Slomin's offers the following services for home and business: Security systems, home automation, heat, and cooling. Final purchases will need credit approval.
Free Installation and Equipment
Slomin's guarantees professional installation on all projects, and estimates between four and six hours' installation time for each install (depending on the size of the job and the security features requested).
All equipment is free when you sign up for professional monitoring with Slomin's. For this reason, monthly alarm fees are slightly higher than for other companies.
Security customers can also rest easy with Slomin's round-the-clock security monitoring and fast response times. The company even provides a form of false alarm prevention by providing customers with a unique password to be used in the event of a false alarm.
Slomin's only offers a 60-month contract-two years longer than the standard 36-month contract offered by most home security companies. And while the company promises approximately $1,300 in free equipment by signing such a long contract, customers will be required to compensate Slomin's should they decide to terminate the contract before it expires.
Average To Expensive Monthly Fees
Monitoring service start at $33.95/month for home security services, but if customers request additional equipment (possibly including home automation, or heating and cooling features), they could be paying $46.95/month. Unfortunately, Slomin's gives no information on these other prices, and customers will be required to speak personally with a customer service representative in order to procure this information.
Free System includes panel and keypad, motion detector, up to 3 door contacts, window decals, lawn sign, communication device, and battery backup. Five year monitoring agreement required at $33.95/month for basic system. Promotion of free indoor video camera and mobile app control increases monitoring rate to $46.95/month.
Only Available in 10 States
Slomin's is only licensed in the following states:
- Maryland (and DC)
- New Jersey
- New York
Complaints Against Slomin's
The Slomin's reviews on Best Home Security Companys are mostly negative - especially in 2019. Some common themes of these reviews include:
- Poor customer service. The customer service is described as rude, and often trying to upsell customers.
- Contract. There are many complaints about Slomin's 5-year contract. This is the longest length contract in home security. Customers report that breaking their contract have run them anywhere from $1000 to $2000. There are a few reviews that reference a 2-year contract. Some people report a miscommunication from what they were told their contract said, and what their contract actually said.
- Alarm maintenance issues. There are several reports of poor quality equipment, and alarm issues that required a technician to fix.
Slomin's has mixed information on how much their monthly alarm monitoring fees are and what is actually included in those packages. The negative reviews on customer service and the fact that they are only available in 10 states, makes us not recommend using Slomin's. To find a cheaper home security system that is in your state, check out Protect America or Guardian Protection.
Slomin's provides customers with a number of home automation tools that allow them to monitor and control their home's security while they're away. Customers can access door locks, thermostats, lighting, and both live and recorded video monitoring all from the conveniences of the Slomin's smartphone app.
The Slomin's Shield System - $33.95+/month
This is the only alarm package advertised on Slomin's website. It comes with basic home monitoring equipment and one indoor camera. Price starts at $33.95 a month (we assume this is for 60 months). Equipment upgrades and add ons will result in a higher monthly fee. You can monitor your system with the mySlomin's mobile app.
Door sensors (3)
Control keypad (touchscreen upgrade)
Indoor video camera (live stream)
Company name sign
The Slomin's Shield Home Automation System Devices - $29.95+/month
The company also offers a package that focuses on home automation controlled from the mySolmin's app. Package includes:
- Light control
- Front door lock
- Garage door opener
- Smart thermostat
- Appliance control (turn a plugged-in appliance on and off from your phone)
They seem to offer several other pieces of alarm equipment, although it's unclear whether or not you can build your own security system with them. Other equipment includes a control panel, motion/window detectors, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, water sensors, glass break sensors, z-wave device, and pan tilt zoom cameras.
For commercial security systems, Slomin's offer the following solutions:
- Access Control - Choose whether you need Badge Access, Gate or Door Control, Photo IDs, Time and Attendance Monitoring, and Fingerprint Reading.
- Video Cameras - In case you need to keep track of lost items or goods, point of sales, events, and live monitoring.
- Camera Options - bullet video cameras, vandal-resistant domes, infrared, outdoor cameras, vari-focal, etc.
- Live and Remote Viewing
- Digital Video Recording
- Digital Video Recorders

Do not use Slomins. They are your best friend trying to get u into a contract but once they do, boy o boy, it’s ridiculous how many times I’ve heard “you’re in a contract”. The cameras suck the app sucks the customer service sucks. There is plenty of competition DO NOT use Slomins!!!!!!!

