Free Installation and Equipment

Slomin’s guarantees professional installation on all projects, and estimates between four and six hours’ installation time for each install (depending on the size of the job and the security features requested).

All equipment is free when you sign up for professional monitoring with Slomin’s. For this reason, monthly alarm fees are slightly higher than for other companies.

24/7 Monitoring

Security customers can also rest easy with Slomin’s round-the-clock security monitoring and fast response times. The company even provides a form of false alarm prevention by providing customers with a unique password to be used in the event of a false alarm.

5-Year Contract

Slomin’s only offers a 60-month contract–two years longer than the standard 36-month contract offered by most home security companies. And while the company promises approximately $1,300 in free equipment by signing such a long contract, customers will be required to compensate Slomin’s should they decide to terminate the contract before it expires.

Average To Expensive Monthly Fees

Monitoring service start at $33.95/month for home security services, but if customers request additional equipment (possibly including home automation, or heating and cooling features), they could be paying $46.95/month. Unfortunately, Slomin’s gives no information on these other prices, and customers will be required to speak personally with a customer service representative in order to procure this information.

Free System includes panel and keypad, motion detector, up to 3 door contacts, window decals, lawn sign, communication device, and battery backup. Five year monitoring agreement required at $33.95/month for basic system. Promotion of free indoor video camera and mobile app control increases monitoring rate to $46.95/month.

Complaints Against Slomin’s

The Slomin’s reviews on Best Home Security Companys are mostly negative – especially in 2019. Some common themes of these reviews include:

  • Poor customer service. The customer service is described as rude, and often trying to upsell customers.
  • Contract. There are many complaints about Slomin’s 5-year contract. This is the longest length contract in home security. Customers report that breaking their contract have run them anywhere from $1000 to $2000. There are a few reviews that reference a 2-year contract. Some people report a miscommunication from what they were told their contract said, and what their contract actually said.
  • Alarm maintenance issues. There are several reports of poor quality equipment, and alarm issues that required a technician to fix.

About Slomin’s

Slomin’s provides customers with a number of home automation tools that allow them to monitor and control their home’s security while they’re away. Customers can access door locks, thermostats, lighting, and both live and recorded video monitoring all from the conveniences of the Slomin’s smartphone app.

The Slomin’s Shield System – $33.95+/month

This is the only alarm package advertised on Slomin’s website. It comes with basic home monitoring equipment and one indoor camera. Price starts at $33.95 a month (we assume this is for 60 months). Equipment upgrades and add ons will result in a higher monthly fee. You can monitor your system with the mySlomin’s mobile app.

The Slomin’s Shield Home Automation System Devices – $29.95+/month

The company also offers a package that focuses on home automation controlled from the mySolmin’s app. Package includes:

  • Light control
  • Front door lock
  • Garage door opener
  • Smart thermostat
  • Appliance control (turn a plugged-in appliance on and off from your phone)

They seem to offer several other pieces of alarm equipment, although it’s unclear whether or not you can build your own security system with them. Other equipment includes a control panel, motion/window detectors, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, water sensors, glass break sensors, z-wave device, and pan tilt zoom cameras.

For commercial security systems, Slomin’s offer the following solutions:
  • Access Control – Choose whether you need Badge Access, Gate or Door Control, Photo IDs, Time and Attendance Monitoring, and Fingerprint Reading.
  • Video Cameras – In case you need to keep track of lost items or goods, point of sales, events, and live monitoring.

    In case of emergency, don’t rely on them. I have been with them for years and they have been very unprofessional. My alarm went off for a very long time. I had to call 911 for myself. Even after the police came, Slomin’s did not even call to see if everything was ok. Many bad experiences with this company. I spent so much money on their security material, I’m afraid to start over with a new company.

    The alarm system that was agreed upon, and price that was agreed upon were contrcted, yet the receipt had a completely different price on it ($10 more than agreed upon). We went for the basic system install, the installer did a horrible job installing leaving wires within reach of my toddlers, after multiple requests to move the wires, he stated that this is where the plug is and this is the only place he can put it. The sales man, provided his cell number in case of any issues, yet never answered a single call nor responded to any phone calls/text messages/emails. When calling the main customer service number in long island, when I asked to cancel the contract I was told that they are going to sue me for the rest of the monies and hung up the call. Everything about slomins shield is crap and their long island sales team suck, if I leave a negative 10 stars, I’d do that.

    Seems like their independent contractors collect social security numbers of customers for fraudulent use. I am still awaiting a response back from Slomins customer service concerning this. When I asked the employee for the Slomins Company main number, he refused to give it to me – after collecting 3 of my family members social security numbers claiming they didn’t go through & a $300 deposit is needed. However, how can’t our SS#’s not go through for slomins, but our credit has always been good enough for our houses, cars, credit cards, etc.? It doesn’t add up. Our credit is good. I just need to know is this company fraudulent or not? A scam, or are any of the employees running fraudulent schemes?

