AT&T Digital Life offers wireless home security monitoring and home automation. Their monthly costs and upfront costs are slightly higher than competitors, which is offset with a shorter initial contract length. Customers can control alarms and automations through the Digital Life mobile app.

2-Year Contract

AT&T Digital Life’s minimum contract length of 24 months. Most professional home security companies have a 3- to 5-year contract. The reason AT&T Digital Life can offer a short contract is because they have high up-front equipment fees. Other companies with no minimum contract length will have similarly high up-front fees.

24/7 Monitoring

Like most home security companies, Digital Life professionally monitors each of its home security systems around the clock, which means customers can rest assured that their home and family will be safe in the event of a break-in.

Free Installations

AT&T Digital Life will perform all standard home security system installations for free. This cuts down on upfront costs and makes installing a security system more affordable for customers. Additionally, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with other hardware, so customers who already have home security equipment can make a seamless transition to Digital Life.

  • Equipment. A few reviewers have had issues with AT&T Digital Life’s equipment – specifically the door sensors. Multiple reviews mention having to pay to re-install the equipment when they move, even though the company advertises “Free installations”.
  • Customer Service. Many reviewers are not happy with AT&T Digital Life’s poor customer service. Several mention that they are unable to effectively communicate with customer service agents.
  • Cancellation. As with most home security companies, customers can’t cancel their contract with AT&T Digital Life. Several customers are paying extra fees when the cancel, even when their contract is up.

Expensive Monitoring and Equipment

Customers can choose from three main packages.

  • Smart Security: $549.99 upfront, $39.99 monthly – 24/7 professionally installed and monitoring with home safety features and devices. This package includes a door sensor, motion sensor, window sensor, and an indoor siren.
  • Smart Security and Automation: $549.99 upfront, $54.99 monthly – Includes all features of the Smart Security package plus the Camera Package and Door Package. Feature s include window sensors, a garage door controller, smart door locks, an outdoor camera, and more.
  • Premium Security and Automation: $849.99 upfront, $64.99 monthly – Includes everything from the lower security packages as well as a smart thermostat, light control, and other energy features. A temp & water sensor is also included to detect water leaks and tell you the ambient temperature of the room.

Our Recommendation

With rather expensive packages and an abundance of negative reviews, we recommend you research companies like Frontpoint Security or Protect America, which starts at $19.99 a month for professional installation.

    I had a very difficult time canceling my service I couldn’t communicate effectively with the CSR. They gave me a hard time with the process I explained to them my house had been Sold and I would no longer need thier Services. I called back the next day due to being unsuccessful the first day. I got a different CSR who gave me my mail forwarding address which I did not provide the company with and then stated I could not authenticate my information. After I asked how did you get my temporary resident address when I did not provide it the CSR quickly cancelled my account and did not answer my question. We owned the home for two years my contract with them is up but Iam pretty sure I will get a bill.

    I called to cancel my service and basically was told I could not cancel until my billing cycle on ended on the 20th. Also, I paid before my bill was due abs they did they were not returning my money. Their service is not great and the equipment is faulty! Beware and stay away!!!!

    I will have fulfilled my 2 year contract at the end of this month. I called to cancel monitoring and was told all my equipment will be rendered unusable including the door chimes and my keyless entry. This was not the case when I was with ADT and even though they offered to lower my bill considerably I’m not impressed. It was never the monitoring I signed up for exclusively but the equipment and Installation. I’m disappointed I will have to uninstall my door knob and should have bought my own equipment and paid someone to install. Hard lesson learned.

    Constant issues cameras not recording hard to reset n app. Several battery issues required service tech on several occasions. Door keypad faded and in beyond use customer service very difficult

    We bought a house that had ATT digital life installed in it. We don’t want the service. We hit a bottom because the alarm was beeping. Then it started a alarm. We called the company and they can not call the previous owners to see if they sold the house and to help us shut it off.
    The company is not very good at customer service. They can’t do anything.