Don't use them! I had them install an alarm system on my home. The sensors keep failing so either they are sub par or the installer did a horrible job. When you call for service you have to wait a week to get someone to your home to repair. They are not at all consumer friendly. I have had to take many days off from work so they can come and repair a system for which I pay a lot of money monthly. Don't use this company

I have to say Slomin’s has the worse customer service I ever experienced with any other company. The lack of information it’s horrible. When you call their 1800 number you get unprofessional people who have no idea on what to do. If I wasn’t stuck with the contract I would’ve cancel the second week I had signed up. DONT TRUST YOUR HOME OF BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Horrible all around.

Anything that goes wrong with your contract with them and they will fight you bitterly to the end. Money hungry company only interested in $$$, no concern for the customer.

What they advertise is not true you can actually give the tech cash money and then I'll say you don't qualify for service and then they'll tell you that you have to wait 7 to 10 days to process the cash payment before they return your money and a check.. When you call a speak with customer service they have summer Her speech that they constantly say you're asked to speak with supervisors if there are any because it is a family-owned business you're never available when they don't return calls. Still waiting on the return of my funds at all Douglas can say is we don't need your money we're going to return it I guess after they use it then I'll return it when it's convenient to them

We have had Slomins Alarm system since we moved in (almost 4 years ago). I have never been late on a bill - my account is in good standing. I have never called them about an issue and my alarm has never gone off (knock on wood). Anyway, I switched out a door last night and the alarm sensor said it was "tampered" with. So my husband played around with it for about 10 minutes and couldn't fix it. We called Slomins who quickly alerted us we would be charged $79/hour PLUS $60 to replace the sensor. Wait... what? I hung up. What aggravated me the most is while we were on hold I googled a solution (for the tamper switch) that worked. My husband was able to fix it in less than 2 minutes. So lets talk about the product - the app is okay and the alarm sensors are not top of the line. My mom had a delay in her motion sensor during an actual break-in and it looks like our motion sensor also has a delay. But it's $30 bucks a month and we are stuck with it for another year or so. We can only hope for the best until we get new service. They don't offer current customers anything (discounts, upgrades) at all. Now let's get into customer service. I NEVER thought I would see the day where I would honestly say I found a company who has worse Costumer Service than Comcast. Where they went wrong: You don't automatically try to charge a customer $140+ without saying things like "Did you try this?" Google was more helpful than the "customer service" woman. Also, when you are on contract with a customer that has never been late on a bill and who contract is coming to an end, you say things like "thanks for being a loyal customer for four years. we do have to charge you for the tech, but we will throw in the sensor if it's broke (which is wasn't)." This lady offered zero solutions and was very quick to try to charge us. So let's be real - if I am paying money every month for you to monitor your equipment - I do expect you to be at least 50% responsible for equipment failure/upkeep. Take for example my arch nemesis Comcast - they charge you for a tech to come out, but I have never been charged for equipment. YOU CANNOT PROVIDE YOUR MONTHLY SERVICE IF YOUR CUSTOMERS DON'T HAVE WORKING EQUIPMENT! Anyway, I will be looking at my contract when I get home from work today. I was 22 when I signed up and I didn't look very hard at the fine print. As a naive young adult, I assumed Slomins was a reputable company that looked our for its customers. I would never recommend this company and I hope they start treating their loyal customers better.

I had a Sales rep come to my home for an estimate. I asked if I could see a brochure that had services as well as pricing listed so that I can see exactly what types of services and add-ons I could consider as well as their pricing. He told me that they do not offer anything in writing. I told him that I was a visual person and I would like to see what you have to offer. He proceeded to tell me "Well I'm telling you what we have". That was the biggest turn off!!! I am not a person that is sold by someone just speaking to me - I need to see things. I need to review services as well as pricing. I completely shut down after that. I will not use Slomins because I feel that they are not up front with people and their services. Too add too - because based on some of the items they had to offer - I probably would have signed with them. Their loss!

Poor customer service, call center people are rude and over talk you. took over 3 weeks to have a technician come for repair, then became awfully late. I cancelled them. Slomans then said due to the weeks my service was broken i still have to pay service charge. As of Now I am waiting for Supervisor to call me back to discuss problem. When I called and asked for a supervisor i was informed there busy, I can not wait on hold, they will call me back. when they do I will update you on this.

