  • Low monthly monitoring cost, high upfront fees: Monitoring plans are from $14.99/month to $24.99/month. The more expensive plan is called the ‘Interactive’ plan which gives you SMS/email alerts, secret alerts, and the ability to arm & disarm remotely. You pay for your equipment upfront which typically ranges between $200 and $500+.
  • No long-term contracts: Simplisafe does not require its customers to sign into lengthy contracts. Instead their contracts are month-to-month and you are paying for your equipment up front.
  • Equipment: all standard types of home security equipment is available and customized based on your needs. From window sensors and motion sensors, to security cameras and smoke detectors. Simplisafe also has an app that allows you to manage your system remotely. The one downside with their equipment is that it’s a DIY installation. This is a downside for many who seek to have a system installed for them professionally. The equipment you purchase has a 3-year warranty and a 60-day money-back guarantee.
  • Simplisafe is a really good home security option for renters: the system is wireless and portable, making it perfect for renting situations.
  • Simplisafe and hackers: in years past Simplisafe has had issues with their hardware getting hacked as reported by Forbes back in February 2016.

    We were broke into with the newest version of simplisafe, and the burglars must have watched the video on Youtube on how to smash the base station within the delay period before the system can call the operators, and we got cleaned out. The burglar took a magic marker and wrote on the living room wall: BUY A REAL ALARM NEXT TIME. I have a photo of it.     The quality of the equipment is terrible and you can't rely on it - it loses periodically connection to the dispatcher center or keypad loses connection to the base. Also, my keychain remote stopped working - and I have it for just about 18 months.. When calling cust support you need to be at home and then you'll spent half an hour doing various testing and resettings. It starts working again but then after a while the same issues come back. Last time when I tried to call the customer support, i spent over 15 minutes waiting to get connected and listening the music and then just hang up. Sick and tired of this, and looking for another and better company, just wasted about $400 on the equipment. Don't wast your money.Read More

    Have had the SS2 system for almost 5 years and it has worked flawlessly for us. I run a test on the system once and await and very thing always checks out OK. It works so good I ordered the new SS3 system. Now I will say one thing bad and that is their customer service. It is hit and miss. I have not needed to use customer service other then a couple of times, one time good the other time not so good. Over all the system has done what is was designed to do. Secure our home..

    I am using SimpliSafe for three years in two commercial properties and my home. I have no complaints.

    Good fast response to alarms and the equipment has held up good inside and outside of my buildings without any issues.

    Horrible customer service. We had three fake allarms, and the customer service NEVER called, so, for three times in six month the police was knocking our door. After the second arrival, we got a warning letter from the police, letting us know that we are gonna pay a fee if they will come back to a fake alarm. We tried to tald to a supervisor, we waited in line for more than two hours and we hang up, because nobody answered.Today they came for the third time. Again a fake alarm, and customer service never called, though thwy have three phone numbers. Now We tey to talk to a superviser, we are waiting already for more than an hour on the phone, to talk to a supervisor and nobody answer. We are good to pay a police fee, because their sloppy job.

    If you are not in a Verizon or TMobile area do not waste your money on this system period. They have terrible customer service and are quick to send you the hard wired fix and that works of course but the app does not connect via the hard wired solution.

    I really wanted to use this system. We bought the SimpliSafe system 6 months ago because it was on sale but we hadn’t finished our remodel yet and was not ready to install, I’m now ready to install but only to find that the sensors are so big (3″ L x 2.25″ H x 1.5″ W) that will not fit in the window area they hit the blinds or don’t fit at all so I went to their site to see what options I have and I see now that they have a new system that has very small sensors so call them to see if I get the new sensors. I talked a customers service person and she told me that there is nothing they can do and I would have to buy a whole new system as the new sensors are not compatible, I asked if I could return it for credit (Still New In The Box) as it is new and I never opened anything but one sensor and would buy the new system, still no it been over 60 days no returns. I also talked to 2 mangers they told me the same thing, this is just pour customer service all I wanted was a system I could use and I would start sending them $14.99 a month but now I’m going sell this on ebay and go with another company. If this is how SimpilSafe wants to start a relationship with a new customer it’s a BAD start. How are things going to be down road, what I’m I going run into, sorry just not going with SimpilSafe and can’t recommend them to anyone, this is their loss not mine, just stay away.