    I had the service since for 4 years. The security it provides is good and the user app is great yet the Service tech are not as much. Three times I’ve had maintenance only to be left with sensors that need batteries less than a week later. The last two years I’ve been given a discount every time I called to cancel. I try them again and the same thing. Recently I was told that it was my responsibility to buy the batteries. The other issue is the petty fee for each component on top of the fact that none of the equipment can be installed by the user. it’s a cool system but the people maintaining it need more training.

    Constant network/bug issues. Cannot understand customer service reps. They are just instructed on wha to say….no worries. App configuration is just to much. To technical to set up system and operate. Alarm is not loud enough when sounding.

    Literally the worst. Was not installed correctly after 3 times. Tried to cancel and was not able. I’ll be writing a review on every site possible warning people not to use this. Their Jamaican customer service reps are awful but they have fun accents.

    I just purchased my equipment and installed the service last July and now I am moving; they want to charge me $500 to move my equipment. I have always had AT&T services, I love their wireless plans but this is a ridiculous thing to charge customers to basically double charge customers for their equipment. I would rather pay the cancelation fee and not give Digital Life another dime.

    For a month I have been trying to get a final bill, I was given a different amount every time. now i am told I don’t even have an account at my address. I have never been through such a mess in my life it is a nightmare. How do I settle up no account, I just want a final printed bill since the amount changes all the time.

    Absolutely the worst of everything. Supposed to transfer service to me. Their customer service reps waste your time, disrespect you and lie. They never managed to initiate services in my name and decided to start billing me anyway. They did not have any legal right to do so since they did not get a signed service agreement from me. I’ve been told multiple times that all charges have been removed and the account that was never active in the first place has been “cancelled”. I have wasted countless hours on hold with them for nothing. Their reps truly seem to enjoy enfuriating customers. Do not waste your money, time, or energy on this useless company

    After three years and having a contract that states in no uncertain terms that “AT&T will move equipment at no additional charge with a new two year contract. It’s a lie. They changed the rules and now refuse to honor what was in writing on their web site and my contract. That free reinstall was part of their printed hype and advertising for DigitalLife. They say they know they lied but too bad. They want me to pay $850 for a new system just to move 23 miles. Liars and thieves. I believe they want “out” of the security business. Plus when you call you speak to “far away foreign lands” and you cannot understand a word they are trying to say. Plus they have no real knowledge of the systems and product. STAY AWAY. I WASTED $$$$$.

    Workers stole a front door sensor. We called AT&T digital life to send us a new sensor. After four days that we did not receive the sensor we called AT&T digital life. They told us that we will get it the next day. When we did not receive the sensor the next day, we called Digital life again. We got the same answer that we will received the sensor the next day. For 10 days we had the same answer from Digital Life. After ten days somebody in Digital life told us that the SENSOR WAS NEVER ORDERED. Therefore another sensor “was ordered” and we got an order number. After a week we called again asking about the sensor, nobody knew what we were talking about. We even talked to a ” supervisor “. She said that we will get an email confirming that the sensor was ordered. We NEVER GOT ANY EMAIL.
    Finally on May 3rd we canceled the service. On May 5th, we called to verified the cancellation of the service. The representative didn’t know anything. After we gave him the suppose cancellation # 208039356 he told us that it is going to be cancel on the 9th. When it is suppose to be already canceled, effective the May 3rd.

    I called one month ago and was canceled the services and was told everything was taken care of. Two days ago i got a call stating my service was not able to be canceled and I owed $390.00 dollars and called me a liar. I called back the next day and was told I did not have an account with att security. i am very unhappy and will file a complaint with the BBB.

    I’ve had nothing but problems with my Digital life system. They made promises they never fulfilled including reimbursements for time that my alarm was not working (3 MONTHS) because their technicians had no clue what they were doing. Their “customer service” treats you like trash, and they do not document their conversations with customers properly so they never know what you’ve already discussed with them. It’s impossible to speak with anyone higher than a supervisor, and the supervisors are worthless. They’re nothing but empty promises and broken products.

    I am in the final process of leaving ATT digital life. The customer service well plain and simple SUCKS! Billing is another story they ding you for their system not getting payment update even if it is through electronic bank payment system and verified by your bank that your payment was take out. BE WISE chose something else Simpie safe, FrontPoint, Protect America
