Pros

Multiple Equipment Packages

Moni Smart Security offers great smart home technology and equipment for both home security and home automation.

There are three equipment plans for customers to choose from Basic, HomeTouch, and HomeTouch Premier. Each of the three plans includes basic system components, such as alarm monitoring services, a control panel, motion sensors, window sensors, and door sensors.

The two higher plans provide extra features such as security cameras, remote system control, and text alerts. Other smart home technologies and alarm monitoring equipment, such as video doorbell security cameras, are also available. A mobile app for iPhone and Android users that acts as a remote control panel with many features. Users can access their Skybell HD camera and utilize the two-way voice feature.

With multiple plans available to them, customers have the ability to find an option that best meets their home security needs and budget.

Low Upfront Costs

Moni Smart Security will provide its customers with free equipment and installation (minus a few exceptions), keeping upfront costs low and affordable. However, there are some fees to be aware of-more on those below.

False Alarm Protection

False alarms aren't incredibly common, but they do happen. Moni Smart Security offers a number of protection features to help customers in the event of a false alarm. For example, the company will cover up to two false alarms each year.

Additionally, Moni Smart Security will reimburse customers up to $50 for each false alarm. Few home security companies offer any type of false alarm protection, making Moni Smart Security unique in this regard.

Flexible Moving Options

Moni Smart Security offers free moving services to customers who have had a security system for at least a year and are up to date on their monthly payments. This offer comes with the option to extend the terms of the contract at the current rate for up to 24 months.

If the customer is not interested in moving the system to their new home, Moni Smart Security will allow them to transfer the contract to their homebuyer or pay off the remaining balance.

Cons

Long-Term Contracts

All Moni Smart Security plans require that customers sign into a binding three to five-year contract for alarm monitoring services. While three years is the average contract length in the home security industry, there are some companies that offer a shorter contract length or do not require customers to sign an annual contract at all.

Higher Monthly Rates and Activation Fees

Although Moni Smart Security offers free equipment and installations, the company's monthly alarm monitoring rates are quite a bit higher than those of other top-rated security system providers.

For example, Moni Smart Security monitoring service prices start at $34.95 per month and only go up from there. In addition to steep monthly rates, the company also charges a sizable activation fee, which, depending on the package, can set customers back up to $149. Customer satisfaction reviews have suffered as a result.

Possible Rate Increases

The monthly rates advertised by Moni Smart Security are based on a 36 to 60-month monitoring agreement. However, actual rates could increase after 12 months, leaving customers locked into a contract and paying a higher rate than they were expecting.

Our Recommendation

Moni Smart Security has over two decades of experience in the home security industry. The company offers multiple equipment packages, flexible moving options, and false alarm protection.

Moni Smart Security advertises free equipment and installations, but charges steep activation fees and requires its customers to sign into lengthy contracts with high monthly monitoring rates. Consumers who are considering Moni Smart Security should also be aware that the company reserves the right to increase rates after the first 12 months. See all Moni Smart Security reviews below.

I have been on the phone for hours talking to one of your support techs. I have done everything she told me to, twice. System still is malfunctioning. Changing batteries, in system, key fobs, unplugging alarm box from 120 volt outlet (unscrewing to remove), her telling me that is showing up on my keyboard isn't there! I have no such numbers on y system. I'm tired of being your service tech, tired of this half ass alarm service! I ask for service man, she says can't get here tomorrow. I have many expensive items in this house, and need to leave town Friday for a family emergency! Its hard for Me to understand why a service tech can stop by here tomorrow, probably for 5-10 minutes and get my system on line before I have to leave Friday morning. Sorry, but enough is enough.

This Company should not be allowed to do Business period. My system never worked. My wires were burning after the door bell was installed. Camera set up was pathetic. I was told my wi fi to slow. After countless attempts to get the system removed. I packed it up and sent it back. I now have a Company HD Hillcrest Davidson trying to collect $3,645.30 a year later. The Skyline Mgmt. clearly avoided my phone calls and letters exactly for this purpose. Fraudsters. I am ready and filing complaints with every government agency out there. Beware! You have been warned. Do Not sign anything.

I wish I had seen this site before I agreed to sign a 3 year contract. My alarm went off while I was at work and I received a phone alert so I called the number. The employee on the other end said she 'wasn't sure' if my alarm was actually going off and 'wasn't sure' if the system had alerted the police. When I pressed her for details, she had none and was very rude. By the time I found coverage for work (I"m a teacher) and drove home, the alarm had been sounding off for almost 4 hours. I spent the better part of the next two days trying to get answers from their company, being kicked from one employee to another. They had no answers and could not tell me why the police were never called, could not tell me which zone had set off the alarm. Furthermore, I found out that if they had deemed the alarm 'false' they had the ability to deactivate it from their end, which they did not. Finally, at the end of 2 days, an employee told me I could cancel and be released from my contract, which I did. A few months later, the remainder of the contract went to collection where I was forced to pay the balance.