    Have had two false smoke detector alarms. The home is a a lake house and we live two hours away. Neighbors have been asked to check out the house and found nothing. Customer service response is a shoulder shrug and nothing more. I HAVE ZERO CONFIDENCE ON THIS SYSTEM AND DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. STAY AWAY!! Cheapis not always the best alternative. AGAIN, STAY AWAY!!!!

    I ordered a system from them and it never showed up. After calling twice one week apart, they assured me that the system would ship out immediately. Nothing showed up after ten days. Checking the order history, it was obvious that it had not shipped, despite them charging my card the day that I oredered it. After another 1/2 hour wait on the phone, I got through and canceled my order.

    It has been about 3 months now and so far Reliable Alarm System.

    My issue is No Link to Base Station frequently!

    Check your Base Station every day.

    Test Siren once a week.

    Paid over $1700 for system components, plus monthly monitoring because of all the reviews and publicuty. Have not even been able to install all parts and components because of repeated ststem failures. Sensors repeatedly loose contact or mis-read to base station. Cameras do not stay in position, and cannot be tightened to stay in place. End up looking at floor more than anything else. Customer Service and Tech support lacking, to sa the least. Have been working with them to get system functional since day one….they string you along until you are out of your 60 day window, then refuse to allow return. I am paying for two systems because I cannot trust or rely upon simplisafe. DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE. Anyone can pay for a good review, but it is harder to earn one. Notice they don’t have anywhere on THIER website for customer reviews, good or bad? They just cherry pic testimonials. Definitely do not recommend.

    I have had SimpliSafe for a month and had had several issues:
    1) my dog continues to set off the motion sensor, and the company has no answer or advice to fix this — even though one of their biggest advertising points is that it can tell the difference between a human and a pet.
    2) additionally, when they alarm goes off, and I pay for the monthly monitoring service for $14.99, Simplisafe has only called one time even though the alarm has gone off 4-5 times. It either shows they are assuming it is a false alarm, which isn’t comforting, or the monitoring service isn’t effective and the company doesn’t get notified when their is a potential compromise of the security system — also not comforting given that I am paying for the $14.99 a month service for that very feature.

    3) lastly, like any company with bad reviews…if you want to place an order as a new customer, they miraculously pick up your call in 1-2 mins. once they have you as a customer and you need help with the products you are paying for, it can take 10- 20 minutes on hold to speak to someone.

    I’ve had a refurbished package from simplisafe (purchased directly from Simplisafe) for less than a month and in that time I’ve had to replace the batteries in the key pad, had to get a replacement key pad when the screen went out, and had the alarm go off three times due to sensors just falling right off. I’ll repeat I’ve had simplisafe for LESS THAN ONE MONTH. This system is a complete joke.

    Simplisafe Customer Service is almost non-existant. I have been kept on hold for over 40 minutes several times trying to reach their tech support. The “NEW” system I purchased keeps losing its signal to the base and since the update (today) there is no longer any voice to say “Home” or “Please Leave Now”, etc. I would return it if I could but they only allow you 30 days.

    I’m overwhelmed with how helpful SS’s customer service is! I’m a newbie to security systems, & they helped me buy only the pieces I needed, then were super helpful with setup questions & helping me setup a secret alarm so I could monitor the shop’s motion sensor in the home mode where motion sensors are not normally activated.
    The equipment functions are very powerful & versatile I keep learning more that my system can do!
    I feel the price is reasonable for the quality of product & the versatility of the app. I have cloud storage & it’s superb! Love being able to instantly replay the camera clips.
    Only complaint I have is the key fob – terrible design. It is not passcode protected, so anyone who has the fob has control over the whole system & could deactivate with a push of the button! Plus, the fob is much too sensitive — it’s too easy to accidentally arm the system. Mine will never be used as a key fob — it only will hang safely on a concealed hook to turn on/off the system if I don’t have my phone.

