 false alarms. They cannot resolve the problem. I have to put the system on bypass to arm it. That means no security. They are just bad, bad installation bad in service bad in everything. I would give them on a 1 to 10 scale a 1. My ATT sales person for my cell phone got me in this mess, I will change my phone carrier as soon as I can. They just lie to you. If the ATT sale’s person tried to sale you any other services just run out of their store. They put you in a two-year contract and if you leave they will destroy your credit. If you are in an ATT store and they offer you other services know that they are con man they have no integrity. I was with my previous Alarm company and not only they were less expensive but I never had any problem with them, their system worked flawlessly. I guess this is my reward to come to ATT. I will move all my services to other carriers soon. That will include the Tv, phone and security system.

The worst customer service I have ever dealt with! The retention department actually made he want to cancel my service even more. Installation never took place because the sales guy ordered EVERYTHING wrong. I was placed on hold for 88 minutes. I was trying to remain open minded and not cancel my service but was treated so rudely that I ended up cancelling. They might have cool technology but it isn’t worth the fees. I felt bad for the techs they were really nice and knowledgeable and also treated terribly by their own team trying to help me. How am I suppose to trust them to actually monitor my home? 100% terrible!

ROTTEN , ROTTEN UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE. i AM STUCK WITH THESE FOLKS!!!U
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE uneducated workers who are are not bright ,some are well meaning others are just plain rude. I want out, but I am stuck due to the contract. System down for two days. I must have called over 30 times with no luck. I will file a consumer complaint tomorrow . It has been approx. 30 hours total of trying to get help to turn the system turned back on. They are paid up until January 2017. Listen folks I speak only the truth. The system is great, but I have had customer service problems starting back until August when they were sending the bill to the wrong address, then they had the wrong spelling down for my log in info. The trouble shooter dept.f folks must be from MARS or Jupiter because they are out of their minds. I am filing a consumer complaint form as soon as I finish this and calling the Attorney General tomorrow as well. I refused to be locked into a contract without anyone to listen or believe me. All of this is due to me forgetting the password, but you can not change it if the system is down and they won’t talk to you without the password. I had to go in person 2 times to confirm I am the actual owner. I was told I am not listed as the owner. Yesterday i went n person and the ATT employee also got fed up with them. He was unable to help, but at least he tried. i answered the security questions, but today the site said the online responses were wrong. This just not okay!

Absolutely Awful service I 100% recommend Protect America, they provide even better technology, a better app and THE BEST customer service

I’ve waited on hold with AT&T for over 7 hours total over three phone calls and after a piece of their equipment broke I reached out to them and still haven’t received anything 911 days later

This is the worst! The app is constantly updating so when you need to set it there have been countless times that I needed to set it remotely and I couldn’t because when the app is updating, the whole system is so you can’t even go online and do it and customer service can’t do it for you either. Their response is, “Sorry, there is nothing we can do.” It would be one thing if they chose to update the app during off peak times (like overnight) but they do it during peak times (the morning, the middle of the day, or Sunday mornings during church which are the peak times for break ins. I would not recommend this to anyone!

I have AT&T digital life!!! I like the system but last week I got a notice on the keypad about low battery For my garage door!!! I called them and the gentleman I talked to was very nice but he couldn’t figure out the problem so he got a supervisor!!! I really wish I had her name she was very rude.. Told me to buy the batteries because they do not supply them …told me the batteries to buy and they would be charging me $99 for the them to come out!!! Well I spent $20+ for the batteries she told me to buy!!! When the wonderful gentleman that came out to Change the batteries he had what needed and told me the batteries she told me to buy were the batteries for my carbon monoxide monitor not my door sensors and yes they carry the batteries!!! Everyone I dealt with were amazing except for the supervisor!!!!

If you are considering the purchase of this system, FORGET IT! For three, yes THREE, years I made numerous phone calls complaining about the poor product and service of this system. I finally gave up one month or so ago & informed them that I was not paying for the last month of service because the system was still faulty. Most, not all, service men have no idea how the system works and despite a slew of service men coming to ‘fix’ it, it never worked properly. At times I could see who was at the door, but most of the time, not. Today, I had a lady tell me how much I still owed the company & despite my repeatedly telling her that the system was never repaired, she literally rattled on and on and on without caring at all about the issues that caused me to cancel the service. I’ve now received a letter telling me AT&T will refer me to a debt collector if I do not pay the sum owed – $57.98. There should be a venue through which one can sue such companies without it costing an arm and a leg. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

If you are ever thinking about getting alarm service with AT&T digital life. DON’T DO IT! It is definitely not recommended. They are practicing misleading and deceptive sales tactics. They quoted me a price and then somehow magically decided to just NOW inform me that the price is only good for 8 months out of a 2 year contract. I don’t mind paying for something that I agreed on but they are very very SNEAKY. If I could I would sue them or have them investigated from the installation team to the customer service team. It’s just the point of it all. Please share.