I was out of town in June, the 28th and got two false alarms and the police were called even after the had my neighbor on the phone telling them nothing was wrong. The customer service person on Brinks hung up on my neighbor. Since June 28th I have had to wait for a service tech to come out...the appt. 8.2. Really..only 1 tech in my area. NOT GOOD. Had them turn off motion detectors so nothing would happen and I am paying for something now I am not getting. yes since Brinks took over, this company is not the same. I was given a good offer to upgrade, my sister passed away and I was out of the state for awhile. When I went to check on the offer again, he said, sorry you had to do that in a month. I told him my sister passedaway and he didn't care. Offer no longer good. Now I am still waiting for appt. This is so bad. I have been a customer since the late 90's and nothing has happened to make me a happier customer..And if I upgrade, they will make me do a new CONTRACT AFTER 20 YEARS. REALLY?????? May have to check w/CPI, great co in the Charlotte area.

The customer service with this company is ridiculous. If you are behind on a payment you get treated very poorly, in fact I was ridiculed for being late when i was going through hard times. An account manager in Dallas named Ana was extremely rude to me, laughing at me, refused to transfer me or to tell me her full name or id number. After the call I went on to talk to someone else about canceling my service and just doing the payoff since i still had 13 months of service, they informed me it would be in the thousands to cancel. This is the same company that still charged me a monthly fee when Hurricane Harvey destroyed my house and it wasn't even livable. And when I moved back into my house my system was destroyed and they wanted me to pay to get a new one. I refused to pay for a new system that should be covered by them in the first place since I pay so much monthly already. Moni/Brinks or whatever other name they decide to come up with will never get another dime from me or anyone else I know after my experience with them. P.S: this company has changed names 3 or 4 times since Ive been a customer since 2015. Seems pretty shady to me.

A guy was advertising in the neighborhood (a few of our neighbors actually have Moni as well), he seemed genuine and we liked the idea of having cameras set up around the house. The first half year-ish went seemingly well. No real issues. In June, I was out of town when a neighbor called me around 2 am saying my dogs were out in the front yard, barking, and the front door was wide open. I called our dog sitter to see what was going on. Long story short, when I went to check my doorbell camera to possibly see what happened there were no recordings... for weeks. In a panic, I called Moni/Brinks whatever you want to call them, and they told me i was over my recording limit for the month (?!). No one had ever discussed that with me. And then I was told if I wanted to see what happened I would have to get the cops to subpoena the recording. Well, with no real basis for wanting the cops to get involved (nothing was stolen) I still to this day have no idea what happened that night. A bit unsettling. A couple months later, my husband and I's cars were broken into in direct view of the driveway camera. I can't say it's directly correlated because unfortunately no one was able to catch the people doing it in the neighborhood, however, the camera caught my husband and I coming home from dinner that same night right before the break-in and caught us walking out to the driveway the next morning. Today, I called Moni/Brinks to discuss a couple of issues we were having. 1) our garage camera stopped recording.. for weeks. Technical Support was more than happy to help me reset it. Great, right? Well step 2) our doorbell chime stopped working. So tech support says "grab your screwdriver" and I unscrew the doorbell off the wall..... screw it back on..... still nothing. So the next recommendation would be to get someone out here to take a look at the doorbell. It'll only cost about $85 to come out (i believe) and then by the hour (equally expensive), as there is no warranty on the cameras. Which, is not what was told to me before I got the system. When I tried to call the guy who set up my system, interestingly enough, his phone number does not work. Seeing as they enjoy screwing their customers, I will not be having some one come out and fix it. Lord knows, they would probably take their lunch break at my expense. I don't think I'll cancel, after reading how much they want for cancellation, but I think i'll uninstall everything and just go get my own security system from best buy. I think I could do a better job.

This is the WORST excuse for a security business I have ever seen. We bought a house with that system and it has been nothing but problems from the start. Equipment not functioning correctly, can’t get repair out for weeks and then it still doesn’t work. Have tried to cancel this service for months and they say we are signed up for 3 years and will have to pay off the contract. I think it’s the Attorney Generals who will hear about it next.