    The monitoring is worthless. My alarm went off while I was out of town the monitoring service called me but refused to notify the Baltimore police. I was out of town and had to look up the number and call myself. This took some time because I couldn’t just dial 911.
    I have had the system and monitoring for the past 6 years. Sucks I have wasted my money they FAILED me when I needed them. I don’t understand why the wouldn’t notify the Baltimore PD WTF. WTF have I been paying you for all these years.

    Customer service hours of rather limited, and it takes at least 5 minutes to get hold of someone anytime you need help. I believe the first time it took 10 minutes and the second time I just hung up. The actual app does not work quite right either. I tried at least 8 times to get it to accept my email and password, following all the rules. That is why I called customer service. So now after 2 days, I still do not have the product online. I’m about to give up. I will add that the product was rather expensive up front to be having this much trouble with it.

    Today I was trying to change the billing credit card on my account which I have had for 3 years. No place online to do that anymore. Called customer service and was told, oh you don’t have the right plan to be able to access that information online. WHAT? I have been able to do that for the last 3 years. Oh, well you have to upgrade to the 24.99 a month plan to be able to access you payment information. Not only have they changed the plan without notifying me, they have made a new system that is not compatible with the only one, so if you need to replace it may be you have to buy a whole new system.
    I feel they should at least notify a person if they are making changes to your account. Of course after you have invested 500. in a system, it makes it a little harder to move on to another.

    Worst alarm system, we ever had, would not recommend to ANYONE.
    Doesn’t set up most of the time. Wake up in morning, garage door open, no alarm.
    Come into house alarm doesn’t turn off, later alarm goes off, while walking around house
    Most time will not even set up at all, at home are away.
    SimplySafe is simply made to sell,,NO customer service.

    This alarm and customer service is by far is the Worst!!! I should have really taken current and previous customers reviews seriously, from the time I received the system there were issues, sent base with wrong cell chip, after I paid overnight shipping. Then they screwed up accounts , I bought for my business and residents . Once after 4 weeks of thinking everything was running smooth , business had false alarm, ( I NEVER received a phone call when alarm went off) I called and they said the date stamps on alarm were dated “1969” REALLY?!?! . And they would call me back after resolution. Still waiting… but, when they do decide to call back they will be told both systems are sent back . Oh… and if you think calls will be answered in a speedy way , think again…!! Enternal HOLD!!!!!

    We have had this system for several years… not too many problems but as of January 1, 2018 the company changed the online access information. Without any notice you now no longer have online access to your PIN, system, devices etc. You can pay an additional $10 for this. This is crap customer service. No notice of the change so the online portal is virtually worthless. Our area has NEVER had good coverage for T-mobile and we have had a problem with the “no link to dispatch” which also means you have NO alarm so after my call this morning they will be sending a Verizon chip ….. If you live on the west coast you can not get help after 9 PM pacific time…. so let’s hope nothing happens at night! Be very careful how much you rely on this product for protection! But wait isn’t that why we bought it. Well maybe one of your family survivors can sue them.

    I no longer will recommend Simplisafe to friends and relatives.

    We have had the Simplisafe system installed for over three years with billing costs of $14.95/month.

    This allowed for active system monitoring by their monitoring company.

    The equipment was rather unreliable at times giving false alarms requiring the monitoring company to contact us to see if the police should be notified.

    Since the property was in another town, 40 miles away, we were able to use our computer to go online and see what sensor was causing the alarm.

    We had several false alarms from sensors at various times so we were able to tell the monitoring company not to send the police. Obviously if the police received frequent false alarms we could be charged for the police responding frequently of have the police just put the call at the bottom of the list.

    Recently we had the need to check the condition of the sensors (Not to enable or disable the alarm but just check to see if any sensors were faulty) and found that we were not able to check the sensor status from our computer. (We do not have any mobile devices).

    When we accessed the Simplisafe site we were told that we now would have to pay for the more expensive service $24.95/month even if we just wanted to check the status of the sensors!

    In addition to Simplisafe having equipment problems (Two of our remote entry key fobs failed as well as numerous sensor failures) the waits for customer service were always extremely long.

