AT&T Digital Life offers wireless home security monitoring and home automation. Their monthly costs and upfront costs are slightly higher than competitors, which is offset with a shorter initial contract length. Customers can control alarms and automations through the Digital Life mobile app.

Pros

2-Year Contract

AT&T Digital Life’s minimum contract length of 24 months. Most professional home security companies have a 3- to 5-year contract. The reason AT&T Digital Life can offer a short contract is because they have high up-front equipment fees. Other companies with no minimum contract length will have similarly high up-front fees.

24/7 Monitoring

Like most home security companies, Digital Life professionally monitors each of its home security systems around the clock, which means customers can rest assured that their home and family will be safe in the event of a break-in.

Free Installations

AT&T Digital Life will perform all standard home security system installations for free. This cuts down on upfront costs and makes installing a security system more affordable for customers. Additionally, AT&T’s home security systems are compatible with other hardware, so customers who already have home security equipment can make a seamless transition to Digital Life.

Cons

Negative AT&T Digital Life Reviews

With nearly 1,000 reviews from real AT&T Digital Life customers, we believe we have an accurate consumer rating of 1 out 10 for the company. Best Home Security Companys never removes reviews in exchange for money with companies. Here is a summary of the biggest AT&T Digital Life complaints people have had in 2019:

  • Equipment. A few reviewers have had issues with AT&T Digital Life’s equipment – specifically the door sensors. Multiple reviews mention having to pay to re-install the equipment when they move, even though the company advertises “Free installations”.
  • Customer Service. Many reviewers are not happy with AT&T Digital Life’s poor customer service. Several mention that they are unable to effectively communicate with customer service agents.
  • Cancellation. As with most home security companies, customers can’t cancel their contract with AT&T Digital Life. Several customers are paying extra fees when the cancel, even when their contract is up.

Expensive Monitoring and Equipment

Customers can choose from three main packages.

  • Smart Security: $549.99 upfront, $39.99 monthly – 24/7 professionally installed and monitoring with home safety features and devices. This package includes a door sensor, motion sensor, window sensor, and an indoor siren.
  • Smart Security and Automation: $549.99 upfront, $54.99 monthly – Includes all features of the Smart Security package plus the Camera Package and Door Package. Feature s include window sensors, a garage door controller, smart door locks, an outdoor camera, and more.
  • Premium Security and Automation: $849.99 upfront, $64.99 monthly – Includes everything from the lower security packages as well as a smart thermostat, light control, and other energy features. A temp & water sensor is also included to detect water leaks and tell you the ambient temperature of the room.

Our Recommendation

With rather expensive packages and an abundance of negative reviews, we recommend you research companies like Frontpoint Security or Protect America, which starts at $19.99 a month for professional installation.

After three years and having a contract that states in no uncertain terms that “AT&T will move equipment at no additional charge with a new two year contract. It’s a lie. They changed the rules and now refuse to honor what was in writing on their web site and my contract. That free reinstall was part of their printed hype and advertising for DigitalLife. They say they know they lied but too bad. They want me to pay $850 for a new system just to move 23 miles. Liars and thieves. I believe they want “out” of the security business. Plus when you call you speak to “far away foreign lands” and you cannot understand a word they are trying to say. Plus they have no real knowledge of the systems and product. STAY AWAY. I WASTED $$$$$.

Workers stole a front door sensor. We called AT&T digital life to send us a new sensor. After four days that we did not receive the sensor we called AT&T digital life. They told us that we will get it the next day. When we did not receive the sensor the next day, we called Digital life again. We got the same answer that we will received the sensor the next day. For 10 days we had the same answer from Digital Life. After ten days somebody in Digital life told us that the SENSOR WAS NEVER ORDERED. Therefore another sensor “was ordered” and we got an order number. After a week we called again asking about the sensor, nobody knew what we were talking about. We even talked to a ” supervisor “. She said that we will get an email confirming that the sensor was ordered. We NEVER GOT ANY EMAIL.
Finally on May 3rd we canceled the service. On May 5th, we called to verified the cancellation of the service. The representative didn’t know anything. After we gave him the suppose cancellation # 208039356 he told us that it is going to be cancel on the 9th. When it is suppose to be already canceled, effective the May 3rd.

