Pros

Multiple Equipment Packages

Moni Smart Security offers great smart home technology and equipment for both home security and home automation. There are three equipment plans for customers to choose from Basic, HomeTouch, and HomeTouch Premier. Each of the three plans includes basic system components, such as alarm monitoring services, a control panel, motion sensors, window sensors, and door sensors. The two higher plans provide extra features such as security cameras, remote system control, and text alerts. Other smart home technologies and alarm monitoring equipment, such as video doorbell security cameras, are also available. A mobile app for iPhone and Android users that acts as a remote control panel with many features. Users can access their Skybell HD camera and utilize the two-way voice feature. With multiple plans available to them, customers have the ability to find an option that best meets their home security needs and budget.

Low Upfront Costs

Moni Smart Security will provide its customers with free equipment and installation (minus a few exceptions), keeping upfront costs low and affordable. However, there are some fees to be aware of—more on those below.

False Alarm Protection

False alarms aren’t incredibly common, but they do happen. Moni Smart Security offers a number of protection features to help customers in the event of a false alarm. For example, the company will cover up to two false alarms each year. Additionally, Moni Smart Security will reimburse customers up to $50 for each false alarm. Few home security companies offer any type of false alarm protection, making Moni Smart Security unique in this regard.

Flexible Moving Options

Moni Smart Security offers free moving services to customers who have had a security system for at least a year and are up to date on their monthly payments. This offer comes with the option to extend the terms of the contract at the current rate for up to 24 months. If the customer is not interested in moving the system to their new home, Moni Smart Security will allow them to transfer the contract to their homebuyer or pay off the remaining balance.

Cons

Long-Term Contracts

All Moni Smart Security plans require that customers sign into a binding three to five-year contract for alarm monitoring services. While three years is the average contract length in the home security industry, there are some companies that offer a shorter contract length or do not require customers to sign an annual contract at all.

Higher Monthly Rates and Activation Fees

Although Moni Smart Security offers free equipment and installations, the company’s monthly alarm monitoring rates are quite a bit higher than those of other top-rated security system providers. For example, Moni Smart Security monitoring service prices start at $34.95 per month and only go up from there. In addition to steep monthly rates, the company also charges a sizable activation fee, which, depending on the package, can set customers back up to $149. Customer satisfaction reviews have suffered as a result.

Possible Rate Increases

The monthly rates advertised by Moni Smart Security are based on a 36 to 60-month monitoring agreement. However, actual rates could increase after 12 months, leaving customers locked into a contract and paying a higher rate than they were expecting.

Our Recommendation

Moni Smart Security has over two decades of experience in the home security industry. The company offers multiple equipment packages, flexible moving options, and false alarm protection. Moni Smart Security advertises free equipment and installations, but charges steep activation fees and requires its customers to sign into lengthy contracts with high monthly monitoring rates. Consumers who are considering Moni Smart Security should also be aware that the company reserves the right to increase rates after the first 12 months. See all Moni Smart Security reviews below.

I have been using Moni/Monitronics/Brinks for security for around 6 years. I have been happy with the service with the exception of one instance. I had a fire in my home and the rebuild was 8 months. Because I was under contract, they required me to pay for 8 months of service I was not able to use. They would not suspend my account and the rental I was staying in would not allow a hard wired alarm, so transferring service was not an option. Aside from this incredibly large waste of money that felt very unfair, I have always been happy with the service. On a few occasions, we have had sensors that would no longer stick and they sent us replacements quickly with no additional fees. I recently moved and the transition process was extremely easy. I negotiated my rate down and they upgraded my equipment for free as well as agreed to install a fire monitoring alarm and doorbell camera at no charge. I feel like this made up for the 8 months I had to pay, so it has somewhat evened out in my eyes. The customer service folks are always professional and helpful and I have never had to wait extended periods of time when I call. Over all, I am happy with them as a company and intend to keep using the.

Customer service is terrible. They promised to solve my problem as soon as possible but they took three days to get only part of the problem fixed. The wait times when I call are outrageously long and the agents constantly transfer me from one representative to another. Their bad customer service drives away customers.

Started service on 2 year contract in 2012. They called in Jan 2018 for insurance verification and I cancelled the service. The transmitter which call the sheriff’s department was removed by the servicing Company in March 2018. I called to see why they were still charging my checking account in April 2018. I apparently didn’t complete the cancel to their satisfaction and I hopefully got it cancelled correctly in May 2018. They charged me $45.56 on 6/05/18. Previously it had been $58.85 so hopefully I finally got it cancelled. I will never do business with them again. I feel like they treated me very badly and that they are sham artists. I recommend you find a cheaper alternative to Mini.

Charged for service for the month after I moved. When calling to cancel I was assured that I had received last billing.

Tried calling to rectify and was on hold for one hour and ten minutes after which I was disconnected.

Company has changed hands 3 times in just as many years.

WATCH OUT! These guys will verbally tell you things about your contract that aren’t true, to get you to sign. Then, when you don’t read the 33 page contract, you discover they have scammed you into signing a long-term contract.

Their correspondence department is UNRESPONSIVE and will NOT do their customers justice.

    RUN AWAY!

By far the worse security system ever. Customer care sucks. I tried to cancel my account 3 times when my contract was up and they would just put me on hold after to speaking with someone. Then never get back on the phone. I spent over three hours trying to cancel this service and still got questioned by an account mgr. I will never ever ever again or recommend anyone for this security service. No discounts were ever offered even after my contract was up. I had old equipment and never got new equipment. My billing went from 42.79 to 50.44 without my knowledge. Then the account mgr tried to drop it to 40.18 when I tried to cancel my service. Really what a sucky company.

