SimpliSafe has two, 24/7 monitoring plans. “The Standard” is a home security service that is $15/month. It uses a cellular connection through Verizon and T-Mobile. “The Interactive” is a professional monitoring plan is $25/month. This includes smart home integrations and alerts via mobile app, as well us unlimited camera recording. These monthly fees are lower than other home security systems.

  • Sensors. Many customers report having to replace faulty sensors – not connecting to the overall home security system properly, or not sticking to the walls/doors. Specific reviews mention the carbon monoxide sensor.
  • Cheap Equipment. In addition to issues with the sensors, many report that they have experienced issues and glitches with the entire system.

High Upfront Fees

SimpliSafe customers have to pay for their equipment upfront, which means they will pay a minimum of $229 upfront for SimpliSafe’s most basic system, and over $775 for the most comprehensive system, a doorbell camera, and indoor cameras. This can be expensive for homeowners who don’t have the funds to make a large payment upfront before receiving their home security equipment.

SimpliSafe Packages

Most packages include no contracts, 24/7 professional monitoring, and no phone line is needed. All offered packages come with a. base station, keypad, and sensors.

The Foundation: $229.00

This is the smallest equipment package SimpliSafe offers – made for small homes and apartments. It includes a main door sensor, motion sensor, base station, and keypad. As with all plans, buyers can add on SimpliSafe products: a video doorbell (with two-way audio and motion alert) for $169, and SimpliSafe camera for $99. The camera offers motion alerts and you can stream live feed from your app.

The Essentials: $259.95

The next package from SimpliSafe is “The Essentials”. Instead of one sensor, this package includes three door sensors. It comes with the base station and keypad.

The Hearth: $374.91

Additional equipment includes a key fob, a smoke detector, and a 105dB siren. Only one motion sensor is included.

The Knox: $449.87

This kit is ideal for larger homes, as it includes twice as many sensors as the previous packages: six entry sensors and 2 motion sensors.

The Haven: $489.86

While this package only includes four entry sensors, it also has a water sensor and a freeze sensor, which will alert you if the temperature in your home drops below 41 degrees. All of these home automation features can be monitored by the company’s app.

The Fortress: $509.86

This security system is unique in its offering of two keypads – one for upstairs and for downstairs. This home security set also includes the key fob, panic button, siren, two motion sensors, and six entry sensors.

However, customer service may not be able to help if you run into issues. Many negative reviews about SimpliSafe’s equipment (motion sensor) lead us to believe the low monitoring costs are not worth it. Additionally, customers will pay a lot up-front to buy sensors and other equipment that get a lot of negative reviews.     Don’t waste your money. The product has sent out 2 false alarms from the smoke detector and 4 false alarms from the motion sensor in the past year and a half. We have been billed $75 each time from the emergency services that responded to the calls. Customer service told us we either had a large bug or dust particles in the air setting off the system.
    Now we are stuck with $400 worth of equipment and no monitoring system.

    The quality of the equipment is terrible and you can’t rely on it – it loses periodically connection to the dispatcher center or keypad loses connection to the base. Also, my keychain remote stopped working – and I have it for just about 18 months.. When calling cust support you need to be at home and then you’ll spent half an hour doing various testing and resettings. It starts working again but then after a while the same issues come back. Last time when I tried to call the customer support, i spent over 15 minutes waiting to get connected and listening the music and then just hang up. Sick and tired of this, and looking for another and better company, just wasted about $400 on the equipment. Don’t wast your money.

    When it rained or there were strong winds I could not use the phone-app or the website dashboard to turn on or turn off my alarm system. In additions there were times when I was unable to turn my alarm off, I then entered my home which caused the siren to sound but because of the poor cellular service simplisafe never called to alert me of a illegal entry. I used the service. I was sent a module that I had to insert into the base-station that they claimed would boost the cellular signal. However, the problems still persisted. There customer service only offered canned excused of offers to troubleshoot but refused to send me a new base-station. I recently cancelled my service after about 2 years of very mediocre service.

    We bought this Simplisafe System. After using for couple of days we had power failure for more than 12 hours, the Simplisafe system base station stopped working after 4 hours. When I called the Simplisafe company they sent me a replacement base system assuring me that I would not have to re program, the base system will come with all the information from the old base station. Well, it did not and when I called Simplisafe, I got a run around. Being an eighty old nervous person, I would have to hire someone to do all the work for the defective unit. Simplisafe did not want to compensate for my expense. I do not have any other option, either hire someone to program it or return the system. Will return the system,

    Product works fine if you have it in only one location/property/address. If you are a realestate investor / flipper and move it around from property to property it is a huge headache and very finicky. you have to do multiple resets, taking the battery out and unplugging and waiting for it to reconnect to the central station. If it loses power while at a property it can also require a hands-on visit to the property to get it reconnected to central dispatch and to the mobile and internet remote monitoring applications.

    We bought our system almost two year ago and we were happy with it until recently. In the last 3-4 months the system blinks 2-3 times per week and says “no link to dispatch center.” We have tried all the recommendations on their website and even called in a couple times. They always say the same thing… “try moving the base station to get a better signal, blah blah blah.” The system as been in the same place the whole time and had always worked before. Plus we have great cell reception is our house which is in a highly populated area (San Diego).