My inital reaction to this company was that things seemed to be ok. The salesman seemed knowledgeable and my family decided to go through with them as they seemed to be a viable option. This company never showed uo for the agreed upon date to install my cameras and when I called customer service they stated that the agreed upon date was approximate. They came another date and stated that we were not available. If the date was not for sure, why wouldn't they call and state this as people need to be at work and cannot afford to take off days for an "approximate date". When attempting to reschedule, they told me they do nott do not make house visits during the week of Christmas nor the week after Christmas at all. My father called later on the same day and miraculously they were able to make a visit. The day they were supposed to come, they stated that they would be here between 8am and 1pm. No one showed up until 2:30 and they did not have the cameras and would not get any until after the new years. Well if you don't have the cameras why would you come at all? Why would you not tell us before we wasted our time staying here for hours waiting for you, especially when both I and another member of my household spoke to a representative the same day and this could've been explained to use. This company wasted no time taking our money however failed to abide by the contract. The customer service representative I spoke to in order to cancel the account was very unprofessional and blamed us for not being at the home on a day that was not agreed upon for the installation. I surely hope this does not happen to all people, however be aware. This company did not deliver on their word despite charging me for it already.

I have been with Slomin's around 2001 or 2002. They are liars and the customer service is horrible. The people on the line don't care about what is going on with our problems, and they seem like they also don't care about what we talk to them about. I've been having problems with my front camera that is connected to the Slomins app since December 5th of this year. I told one of the service people on the phone that this needs to be fixed immediately because you never know if someone will pull up to your house and harm you when you go out. They have set up a meeting to see it on December 20th to see whats going on. Then they told me that my front camera isn't working as well because of the bad weather, wind outside, and the snow which is a lie. If that actually happened, it would affect on the back camera as well. They told me that there is something that is unplugged which is another lie. They use lies to make you sign up for their services . If this was such a good service they would've helped us as soon as possible. I can't leave Slomins until the 5 year contract is up and now I am locked with them until then. This is a horrible home security system to set up, they know that they aren't good and they try to lock their customers in. I advise people to not choose Slomins because of their bad customer service, and guarantee/warranty.

Slomins has the worst customer service for any company that I have ever dealt with. I made an appointment to service my boiler of which I had to wait two months. On the day of my appointment which was last Friday December 8, 2017 after sitting home and waiting all day, I got a call from Slomins at the end of the day informing me that I have to reschedule because of the snow and they need for them to service those customers without heat. On Friday December 15, 2017 my rescheduled date, I am going through the same exercise sitting and waiting not knowing when the service technician will show up. I called customer support only to be told that they are servicing customers who don't have heat and they don't have a time specific time when they will show up and the only reason they did not reschedule me today was because they did once already last Friday. This is totally unaccepotable. Slomins have no regards for people's time. I don't understand how they can continue to do business like this

They are thieves!!! I called for service was told 3 days. Service guy comes & said he needs a new board & will be back the next day. The day is passing so I call up to find out what time I should expect the service guy back & was told the "board" will take 3 to 5 business days to get and $425. I can't believe it would take that many days to get the part so I went online & found it for $56 plus shipping & I can have it in 2 days. I ordered the part & had it in 2 days told Slomin's to come finish the job & they tell me it's going to be $275 + tax to install it. I have a service contract with these thieves & have been a customer for over 15 years but they don't care! They say they're family owned but I think, if the "family" knew how bad their business is being managed they wouldn't be so happy.

Told salesman that we may we selling our home within a few years and specifically asked what would happen with their 5 year contract. He told me & my husband that we leave the equipment for the new owner and they will place new equipment in our next home. HE LIED to us. They want us to get our buyer to take over the contract or we owe the rest of the 5 years on this house( over $600) and we would have to sign a new contract on our new home. Be beware of LYING SALESMEN with this company. Would not recommend them to anyone.

I would rank Slomin's as one of the worst company's I have ever work with. On the occasions when I have called for home service the customer service agents have been rude and do not have a clue what customer service is. Recently it took speaking to 3 customer server agents to set up a appointment for a technician to come to my house to work on my alarm system even after I to agree to pay the $75 that I felt was in fair. This is not the company it claims to be, run.