    Recently purchased a SimpliSafe Home Security system. Up front, the system is easy to set of and seems to work fine. However, to date, I have noticed one major problem that is actually a blatant misrepresentation by the company. On its website, Simplisafe represents as follows – “Detects intruders, not pets. Alarms that cry wolf? No thanks. We precision-engineered our motion sensors to detect the unique heat signature of humans. No pets.” In fact, pets do set the motion detectors off, even small pets. This was confirmed by email when I contacted Simplisafe. In fact, the representative admitted that even appliances can set off the motion detector! So beware if you have pets or appliances.

    I have advised them to take down the false advertisement. To date, it remains up on their website.

    Seems to be a disconnect between your order history, previous communications, and product knowledge. Typical plague when a company comes out with a new idea that catches on, then is forced to hire too many phone reps. The knowledge base varies from very knowledgeable to standard / boilerplate answers to bordering on clueless. True with wait times, after 15 minutes, left a message (they direct you to do so) then no return call. This also occurred with their email request for my phone number. No return call

    I have been with simplisafe for over 6 yrs. I have had only i Motion detector fail and it was replaced free within 3 days. Service and response time are great. I have 5 motion, 1 Glass breaking, and 7 entrance sensors. I am most impressed with response time, from when the alarm goes off till the phone rings.

    There is no customers service only personnel to look at your system online and tell you what you can see online. Will not let you talk to anyone else even personnel in marketing. If you have a problem it is just tough. I have three systems, Two I have not hooked up yet. When I purchase last year was told when new system came out current customers would be offered the system in place of their current system. The new system has been out for a while but I was advised that marketing made no arrangements for customers. This company is only interested in sales and not customers.

    They have tied up over $400 of my money on an equipment purchase and it’s been 2 months and they tell me lies and on a wild goose chase. I have not received anything from them but a head time. I believe they are a scam! DON’T BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. I can’t even get a manager on the phone!

    I Have been with Simplisafe for years and was one of their original customers. Recently I ran into problems with the base station going off line and no report being sent that there was a problem. Since I have had the service as soon as there was some type of problem with the base station there would be an immediate notification. This comes in handy if the power gets cut to the base station or anything else that could put it off line. Once the base station goes off line your system is basically not alarming. I made many calls to customer service and they swore that Simplisafe never had such a feature … Really .. Are you kidding me. Anyway the company has gotten so big the @ss doesn’t know what the elbow is doing. Long story short I had to cancel my service and I found a comparable company that has many of the same features. They seem popping up all over. It is a shame that when company gets so big the customer service just goes right into the toilet. They used to have amazing customer service and technical support. At this point I no longer recommend Simplisafe. If your not notified when there are equipment troubles with the system it is pretty much a useless system.

    From problems with the shoddy equipment to the customer NO service department, I cancelled my service today after a year and a half – and I only have the base package! Not much to go wrong – or so I thought. From having to replace the chip in the base station, to the key fob working part time at best, to the key pad just dying while I was trying to disarm it, the problems were endless. The dying key pad was the final straw. The alarm went off one morning because I was unable to enter the code into the dying pad and the key fob wasn’t working either. When they called to see if I needed assistance I could hardly even understand them over the loud, blaring alarm. I had no way to disarm it. When I was told I was being put on hold until someone could assist me with turning it off, I pitched a fit and they got someone on the line within a couple of minutes. Apparently you have to raise hell to get anything done with these people. I was certainly not going to wait on hold for the hour+ time I’ve waited in the past. By the way, pressing 5 and leaving a message is fruitless. Don’t waste your time. I received a replacement pad, but when I attempted to set it up, I couldn’t access the menu because of an error message displayed on the pad. Over the course of 12 days I called five times and left messages stating what the problem was and that I do not get home until at least 6 and to please call me back then. EVERY time I got a call back, it wasn’t the same evening, it was the next day before noon while I was at work and unable to access my equipment. When I finally got someone on the phone to cancel my service I was informed that I still had to pay for the entire month of monitoring because they can only refund the amount of $14.99… Good riddance!

