Free Installation and Equipment

Slomin’s guarantees professional installation on all projects, and estimates between four and six hours’ installation time for each install (depending on the size of the job and the security features requested).

All equipment is free when you sign up for professional monitoring with Slomin’s. For this reason, monthly alarm fees are slightly higher than for other companies.

24/7 Monitoring

Security customers can also rest easy with Slomin’s round-the-clock security monitoring and fast response times. The company even provides a form of false alarm prevention by providing customers with a unique password to be used in the event of a false alarm.

Cons

5-Year Contract

Slomin’s only offers a 60-month contract–two years longer than the standard 36-month contract offered by most home security companies. And while the company promises approximately $1,300 in free equipment by signing such a long contract, customers will be required to compensate Slomin’s should they decide to terminate the contract before it expires.

Average To Expensive Monthly Fees

Monitoring service start at $33.95/month for home security services, but if customers request additional equipment (possibly including home automation, or heating and cooling features), they could be paying $46.95/month. Unfortunately, Slomin’s gives no information on these other prices, and customers will be required to speak personally with a customer service representative in order to procure this information.

Free System includes panel and keypad, motion detector, up to 3 door contacts, window decals, lawn sign, communication device, and battery backup. Five year monitoring agreement required at $33.95/month for basic system. Promotion of free indoor video camera and mobile app control increases monitoring rate to $46.95/month.

Complaints Against Slomin’s

The Slomin’s reviews on Best Home Security Companys are mostly negative – especially in 2019. Some common themes of these reviews include:

  • Poor customer service. The customer service is described as rude, and often trying to upsell customers.
  • Contract. There are many complaints about Slomin’s 5-year contract. This is the longest length contract in home security. Customers report that breaking their contract have run them anywhere from $1000 to $2000. There are a few reviews that reference a 2-year contract. Some people report a miscommunication from what they were told their contract said, and what their contract actually said.
  • Alarm maintenance issues. There are several reports of poor quality equipment, and alarm issues that required a technician to fix.

Our Recommendation

Slomin’s has mixed information on how much their monthly alarm monitoring fees are and what is actually included in those packages. The negative reviews on customer service and the fact that they are only available in 10 states, makes us not recommend using Slomin’s. About Slomin’s

Slomin’s provides customers with a number of home automation tools that allow them to monitor and control their home’s security while they’re away. Customers can access door locks, thermostats, lighting, and both live and recorded video monitoring all from the conveniences of the Slomin’s smartphone app.

The Slomin’s Shield System – $33.95+/month

This is the only alarm package advertised on Slomin’s website. It comes with basic home monitoring equipment and one indoor camera. Price starts at $33.95 a month (we assume this is for 60 months). Equipment upgrades and add ons will result in a higher monthly fee. You can monitor your system with the mySlomin’s mobile app.

The Slomin’s Shield Home Automation System Devices – $29.95+/month

The company also offers a package that focuses on home automation controlled from the mySolmin’s app. Package includes:

  • Light control
  • Front door lock
  • Garage door opener
  • Smart thermostat
  • Appliance control (turn a plugged-in appliance on and off from your phone)

They seem to offer several other pieces of alarm equipment, although it’s unclear whether or not you can build your own security system with them. Other equipment includes a control panel, motion/window detectors, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, water sensors, glass break sensors, z-wave device, and pan tilt zoom cameras.

For commercial security systems, Slomin’s offer the following solutions:
  • Access Control – Choose whether you need Badge Access, Gate or Door Control, Photo IDs, Time and Attendance Monitoring, and Fingerprint Reading.
  • Video Cameras – In case you need to keep track of lost items or goods, point of sales, events, and live monitoring.
  • Camera Options – bullet video cameras, vandal-resistant domes, infrared, outdoor cameras, vari-focal, etc.