AT&T bought out my old alarm company and I was required to switch over and change all my hardware. The tech came, ripped off all my old sensors, leaving holes and sticky goo everywhere, and then replaced them plus two HUGE pieces of hardware that were new. My immediate reaction was, Why the heck do I need this HUGE router thing and HUGE additional smoke alarm thing? Then, the alarm is SO loud when you’re just turning it on and off. It wakes my roommate up. The actual emergency alarm should be loud, yes, but there is NO reason the system needs to be so loud when you’re just disarming and arming it. Next, the app is lousy but the online interface is a JOKE. Nothing works, you can’t find anything you need. AT&T has no customer service email. Here are my favorite parts — you have a password and a passcode for this system. The password is actually a NUMBER and the passcode is actually a WORD. You have to remember your passcode to turn off the alarm if it goes off except it’s so confusing what they’re asking for. Your number or your word? Or your online password, which is also different? And then there are NO backup questions to verify your account. No social, no security questions. So the police just get dispatched if you can’t remember your word. It’s ridiculous. I hate it.

This company is unbelievable…first of all, within 2 weeks of installation, my batteries died and the system started beeping incessantly. When I FINALLY got through to customer service, I was told I needed to go buy the batteries at a Best Buy or something, and install them myself.

Second, they don’t tell you at the time of installation that you MUST download the app in order to receive invoices. You receive the 1st invoice by mail, but after that, they are all on the app, which I stumbled on to while waiting on hold for another 2 hours trying to find out why I had received a bill. Then, when I installed the app, I found out that my bill was past due, almost 300 dollars, and had been disconnected for non-payment. By that time, I could not pay through the app.

Third, they openly admitted to me that they have very few people in Customer Svc after 5 or on the weekends…unfortunately, I work full time and go to school full time, so my window for calling them is always after 5 and on the weekend when I am submitted to HOURS of hold time, when I usually have to hang up eventually because I need to be somewhere or I get another call.

Bottom line – my system has worked for about 1-2 months out of the 9 I’ve had it, I have been unable to get help (I’ve spent as long as 3 hours on the phone with them, only to have them disconnect my call and never call back), and now, they want me to pay a $500 early termination fee.

These people are a total scam and completely unscrupulous.

I am a customer with at&t digital life and I can’t complain customer service (retention) was awesome. I lost my job early innyhe year and had to cut back never really wanted yo cancel my system but my mind was made up bec I could Jo longer afford it and called and explain the situation and even tho I had a contract fee with them the never hesitate to help me they help me pay my bills monthly so I was able to keep my system sometimes the app delays but I feel very protected with them. One time I remember living in a apartment there were some men who triedbto break in my house and I had to move when I called customer service they assist me in transferring my service I called a Wednesday and even though I was not moving until Sunday customer service called and check in me everyday to ensure that I was safe. Horrible customer service:

My husband and I were shopping for a home security system. He decided to try ATT Digital Life Service given the manager we spoke with at an ATT store said it wouldn’t be a problem to cancel if it didn’t work to our expectations. After taking an entire day of work to be at home while the technicians completed the installation, my husband attempted to look at the cameras online. The service was down (not working for a couple of hours). This was not acceptable as this is supposed to be a security system. He emailed the sales manager 2 days later to cancel this service. The manager apologized and said he would forward the email to the appropriate personnel. One week later, no response. I called and after spending 45 minutes, 2 phone calls later, I gave up because I was disconnected twice and had to get back to work. The next time I called, I was told I would owe $600 for early termination and $97 for a monthly service (for a product that worked only intermittently). After attempting to speak with a manager, I was finally informed it would be cancelled. That was a few weeks ago. Fast forward to today? I received another email stating they were cancelling my service due to non-payment and sending my information to collections!

I NEVER write bad reviews, but coming from someone who has a +800 credit score, I’ve never expended so much energy with a company trying to cancel services. If I can spare at least one person from this headache and heartache, it was worth writing this review.

ABSOLUTELY horrible system. Customer service is no help. Even the supervisors do not know much about the system. DO NOT BUY!!!! I wish I hadn’t. I invested in extra cameras and am now stuck with a faulty system and permanent alterations to my home. I wish someone had warned me.