I called one month ago and was canceled the services and was told everything was taken care of. Two days ago i got a call stating my service was not able to be canceled and I owed $390.00 dollars and called me a liar. I called back the next day and was told I did not have an account with att security. i am very unhappy and will file a complaint with the BBB.

I’ve had nothing but problems with my Digital life system. They made promises they never fulfilled including reimbursements for time that my alarm was not working (3 MONTHS) because their technicians had no clue what they were doing. Their “customer service” treats you like trash, and they do not document their conversations with customers properly so they never know what you’ve already discussed with them. It’s impossible to speak with anyone higher than a supervisor, and the supervisors are worthless. They’re nothing but empty promises and broken products.

Online service makes simple operations like changing a battery frustrating and time consuming. Hard to get service and using the chat feature is seldom better. The website is hard to find. When I was actually able to access someone to help, they were thorough and helpful but it was hard to access someone. Support hours very limited – no evenings or weekends. Local ATT store (which sold me the system) cannot/will not assist.

When I called to cancel, I was offered a 50% discount on monthly fee and a free digital door lock. By that time I had activated a replacement service. When I asked to have a technician remove the equipment I was told it was my problem as I owned the equipment. Service was shut off immediately but they are still billing me.

I’ve had the worst experience with Digital Life so sickening all the promises and nothing gets done. From all my problems with my bill I wanted to cancel the alarm system so they agreed to waive all my fees and charge me 19.99 a month for life they said after taxes that will be my price. For almost a year I paid 24.05 and I just let it be, now it went up to 29.48 and I called to cancel and they are promising more of what they don’t do. I chose to cancel it and I went 2 or 3 days pass the billing cycle so they said they don’t do partial months or payments so they are charging me $59 and change lol. If I stay with them they will waive all the fees but because I want to cancel they are trying to charge me 2 months when I only went over 2 or 3 days on the billing cycle. Unbelievable, its the principle more then anything. Stop lying to keep customers and cheating people out their hard earn money. Its alright though you burn me for the last time and hopefully this review helps someone from getting burned too.

We had AT&T for over two years during that time we had multiple issues with our service every time we would call they told us we had to fix it personally. Then when we got frustrated enough with their service and their lack of customer service we called to cancel we spent over 40 minutes on the phone being transferred to multiple departments the first time they continue to tell us all the specials they could give us we declined many times we were told it was canceled and We did not have another bill. In the mail a week later came a bill for a full month of service after another 35 minute phone calls and multiple transfers we were told that our cancellation was completed but a date for the future was set as the cancellation date and that they could change our cancellation for the current day But we would be responsible for prorated charges. In a business as large as this customer service should be a priority however over $20 they have not only lost a customer for life but I will make sure to tell all of my clients and friends how poor their customer service and quality of service is

I am a retiree of Bellsouth now ATT and thought I would remain loyal, Idon’t recommend Digital Life because I had a few alarms doing a 4 year period and never got a call or a policeman to show up, The cancellation policy sucks. They want you to pay a full month if you cancei lwithin the billing cycle. ::
On March 11, 2019 I had ADT come out and install equipment. of course when he took the Digital Life equipment off it went into alarm mode. I never got a call. So on Monday the 11th, I called and cancelled Digilal Life. Today I get a call saying I owe 39.99. mention my contract says so. #1 after all this time I should not have a contract. 2. I cancelled 2 days after billing closed. After going round and round finally got a supv. to reduce charge to $20.00

Like most customer service in ATT, they are located in another country and are like robots reading a log. I would never use them again.

Important door sensors crapped out. Was told they would arrive 3-5 business days (by Friday). Called to follow up. Was told on back-order. Waited 25 minutes for supervisor. Then asked AGAIN for verification including SSN. I hung up. Called on weekday hoping to get someone in US – no such luck. Waited 30 minutes for supervisor. Hung up. Called again – was told order cancelled because it was on back-order. Though provided UPS tracking number but still cancelled. TRYING to find the local office that dispatched for new service. Have appointment that hopefully tech has what I need. I’ll be cancelling my service if they don’t have sensor. In meantime, 2 important doors of 4 are off-line & un-protected. Why should I pay for service?