    Run away from this brand. Their customer service center is perhaps the worst I’ve seen. The refused my request to speak to a manager over their shipping mistake. They refused to make it right in any way shape or form. The decided a return of a $670 system was preferable to any other alternative and their customer manager apparently agreed. No problem: you lost a customer, got a returned system and someone who enjoys posting their issues online. Make it Right SimpliSafe.

    Simplisafe app does not work for computer. cannot access info about account on computer. after logging in get only blank screen and customer service does not know why. Seen many of same complaint from others on web search. Need to get rid of IT guy who set this up and get it fixed.

    Is Simplisafe becoming the next cable provider in terms of service? We all know how terrible it is to deal with cable service like Comcast. Future of Simplisafe the same???

    Recently I’ve been having a lot of “link will not connect to dispatch”. I have had it approximately 8 times over the last year. Also, there are long call center support waits when trying to get assistance to reset the system. I’ve recently considered moving to another company.

    I was ready to pull the trigger for Simplisafe and called for more information. The customer service agent was chewing gum while talking with me. He didn’t really have good customer service skills and that left me with a bad impression of the company. Instead, I called a local company with good Yelp reviews that installed a 2GIG system that are much better than Simplisafe that I can also home automate. I did have to sign a 3 year contract and pay a little more per month but it’s worth it. I can reach out to them if I have any issues with the system. The system has Z-wave technology so I can go to a different monitoring service after my contract is up. The cost was half of Simplisafe upfront since I upgraded the control panel. I’m really happy I made the right choice. Looking at the other reviews here really validated my choice.

    I’ve had the original system for two years now with no problems. Spent over $500. Now they made improvements but none of the NEW components will work with original system. Oh my, what engineer thought of that, Ohn it must’ve been sales department because you would have to buy a WHOLE new system to get the improvements!!

    I purchased the system at the time cameras weren’t available. When they came out with the cameras less then a year prior to purchasing. I purchased 2 cameras. I am very good at setting up technical devices. No matter how much I tried using each camera it wouldn’t work. Therefore I called Technical Support. Oh God what a disappointment.     Note: This is a review of the old version, as the new came out about a month after purchase.
    Have had this for almost 4 months. Setup wasn’t too bad. Everything seemed to work, as promised. I did call customer support initially, as the base wouldn’t connect to a cell network. Was told T-Mobile was having an issue and it was taking a bit longer than normal to initialize/sync with SimpliSafe. It was fine by the next morning.
    Tip: when going to setup, note on the boxes where the sensor is installed. Then, you can easily label them online or in the app on your phone. Camera installed fairly easily.
    I did get a few false alarms on one motion sensor. Luckily, I was just arriving home both times and everything looked fine. They stayed on the phone with me, while I checked. I changed the sensitivity to low and so far, so good (perhaps the cat was setting it off, somehow).
    When testing w/ Panic button and testing the smoke detector, I received calls from SimpliSafe within 30-60 secs. Great response time!
    As far as the concerns with it being hacked….true, it can be. However, it requires that a thief knows that you have an alarm and what brand you have, build a device and either sit outside, near your house or stash it somewhere nearby and get it later (not likely with vast majority of criminals). It also only intercepts the signal between keypad and base station. So, to minimize this risk:
    1. Don’t advertise what brand of system you have (use generic signs, if you want).
    2. I even cover up the keypad, so that it can’t be seen w/ the logo on it.
    3. Only use your smartphone to arm/disarm, to avoid an intercept.
    4. Change your pin code on occasion.
    5. Hide base station behind something (but near outside wall).

    Overall, upfront costs and adding sensors can be a bit pricey, but you own it and can take it with you, if you move. No contract and several levels of monitoring (cheaper than most competitors) sold me.