    I feel like they want us to spend more money buying a new system, and hence they’ve made the original system with a life expectancy of a year or two .

    I guess that’s how they want to drive up revenues. Maybe the monthly monitoring i pay every month is not enough for Simplisafe.

    My family and i are feeling not so safe, and a little ripped off by having to pay the monitoring and only getting the service 3-4 days per week (when it’s working)!

    Customer service has NOT been helpful either.

    Trash. No longer supports mac. Simplisafe informed me that they wont update on their end to support newer ios’.
    They recently came out with new equipment which none of it is integrable with later generation. Total garbage and useless support.
    Many bad reviews and complaints all over the net. Waiting for the class action lawsuit.

    I just installed SimpliSafe. Happy with product as far as use. Installation was relatively painless. Function is easy. I am concerned about the life of batteries.

    I’m also concerned about how the local departments will respond if there’s an event.
    I’m not happy about being informed to file permits with local police and fire department as “self installed.” According to SimpliSafe, in my local jurisdiction the police or fire department will only come out if there is visual confirmation.
    So, if alarm sounds they will only respond to visual confirmation? What does that mean? Someone has to see a break in or a fire? Apparently the alarm sounding is not enough to trigger a response from fire or local police. This I information was made to me only after purchase.

    I signed up for basic monitoring not only so authorities are aware of there’s an event at my home but also to use the app to controll SimpliSafe functions from my mobile device.
    One must upgrade monitoring to premium monthly package to use app to control system.
    Every other appliance in my home including thermostat provide apps that are free to use to control functions in house.

    This is very disappointing that a security company that prides itself and sets itself apart from other companies as being affordable takes advantage of not allowing the use of an app unless one pays premium monitoring.

    I had problems with false alarms. They used a third party monitoring company. The third party monitoring company verified I gave them my safe word and requested no officer be sent. Despite my request an officer was sent. They refused to take responsibility! This did not just happen once but three times. So I canceled the service. Once I canceled the service they never stopped billing my credit card. This place is a scam!!!!

    I purchased their newest system as well as every component monitoring everything from fire, water to entry points as well as temperature sensors. I have at least 40 sensors in operation. Its been three months and thus far I have no complaints.

    Customer is a headache to get hold of. i called today and was on hold for 23 minutes before I was able to speak with someone, who additionally attempted to sing in my ear between her speaking. Online return requests should be available also. Simpisafe is an affordable decent system, but the customer service needs to drastically improve. My comparison would be that they are along the lines of the Comcast level, when it comes to service.

    Simplisafe has come out with an upgraded system this year and it’s very, very good. It’s a simple, easy to install system that delivers on it’s promises to be just that…simple. If your looking for Fort Knox security with this system, it’s not that. The system comes with a keypad and a base station standard then you can add door sensors, CO detectors, smoke detectors and a variety of other devices. The system is offered in packages or ala carte style, which is what I did. The 2018 upgraded system has Wi-Fi added which greatly improved the reliability of the monitoring response and the automatic push notifications to my phone. I installed the system in about 2-3 hours which included taking my old system down.
    With the phone app I can arm and disarm my system, get alerts, and even see if a door is open when the system is off…which is awesome if you have teenagers at home or elderly parents, etc..
    I really love this system… It’s simple, reliable, and easy to install….what more could you want for the price

    I waited over 25 minutes for a customer service rep to answer and when she finally answered and I asked “why the long wait for a security company?” and started to ask a question about my panic button she HUNG UP on me. My, what well trained customer service reps you have Simplisafe, you must be very proud. Worst experience ever with a company that is supposedly to be protecting you. Glad I never had to call during a break in, “ excuse me Mr. criminal, I’m on hold, so can you hold on till someone answers?” What a joke of a company.

    We were broke into with the newest version of simplisafe, and the burglars must have watched the video on Youtube on how to smash the base station within the delay period before the system can call the operators, and we got cleaned out. The burglar took a magic marker and wrote on the living room wall: BUY A REAL ALARM NEXT TIME. I have a photo of it.

    My insurance company is not covering the claim because they said that Simplisafe is not UL Listed. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. We called a local company.

    Have had the SS2 system for almost 5 years and it has worked flawlessly for us. I run a test on the system once and await and very thing always checks out OK. It works so good I ordered the new SS3 system. Now I will say one thing bad and that is their customer service. It is hit and miss. I have not needed to use customer service other then a couple of times, one time good the other time not so good. Over all the system has done what is was designed to do. Secure our home..

    Horrible customer service. We had three fake allarms, and the customer service NEVER called, so, for three times in six month the police was knocking our door. After the second arrival, we got a warning letter from the police, letting us know that we are gonna pay a fee if they will come back to a fake alarm. We tried to tald to a supervisor, we waited in line for more than two hours and we hang up, because nobody answered.Today they came for the third time. Again a fake alarm, and customer service never called, though thwy have three phone numbers. Now We tey to talk to a superviser, we are waiting already for more than an hour on the phone, to talk to a supervisor and nobody answer. We are good to pay a police fee, because their sloppy job.