Digital Life is not worth the money or effort. My experience with them has been an ongoing headache. I only signed up for one years service with them however when I called them to let them know I would not be renewing my contract they told me I owe for another year and to break the contract would be $356. I asked to get a copy of the 2 year contract they say I signed and 2 supervisors I spoke with on different occasions couldn’t provide me with my contract. They gave a bogus excuse of emailing it to me within 24 hrs and both times it never happened. The supervisors said they don’t directly have access to the contract that’s why they’d have someone email it to me. Digital life is so unprofessional and only after customer money and not customer satisfaction. I would never in my lifetime recommend any of the AT&T services to anyone.

Absolutely worst system. Hasn’t worked for months and customer service will only “troubleshoot” over the phone and refuses to send out a technician. By “troubleshoot” I mean running from sensor to sensor with a screwdriver opening them up, changing batteries, returning sensors, installing new sensors, all by yourself. Nothing works. Continue to get error messages. Customer service says” well you can bypass that part of the system. Or so should I bypass part of my bill too? They trap you with zero support. Worst ever system and company!

I have had Digital Life in Memphis TN for 2+ years. Never had problems except that the temp controller was not compatible with my system and siren went off line a couple of times. Never had false alarm. All remote features work perfectly. Have to change door batteries annually. Love being able to see video from my camera on my phone and can send that video by text message or email, can turn lights on/off, give contractors access remotely or with guest code, can open/close garage door and unlock/lock front door with phone app or keypad. Feel very safe with this quality service.

I I’m wanting to transfer my att home security system.. because .. obviously I want to keep it and NOT be charged fees…. they make you buy new equipment when you move and outright at once instead of monthly service payment. I never payed $800 at once for new service when I got this. And they want me to pay $800 to transfer. And if I don’t transfer I have to cancel and there’s another free for that!!!!

    Beyond frustrated

And I just searched they’re contract nowhere does it say anything about the $800s

They acknowledged that the keypad wasn’t working but wouldn’t cancel. I was getting a call every time there was a noise or door opened. Fine when I could answer the phone but when I was at work the police were dispatched. Was about to get fined by the police. Finally took the battery out. Still have to wait 2-3 business days to cancel even though they knew it wasn’t working.
They kept offering to troubleshoot with the app but it was on the phone of a dead person and still there is no way to cancel immediately.
    Don’t get this service.

One of the worst customer service I have ever seen. This company sucks!!! I’ve dealing with a simple issue as to replace a door sensor since December 2018; it is now March 2019, and still dealing with the issue, on top that they want to charge me $39,95 for an error they committed.
Customer service representative don’t seem to have enough knowledge to resolve simple issues, and went you request a supervisor, or someone that can be a decision-maker, they are reluctant to transfer you.
Do not commit the same mistake I committed switching to AT&T Digital Life alarm system. I walked away from Directv for the same reason, and already started the process of finding a new provider for my alarm.

I was a digital life customer for 4 years and have had their sevice in 3 different states. I have never had an issue until now. I wanted to move my service to didnt home, again I have done this 3 times prior, and I was told it would cost me $550. When I asked why since I have never paid before I was told that terms have changed and there is no way around it. I asked for my contract to be looked at since i still had a year on it to see if I ever signed stating there was a fee. I was told that, that could not be done. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was told no. After expressing my frustrations with the representative that was extremely rude and unprofessional, she informed me I w li old get a call back that day from a supervisor. Of cour6i did not. I called back the next day to cancel my service and chose that option, and was transferred due to the representative not being able to complete my request. Once transferred, the representative told me there is no other choice but to pay the $550 and I could not speak to a supervisor. I canceled my service and informed her that I would never recommend to anyone and her response was ok goodbye. Never once did I get a supervisor or a representative that was interested in helping me.