    This company does not have adequate protection against Carbon Monoxide. The newest system does not even offer that option even though they promised it 3 months ago. Its pretty lame. Further the base station that I received had to be required before it would work (I had to install a new mother board myself) and I had a defective smoke detector that had to be replaced. This is pretty poor.

    i have had this system for 2 years ad the last year have been unable to link to dispatch. made several attempts to cancel and still being charged the monthly fee. looks like i am going to have to cancel my credit card for payment to stop

    Terrible customer service. The 5-6 times I have called the customer service center, I get inexperienced people who seem to know little about the product and keep saying please and I will see if someone here knows how to help with your question. No one seems to give you the same story. You will hear “please hold” hundreds of times for a simple question. If you call after 5:00 p.m. you will be on hold for an hour or more. When you call in to ask a question, you get some kid and it sounds like a college party going on in the background. I would not do this again. And the BLUE LIGHT, forget about it This company had promise, but their help call center is room by people who don’t understand the unit themselves. Oh my goodness. Think twice!!!!

    The equipment is proprietary, which limits you to their monitoring service only. Many of the other companies use high quality GE products that can be monitored by various companies. Also, other companies will give you free or reduced price equipment with monitoring. Simplisafe has a high upfront cost. I also wasn’t impressed with the lack of compatibility with smart devices and lack of z-wave function. They’ve come out with an upgraded line of equipment, but I was disappointed with the cheap look and feel of their devices. Go with a more reputable company and you won’t regret it.

    I give a rating of 3 because the setup was relatively easy for everything but the camera. I spent hours on the line with support trying to get the camera connected. I had to sit it on top of the wifi receiver with a bright lamp for it to connect. Once connected, the camera would not stay connected if it was moved to the desired location which was also not far from the receiver. I left a VM and email with customer service an hour ago, but no call back yet. Very disappointed that I have wasted my day on this.

    Have been a member for about 4 years. Some minor problems occurred but were able to correct them. Equipment is ok. However, when your company decided to no longer support the Constitution of the United States, then I NO longer care to support you. I am a law-abiding citizen and I am the NRA.

    Installed a Simplisafe system last weekend. Everything worked great. Placed a call for support and while I waited about 5-minutes to be helped, they answered my questions completely. System on-line a couple of days and one of my smoke detectors (I’ve got about 15 devices) couldn’t connect to the base. Called support, waited about 5-minutes again, but they ran through a quick test that didn’t work and they immediately said they would send a replacement OVERNIGHT and would provide a return label for the old one. This system is simple to install and simple to use. I would highly recommend the system and the company. I’ve seen some complaints about wait time calling for support, but I’ve called twice and both times were not unreasonable wait times, after hours for a growing company. VERY SATISFIED.

    I now have over $800.00 in my Simplisafe System. Bought the initial Series III package from Best Buy. Ordered additional parts online from Simplisafe, Boston. When I ordered the items thru the mail/internet I told the Simplisafe rep NOT to send items in paper mailing envelopes as UPS would/will crush/destroy. First they lost my money order, and then my items arrived in Cheap Paper envelopes crushed and damaged. When I tried to complain on line (twice) they said the email was not readable. So now I have damaged parts and I AM SUPPOSED to fix it and the problem was caused by Simplisafe NOT Listening and yes telling me the lie that they would send it in a box. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Guess as long as they have the money THEY are happy. I AM NOT.Asked for owners name, they said “Brad”…….

    I wish I had purchased a different system. While the Simplisafe system is highly spoken of my problem is I asked about a strobe before I purchased over two years ago and though I was not promised a strobe option I was led to believe a strobe was likely in near future! System is installed with my wife’s safety being the primary reason as she is deaf, the system in it’s current form is useless! For the last two + years I have call a number of times and have always been given the same annoying response, we will turn it over to our engineering department for consideration. After all this time I am pretty sure there will never be a strobe and I am faced with throwing this in the trash and starting over with another system.
    Before you purchase this system make sure you are happy with what you see is what you get as you can not count on anything they say is right down the road!

    The initial setup was an issue because the default cellular service at my vacation home was very poor. My cell phone uses Verizon which had full bars. After about 20 minutes with customer service trying different things they decided to send me a new verizon circuit board for my base unit which arrive in two days. A couple of screws and I was connected. I highly recommend this system and company. If you have any issues, these folks will work it out. Don’t get frustrated.