Canceled inAugust 10 months ago still receiving monthly bills called 3 times since they always have an excuse why it’s not cancelled offered to pay for the equipment their answer is remainder of the lease which is almost 3 years totaling over $1200 for $300 worth of equipment. Do not sign with these people they’re not worth the aggravation there are good honest companies to choose from this company is not one of them I’m waiting a court date now to fight this.

My mother’s system was down for over a month. The company said they don’t always call when the alarm system isn’t working, they don’t have the phone bandwidth to call people when their security is down.

They make ppl sign a contract promising to call a line that is often 1-2 hours wait to test their security system every month. When I called that #, I waited over an hour and it hung up on me, But if that call isn’t made, the customer themselves is legally responsible for anything that happens to their home. Yes, some other companies offer similar deals, just know this is NOT GOOD for the elderly.

Today I called Moni with the intent to cancel my service. I had no problems with the service itself, just felt like I didn’t need it anymore.
After being connected to a representative (Nezi) I not only didn’t cancel my service, but actually extended my service agreement! Moni has lots of options and services that I didn’t know about. It’s a good company with excellent, friendly customer service. That goes a long way with me. People seem to only take the time to write a review when it’s a negative one. Nezi was great and the phone call was so helpful and pleasant. Thank you Nezi! ?

Get ready for the runaround when you go to cancel your service. Can only be done by an “Account Manager” who works bankers hours. Nobody working after hours has the ability to cancel an account. It’s absurd! Give me a break. Not sure if I would go with them again considering this runaround they are giving us. Because of the runaround with canceling service, I could not cancel the service even after someone else had taken possession of the home. Don’t waste your time with them.

We were told there was no extra fee to relocate our service. When the time to move arrived, we informed the service provider of our moving date and were not given any instructions. Upon arrival at the new location, we were told that we were “supposed” to have moved with the equipment to the new location. SOmething that was not disclosed. Then they had a tech person go to the location to remove the cameras but left the sensors. On the day the alarm was to be installed, we were notified that because the MONI representative had neglected to remove the sensors from our previous home, we would have to pay EXTRA for sensors. Not our fault, but MONI charged us the extra fees. Very unfair business practices by MONI.WILL NOT BE USING THIS COMPANY AGAIN EVER!!! NEITHER WILL ANY OF MY KITH AND KIN. We were charged close to $500.00 to relocate the system, YET we were told that relocation would cost us ZERO Dollars.

I have made three phone calls to cancel service as I moved to another town. They keep telling me I have not responded to their e-mails, requiring my signature to cancel. I searched through my whole e-mail system (spam, trash, updates, etc.) and have not received an e-mail from them since 2017. I have lived in a different city now for 2 months and they continue to insist I owe them and until I cancel via my signature in this phantom e-mail, they will continue to provide service to the people who purchased my home and continue to bill me. I have verified my e-mail. I had no problems before but am extremely frustrated and angry with them now. Now they want me to pay another 55.00 for something I am not receiving. Now I have had this service for approximately 8 yrs total so I consider this ridiculous and I have never been late on my payments. Absolutely not fair!!!! I am 74 yrs old and disabled. This is infuriating.

I have had a system for about 50 days or so, since I got system I have had very bad connection because of bad cell service in the area, I was told about an antenna to amplify signal, well first it has taken to long to get and when they do get it is the wrong one, still waiting. Now I am paying for a service I am not getting. I am paying for a monitoring service that don’t work all the time, not nice. 400 installation fee and 45 monitoring for nothing. Not happy at all as of right now I would not recommend to anyone based on slow it’s been to get equipment, getting charged for a service I am not been provided 100%, installer has been very very nice and helpful, the sale person has not even called to see how happy I am about what’s going on. 3 people have asked me about system and company and when I have tried to demonstrate how it works they are disappointed when they see it does not work as promised. That’s 3 contracts you lost because of my problems. Not happy at all right now.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!
This place rips off elderly people. My mother had this alarm company. They raised her rates twice while she was under contract. When she called to express dismay over the increase (in August) they reduced her bill $2.00 but added 18 months to her contract without my mother understanding this because she NEVER would have added 18 months. In December, my mother had a reverse mortgage and ended up moving in with my brother as she could no longer afford to take care of her home. When she called to cancel her service they would not let her out of the original contract or the 18 months more. She ended up having to put $1400.00 on a credit card to get out from under the contract. My cable company can only charge me $20.00 x # of months left. How can this company rip off an 80 year old woman on a fixed income like this.

I used moni for several years but it was very difficult to discontinue service. I first cancelled my service in February 2018, I cancelled again in March 2018, and again in April 2018, but each time I kept receiving bills for service. Even after I paid my final bill in March 2018 I continued to be billed for another 2 months of service and Moni refuses to wipe out the current “final” amount I owe them. I will never use Moni again.

Was notified on a Wednesday that my system was not talking to their system and said they would have to send out a tech to fix. Did not hear back from them so called them on Friday and was told they could not get a tech out for a week. My wife and I are leaving for a 3 day trip and we do not like knowing our home will be unprotected during that time. I just feel that a security company should have quick service when problems arise disabling the system.
They also have a $50 charge for sending a tech out even though its their problem. After complaining they will waive the $50 charge and only charge me $10 and waive one month of charges but my home still will remain unprotected for a week due to their slow response.
    A VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!

The alarm has showed a fire upstairs for over 6 months and no one has even called or came out. Canceled service bc it’s no longer under contract. They call night and day wanting money for service canceled over 3 months ago. Then they called to say a battery was low… yet never called about a house fire! Worse security service ever! Other family members had it as well. I was there and the alarm went off with house fire. I waited 45 minutes no one called. I called them. They blamed us and said “ your supposed to call us once a month so we can do a security check” .