Back in 2003, Slomins Alarm Co. installed an alarm in my first new home. They drilled through my window to install the cables to the magnet. 14 years later, I notice water beginning to puddle on my window sill and leak under the radiator directly below it. After ripping out the sheetrock (5/8), I realized the water has been leaking all this time, and rotted my entire wall; studs, insulation, and plywood on outside of the wall behind the siding. Not to mention the amount of mold that grew back there. God only knows what health effects that has had on my kids all along since we eat in the dining room every day, multiple times a day. Furthermore, I was supposed to have a manager come by to inspect the damage and hopefully make good on at least some of the damage. To add insult to injury, I called to get a status update at noon since I hadn’t received the text they were going to send when they were on their way, and they tell me they called, no one answered and my voicemail was full. Nice lie on top of this, last time I used a cell phone, missed calls are registered, plus my voicemail is empty. On top of this, I was generously offered free security cameras because I was a customer for so long if I signed a 5 year contract. They sold me on how its motion activated and will record who comes to my door. Problem is they only record for 12 sec (I believe) which wouldn’t even capture someone getting to my front door. What good are the recording cameras if I can’t see if someone is trying to break in????? I cancelled the camera service because they didn’t provide the service I was looking for or promised. But they wouldn’t budge on the 5 year contract. Now I am locked in with a company that has ruined my home right before thanksgiving, refuses to take ownership, and lies on top things. I might be a one off, but if the risk is worth it, their method of making good on their mistakes certainly isn’t.

I'm writing on this page because I no longer know what else to do. I am completely unsatisfied with slomins customer service. For the past 4 months, their text notification service has been sending me all of the text notifications for the day in the middle of the night. I was just awoken because of these texts and I've had enough. The people who I have spoken to have been unable and/or unwilling to repair the problem. I've spoken with countless agents on numerous occasions. Is there nobody at Slomins who will help me? Is there nothing that can be done? I only want a security company that lives up to their promises. I look forward to some sort of response.

Saturday aug 5 i met with a Slomins sales rep to discuss their service for my home . In the end instead of a 3 year contact like it was quoted it ended up being a 5 year . 0 activation but i still paided 96.02 for the 1st three months and scheduled an appoint for Aug 9 2017 for the install . So i took a half a 1/2 off and waited for the tech . I called the salesmen at 430 pm to find out i was not approved for their service . Man was i pissed , no phone call from their customer service or credit department on monday or tuesday advising me of this ... wow... then two of their customer agents would even pass me to a supervisor and hung on me . Now i have to wait 3 days or longer to get my money 96.02 back . Bad Bad company be ware everyone i could list more but im runiing out of room . use another company save your self some grief .....

My experience with Slomins as a central station alarm company, for the past 20+ years has been nothing but exceptional. Throughout the years the equipment in my home has been upgraded with the latest technology, with the most recent upgrade having been undertaken only just recently. From the most helpful and most receptive sales person over the phone all the way to the technician who upgraded the system components, my experience was exceptional. I can, with good conscious, recommend this company to any of my friends and family, which I have in fact done throughout the years......

The security cameras work maybe 20-25% of the time. My wife called and was told that IT needed to make a fix on their end, and they would contact her when it was done. That didn't happen. I called back and told them that the cameras don't work as they should. I was told that they see recordings. It didn't pick up people going to and from the house on 6 occasions. She put me on hold for over 10 minutes to say that a tech needs to come out. I asked her if they acknowledged that there is a problem or if they are appeasing me. She said "honestly, I think a little bit of both." Unreal. Their product sucks and customer service is ridiculous. In the market to replace them.

Very very very bad System never online but they do not even know if you system is online or not. Never contact you for what's going on with the system Horrible customer service and extremely rude If you miss a few payment, they will call you and ask money like a debt collector. Then, delete the account right away so you can no longer make the online payment. Then they will summon you from the debt collector and court. Very very bad , avoid this company at any cost!!