    I’m super satisfied with my alarm company going on now for more than 20 years . They have always updated me with new equipment as I should be updated .The most polite customer service. I consider Slomins a big part of My life. Keeping me, my children and family safe. You can’t put a price on that. My advise to anyone is …you pay for what you get and Slomins is the best price out there for the great service.Ask yourself how much do you care about yourself. Then pick Slomins to protect you.     Slomin’s has asked me to upgrade their system multiple times (with fee) recently, I have gave them same answer every time that I am not interested in upgrading my system because I will be moving soon.
    Today, my alarm starts beeping and indicate the motion detector’s battery needs to be replaced. After spoke to the customer service rep and open up the motion detector, I found that it does not have any batter in it. It is hard wired. I knew something is not right because I had this very same system for almost10 years and never need to replace “battery”. I called back again, the 2nd customer service rep told me there is a problem with my motion detector and I need to spend > $80 for a technician to come since I do not have “service agreement”. I have explained the situation to her that there is nothing wrong with my motion detector and there is no problem with my wire. Any issue must came from the Slomin’s side. I just want the beeping to stop so I can go to bed. It is loud and repeat within a minute. There is no way anyone can sleep with this noise. She told me the only option is to unplug it and let the keypad battery die out which may take more than 24 hour. Which also means that I will have not alarm system. To make the long story short, She offered to sent a technician to upgrade my system for $39 and “wave” the technician fee for the service of the motion detector. I have every reason to believe that the beep noise is caused by Slomin’s with purpose of forcing their customer to upgrade the system. We are customers paying for their services. Any upgrade for this company to deliver its service should be paid by company. If anyone from government agency that regulate the alarm company sees this complain, please look into it. We need someone to protect our rights. I am glad my contract is finishing in a few months and moving away soon. I will never use again or recommend this company.

    Slomin has to the worst alarm company out there . I had trouble with my alarm beeping . Customer service insisted that batteries had to be changed. After several phone calls they realized that my system was hard wired. Something I said all along. BE SMART USE ANOTHER ALARM COMPANY!! I can’t wait till my contract is up .

    For the past few months technicians have been stopping by without a scheduled appointment, which I was never home for but got emails letting me know they were here. I was first told it was to replace old batteries then was finally told they need to update my equipment so it will communicate with the new 5G towers and that I will be paying for this upgrade. I want nothing to do with this and I especially don’t want to have to pay for it.
    They have also been slowly raising my bill over the last 3 years. I was told that this increase is in the fine print in my contract.
    Ive talked to friends who have other home security systems and none of them are experiencing this. I can’t wait until my contract is over.

    This is a compliant about Slomin’s security monitoring. On 7/17/19, my alarm system went off and I waited over 5 minutes for a Slomin’s representative to contact me to see if I had a emergency. After about 7 minutes I call Slomin’s security to advise them that no one called to see if I had an actual emergency. Finally when I did speak with a customer service rrepsentative I was informed that my Slomin’s Security had updated their security system with new arlarm key pads, etc. I asked why I was not informed of the updates and the representative she did not know. I also asked how long was my service interrupted and again the customer rep replied she did not know. At this point I beccme concerned and asked for a refund for the time my service was interrupted due to the Slomin’s security upgrade. The customer rep replied Slomin’s does not give refunds. I then stated I wanted to cancelled my monitoring service and the customer service rep stated she would need to transferred my call to the cancellation department.

    Once the Slomin’s Security cancellation department finally answer the phone, I was told that Slolmin’s could not tell me how long my monitoring service was out and again they do not issue refunds. I stated to the rep that I am disable and that I had a false sense of security by not being advised up the Slomin’s security update and continuing to pay my quarterly fees of $108.98.

    I still want to know how long my system was not working and request a full refund. This is outrageous when a company as large has Slomin’s Security does not inform their customers of upgrades which could affect the system is not working properly.

    I want the president of Slomin’s Security to read this and right this wrong.

    I had oil delivery from Slomins Locked in a decent rate. They came to fill my tank every 3 weeks like clockwork, that’s until my contract was about to expire, then waited an extra week (contract was now over) to make sure my tank was near dry and then billed me $6 a gallon. Slomins is disgusting. I just paid $900 to cancel my alarm with them after being lied to by sales rep. We were sold an alarm a year before we moved as an upgrade to what we previously had wit them, they told us it would only be $150 to move the alarm. That wasn’t the case at all we’re were quoted $1800 for a new system. Slimy sales rep and company wouldn’t stand behind the dirtbag that sold us.. girl on the phone told me I should have read the fine print the sales rep can saw whatever he wants. Slomins scum!!!

    The slomins company. Is practicing with false advertising I was put in this contract without my authority at this time I’m not working and. I’m being told I have 5 years contract??? Im not working so I can’t pay the monthly payment. So I’m being forced to pay a cancellation of $1,400.00??? If I’m not working how why should I be penalized for not being able to pay?! Plus I’m not even using this alarm and the company knows if they are really monitoring. I believe this company is exercising false business practices…

    They will say anything to get you to sign, and will do anything to take your money. Won’t do anything to make a customer happy.