    I sold my home therefore I reached out to slomin’s to advise them of my move. I ask them to put my account on hold until I had a closing date for my new home. They told me they couldn’t process my request. They said my account would have to be closed and I was responsible for the remainder amount due for the contract which is $972. I didn’t want to close my account but they did what they wanted to do. They didn’t want to help me or hear me out. The customer service representative was very rude! I did want to continue my services with slomin’s at my new address but after this incident, I would rather go with another security company. Now I am stuck with this $972 bill that I don’t want to pay because they forced this bill on me! Slomin’s is fast to take your money but they are not willing to help or keep their customers happy! Go elsewhere please they are not worth the headache.

    We have been Trapped in a 5 Year Contract.THANK GOD ITS OVER Had false alarms in the Early AM , TWICE ! Police showed up 20 min.s Later. Asked SLOMINS to fix the problem and they came a week later, and didnt resolve problem. Alarm System wasn’t even working and they still charged us for 8 Months of NON MONITORING. We tried cancelling verbally on phone. They will not cancel on demand and you have to wait for them to call you for Cancellation. No CUSTOMER LOYALTY The WORST COMPANY I EVER DONE BUSINESS WITH !!!! NOW the’re taking me to Court for payment. I will fight this till the END.

    I had the system installed before I started renting a house. I needed a camera installed, which was part of the original installation but never got installed. They offer service only Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. I scheduled a service at 8, till 9:15 the technician was not here. When I called to check, I was informed that they were just dispatched. The person I spoke to could not tell me when the technician would be here or where they were coming from. They were not able to check the location but they were able to cancel the service, which I did as some of us have to do their job at a particular time, not whenever they show up.
    If I could, I would cancel the service. All the customer service representatives I have talked to have been very unhelpful and vague, I assume this is the company’s policy.

    Have had slomins security for two years now and have never had an issue until last week when our alarm was triggered in the middle of the night (so scary!). Thankfully there was no one breaking in but one of the zones was faulty and that’s why it kept alarming. The next morning we called to have them come out and fix it and they told us it would be almost a two week wait. Are you kidding me?! This is our family’s safety we’re talking about! We have a four month old we need to protect. I just don’t understand how they don’t have enough service employees to fix issues like this. If someone breaks in and hurts my family in the interim, arnt they liable? We are terminating our service and installing a new alarm system. Don’t even bother with this company because in a time of need they don’t show up.

    I just found out that I have a 5 year contract when the sales man came out he said it was a 2 year.I am waiting for someone to come out to put a Spencer on my door appt time was for 3 m now going on 5 pm called and talk ed with a supervisor do. You think he care d he’ll no pleas if someone knows how I can break my contract let me they are a brunch of liars

    Don’t walk, run from Slomins. Terrible customer service, long contracts, inferior technology. I asked them to move my account to a new home and they were not interested in doing that. Took me to court. Employees are so rude!! I am shocked this company works the way it does.

    Slomins basically sets you up so there is no way out. They do not value their customer loyalty in any way and using their oil service in addition to the alarm service is not at all considered important to them. I have canceled both oil and alarm and would not do business with them, I paid every month on time and was unable to negotiate any cancelation on the alarm service regardless of the fact that I was unhappy with the service and was no longer using it. Their customer service staff on the alarm side are rude and have limited ability to handle customer calls with respect and integrity….stay far away. you have other choices

    Salesman told us we could cancel security and pay balance of payments upon placing our house for sale we found out on top of the balance of payments their would be an additional $2500. Cancellation fee.
    They would not honor what their own salesman had stated. The salesman no longer works for them.

    Horrible customer service. Nothing by dissatisfaction with them and it’s only been 3 months. They made me signed a five year contract which I might have to get an attorney to help me get out of. I would NOT recommend Slomin’s to anyone. If you have issues with the system or maintenance on your boiler they make you wait two to three weeks for the alarm and thres to four months to service the heating system. Simply horrible customer service.