This is the absolute worst company I've ever dealt with in my life. With every phone call, they somehow extend my contract, but refuse to pull the tapes to prove that I agreed to the supposed extensions. I recently moved and was told that I was required to continue with their service for another 27 months due to my extending my contract last year (which never happened). However, I was assured that they'd set up service at the new address in order for me to "fulfill the terms of my [nonexistent] agreed up on contract". After 5 phone calls to dispute, I finally agreed to just transfer service to the new address (despite the new home having a very expensive closed circuit system that came with the house). Three days after the tech came out to hook up all of my old equipment at the new house, I received a letter stating "per our discussion, your contract has been extended by 33 months". When I called to dispute this new extension and ask how in the world I was now tied into FIVE YEARS - the original 27+additional 33!? I was informed that, "because they came out to install the equipment and connect to their network" (which I was required to pay for, by the way), that was a de facto "agreement to extend the contract and [they] didn't have to prove it". When, in frustration, I exclaimed, "this is insane, so I'm basically trapped by your company, you don't have to prove it and there's nothing I can do?! How is this possible?!" I was also told that I "indeed have choices. You don't have to pay for the continued service, we'll just send to collections. So, you see, you do have options." DO NOT EVER, EVER USE MONI/BRINKS.

Failed to give out all information at the time of purchase. Was told that my bill would be waived due to receiving military orders and having to move. I was staying in a hotel and was not using the system, but was still charged. Once I found a home, I was told that I'd have to pay a fee of $300 to keep my current contract or pay $149 and extend my contract for 7 more months or I could cancel and that would be around $2000 - $3000. Every time I call, I'm on hold for long periods of time. One time I called, I was on the phone with their company for almost 2 hours to resolve one issue.

After being a loyal customer for over four years, I was the unfortunate recipient of a $430 plus final payment charge. Their service left much to be desired as they were quite slow to respond and failed to call myself (the primary) on the account when the fire alarm or other issues caused an alarm engagement. I was surprised several times when the fire truck arrived. As far as the charge, I had signed a contract that stated I must keep the account engaged for five years otherwise I would need to pay the remaining months which frankly is ridiculous. Most companies will have a small monthly fee for those remaining in a contract rather than the entire amount. I was not informed that this was in fact the case until the monthly amount was withdrawn again for the month after I had moved even though I had called several times trying to make sure there were no issues with my cancellation. I say RUN do not use this company regardless of what they call themselves Moni or BRINKS.

If you sell the house and new home owner does not want the system you will pay a pretty penny to cancel service. So if you are a senior or some one whos health is not the best this system and contract will eat up your saving to get out of the contract. Nursing homes does not need a unit to follow you and if you move with your kids they do not want your system you are still paying. Veterans the same goes for you . So please consider your health when signing a contract unless you have over a thousands to buy out contract you will have a new debt. And for some reason Brink is now our provider I did not sign a contract with them so them moral of this story they can sell your contract with no notice or option to cancel. I have been using Moni/Monitronics/Brinks for security for around 6 years. I have been happy with the service with the exception of one instance. I had a fire in my home and the rebuild was 8 months. Because I was under contract, they required me to pay for 8 months of service I was not able to use. They would not suspend my account and the rental I was staying in would not allow a hard wired alarm, so transferring service was not an option. Aside from this incredibly large waste of money that felt very unfair, I have always been happy with the service. On a few occasions, we have had sensors that would no longer stick and they sent us replacements quickly with no additional fees. I recently moved and the transition process was extremely easy. I negotiated my rate down and they upgraded my equipment for free as well as agreed to install a fire monitoring alarm and doorbell camera at no charge. I feel like this made up for the 8 months I had to pay, so it has somewhat evened out in my eyes. The customer service folks are always professional and helpful and I have never had to wait extended periods of time when I call. Over all, I am happy with them as a company and intend to keep using the.

I first cancelled my service in February 2018, I cancelled again in March 2018, and again in April 2018, but each time I kept receiving bills for service. Even after I paid my final bill in March 2018 I continued to be billed for another 2 months of service and Moni refuses to wipe out the current "final" amount I owe them. I will never use Moni again.

Was notified on a Wednesday that my system was not talking to their system and said they would have to send out a tech to fix. Did not hear back from them so called them on Friday and was told they could not get a tech out for a week. My wife and I are leaving for a 3 day trip and we do not like knowing our home will be unprotected during that time. I just feel that a security company should have quick service when problems arise disabling the system. They also have a $50 charge for sending a tech out even though its their problem. After complaining they will waive the $50 charge and only charge me $10 and waive one month of charges but my home still will remain unprotected for a week due to their slow response. A VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!