    Had them come in for an estimate on ductless AC because central air install is very difficult on my house. The sales guy assured me that the other 3 AC guys I had where crazy and central would be really easy to install. I get a price that is a little under the ductless systems and around what a standard install should be. They take a deposit on my credit card and start the process.

    Days later they send out a tech to do an inspection and map out the install. He tells me it is going to be very hard to do the install. I will need wood work in the attic, that he needs to run drops in my master bedroom, not just the closets and the other drops will take up even more room. So everything I told the sales guy (John Given) was an issue that he assured me was no problem at all was a massive problem. The tech says that ductless would be much better. I have to call John back to get another estimate. The ductless from Slomin’s, which is of a lower quality than other systems would be 6k more than other systems. I tell them that is to much and I am not going forward with that.

    John can’t cancel my order even though he is the one who took my order. I have to call the help line. I call and find out they can’t and won’t refund my credit card, they will have to process the refund and mail me a check. So they took payment right away and will not refund me for weeks.

    I tried to schedule maintenance on my system as per their contract. I was told they don’t do it in the winter to call back and setup for the summer. I tried to setup a call. They told me December 10, so when I asked in December I was told summer, now I’m told winter.

    DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANYTHING.

    I will be canceling my other service plans with them because of this horrible sales and customer service.

    Shady business practices, long term contracts, expensive services, shoddy equipment. Look elsewhere. I was just notified about an equipment upgrade after only a year of signing up, they want me to pay for it. They sold outdated equipment 3G vs 4/5g radio backup; and passed it onto the consumers. Huge cancellation fee.

    Slomin’s needs to “upgrade” their something???? to 5G. They are requiring their customers to contribute to this upgrade. As best as I could tell Slomin’s is required to up grade to 5G by some governmental agency that no one in customer service could identify. Customer service kept repeating :you can Google the isuue. It was in all the news” still no one could explain that if this is REQUIRED for their system to operate why do customers have to bear some of the cost instead of it being a cost of doing business for them. I asked friends with other alarm services and no one is being charged for this upgrade and in fact had not heard about it on the news or from their alarm service.

    A 5 year contract that they didn’t even tell me about when I took their service. I just moved out of state, they provide no service where I am, and I get stuck with a bill for $417.90. When I called Slomin’s I was told 5 year contract with no compromises on what I had to pay. I had to move for health reasons, and the woman on the phone was even nasty. UGH I would never recommend them!

    My fiancé (now husband) and I rented an apt together years ago. While I wanted ADT, he wanted to use Slomins so I agreed. We were only in the apt for a year before we decided to relocate? I called Slomins to let them know that we would be moving in 30 days and they told me too bad, I’m bound to a contract and have to pay them to get out of it. They wanted $1500 to exit the contract which we didn’t have. I paid up through the entire lease and called again to tell them that I could not honor that exuberant amount for an alarm system. They told me that I should have read the contract thoroughly. Not only were they incredibly rude, but my co-worker had been in a similar situation and was able to negotiate an exit without penalties so they had options. Let’s just say that years later, they actually put a lien on my husband in the amount of $1800 as a penalty for breaking the contract.

    So on top of paying the monthly service bill on time, this works out to be an additional $150 a month on top of the base price. Who pays $350-400 a month for a few monitors in an apartment?? Pure rip-off and compared to what I pay now, $90 every 3 months for an entire 4 bedroom house. There are too many cost effective options on the market to be tied in contract with this old school company. Nobody does that anymore. It’s a sign of pure desperation so my advice, steer clear. I wish I had followed my instincts and known that an ALARM company, not a bank, creditor or government agency, but an ALARM company would use mob tactics to strong-arm us into paying $400 a month AND put a lien on us for additional fees due to the loss of business, I would have run. Consider this a favor of what could happen with these thieves.

    The Slomins Shield System allows “Z-Wave Devices” to be added by the consumer but the devices then cannot be updated, modified or removed by the consumer unless Slomins sends out an technician for more than $80.00 an hour. That is completely wrong by allowing a person to install equipment when following the manufactures instructions for the device that was purchased, incurring no charge or fee and then charging to update, modify or remove the device. Slomins has set a proprietary password locking the consumer out of accessing the Z-Wave Hub for the keypad. all that is needed to update modify or delete the Z-Wave Device is the touch of one button. The Z-Wave Device Manufactures believe the consumer should have access to in order to modify the devices as it is stated in their installation instructions.

    Stay away liars more concern about the money not the customer .When l talked to the salesman for the home alarm system l told him my father at the time was a 90 year old vet.l would like to get the system for him but the contract states you have up to three months to cancel l said to the salesman Rich my father might not like the system he might get nerves with the system.Richard said to me any time lf he wants he can cancel the system after the three months .In the fourth month he wanted to cancel he was to nerves with the system he set it off a couple of times.whenI called to tell them they wanted the penalty of 1500 dollars l said give him a break he’s a vet and 90 years old they didn’t every week they would call.Its been 1 year seen my father passed away and I writing this now because it still hurts and when you’re contract is up because I got the same alarm with my father,see how difficult they make it.Again not good people just want the money