    I decided to go with a home security system to provide protection for my family. Salesman came out and was nice and told me upfront costs and that the equipment and installation was free. Had me sign an agreement for upfront costs and hand him a check. He also told me they will be here to get things started asap. That ended up being delayed for what ever reason. Then out of nowhere i get a email with an attachment saying i signed for an equipment cost. So when I contacted customer service and asked them about this they said thats the cost period. I told them your salesman said it was free install and equipment and that all advertisements online state exactly what the salesman said. So their answer to me was thats only for an inside camera not an outdoor camera. You signed the contract and there is nothing I can do for you. I didnt realize that a family company advertising to protect families are actually scamming them. Thats Slomins for you.

    Do not use Slomins. They are your best friend trying to get u into a contract but once they do, boy o boy, it’s ridiculous how many times I’ve heard “you’re in a contract”. The cameras suck the app sucks the customer service sucks. There is plenty of competition DO NOT use Slomins!!!!!!!

    Don’t use them! I had them install an alarm system on my home. The sensors keep failing so either they are sub par or the installer did a horrible job. When you call for service you have to wait a week to get someone to your home to repair. They are not at all consumer friendly. I have had to take many days off from work so they can come and repair a system for which I pay a lot of money monthly. Don’t use this company

    I have to say Slomin’s has the worse customer service I ever experienced with any other company. The lack of information it’s horrible. When you call their 1800 number you get unprofessional people who have no idea on what to do. If I wasn’t stuck with the contract I would’ve cancel the second week I had signed up. DONT TRUST YOUR HOME OF BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Horrible all around.

    What they advertise is not true you can actually give the tech cash money and then I’ll say you don’t qualify for service and then they’ll tell you that you have to wait 7 to 10 days to process the cash payment before they return your money and a check..
    When you call a speak with customer service they have summer Her speech that they constantly say you’re asked to speak with supervisors if there are any because it is a family-owned business you’re never available when they don’t return calls. Still waiting on the return of my funds at all Douglas can say is we don’t need your money we’re going to return it I guess after they use it then I’ll return it when it’s convenient to them

    We have had Slomins Alarm system since we moved in (almost 4 years ago). I have never been late on a bill – my account is in good standing. I have never called them about an issue and my alarm has never gone off (knock on wood). Anyway, I switched out a door last night and the alarm sensor said it was “tampered” with. So my husband played around with it for about 10 minutes and couldn’t fix it. We called Slomins who quickly alerted us we would be charged $79/hour PLUS $60 to replace the sensor. Wait… what? I hung up. What aggravated me the most is while we were on hold I googled a solution (for the tamper switch) that worked. My husband was able to fix it in less than 2 minutes.

    So lets talk about the product – the app is okay and the alarm sensors are not top of the line. My mom had a delay in her motion sensor during an actual break-in and it looks like our motion sensor also has a delay. But it’s $30 bucks a month and we are stuck with it for another year or so. We can only hope for the best until we get new service. They don’t offer current customers anything (discounts, upgrades) at all.

    Now let’s get into customer service. I NEVER thought I would see the day where I would honestly say I found a company who has worse Costumer Service than Comcast.

    Where they went wrong: You don’t automatically try to charge a customer $140+ without saying things like “Did you try this?” Google was more helpful than the “customer service” woman. Also, when you are on contract with a customer that has never been late on a bill and who contract is coming to an end, you say things like “thanks for being a loyal customer for four years. we do have to charge you for the tech, but we will throw in the sensor if it’s broke (which is wasn’t).” This lady offered zero solutions and was very quick to try to charge us. So let’s be real – if I am paying money every month for you to monitor your equipment – I do expect you to be at least 50% responsible for equipment failure/upkeep. Take for example my arch nemesis Comcast – they charge you for a tech to come out, but I have never been charged for equipment. YOU CANNOT PROVIDE YOUR MONTHLY SERVICE IF YOUR CUSTOMERS DON’T HAVE WORKING EQUIPMENT! Anyway, I will be looking at my contract when I get home from work today. I was 22 when I signed up and I didn’t look very hard at the fine print. As a naive young adult, I assumed Slomins was a reputable company that looked our for its customers. I would never recommend this company and I hope they start treating their loyal customers better.