System installed 4/2013, all windows & doors and 1 interior live camera (did not have recorded camera as an option), and later I added the text notifications. I hate the fact that you cant get pricing for anything online, you need to have a salesman visit. But that being said the salesman was very nice. Had to have 2 windows rewired as the installer stapled right through the wires ruining the connection (being woken up at 2am in a panic from the alarm blasting afraid someone is in your house, realizing the zone set off is your youngest kids room and freaking outt!!!). ISSUES SINCE INSTALLATION: the camera worked maybe 25% of the time. I believe the camera is fine, but the wiring they use for the camera is crap, have to wiggle and shake the wire to get a connection, which would be temporary. I've given up, hasn't been used for about 2 years as there is never a connection. The alarm pad buttons seem to get worn out very quickly. To the point you are frantically pressing so hard to get it to register before the alarm goes off. So we've stopped using the regular alarm now too for over a year. I'm basically just waiting for my 5 years to be up and I will be cancelling. When their equipment works, its a good service. Oh and last issue. I signed a 5 yr contract with a monthly amount per the contract. that amount goes up annually, its not a locked in rate which I wasn't aware of.

Horrible customer service. Spoke with Kathy and described ongoing problem for past 3 months. Three "technician" visits and no resolution. Asked to speak to supervisor "all are busy" - I assume all are dealing with complaints. Waited on the phone for over 20 minutes and was told "no one available" at 9:27am on a Friday. Sounds like LOTS of problems at Slomins. Poor customer service

I was interested in Slomin's since the former owner of the house we now lived used them. I put in my request to meet with their customer rep. from their web page. I waited to hear from them but of no use. I went back to their site and filled another application for an appointment with their customer service rep. still no reply until after a couple of weeks I had someone called me around six O'clock in the evening introducing himself to be Slomin's rep. I gave him all I had in mind about Slomin's because of their lack of response. With all the bad experiences others have had from them, I am turned off from signing any contract with them.

I used their 2gig alarm for several years and it worked very well. I had 2 keypads, one near the door and one in my bedroom, I had the camera which was a little cheesy but worked great. The text message were nice so I could see when my wife was leaving and getting back. really no issues for years other than changing out 2 batteries which they sent me in the mail. I would recommend and probably will order for our new house down the road.

I use Slomins both for Heating and Alarm and they were terrible with both, my Boiler broke called them 3 times because I paid for an annual contract for the past 7 years they " fixed the problem" only for it to break again in a worse state they then told me I needed a new boiler! Called another company they fixed the boiler correctly and it cost me less. My alarm is not working for 2 months they stated I need a technician to come to the house for a service call however they only do service calls in the middle of the day and there is no accommodation for people that work, I was told to get someone top stay in my house, and of course I am still paying for the non working alarm .. TERRIBLE Company

Worst company to deal with. The equipment doesn't work well and they sell you the moon but deliver fools gold instead. The installers were very nice, but once I had a problem with the system, customer service was terrible. I had to pay to break the contract with them......which was worth it. Just to get a better company with equipment that actually worked. They are the absolute worst security company. believe the negative reviews on here because each and every one is true!!!!

I had a service take over, from ADT. The technician claims they are experience, I had a on and off light timer he could not install and he left with one key pad not working and the entire system was not chiming or talking. Then it was a week before they could come back out and fix there mistakes and that service tech was not able to get the key fob working and then they tell me it will be $10 more to use one of the it's. Bottom line is they will nickel and dime you for poor service.

I called and a friendly sales rep came out to tell me what they could do. It was the same as my securty system, i felt that i was good to cancel my old provider and switch to Slomins. After a home invasition having my partiner heald to the ground with a gun to his head with a pillow though it. I canceled our service with the other securty providor and now am scared to go to sleep at night. The sales associate said everything would process and i would be fine after signing the contract. The next day i called and him the next day and he said there was a issue with my credit. Yes i did go though bankruptcy and had othet issues however secured a new car loan with other revolving accounts. I dont understand why this company would lead me to false expectations then on top of that after being declined want me to take them out to help my 66 year old mother and her home garadge and secured Barn that is two stories. I warn consumers about this company.

Slomins current customer service is the worst of any company I have delt with in the past 30 years They are RUDE, NASTY MEAN and couldn't care less about the customer and their problem. I've been aslomins customer for for over 25 years They used to be incredible but today their management just do not give a rats butt about anything, especially when you are told they won't take any call from customers The service people that repairs for heating, air-conditioning and Alarms are all top notch when you can get just service to schedule a timely appointment
